In 2020, the European Commission published a regulation that states all producers of white paints containing titanium dioxide (TiO) must provide a warning label on their products. Exposure during the production and application of products containing TiO can be harmful, and therefore these products must be labeled as "may cause cancer." The paint industry is a major user of TiO pigment. This study focuses on pigment release from three TiO-based paints and discusses the effect of paint formulation, more precisely the Pigment Volume Concentration (PVC), to predict TiO pigment release from the paints during a simulated use phase and at the end of life (EoL). The use phase considered mild abrasion of painted panels that simulated cleaning or touching. The EoL phase was studied using leaching tests simulating landfill disposal. TiO release during both activities was evident with a high discrepancy between the three paints. While dry rubbing was similar for all paints, activities involving water present a high release link to paint matrix degradation. The paint pigment volume concentration and the paint permeability determines the TiO release during wet rubbing and leaching. This work represents an attempt to identify the paint permeability as a matrix-related parameter to predict TiO release and a way to use of this parameter to develop safer products.

To overcome the overheating phenomena of electronic devices and energy components, developing advanced energy-free cooling coatings with promising radiative property seem an effective and energy-saving way. However, the further application of these coatings is greatly limited by their sustainability because of their fragile and easy contamination. Herein, it is reported that a bioinspired radiative cooling coating (BRCC) displayed sustainably efficient heat dissipation by the combination of high emittance and robust self-cleaning property. With the hierarchical porous structure constructed by multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), modified SiO and fluorosilicone (FSi) resin, the involvement of the BRCC improves the cooling performance by increasing ≈25% total heat transfer coefficient. During the abrasion and soiling tests, the BRCC-coated Al alloy heat sink always displays stable radiative cooling performance. Moreover, the simulation and experimental results both revealed that reducing surface coverage of BRCC (≈80.9%) can still keep highly cooling efficiency, leading to a cost-effective avenue. Therefore, this study may guide the design and fabrication of advanced radiative cooling coating.

Review
This review examined the efficacy of surface treatments and adhesive monomers for enhancing zirconia-resin bond strength. A comprehensive literature search in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, and the Cochrane Library yielded relevant in vitro studies. Employing pairwise and Bayesian network meta-analyses, 77 articles meeting inclusion criteria were analyzed. Gas plasma was found to be ineffective, while treatments including air abrasion, silica coating, laser, selective infiltration etching, hot etching showed varied effectiveness. Air abrasion with finer particles (25-53 µm) showed higher immediate bond strength than larger particles (110-150 µm), with no significant difference post-aging. The Rocatec silica coating system outperformed the CoJet system in both immediate and long-term bond strength. Adhesives containing 10-methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (10-MDP) were superior to other acidic monomers. The application of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate and silane did not improve bonding performance. Notably, 91.2 % of bonds weakened after aging, but this effect was less pronounced with air abrasion or silica coating. The findings highlight the effectiveness of air abrasion, silica coating, selective infiltration etching, hot etching, and laser treatment in improving bond strength, with 10-MDP in bonding agents enhancing zirconia bonding efficacy.

OBJECTIVES
This study aimed to evaluate the influence of different whitening toothpastes on color change and alteration in enamel surface roughness and microhardness compared to a conventional toothpaste.
METHOD AND MATERIALS
Fifty bovine incisors were selected, cleaned, and stored before being divided into five groups: a conventional toothpaste group (C) and three whitening toothpaste groups containing different abrasive agents: silica (S), hydrogen peroxide (PH), and activated charcoal (CA). Specimens underwent simulated brushing, staining with black tea solution, and subsequent analyses of color, surface roughness, and microhardness. Statistical analysis was performed using three-way ANOVA and Tukey post-hoc tests (P < .05).
RESULTS
The results showed that the color analysis revealed similar whitening potential among all toothpastes. Otherwise, showed significant differences in surface roughness (P < .001) and microhardness (P < .001) after simulated brushing. While all toothpastes caused a decrease in microhardness, the charcoal-based toothpaste showed a significant increase in surface roughness compared to the initial condition.
CONCLUSION
All toothpastes demonstrated whitening capability. Surface roughness changed after brushing with activated charcoal-based whitening toothpaste, but final roughness was similar across all groups. Whitening toothpastes led to a decrease in enamel microhardness, with similar final performance across all toothpastes analyzed.

Sweat passive-cooling textiles with asymmetric wettabilities on different sides offer an effective and low-energy consumption solution to personal thermal management in extreme thermal environments. However, the sweat-wicking and the cooling abilities decrease when the textile is contaminated by low-surface tension oily liquid fouling. The integration of anti-oily liquid fouling and sweat-wicking abilities on textile involves resolving the contradiction between hydrophilic and oleophobic properties and seeking eco-friendly short-chain fluorides to reduce the surface energy. Herein, a sustainable oily liquid-proof passive cooling (SOC) textile for personal thermal management is proposed. The SOC textile is obtained by applying a fluoride-free hydrophobic coating layer to one side of the high thermal conductive superoleophobic/superhydrophilic basal textile, which is fabricated using eco-friendly short-chain fluoride. The SOC textile preserves the anti-oily liquid fouling property even after 2000 abrasion cycles. Experimental test revealed that the SOC textile exhibits a cooling effect of ≈5 °C compared with the cotton textile, and the up to 70% reduction in sweating rate under the constant metabolic heat production rates. The configuration of the SOC textile would inspire the future design of intelligent textiles for personal thermal management, and the proposed strategy have implications for fabrication of eco-friendly oil-water separation materials.

Review
This study investigated the pathogenesis and pathophysiology of chronic epipharyngitis, which presents a variety of symptoms, with a focus on autonomic neuropathy symptoms, and also investigated the literature for information on EAT, which is useful as a treatment method. The mechanism of action of EAT has recently been clarified in terms of its immune system-stimulating and endocrine system-stimulating effects. However, the autonomic nerve-stimulating effects of EAT are still largely unexplained. This study was conducted to collect and integrate previous studies and papers focusing on the autonomic nerve-stimulating effects of EAT and to provide insight into the still not fully elucidated autonomic nerve-stimulating effects of EAT on chronic epipharyngitis. The local stimulating effects of zinc chloride and the bleeding and pain effects of EAT are also summarized, suggesting that EAT exerts its therapeutic effects through the interaction of the immune system, the endocrine system, and the autonomic nervous system. It is important to determine which mechanism is predominantly involved in each case of chronic epipharyngitis and to utilize it in treatment. Elucidating the effects of EAT on the autonomic nervous system will be an important guideline in determining the treatment strategy for chronic epipharyngitis.

Postoperative adhesion is a common complication after abdominal surgery, but current clinical products have unsatisfactory therapeutic effects. Here, we present a hydrogel patch formed in a single step through dialysis. The exchange of DMSO into water facilitates hydrophobic aggregate in situ formation and the formation of hydrogen bonds within the hydrogel. Thanks to the optimized component ratio and precise structural design. The hydrogel patch has soft-tissue-like mechanical characteristics, including high strength, high toughness, low modulus similar to the abdominal wall, good fatigue resistance, and fast self-recovery properties. The nonswellable hydrogel patch retains over 80% of its original mechanical properties after 7 days of immersion in physiological saline, with a maximum swelling ratio of 5.6%. Moreover, the hydrophobic biomultifunctionality of benzyl isothiocyanate can self-assemble onto the hydrogel patch during the sol-gel transition process, enabling it to remodel the inflammatory microenvironment through synergistic antibacterial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory effects. The hydrogel patch prevents postsurgical adhesion in a rat sidewall defect-cecum abrasion model and outperforms the leading commercial Interceed. It holds promising potential for clinical translation, considering that FDA-approved raw materials (PVA and gelatin) form the backbone of this effective hydrogel patch.

The mechanical properties of textile materials play a crucial role in determining their comfort, functionality, performance, safety, and aesthetics. Understanding and optimizing these properties is essential to meet consumer demands. Key aspects of mechanical properties, such as surface roughness, abrasion resistance, and compression, have a significant impact on the touch and durability of the material, as demonstrated by various research studies. This study focuses on analyzing the mechanical properties of materials produced of different polymer yarns and their changes under combined aging factors. The findings emphasize the significance of textile abrasion resistance and surface roughness measurement, particularly for aged materials. Although the use of recycled polyester yarn is sustainable and offers advantages such as higher tensile strength, the results have shown that the use of conventional polyester yarn is more advantageous overall as it has higher abrasion resistance, a smoother surface texture, and better elasticity retention after aging. The insights presented are vital for designing high-performance sportswear, which is crucial in today's competitive environment.

Review
Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylenes (UHMWPEs) are significant engineering plastics for their unique properties, such as high impact resistance, abrasion resistance, weatherability, lubricity, and chemical resistance. Consequently, developing a suitable catalyst is vital in facilitating the preparation of UHMWPE. The late transition metal catalysts have emerged as effective catalysts in producing UHMWPE due to their availability, enhanced tolerance to heteroatom groups, active polymerization characteristics, and good copolymerization ability with polar monomers. In this review, we mainly focus on the late transition metal catalysts, summarizing advancements in their application over the past decade. Four key metals (Ni, Pd, Fe, Co) for generating linear or branched UHMWPE will be primarily explored in this manuscript.

Amid the growing demand for sustainable pavement solutions and the need to incorporate recycled materials into construction practices, this study explored the viability of using crushed thermal power plant bottom ash as a filler in polymer-modified asphalt concrete mixtures. Conventional lime filler was replaced with bottom ash at varying levels (0%, 25%, 50%, and 75%), and the resulting mixtures were evaluated using several performance tests. The optimal replacement level was determined to be 25%, based on the results of the indirect tensile strength (ITS) test. Comparisons between the control mixture and the 25% bottom ash-modified mixture were conducted using the dynamic modulus test, Cantabro test, Hamburg wheel tracking (HWT) test, and tensile strength ratio (TSR) test. The findings indicate that the 25% bottom ash-modified mixture demonstrated improved performance across multiple parameters. The HWT test showed enhanced rut durability, with a recorded depth of 7.56 mm compared to 8.9 mm for the control mixture. The Cantabro test results revealed lower weight loss percentages for the modified mixture, indicating better abrasion resistance. The dynamic modulus test indicated higher resilience and stiffness in both high- and low-frequency stages. The TSR test highlighted improved moisture resistance, with higher TSR values after 10 wet-drying cycles. These improvements are attributed to the fine particle size and beneficial chemical composition of bottom ash, which enhance the asphalt mixture's density, binder-aggregate adhesion, and overall durability. The results suggest that incorporating 25% crushed bottom ash as a filler in polymer-modified asphalt concrete mixtures is a viable and sustainable approach to improving pavement performance and longevity.
