Self-sensing adaptability is a high-level intelligence in living creatures and is highly desired for their biomimetic soft robots for efficient interaction with the surroundings. Self-sensing adaptability can be achieved in soft robots by the integration of sensors and actuators. However, current strategies simply assemble discrete sensors and actuators into one robotic system and, thus, dilute their synergistic and complementary connections, causing low-level adaptability and poor decision-making capability. Here, inspired by vertebrate animals supported by highly evolved backbones, we propose a concept of a bionic spine that integrates sensing and actuation into one shared body based on the reversible piezoelectric effect and a decoupling mechanism to extract the environmental feedback. We demonstrate that the soft robots equipped with the bionic spines feature locomotion speed improvements between 39.5% and 80% for various environmental terrains. More importantly, it can also enable the robots to accurately recognize and actively adapt to changing environments with obstacle avoidance capability by learning-based gait adjustments. We envision that the proposed bionic spine could serve as a building block for locomotive soft robots toward more intelligent machine-environment interactions in the future.

OBJECTIVE
Social media (SM), with its addictive nature and the accompanying psychosocial challenges such as stress, anxiety, and depression, is the primary factor exacerbating mental health problems and adversely impacting individuals' wellbeing. Our study's goal was to determine how SM affects employees' psychosocial behaviours and assess the various factors that contributed to the employee's excessive use of SM.
METHODS
A cross-sectional correlational analysis was conducted. Using a relevant questionnaire on employees, the study was assessed to establish the relationship or association between SM addiction and psychosocial disorders like depression, anxiety, and stress. 200 people with a minimum age of 24 were enrolled in the study. The questionnaire contained the social networking addiction scale (SNAS) and the depression, anxiety, and stress-21 (DASS-21) scales; the data were statistically assessed.
RESULTS
The association between SM addiction and psychosocial behaviours has been examined using statistical tools including descriptive statistics and the Chi-square analysis. SM addiction has a strong, statistically significant correlation with depression (p = 0.001), stress (p = 0.001), and anxiety (p = 0.001).
CONCLUSION
This study discovered a connection between SM use and depression, stress, and anxiety among working employees, raising questions regarding worries about overuse and addiction to SM. Various factors influencing excessive usage included revealed that employees also majorly over used SM for entertainment, boredom avoidance, constant knowledge sharing, and relationship-building.

Persistent physical symptoms (synonymous with persistent somatic symptoms) is an umbrella term for distressing somatic complaints that last several months or more, regardless of their cause. These symptoms are associated with substantial disability and represent a major burden for patients, health-care professionals, and society. Persistent physical symptoms can follow infections, injuries, medical diseases, stressful life events, or arise de novo. As symptoms persist, their link to clearly identifiable pathophysiology often weakens, making diagnosis and treatment challenging. Multiple biological and psychosocial risk factors and mechanisms contribute to the persistence of somatic symptoms, including persistent inflammation; epigenetic profiles; immune, metabolic and microbiome dysregulation; early adverse life experiences; depression; illness-related anxiety; dysfunctional symptom expectations; symptom focusing; symptom learning; and avoidance behaviours, with many factors being common across symptoms and diagnoses. Basic care consists of addressing underlying pathophysiology and using person-centred communication techniques with validation, appropriate reassurance, and biopsychosocial explanation. If basic care is insufficient, targeted psychological and pharmacological interventions can be beneficial. A better understanding of the multifactorial persistence of somatic symptoms should lead to more specific, personalised, and mechanism-based treatment, and a reduction in the stigma patients commonly face.

BACKGROUND
Individual differences in commitment to lifelong learning, a process aimed at seizing opportunities for self-development, have not been extensively studied.
OBJECTIVE
Our aim is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the decision-making mechanisms involved in pursuing learning for self-development.
METHOD
We conducted a literature review on the taxing nature of cognitive exertion and its impact on the inclination to engage in cognitively demanding tasks for learning, as well as individual differences in sensitivity to aversive or rewarding outcomes inherent in the learning process.
RESULTS
Our findings indicate that the Expected Value of Control (EVC) theory can elucidate the former, while research on approach-avoidance motivation can shed light on the latter.
CONCLUSION
We propose and develop an integrated framework that incorporates both lines of research. This framework holds relevance for neuropsychology, experimental psychology, and education psychology, offering theoretical guidance for tailoring learning experiences to enhance engagement and commitment to self-development.

INTRODUCTION
Avoidance is a well-documented risk factor for poor mental and physical health outcomes. However, limited research has explored this relationship specifically among trauma-exposed veterans, a population known to be particularly prone to avoidance behavior. Conceptually, avoidance is often divided into two distinct but overlapping constructs - experiential avoidance (resisting distressing internal states) and behavioral avoidance (avoiding or changing experiences that elicit distress). In this exploratory survey study, we examined associations between behavioral and experiential avoidance and mental, physical, and cognitive functioning, as well as quality of life.
METHODS
Veterans with a trauma history (N = 89) completed a 121-item survey containing validated assessments to examine several mental and physical health and wellness-related variables. Correlations between experiential avoidance and outcome measures, and behavioral avoidance and outcome measures, were explored. Multivariable linear regression analyses were conducted to explore the association between experiential and behavioral avoidance on mental health outcomes. In addition, we conducted exploratory analyses in which we investigated these correlations in those who screened positive for PTSD versus those who did not, and between different types of behavioral avoidance and major outcomes.
RESULTS
Experiential avoidance was moderately correlated with distress from depressive symptoms, distress related to past trauma, and health-related and cognitive dysfunction. Experiential Avoidance was weakly correlated with distress from anxiety symptoms and poorer quality of life. Behavioral avoidance was moderately correlated with distress from depressive and anxiety symptoms, distress related to past trauma, and cognitive dysfunction, and was weakly correlated with health-related dysfunction and poorer quality of life. Results from multivariable analyses revealed that experiential avoidance was associated with greater distress related to depressive symptoms and past trauma, and behavioral avoidance was associated with greater distress related to anxiety symptoms, depressive symptoms, and past trauma.
CONCLUSIONS
Results suggest that avoidance negatively influences major domains of mental and physical health as well as functioning and health-related quality of life in trauma-exposed veterans. They further indicate that behavioral and experiential avoidance may be differentially linked to mental health outcomes. The results support the idea that avoidance may be an important marker for psychosocial functioning and may serve as a treatment target in trauma-exposed veterans.

Social stress is a negative emotional experience that can increase fear and anxiety. Dominance status can alter the way individuals react to and cope with stressful events. The underlying neurobiology of how social dominance produces stress resistance remains elusive, although experience-dependent changes in androgen receptor (AR) expression is thought to play an essential role. Using a Syrian hamster (Mesocricetus auratus) model, we investigated whether dominant individuals activate more AR-expressing neurons in the posterior dorsal and posterior ventral regions of the medial amygdala (MePD, MePV), and display less social anxiety-like behavior following social defeat stress compared to subordinate counterparts. We allowed male hamsters to form and maintain a dyadic dominance relationship for 12 days, exposed them to social defeat stress, and then tested their approach-avoidance behavior using a social avoidance test. During social defeat stress, dominant subjects showed a longer latency to submit and greater c-Fos expression in AR+ cells in the MePD/MePV compared to subordinates. We found that social defeat exposure reduced the amount of time animals spent interacting with a novel conspecific 24 h later, although there was no effect of dominance status. The amount of social vigilance shown by dominants during social avoidance testing was positively correlated with c-Fos expression in AR+ cells in the MePV. These findings indicate that dominant hamsters show greater neural activity in AR+ cells in the MePV during social defeat compared to their subordinate counterparts, and this pattern of neural activity correlates with their proactive coping response. Consistent with the central role of androgens in experience-dependent changes in aggression, activation of AR+ cells in the MePD/MePV contributes to experience-dependent changes in stress-related behavior.

BACKGROUND
Research on learners' reactions to failure finds negative emotions may present an obstacle for learning; a painful experience of failure may result in disengagement and avoidance. However, research on styles of emotion regulation and learning from failure is scarce. Self-determination theory's (SDT) conception of adaptive and maladaptive emotion regulation differentiates among three styles of regulation: integrative emotion regulation (IER), suppressive emotion regulation (SER) and amotivated emotion regulation.
AIMS
Two studies were conducted, one cross-sectional and one longitudinal, to test the associations between IER and learning from failure among adolescents.
SAMPLE
Study 1 comprised 184 adolescents (mean age = 16.55; SD = 1.2). Study 2 comprised 565 adolescents (8-12 graders). The main analysis was based on 192 adolescents' perceptions of failing math grades.
METHOD
Study 1 surveyed adolescents on their emotion regulation styles, adaptive and maladaptive coping practices when dealing with failure and tendency to learn from failure. Study 2 was longitudinal and focused on failure in math. We approached participants twice, before and after the math test.
CONCLUSIONS
In both studies, IER was related to adaptive coping practices and the tendency to learn from failure. In Study 2, adaptive coping practices mediated relations between IER and learning from failure in math and learning from failure mediated relations between IER and future engagement. These findings suggest that styles of emotion regulation play an important role in learning from failure.

Effect of care bundles based on importance degree analysis on postoperative comorbid state, coping style and disease management ability of patients with coronary heart disease.
Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a significant global health concern, particularly among the elderly. While care bundles present a comprehensive strategy for clinical disorders, their application in CHD rehabilitation remains understudied. This research addresses this gap by investigating the effectiveness of care bundles in CHD patients. By analyzing important performance degrees, we aim to contribute valuable insights to bridge existing knowledge deficiencies. Our study strives to establish a theoretical foundation for the broader implementation of care bundles, potentially improving the quality of care and patient outcomes in CHD rehabilitation. This is a retrospective study. 360 patients with CHD who were admitted to our hospital from January 2019 to October 2022 were enrolled in this retrospective study and divided into the observation group (n = 180) and control group (n = 180) according to the different care that they received. All cases were given routine nursing after CHD operation, and the observation group was given care bundles on the basis of the analysis of important performance degrees. The perioperative indexes, self-management ability score, depression, anxiety, stress scale (DASS), coping styles, medical compliance and the incidence of complications were compared between the 2 groups. Aftercare, the time of hospitalization and getting out-of-bed in the observation group was notably shorter (P < .05). Aftercare, the scores of self-management ability and related dimensions in the observation group were notably higher (P < .05). After care, the score of depression (P < .001), anxiety (P = .003) and stress (P = .017) of the observation group were notably lower. Aftercare, the observation group face score was significantly higher than the control group (P = .005), while the observation group avoidance score (P = .028) and yield score (P < .001) were significantly lower than the control group scores. Aftercare, the compliance behavior of patients in the observation group was notably better (P = .013). Aftercare, the incidence of complications in the observation group was notably lower (P = .039). Care bundles based on the degree of importance analysis can play a positive role in postoperative comorbid state, coping styles and self-management ability of patients with CHD, which can improve the rehabilitation effects on patients.

People form impressions about others during daily social encounters and infer personality traits from others' behaviors. Such trait inference is thought to rely on two universal dimensions: competence and warmth. These two dimensions can be used to construct a 'social cognitive map' organizing massive information obtained from social encounters efficiently. Originating from spatial cognition, the neural codes supporting the representation and navigation of spatial cognitive maps have been widely studied. Recent studies suggest similar neural mechanism subserves the map-like architecture in social cognition as well. Here we investigated how spatial codes operate beyond the physical environment and support the representation and navigation of social cognitive map. We designed a social value space defined by two dimensions of competence and warmth. Behaviorally, participants were able to navigate to a learned location from random starting locations in this abstract social space. At the neural level, we identified the representation of distance in the precuneus, fusiform gyrus, and middle occipital gyrus. We also found partial evidence of grid-like representation patterns in the medial prefrontal cortex and entorhinal cortex. Moreover, the intensity of grid-like response scaled with the performance of navigating in social space and social avoidance trait scores. Our findings suggest a neurocognitive mechanism by which social information can be organized into a structured representation, namely cognitive map and its relevance to social well-being.

BACKGROUND
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a complex and common neurodegenerative disorder. The present study aimed to investigate the potential effects of selegiline (SEL) on various aspects of memory performance, anxiety, and oxidative stress in an AD rat model induced by intracerebroventricular injection of amyloid beta (Aβ).
METHODS
Oral administration of SEL at a dose of 0.5 mg/kg/day was performed for 30 consecutive days. Following the 30 days, several tests, including the open-field, elevated plus-maze, novel object recognition, Morris water maze, and passive avoidance learning were conducted to assess locomotor activity, anxiety-like behavior, recognition memory, spatial memory, and passive avoidance memory, respectively.
RESULTS
The results indicate that the induction of AD in rats led to recognition memory, spatial memory, and passive avoidance memory impairments, as well as increased anxiety. Additionally, the AD rats exhibited a decrease in total antioxidant capacity and an increase in total oxidant status levels, suggesting an imbalance in oxidative-antioxidant status. However, the administration of SEL improved memory performance, reduced anxiety, and modulated oxidative-antioxidant status in AD rats.
CONCLUSIONS
These findings provide evidence that SEL may alleviate anxiety-like behavior and cognitive deficits induced by Aβ through modulation of oxidative-antioxidant status.
