Lobe-Based Hepatic Uptake Index of Gd-EOB-DTPA on Contrast-Enhanced MRI to Quantitatively Discriminate between Compensated and Decompensated Hepatitis B-Related Cirrhosis.
PURPOSE
To use hepatic uptake index (HUI) of liver lobes on gadolinium ethoxybenzyl diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid (Gd-EOB-DTPA)-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to discriminate between patients with hepatitis B-related cirrhosis in compensated and decompensated statuses.
METHODS
Forty-four consecutive patients with hepatitis B-related cirrhosis who underwent Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced MRI were divided into compensated and decompensated statuses based on clinical evaluation. Volume and signal intensity of individual lobes were retrospectively measured to calculate HUI of the right liver lobe (RHUI), medial (MHUI) and lateral (LHUI) left liver lobes, and caudate lobe (CHUI). Spearman's rank correlation analyses were performed to evaluate relationships of lobe-based HUI with Child-Pugh and model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) scoring system scores in compensated and decompensated statuses. The Mann-Whitney U-test was used to compare the lobe-based HUI between compensated and decompensated statuses. The performance of lobe-based HUI in distinguishing cirrhosis was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis, and the area under the ROC curve (AUC) was calculated as a measure of accuracy. Delong's method was used for statistical analysis to elucidate which HUI is optimal.
RESULTS
Compensated and decompensated liver cirrhosis were confirmed in 25 (56.82%) and 19 (43.18%) patients, respectively. According to Spearman's rank correlation analysis, RHUI, MHUI, LHUI, and CHUI were all significantly associated with Child-Pugh and MELD scores (all values <0.05). Receiver operating characteristic analysis demonstrated that among all lobe-based HUI parameters, RHUI could best perform the previous discrimination with a cut-off of 485.73 and obtain an AUC of 0.867. The AUC of RHUI improved and was significantly different from that of MHUI, LHUI, and CHUI ( = 0.03, = 0.007, and < 0.001, respectively, Delong's test).
CONCLUSIONS
The RHUI could help quantitatively discriminate hepatitis B-related cirrhosis between compensated and decompensated statuses.

Glycol lignin (GL) is produced via the acid-catalyzed solvolysis of softwood meal using glycols such as polyethylene glycol. The physicochemical and thermal properties of GL are expected to be controllable by varying the glycol type. In this study, caprylyl glycol (CG), which is a biobased glycol derived from the caprylic acid component of coconut and palm oils, was used to investigate the effects on the acid-catalyzed solvolysis of softwood. The reactions were performed at 140, 150, and 160 °C for 30-120 min to obtain lignin derivatives (CG-lignin: CGL). The chemical and physical properties of CGLs were investigated. Two-dimensional heteronuclear single-quantum coherence nuclear magnetic resonance analysis suggested that CGL possesses an α-CG-β-O-4 structure as CG is grafted onto the lignin structure. CGLs prepared at higher reaction temperatures exhibited lower molecular weights. The thermomechanical analysis of CGL revealed a glass transition temperature of 89-96 °C and a viscous thermal flow temperature of 134-155 °C.

Oligocene-Pliocene shale reservoirs in the Western Qaidam Depression represent typical mixed shale deposits characterized by moderate organic matter (OM) abundance and sufficient OM maturity, indicating substantial shale-oil resource potential. Here, a comprehensive study was conducted to analyze the reservoir characteristics of different shale types, including the Upper Xiaganchaigou (late Oligocene), Shangganchaigou (Miocene), and Xiayoushashan (early Pliocene) Formations in the Western Qaidam Depression. Our analysis focused on the pore structural characteristics of shale reservoirs, employing X-ray diffraction, casting thin sections, scanning electron microscopy, low-temperature nitrogen adsorption, and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) as investigative techniques. Our results show that (1) the study area comprises five typical shale types: lime shale, argillaceous shale, limestone, argillaceous limestone, and mudstone. The best hydrocarbon source rock conditions are found in the lime shale and argillaceous shale. (2) Inorganic pores, including dissolution pores, intergranular pores, bedding fractures, structural fractures, and intraparticle pores in clay minerals, are the main pore types found in the studied samples and constitute the primary reservoir space for shale oil. On the basis of fractal dimensions obtained through NMR, the pores can be classified as micropores (<100 nm), mesopores (100-1000 nm), or macropores (>1000 nm). Mesopores are the main contributors to porosity. (3) The development of micropores is positively correlated with clay mineral content. The development of mesopores and macropores is influenced by the quartz, feldspar, dolomite, and calcite contents. Calcite content exhibits a negative correlation with porosity, suggesting that later-stage pore cementation hinders shale reservoir development. (4) The five typical shale reservoirs in the study area can be categorized into three types. Type I reservoir lithologies include lime shale and argillaceous shale; type II reservoir lithologies include limestone and argillaceous limestone; and type III reservoirs comprise mudstone. Type I and II reservoirs are of better quality than type III.

The sol-gel route was used to synthesize a series of compounds of the system Bi.Ba.Pr.Fe Cr O within the 0 ≤ ≤ 0.15 compositional range. To explore the impact of Cr ion substitution on the structural, dielectric, optical, and magnetic properties, we introduced varying concentrations of Cr while maintaining a fixed 10% atomic concentration of each Ba and Pr in BiFeO. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed a structural phase transition from rhombohedral (3) for an undoped (i.e., without Cr) sample to two coexisting phases, i.e., a mix of rhombohedral and orthorhombic () phases for the Cr-doped samples. Cr doping significantly changes the band gap energy from 1.84 eV ( = 0.0) to 1.93 eV ( = 0.15), which makes this material suitable for photovoltaic applications. Furthermore, each sample exhibited ferromagnetic behavior due to the disruption of the spiral spin structures and adjustments in superexchange interactions, attributed to modifications in the Fe-O and Fe-O-Fe bond lengths. A reduction in magnetization is observed at higher Cr concentrations that can be ascribed to the dilution of magnetic moments due to the increase of the orthorhombic phase percentage and the introduction of nonmagnetic Cr ions. Our results show that Cr doping in the Bi.Ba.Pr.FeO system induces enhanced multiferroic properties at room temperature.

Vesicle hydrogels are supramolecular structures formed by the self-assembly of surfactant molecules in solution, which have great application prospects. The phase behavior of perfluorononanoic acid (CFCOOH) and an amphoteric hydrocarbon surfactant, tetradecyl dimethylaminoxide (CDMAO), in an aqueous solution has been studied. By changing the mixing ratio and concentration of CFCOOH and CDMAO, the phase diagram of the system was drawn, and interestingly, a hydrogel composed of polyhedral and spherical vesicles was successfully constructed. The formation mechanism of the polyhedral and spherical vesicle hydrogel was studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), small-angle X-ray diffraction (XRD), wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS), and H nuclear magnetic resonance (H NMR) measurements, and the rheological properties and influencing factors of the hydrogel were systematically investigated. The formation of the vesicle hydrogels in this system was considered to be caused by the "cocrystallization" of two surfactant molecular chains.

BACKGROUND
Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) are increasingly used in the first-line treatment of malignant tumors. There is increasing recognition of their cardiotoxicity and, in particular, their potential to lead to myocarditis. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) can quantify pathological changes, such as myocardial edema and fibrosis. The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to examine the evidence for the roles of CMR in predicting prognosis in ICI-associated myocarditis.
METHODS
PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases were searched until October 2023 for published works investigating the relationship between CMR parameters and adverse events in patients with ICI-associated myocarditis. The analysis included studies reporting the incidence of late gadolinium enhancement (LGE), T1 values, T2 values, and CMR-derived left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). Odds ratios (OR) and weighted mean differences (WMD) were combined for binary and continuous data, respectively. Newcastle-Ottawa Scale was used to assess the methodological quality of the included studies.
RESULTS
Five cohort studies were included (average age 65-68 years; 25.4% female). Of these, four studies were included in the meta-analysis of LGE-related findings. Patients with major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) had a higher incidence of LGE compared with patients without MACE (OR = 4.18, 95% CI: 1.72-10.19, = 0.002). A meta-analysis, incorporating data from two studies, showed that patients who developed MACE exhibited significantly higher T1 value (WMD = 36.16 ms, 95% CI: 21.43-50.89, < 0.001) and lower LVEF (WMD = - 8.00%, 95% CI: -13.60 to -2.40, = 0.005). Notably, T2 value (WMD = -0.23 ms, 95% CI: -1.86 to -1.39, = 0.779) was not associated with MACE in patients with ICI-related myocarditis.
CONCLUSIONS
LGE, T1 value, and LVEF measured by CMR imaging have potential prognostic value for long-term adverse events in patients with ICI-related myocarditis.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES
Pancreatic cancer (PC) is the third cause of cancer-related deaths. Early detection and interception of premalignant pancreatic lesions represent a promising strategy to improve outcomes. We evaluated risk factors of focal pancreatic lesions (FPLs) in asymptomatic individuals at hereditary high risk for PC.
METHODS
This is an observational single-institution cohort study conducted over a period of 5 years. Surveillance was performed through imaging studies (EUS or magnetic resonance imaging/magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography) and serum biomarkers. We collected demographic characteristics and used univariate and multivariate logistic regression models to evaluate associations between potential risk factors and odd ratios (ORs) for FPL development.
RESULTS
A total of 205 patients completed baseline screening. Patients were followed up to 53 months. We detected FPL in 37 patients (18%) at baseline; 2 patients had lesions progression during follow-up period, 1 of them to PC. Furthermore, 13 patients developed new FPLs during the follow-up period. Univariate and multivariate analyses revealed that new-onset diabetes (NOD) is strongly associated with the presence of FPL (OR, 10.94 [95% confidence interval, 3.01-51.79; < 0.001]; OR, 9.98 [95% confidence interval, 2.15-46.33; = 0.003]). Follow-up data analysis revealed that NOD is also predictive of lesions progression or development of new lesions during screening (26.7% 2.6%; = 0.005).
CONCLUSIONS
In a PC high-risk cohort, NOD is significantly associated with presence of FPL at baseline and predictive of lesions progression or new lesions during surveillance.

This case report presents a 64-year-old male with a giant intramuscular lipoma on the right lumbar region's latissimus dorsi muscle. The patient presented with painless swelling, which gradually increased over six years. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) confirmed the presence of the lipoma, prompting surgical intervention. The surgical procedure involved meticulous dissection and complete excision of the tumor. Histopathological examination validated the diagnosis. Comparative analyses with similar cases highlighted variations in surgical approaches and the challenges in managing intramuscular lipomas. This case emphasizes the importance of considering intramuscular lipomas in soft tissue mass differentials and the significance of comprehensive management strategies for optimal patient outcomes.

Premature aging syndrome is a rare condition characterized by premature aging and death. The exact pathogenic mechanisms underlying most premature aging syndromes are poorly understood. Here, we describe two sibling cases of premature aging syndrome of unknown etiology, with no identified significant genetic mutation, with the primary symptom of a prematurely aged appearance, and a chief complaint of marked short stature. The first patient was an eight-year-old Cambodian boy born to a third-degree consanguineous marriage. He visited our hospital with the chief complaint of short stature. His development was originally normal until he developed pneumonia when he was three years old. Neither of his parents had any symptoms or family history of similar abnormalities, except for his five-year-old sister, who also has a markedly short stature of 80.4 cm and a low body weight of 8.7 kg. Her face showed distinct macrognathia and relative macrocephaly. The brother's low-density lipoprotein cholesterol level was high (198 mg/dl), and brain magnetic resonance angiography and carotid ultrasound revealed severe atherosclerotic changes. Whole-exome sequencing results were insignificant for both patients. This case report aims to elucidate the pathogenesis and treatment of progeria. This report indicates the possibility of an unidentified type of premature aging syndrome.

Gastric cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the world. The occurrence of bone metastases (BM) in gastric cancer without prior gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms is a rare phenomenon that has been sporadically documented in the existing literature. We report a case of a 27-year-old male presenting with chief complaints of severe backache for one month. After an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and biopsy, the primary source of cancer was identified as a solitary gastric adenocarcinoma, supporting the diagnosis of bony metastases on the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the spine. The patient was planned to start on palliative chemotherapy (5-fluorouracil, leucovorin, oxaliplatin, and docetaxel {FLOT} regimen) with palliative radiotherapy of 20 Gy in five fractions to bony metastasis. The patient denied treatment and was discharged against medical advice.
