Chiral multiferroics offer remarkable capabilities for controlling quantum devices at multiple levels. However, these materials are rare due to the competing requirements of long-range orders and strict symmetry constraints. In this study, we present experimental evidence that the coexistence of ferroelectric, magnetic orders, and crystallographic chirality is achievable in hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites [(R/S)-β-methylphenethylamine]CuCl. By employing Landau symmetry mode analysis, we investigate the interplay between chirality and ferroic orders and propose a novel mechanism for chirality transfer in hybrid systems. This mechanism involves the coupling of non-chiral distortions, characterized by defining a pseudo-scalar quantity, ( represents the ferroelectric displacement vector and denotes the ferro-rotational vector), which distinguishes between (R)- and (S)-chirality based on its sign. Moreover, the reversal of this descriptor's sign can be associated with coordinated transitions in ferroelectric distortions, Jahn-Teller antiferro-distortions, and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya vectors, indicating the mediating role of crystallographic chirality in magnetoelectric correlations.

Two classic experimental paradigms - masked repetition priming and the boundary paradigm - have played a pivotal role in understanding the process of visual word recognition. Traditionally, these paradigms have been employed by different communities of researchers, with their own long-standing research traditions. Nevertheless, a review of the literature suggests that the brain-electric correlates of word processing established with both paradigms may show interesting similarities, in particular with regard to the location, timing, and direction of N1 and N250 effects. However, as of yet, no direct comparison has been undertaken between the two paradigms. In the current study, we used combined eye-tracking/EEG to perform such a within-subject comparison using the same materials (single Chinese characters) as stimuli. To facilitate direct comparisons, we used a simplified version of the boundary paradigm - the single word boundary paradigm. Our results show the typical early repetition effects of N1 and N250 for both paradigms. However, repetition effects in N250 (i.e., a reduced negativity following identical-word primes/previews as compared to different-word primes/previews) were larger with the single word boundary paradigm than with masked priming. For N1 effects, repetition effects were similar across the two paradigms, showing a larger N1 after repetitions as compared to alternations. Therefore, the results indicate that at the neural level, a briefly presented and masked foveal prime produces qualitatively similar facilitatory effects on visual word recognition as a parafoveal preview before a single saccade, although such effects appear to be stronger in the latter case.

Ankle fractures are common injuries that can significantly impact mobility and quality of life. Rehabilitation following ankle fracture treatment is crucial for recovery, yet adherence to regimens remains a challenge. Behaviour Change Techniques (BCTs) have been suggested to improve adherence, but their effectiveness in ankle fracture rehabilitation is not well established. This review aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of BCTs in the rehabilitation of ankle fracture patients. We conducted a comprehensive search across multiple databases, including MEDLINE and EMBASE, focusing on Randomised Controlled Trials (RCTs) that incorporated BCTs into rehabilitation interventions. The effectiveness of BCTs on patient-reported outcomes (PROMs), quality of life, and adverse events was analysed. Nine RCTs met the inclusion criteria, encompassing a range of interventions that employed BCTs, most commonly including goal setting and instruction on how to perform behaviours, specifically physiotherapy exercises. The review found limited evidence supporting their effectiveness in improving PROMs. Only one study showed a significant positive effect, but it was deemed at high risk of bias. The lack of integration of behavioural theory in the design of rehabilitation interventions and the varied nature of the BCTs employed across studies may contribute to these findings. The use of BCTs in ankle fracture rehabilitation is prevalent, but this review highlights a significant gap their role of enhancing patient outcomes. Future research should incorporate a theory-based approach to intervention design, utilising a broader range of BCTs, to fully evaluate their potential in improving rehabilitation adherence and outcomes following ankle fracture .

Results of a 12-Week Open-Label, Non-Interventional Study of the Efficacy and Safety of Olokizumab Therapy in Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis after Switching from Anti-B-Cell Therapy during the SARS-CoV-2 Pandemic.

ABSTTACT: -The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly changed the understanding of the safety profile of therapies for immunoinflammatory rheumatic diseases (IRDs). This is primarily due to the negative impact of a number of basic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) and genetically engineered biological drugs (biological DMARDs, or biologics) on the course and outcomes of a new coronavirus infection. A number of studies have shown that anti-B-cell therapy (rituximab) gave a statistically significant increase in the risk of severe COVID-19 and an increase in mortality. At the same time, the analysis of real clinical practice data dictated the need to establish a number of restrictions on the use of certain classes of biologics and to search for alternative therapy programs to maintain control over disease activity.
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
The purpose of the study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the drug Artlegia® (olokizumab), solution for subcutaneous injection, 160 mg/ml-0.4 ml, manufactured by R-Pharm JSC, Russia) for the treatment of patients with rheumatoid arthritis in real clinical practice after switching with rituximab during the COVID-19 pandemic.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
The study included 14 patients with a confirmed diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), who were previously on rituximab therapy at a dose of 1000-500 mg twice with an interval of 2 weeks, who received at least one course of therapy with this drug. As RA worsened, patients were switched to olokizumab against the background of standard DMARDs. On weeks 0, 4, 8, and 12 after the switch, the severity of pain was assessed on the VAS scale, the number of tender and swollen joints (TJC28 and SJC28), the level of acute-phase inflammation markers, the DAS28 (disease activity score), ESR, CRP, CDAI (clinical activity index), and the functional state index HAQ (Health Assessment Questionnaire) were determined, as well as the safety profile of therapy was assessed.
RESULTS
Data analysis was performed using median values (Me) were used for data analysis. A significant decrease in TJC28 was detected after 8 and 12 weeks of treatment with olokizumab (Artlegia®) (Me baseline = 10, Me 8 weeks = 4, Me 12 weeks = 4, p < 0.05) and a decrease in TSC28 was detected after 4, 8, and 12 weeks of treatment (Me baseline = 9, Me 4 weeks = 3.5, Me 8 weeks = 2.5, Me 12 weeks = 2.0, p < 0.05). Laboratory markers of inflammation showed a decrease in CRP and ESR levels after 4 weeks of treatment (CRP: Me4 weeks = 21, Me4 weeks = 1, p < 0.05, ESR: Mesno = 31, Me4 weeks = 7, p < 0.05). Positive dynamics persisted on 8 and 12 weeks (CRP: Me 8 weeks = 1, Me 12 weeks = 0; ESR: Me 8 weeks = 4, Me 12 weeks = 5). The level of CRP by week 4 became within the normal range, regardless of the initial values. All activity indices improved from week 4 in each evaluation period compared to baseline: DAS28-ESR: Me baseline = 5.52, Me 4 weeks = 3.59, Me 8 weeks = 3.33, Me 12 weeks = 3.22, p < 0.05; DAS28CRP: Me baseline = 5.39, Me 4 weeks = 3.71, Me 8 weeks = 3.35, Me 12 weeks = 3.45, p < 0.05; CDAI: Me baseline = 28.5, Me 4 weeks = 18.0, Me 8 weeks = 16.5, Me 12 weeks = 16.0, p < 0.05. All patients showed a reduction in pain (VAS scale) by week 8. The functional status of patients, according to the HAQ index, showed a significant decrease only by week 12 of the study: Me baseline = 1.62, Me 12 weeks = 1.31, p < 0.05.
CONCLUSIONS
The study found that switching from rituximab to olokizumab was effective and safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

CoFe@C was first prepared by calcining the precursor of CoFe-metal-organic framework-74 (CoFe-MOF-74), then an electrochemical sensor for the determination of neohesperidin dihydrochalcone (NHDC) was constructed, which was stemmed from the novel CoFe@C/Nafion composite film modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The CoFe@C/Nafion composite was verified by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was used to evaluate its electrical properties as a modified material for an electrochemical sensor. Compared with CoFe-MOF-74 precursor modified electrode, CoFe@C/Nafion electrode exhibited a great synergic catalytic effect and extremely increased the oxidation peak signal of NHDC. The effects of various experimental conditions on the oxidation of NHDC were investigated and the calibration plot was tested. The results bespoken that CoFe@C/Nafion GCE has good reproducibility and anti-interference under the optimal experimental conditions. In addition, the differential pulse current response of NHDC was linear with its concentration within the range 0.08 ~ 20 µmol/L, and the linear regression coefficient was 0.9957. The detection limit was as low as 14.2 nmol/L (S/N = 3). In order to further verify the feasibility of the method, it was successfully used to determine the content of NHDC in Chinese medicine, with a satisfactory result, good in accordance with that of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).

Soil represents a complex and dynamic ecosystem, hosting a myriad of microorganisms that coexist and play vital roles in nutrient cycling and organic matter transformation. Among these microorganisms, bacteria and fungi are key members of the microbial community, profoundly influencing the fate of nitrogen, sulfur, and carbon in terrestrial environments. Understanding the intricacies of soil ecosystems and the biological processes orchestrated by microbial communities necessitates a deep dive into their composition and metabolic activities. The advent of next-generation sequencing and 'omics' techniques, such as metagenomics and metaproteomics, has revolutionized our understanding of microbial ecology and the functional dynamics of soil microbial communities. Metagenomics enables the identification of microbial community composition in soil, while metaproteomics sheds light on the current biological functions performed by these communities. However, metaproteomics presents several challenges, both technical and computational. Factors such as the presence of humic acids and variations in extraction methods can influence protein yield, while the absence of high-resolution mass spectrometry and comprehensive protein databases limits the depth of protein identification. Notwithstanding these limitations, metaproteomics remains a potent tool for unraveling the intricate biological processes and functions of soil microbial communities. In this review, we delve into the methodologies and challenges of metaproteomics in soil research, covering aspects such as protein extraction, identification, and bioinformatics analysis. Furthermore, we explore the applications of metaproteomics in soil bioremediation, highlighting its potential in addressing environmental challenges.

To determine the causal relationship between educational attainment and the risk of allergic rhinitis and (or) eczema using Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses. This study was a secondary data analysis based on the summary data of genome-wide association studies (GWAS), which involved 293 723 participants (educational attainment) from the Social Science Genetics Association Consortium and 462 013 participants [allergic rhinitis and (or) eczema] from the UK Biobank. Genetic variants that were closely related to educational attainment were identified as instrumental variables. Two-sample MR analyses, including inverse-variance weighted (IVW), MR-Egger regression, weighted median method and weighted model-based estimation, were performed to investigate the causal relationship between educational attainment and the risk of allergic rhinitis and (or) eczema, in which the odds ratio () values were used as indicators. A total of 70 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were chosen as instrumental variables. The MR-Egger regression results suggested that the genetic pleiotropy was unlikely to bias our results (=0.107). In the univariable MR analyses, IVW regression showed that the risk of allergic rhinitis and (or) eczema was =1.044 (95%: 1.020-1.069, 0.001) and =1.170 (95%: 1.074-1.256, 0.001), respectively, for the increase in the duration of education by one year or one standard deviation () (3.71 years). In the reverse MR analysis, IVW regression showed little evidence that allergic rhinitis and (or) eczema affected educational attainment (=1.020, 95%: 0.927-1.023, 0.683). The results of the weighted median method and weighted mode-based estimation were consistent with the results of IVW. This study suggests that there is a positive causal relationship between educational attainment and the risk of allergic rhinitis and (or) eczema, which means that educational attainment can increase the occurrence of allergic rhinitis and (or) eczema.

Neuropathic pain (NP), a severe chronic pain condition, remains a substantial clinical challenge due to its complex pathophysiology and limited effective treatments. An association between the members of the Fibroblast Growth Factors (FGFs), particularly Fgf3, and the development of NP has become evident. In this study, utilizing a mouse model of NP, we observed a time-dependent increase in Fgf3 expression at both mRNA and protein levels within the dorsal root ganglia (DRG). Functional studies revealed that blocking Fgf3 expression mitigated nerve injury induced nociceptive hypersensitivity, suggesting its pivotal role in pain modulation. Moreover, our findings elucidate that Fgf3 contributes to pain hypersensitivity through the activation of the Akt/mTOR signaling in injured DRG neurons. These results not only shed light on the involvement of Fgf3 in nerve injury-induced NP but also highlight its potential as a promising therapeutic target for pain management. This study thereby advances our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying NP and opens new avenues for the development of effective treatment strategies.

BACKGROUND
The number of total hip arthroplasty (THA) is increasing globally, including Japan. The Japanese Orthopaedic Association has been conducting a registry of joint replacement surgery, but there may be a gap between the reported numbers of THA in the registry and the actual number. This study aimed to investigate the exact number of THA and assess the trends in Japan using the National Database of Health Insurance Claims and Specific Health Checkups of Japan (NDB).
METHODS
We downloaded data from 2014 to 2019 from the NDB Open Data. Data on primary THA were extracted, and we calculated the annual number and number for each 10-year age group and sex. We also compared the number and trends between elderly and non-elderly groups.
RESULTS
During the study period, number of THAs increased by approximately 20,000, showing a continuous upward trend. The highest number of THAs were performed on patients in their 60s, except for the years 2014 and 2019. Comparison of the numbers in 2014 and 2019 by age group showed an increase in the number in patients in their 90s (by 2.05 times). There were significantly a greater number of elderly patients (P < 0.001). The number of THAs performed was higher in women than in men (P < 0.001).
CONCLUSION
The number of THAs in Japan increased substantially from 2014 to 2019, despite a decrease in population. Significantly higher number of THAs were performed on elderly patients in Japan, which might be due to an aging society. The NDB data is highly valuable for epidemiological research in Japan, as it might enable the early detection of issues occurring during THA, facilitating their prompt integration into daily clinical practice.
