Coccidiosis is a protozoan intestinal disease that reduces the production of the sheep industry and causes large economic losses for sheep. Although chemically synthesised drugs are routinely employed to treat coccidiosis in sheep, the anticoccidial drug resistance and drug residues in edible meat have prompted an urgent search for alternatives. Herein, the anticoccidial properties of diclazuril, a conventional anticoccidial drug, and Allium sativum, Houttuynia cordata and Portulaca oleracea were assessed. Forty 45-day-old lambs naturally infected with Eimeria spp. were selected and randomly divided into five groups. The results showed that the sheep treated for coccidiosis had considerably decreased average daily gain (ADG) during both administration and withdrawal of the drug compared to the control group. Furthermore, at days 14, 21, 28 and 35, respectively, the three herbs and diclazuril had similar anticoccidial effects, with lower oocysts per gram (OPG) than the control group. On day 78, OPG in the three herbal groups was significantly lower than in the diclazuril group. In addition, the abundance and composition of the gut microbiota were changed in sheep treated with the three herbs and diclazuril compared to the untreated sheep. Moreover, some intestinal microorganisms have a correlation with OPG and ADG when using Spearman correlation analysis. In summary, our results suggest that all three herbs produce anticoccidial effects similar to diclazuril and modulate the balance of gut microbiota in growing lambs.

Lamotrigine is an effective mood stabiliser, largely used for the management and prevention of depression in bipolar disorder. The neuropsychological mechanisms by which lamotrigine acts to relieve symptoms as well as its neural effects on emotional processing remain unclear. The primary objective of this current study was to investigate the impact of an acute dose of lamotrigine on the neural response to a well-characterised fMRI task probing implicit emotional processing relevant to negative bias. 31 healthy participants were administered either a single dose of lamotrigine (300 mg, n = 14) or placebo (n = 17) in a randomized, double-blind design. Inside the 3 T MRI scanner, participants completed a covert emotional faces gender discrimination task. Brain activations showing significant group differences were identified using voxel-wise general linear model (GLM) nonparametric permutation testing, with threshold free cluster enhancement (TFCE) and a family wise error (FWE)-corrected cluster significance threshold of p < 0.05. Participants receiving lamotrigine were more accurate at identifying the gender of fearful (but not happy or angry) faces. A network of regions associated with emotional processing, including amygdala, insula, and the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), was significantly less activated in the lamotrigine group compared to the placebo group across emotional facial expressions. A single dose of lamotrigine reduced activation in limbic areas in response to faces with both positive and negative expressions, suggesting a valence-independent effect. However, at a behavioural level lamotrigine appeared to reduce the distracting effect of fear on face discrimination. Such effects may be relevant to the mood stabilisation effects of lamotrigine.

Selective surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) detection of target explosives with good reproducibility is very important for monitoring soldiers' health and ecological environment. Here, the specific charge transfer pathway was constructed between a stable nanodiamond-multilayer graphene (MGD) film substrate and the target explosives. Two-step wet chemical oxidation methods of HO (30%) and HNO (65%) solutions were used to regulate the terminal structure of MGD films. The experimental results showed that the hydroxyl (-OH) functional groups are successfully modified on the surface of MGD thin films, and the MGD-OH substrates having good selectivity for 1,3,5-triamino-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene (TATB) explosive in mixed solutions of the TATB, 2,2-dinitroethene-1,1-diamine, 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene, and 1,3,5-trinitroperhydro-1,3,5-triazine explosives compared with MGD substrates were demonstrated. Finally, first-principles density functional theory simulations revealed that the SERS enhancement of the MGD-OH substrate is mainly attributed to the transferred electrons between the -NO groups of TATB and the -OH groups of the MGD-OH substrate.

The syntheses of high-spin organic polymers have been a daunting task due to the highly reactive nature of organic radicals, especially when they are ferromagnetically coupled. In this paper, we report our approach to obtain high-spin organic polymers, in which a reasonably stable fluorenyl radical was employed as the primary radical unit, and -triazine serves as the connector that facilitates ferromagnetic coupling between them. Initially, the diamagnetic polymer precursor was synthesized by cyclotrimerization of a cyano-monomer. Subsequently, the high-spin polymers were obtained by oxidizing corresponding anionic polymers using O (6) or I (7). The temperature-dependent magnetic moments, and field-dependent magnetization data obtained from SQUID measurements revealed ferromagnetic couplings between primary radical units, with coupling = 7.5 cm and 38.6 cm. The percentages of primary unit in the radical form are 29%, and 47% for 6 and 7, respectively. Notably, this marks the first reported instance of a high-spin fluorenyl radical polymer exhibiting ferromagnetic coupling.

This work proposes an innovative approach for the membrane separation of spent and unspent HS scavengers (SUS) derived from the application of MEA-triazine in offshore oil and gas production. Modified nanofiltration membranes were fabricated by incorporating graphene oxide (GO) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) into a thin film composite (TFC) to obtain a thin film nanocomposite (TFN) with enhanced permeability. In addition, various immobilization strategies for GO were investigated. The performance of the membranes and the effect of the GO loading were evaluated in terms of permeability, fouling propensity, and rejection of key components of the SUS, i.e., MEA-triazine (unspent scavenger), dithiazine (spent scavenger), and monoethanolamine, operating on a sample of SUS wastewater obtained from an offshore oil and gas platform. Various characterization techniques, such as contact angle, FTIR, XRD, SEM, TGA, and AFM, were employed to evaluate the structure, composition, and hydrophilicity of the membrane. The results show a remarkable increase in permeability (from 0.22 Lm h bar for the TFC to 5.8 Lm h bar for the TFN membranes), due to the enhanced hydrophilicity from GO incorporation. The strong interfacial interaction between GO and PVA within the TFN membrane results in negligible nanofiller leaching. The incorporation of GO moderately increases the rejection of the unspent scavenger (63%-73%, 62%-79%, 62%-80%, and 68%-76%), while drastically increasing the rejection of the spent scavenger, which is approximately null for the TFC membrane without GO and increases up to 58% in the TFN membrane with GO. Therefore, while the proposed membranes cannot be used for the selective separation of the unspent form the spent scavenger, they can achieve substantial recovery of all the key components contained in the SUS to avoid their discharge into the sea.

Hercynite magnetic nanoparticles were produced through the co-precipitation of ferrous and aluminum cations. The surface of hercynite was respectively coated with silica, 2,4,6-trichloro-1,3,5-triazine, and 1H-pyrazole-3,5-dicarboxylic acid to provide a suitable substrate for Pd(II) loading, furnishing Pd@Her-TCT-PDA. Subsequently, the introduced Pd(II) was reduced to Pd(0) using NaBH. FT-IR, EDS, XRD, TGA, TEM and SEM images were the characteristic methods to prove the success of catalyst synthesis. The SEM image illustrated the particles with a nanosize of 25-50 nm and TEM image confirmed the presence of Pd nanoparticles with sizes lower than 2 nm. EDS elemental analysis of the catalyst proved the existence of Pd, Fe, and Al atoms along with the C, O, N, and Si atoms belong to the heterocyclic moieties. VSM analysis clarified a considerable drop in the magnetic properties of the hercynite core of the final catalyst due to its modified surface. TGA curve demonstrated that Pd@Her-TCT-PDA contains 20% organic content, attributed to the anchored heterocyclic ligands. Finally, Pd@Her-TCT-PDA was employed along with NaBH as a catalytic system to reduce completely the nitro group of aromatic compounds to their corresponding amines. The recyclability tests showed low drop in the catalytic activity of Pd@Her-TCT-PDA after third run with negligible leaching of Pd NPs.

Ethanamizuril (EZL) is a new anticoccidial drug developed by our Shanghai Veterinary Research Institute. Since EZL is almost insoluble in water, we conducted a study to improve the solubility of EZL by forming inclusion complexes with β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD). In this study, we performed molecular docking and then systematically compared the interactions of EZL with β-CD and HP-β-CD in both aqueous solution and the solid state, aiming to elucidate the solubilization effect and mechanism of cyclodextrins (CDs). The interactions were also examined in the solid state using DSC, PXRD, and FT-IR. The interactions of EZL with CDs in an aqueous solution were investigated using PSA, UV-vis spectroscopy, MS, H NMR, and 2D ROESY. The results of phase solubility experiments revealed that both β-CD and HP-β-CD formed inclusion complexes with EZL in a 1:1 molar ratio. Among them, HP-β-CD exhibited higher (stability constant) and CE (complexation efficiency) values as well as a stronger solubilization effect. Furthermore, the two cyclodextrins were found to interact with EZL in a similar manner. The results of our FT-IR and 2D ROESY experiments are in agreement with the theoretical results derived from molecular simulations. These results indicated that intermolecular hydrogen bonds existing between the C=O group on the triazine ring of EZL and the O-H group of CDs, as well as the hydrophobic interactions between the hydrogen on the benzene ring of EZL and the hydrogen of CDs, played crucial roles in the formation of EZL/CD inclusion complexes. The results of this study can lay the foundation for the future development of high-concentration drinking water delivery formulations for EZL.

Correlation between relative dose intensity of adjuvant S-1 chemotherapy and psoas muscle mass volume and survival after resection of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma: A retrospective study.
This study aimed to investigate the prognostic relationship between relative dose intensity (RDI) of adjuvant S-1 chemotherapy and psoas muscle mass volume (PMV) in patients with resected pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. We enrolled 105 patients with histologically confirmed pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma who had undergone pancreatectomy. Adjuvant S-1 chemotherapy was administered to 72 (68.6%) of the 105 patients and not to the remaining 33 patients. Patients who received adjuvant S-1 chemotherapy were stratified into high- and low-RDI groups by the cutoff value for RDI. Five-year overall survival (OS) and relapse-free survival (RFS) rates were significantly higher in the high- than in the low-RDI group. Similarly, both the 5-year OS and RFS rates were significantly greater among patients in the high-PMV group than among patients in the low-PMV group. The RDI was an independent prognostic factor in our study patients. Furthermore, patients who received adjuvant S-1 chemotherapy were stratified into 3 groups: those with both high RDI and high-PMV, Group A; those with either high RDI or high PMV (but not both), Group B; and those with both low RDI and low-PMV, group C. There were statistically significant differences in 5-year OS and RFS between 3 patient groups (5-year overall survival: P = .023, 5-year relapse-free survival: P = .001). The area under the curve for the combination of RDI and PMV (0.674) was greater than that for RDI alone (0.645). A sufficient dosage of adjuvant S-1 chemotherapy is important in improving survival of patients with resected pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. A combination of RDI and PMV may predict the prognosis of patients with resected pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma more effective than RDI alone.

BACKGROUND
Advanced gastric cancer (AGC) that does not respond to first-line therapy poses a challenge to clinical management. The objective of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety of apatinib combined with S-1 in second-line and above treatment of AGC.
METHODS
Cochrane Library, Science Direct, EMBASE, PubMed, and CNKI were searched for randomized controlled trial until August 2023. Only patients who met "Standardized Diagnosis and Treatment Guide for Gastric Cancer" were included in the study. The accurate data and distinguishing between follow-up time and drug dose were extracted to reduce heterogeneity and the risk of bias of the included trials was evaluated according to the Cochrane Handbook. Finally, the survival benefit of the treatment was evaluated based on clinical response rate, survival period, biochemical index, and adverse event occurrence in the trial.
RESULTS
The meta-analysis included 29 randomized controlled trials involving 2149 participants. Statistically significant increases in clinical effective rate (odds ratios = 2.61, 95% confidence interval [2.13-3.20], P < .00001) and disease control rate (odds ratios = 3.16, 95% confidence interval [2.54-3.94], P < .00001) were found when apatinib combined with S-1, and also had obvious advantages in reducing tumor markers and regulating immune factors. In addition, apatinib combined with S-1 significantly increased the risk of hypertension but reduced damage to liver function, while the improvement of other adverse events was not pronounced.
DISCUSSION
Apatinib combined with S-1 is more effective and safe for second-line and above treatment of AGC. This study minimized the conclusion bias caused by the basic data sources, but more high-quality studies are still needed to validate these conclusions.

Herein, we report the functionalization of polyhedral oligosilsesquioxanes (POSS) and related siloxanes with arynes. Using o-triazenylarylboronic acids as aryne precursors and silica gel as the activator, the transformation of siloxane bearing various arynophilic moieties on the side chains was achieved with high yields without touching the siloxane core. This method was applied to the conjugation of POSS and pharmaceutical cores using an aryne derived from the synthetic intermediate of cabozantinib. Furthermore, orthogonal dual functionalization of POSS was realized by combining the aryne reaction with Huisgen cyclization.
