Acute hepatic failure may occasionally be complicated by toxic liver syndrome. Emergency hepatectomy for stabilization followed by delayed graft implantation is a recognized strategy in such cases in the setting of deceased donor liver transplantation. Living donor liver transplantation adds additional complexity to this scenario as the donor liver is a directed donation and failure to stabilize the patient after emergency hepatectomy can lead to a futile live donor hepatectomy, hepar-divisum, or an orphan graft. We report a case where the two-stage strategy was utilized to circumvent this situation. A patient with toxic liver syndrome underwent emergency hepatectomy and was closely monitored in the operating theater. A live donor hepatectomy was started after the recipient demonstrated cardiovascular and neurological stabilization. Graft implantation was completed after an anhepatic period of 9.45 h. To our knowledge, this is the first reported instance of using the two-stage strategy in living-donor-liver-transplantation for toxic liver syndrome to prevent futile donor surgery and achieve double equipoise.

BACKGROUND
Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for over 2 cm in size undifferentiated type (UD type) early gastric cancer (EGC) confined to the mucosa is not only challenging, but also long-term outcomes are not well known.
AIM
To evaluate the long-term outcomes of ESD done for UD type EGCs confined to the mucosa over 2 cm in size and compare the results with those where the lesions were less than 2 cm.
METHODS
143 patients with UD type EGC confirmed on histology after ESD at a tertiary hospital were reviewed. Cases with synchronous and metachronous lesions and a case with emergency surgery after ESD were excluded. A total of 137 cases were enrolled. 79 cases who underwent R0 resection were divided into 2 cm or less (group A) and over 2 cm (group B) in size.
RESULTS
Among 79 patients who underwent R0 resection, the number in group A and B were 51 and 28, respectively. The mean follow-up period (SD) was 79.71 ± 45.42 months. There was a local recurrence in group A (1/51, 2%) and group B (1/28, 3.6%) respectively. This patient in group A underwent surgery while the patient in group B underwent repeated ESD with no further recurrences in both patients. There was no regional lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis, and deaths in both groups. With R0 resection strategy for ESD on lesions over 2 cm, 20.4% (28/137) of patients were able to avoid surgery compared with expanded indication.
CONCLUSION
If R0 resection is achieved by ESD, UD type EGCs over 2 cm also showed good and similar clinical outcomes as compared to lesions less than 2 cm when followed for over 5 years. With R0 resection strategy, several patients can avoid surgery.

Extraction of U(VI) in water is of great significance in energy and environmental fields. However, the traditional methods usually fail due to the indispensable extra addition of catalyst, adsorbent, precipitant, or sacrificial agents, which may lead to enhanced extraction costs and secondary pollution. Here, a new efficient uranium extraction strategy is proposed based on triboelectricity without adding a catalyst or other additives. It is found only under the friction between the microbubbles (generated under ultrasonication) and the water flow, that reactive oxygen species (ROS) can largely be generated, which thus contributes to the solidification of U(VI) from water. In addition, the magnetic field can affect the phase of the product. Under mechanical stirring, the product contains (UO)O·2HO, while which contains UO(OH) and (UO)O·4HO under the magnetic stirring. Quenching experiments are also carried out to explore the influence of environmental factors. Most importantly, it shows great potential in the extraction of U(VI) from seawater. This work proposes a catalyst-free and light-free strategy toward the solidification of U(VI) from water, which avoids the secondary pollution of the catalyst to the environment and is low-cost, and has great potential in the real application.

The rational construction of efficient hypoxia-tolerant nanocatalysts capable of generating singlet oxygen (O) without external stimuli is of great importance for tumor therapy. Herein, uniformly dispersed and favorable biosafety profile graphitic carbon nitride quantum dots immobilized with Fe-N moieties modulated by axial O atom (denoted as O-Fe-N) are developed for converting HO into O via Russell reaction, without introducing external energy. Notably, O-Fe-N performs two interconnected catalytic properties: glutathione oxidase-mimic activity to provide substrate for subsequent O generation, avoiding the blunting anticancer efficacy by glutathione. The O-Fe-N catalyst demonstrates a specific activity of 79.58 U mg at pH 6.2, outperforming the most reported Fe-N catalysts. Density functional theory calculations demonstrate that the axial O atom can effectively modulate the relative position and electron affinity between Fe and N, lowering the activation energy, strengthening the selectivity, and thus facilitating the Russell-type reaction. The gratifying enzymatic activity stemming from the well-defined Fe-N/O structure can inhibit tumor proliferation by efficiently downregulating glutathione peroxidase 4 activity and inducing lipid peroxidation. Altogether, the O-Fe-N catalyst not only represents an efficient platform for self-cascaded catalysis to address the limitations of O-involved cancer treatment but also provides a paradigm to enhance the performance of the Fe-N catalyst.

Salinity can be an environmental stressor for anurans, as their highly permeable skin makes them prone to osmotic stress when exposed to saline conditions. However, certain anuran species have colonized areas near saltwater habitats, suggesting an ability to acclimate to saline conditions. Here, we evaluated physiological and behavioral responses to saline conditions in adult Cuban treefrogs (Osteopilus septentrionalis), an invasive anuran found throughout Florida. To examine their response to salinity, adult frogs were maintained in two treatments simulating a freshwater (0.5 ppt) or brackish (8.0 ppt) environment for 6 weeks. To assess their physiological response to this potential stressor, all frogs were submerged in a brackish solution to quantify individual weight change every 2 weeks. We found that frogs maintained in brackish solution lost more weight at Weeks 2 and 6 when compared to Week 0, suggesting that salinity may be an environmental stressor for Cuban treefrogs. Yet, the weight change at Week 4 was similar to the pre-exposure period, which may indicate that constant exposure to salinity may alter their physiological response to saline conditions. To supplement the physiological analyses, we investigated avoidance behavior toward saline conditions by offering individuals a choice between freshwater or brackish environments. Our results showed that Cuban treefrogs chose freshwater environments more frequently and may thus avoid saline ones. This study reveals that salinity may induce plastic and avoidance responses in Cuban treefrogs, potentially allowing them to expand their range into areas typically stressful for most anurans.

Plasma cell mucositis (PCM) is an unusual disorder most evident in the accessible mucosa and usually reported in the upper aerodigestive tract, although it is named according to its specific anatomical site of involvement such as plasma cell cheilitis, plasma cell gingivitis, plasma cell vulvitis, and Zoon's balanitis. PCM reflects a dense polyclonal rather than a monoclonal plasma cell proliferation of unclear and unknown etiology. This perplexing disorder tends to be treated by avoiding possible triggers and intralesional and/or systemic steroids. In this work, we provide a review and update on PCM, which often represents a clinical conundrum.

Over the past few decades, significant improvements in maize yield have been largely attributed to increased plant density of upright hybrid varieties rather than increased yield per plant. However, dense planting triggers shade avoidance responses (SAR) that optimize light absorption but impair plant vigor and performance, limiting yield improvement through increasing plant density. In this study, we demonstrated that high-density induced leaf angle narrowing and stem/stalk elongation are largely dependent on phytochrome B (phyB1/B2), the primary photoreceptor responsible for perceiving red (R) and far-red (FR) light in maize. Maize phyB physically interacts with the LIGULELESS1 (LG1), a classical key regulator of leaf angle, to coordinately regulate plant architecture and density tolerance. The abundance of LG1 is significantly increased by phyB under high R:FR light (low density) but rapidly decreases under low R:FR light (high density), correlating with variations in leaf angle and plant height under various densities. Additionally, we identified the homeobox transcription factor HB53 as a target co-repressed by both phyB and LG1 but rapidly induced by canopy shade, indicating its central role in response to varying densities. Notably, HB53 regulates plant architecture by controlling the elongation and division of ligular adaxial and abaxial cells. These findings uncover the phyB-LG1-HB53 regulatory module as a key molecular mechanism governing plant architecture and density tolerance, providing potential genetic targets for breeding maize hybrid varieties optimized for high-density planting.

BACKGROUND
The link between the prostate microbiome and prostate cancer remains unclear. Few studies have analyzed the microbiota of prostate tissue, and these have been limited by potential contamination by transrectal biopsy. Transperineal prostate biopsy offers an alternative and avoids fecal cross-contamination. We aim to characterize the prostate microbiome using transperineal biopsy.
METHODS
Patients with clinical suspicion for prostate cancer who were to undergo transperineal prostate biopsy with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) fusion guidance were prospectively enrolled from 2022 to 2023. Patients were excluded if they had Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System lesions with scores ≤ 3, a history of prostate biopsy within 1 year, a history of prostate cancer, or antibiotic use within 30 days of biopsy. Tissue was collected from the MRI target lesions and nonneoplastic transitional zone. Bacteria were identified using 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing.
RESULTS
Across the 42 patients, 76% were found to have prostate cancer. Beta diversity indices differed significantly between the perineum, voided urine, and prostate tissue. There were no beta diversity differences between cancerous or benign tissue, or between pre- and postbiopsy urines. There appear to be unique genera more abundant in cancerous versus benign tissue. There were no differences in alpha diversity indices relative to clinical findings including cancer status, grade, and risk group.
CONCLUSIONS
We demonstrate a rigorous method to better characterize the prostate microbiome using transperineal biopsy and to limit contamination. These findings provide a framework for future large-scale studies of the microbiome of prostate cancer.

Human milk provides the infant with many bioactive factors, including immunomodulating components, antimicrobials and prebiotics, which modulate the infant microbiome and immune system maturation. As a result, breastfeeding can impact infant health from infancy, through adolescence, and into adulthood. From protecting the infant from infections, to reducing the risk of obesity, type 1 diabetes and childhood leukaemia, many positive health outcomes are observed in infants receiving breastmilk. For the mother, breastfeeding protects against postpartum bleeding and depression, increases weight loss, and long-term lowers the risk of type 2 diabetes, breast and ovarian cancer, and cardiovascular diseases. Beyond infants and mothers, the wider society is also impacted because of avoidable costs relating to morbidity and mortality derived from a lack of human milk exposure. In this review, Medline was used to search for relevant articles to discuss the health benefits of breastfeeding and its societal impact before exploring future recommendations to enhance our understanding of the mechanisms behind breastfeeding's positive effects and promote breastfeeding on a global scale.

Chromium-based metal-organic frameworks (Cr-MOFs) are very attractive in a wide range of applications due to their robustness and high porosity. However, the kinetic inertness of chromium ions results in the synthesis of Cr-MOFs often taking prolonged reaction times, which limit their industrial applications. Herein, we report a novel synthesis strategy based on coordination substitution, which overcomes the kinetic inertness of chromium ions and can synthesize Cr-MOFs in a shorter time. The versatility of this strategy has been demonstrated by producing several known Cr-MOFs, such as TYUT-96Cr, MIL-100Cr, MIL-101Cr, and MIL-53Cr. PXRD, SEM, TEM, 77 K N adsorption, and TGA have proved that the Cr-MOFs synthesized using this new strategy have good crystallinity, high porosity, and excellent thermal stability. The synthesis mechanism was investigated using theoretical calculations.
