BACKGROUND
The mounted UV-C lamp requires no separate space or labor for transport, but data on its effectiveness for surface disinfection are scarce. We aimed to evaluate the performance of ceiling-mounted UV-C lamps.
METHODS
This study was conducted in an empty room with UV-C lamps in the biocontainment unit of a tertiary care hospital in South Korea. UV-C lamps were installed on the ceiling of the patient room, anteroom, and toilet. Each pathogen (Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Candida krusei, Bacillus cereus, and Mycobacterium peregrinum) was inoculated on blood agar plates and placed in 20 selected places from the UV-C lamp, and irradiation was applied for 15 min. As a control group, the bacterial solution was diluted 10,000 times and UV was not applied.
RESULTS
A mean ± SD of 5.95 ± 0.91 log reduction was observed with UV irradiation compared with the control. The log reduction was greatest for S. aureus [median, 7.05 (IQR, 6.49-7.26)] and least for M. peregrinum [median, 4.88 (IQR, 4.58-5.24)]. The degree of log reduction was inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the UV-C lamp (R = -0.12, p < 0.001).
CONCLUSIONS
In this study, ceiling-mounted UV-C demonstrated effective disinfection of at least 4-log reduction of the test organisms within a 4-m distance. Mounted UV-C lighting is a considerable option for improving surface disinfection.

INTRODUCTION
The postharvest physiological disorder known as 'black spot' in radish roots (Raphanus sativus) poses a significant challenge to quality maintenance during storage, particularly under summer conditions. The cause of this disorder, however, is poorly understood.
OBJECTIVES
Characterize the underlying causes of 'black spot' disorder in radish roots and identify strategies to delay its onset.
METHODS
Radish roots were placed in either polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or oriented polypropylene (OPP) packaging and stored for 4 days at 30 ℃. Appearance and physiological parameters were assessed and transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses were conducted to identify the key molecular and biochemical factors contributing to the disorder and strategies for delaying its onset and development.
RESULTS
OPP packaging effectively delayed the onset of 'black spot' in radishes, potentially due to changes in phenolic and lipid metabolism. Regarding phenolic metabolism, POD and PPO activity decreased, RsCCR and RsPOD expression was downregulated, genes involved in phenols and flavonoids synthesis were upregulated and their content increased, preventing the oxidative browning of phenols and generally enhancing stress tolerance. Regarding lipid metabolism, the level of alpha-linolenic acid increased, and genes regulating cutin and wax synthesis were upregulated. Notably, high flavonoid and low ROS levels collectively inhibited RsPLA2G expression, which reduced the production of arachidonic acid, pro-inflammatory compounds (LTA and PGG), and ROS, alleviating the inflammatory response and oxidative stress in radish epidermal tissues.
CONCLUSION
PVC packaging enhanced the postharvest onset of 'black spot' in radishes, while OPP packaging delayed both its onset and development. Our study provides insights into the response of radishes to different packaging materials during storage, and the causes and host responses that either enhance or delay 'black spot' disorder onset. Further studies will be conducted to confirm the molecular and biochemical processes responsible for the onset and development of 'black spot' in radishes.

BACKGROUND
Many hearts offered for pediatric heart transplantation (HT) are not placed. In 2016, we initiated a quality improvement endeavor to increase heart offer acceptance. This study assessed the effect of these interventions at our center.
METHODS
Evaluation of pre-/post-implementation cohorts (1/1/2008-12/31/2016 vs. 1/1/2017- 7/1/2023) comparing donor heart utilization. Six interventions were iterated over time to increase offer acceptance ("extended criteria"): ABO-incompatible transplant, ex vivo perfusion for distanced donors, 3-dimensional total cardiac volume (TCV) assessment, acceptance of Hepatitis-C or SARS-COV-2 infected donors, and institutional culture change favoring consideration of donors previously considered unacceptable (Public Health Service Risk, long CPR duration, etc.). Outcomes studied included annual HT volume, median waitlist duration, sequence number at acceptance, and post-transplant clinical outcomes.
RESULTS
From 1/2008-7/2023 annual transplant volume increased from 16/year to 25/year pre-/post-implementation. Three hundred-thirteen/389 (80%) listed patients were transplanted. Waitlist duration shortened post-implementation (P=0.01), as did the percentage of accepted heart offers utilizing at least one extended criterion (P<0.001). Institutional culture change and TCV assessment had the largest impact on donor heart utilization (P=0.04 &P<0.001). There was no difference in post-HT intubation or cardiovascular intensive care unit (CVICU) days (P= 0.05-0.9), though post-transplant hospitalization duration (P<0.001) increased. Post-transplant survival was unaffected by use of extended criteria hearts (P=0.3).
CONCLUSIONS
We report increased donor heart offer acceptance resulting from a longitudinal, multi-faceted effort to increase organ offer utilization, with institutional culture change and TCV assessments having the greatest impact. Use of extended criteria hearts was not associated with inferior survival.

Mosques are important places for Muslims where they perform their prayers. The congregators are exposed to hazardous pollutants such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) associated with dust. However, studies on PAHs exposure in religious places are scarce. Air-condition filter (ACF) dust can correspond to air quality to a certain extent, since dust particles derived from indoor and outdoor places stick to it. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate the 16 EPA PAHs in ACF dust from mosques to determine their levels, profiles, sources and risks. Average Σ16 PAHs concentrations were 1039, 1527, 2284 and 5208 ng/g in AC filter dust from mosques in residential (RM), suburban (SM), urban (UM) and car repair workshop (CRWM), respectively, and the differences were statistically significant (p < 0.001). Based on the molecular diagnostic PAH ratios, PAHs in mosques dust is emitted from local incomplete fuel combustion, as well as complete fossil fuels combustion sources (pyrogenic), petroleum spills, crude and fuel oil, traffic emissions, and other possible sources of industrial emissions in different functional areas. The incremental lifetime cancer risks (ILCRs) values for children and adults across the different types of mosques follow the order: CRWM > UM > SM > RM. ILCRs values for both children and adults were found in order: dermal contact > ingestion > inhalation. The cancer risk levels via ingestion for children were relatively higher than the adults. The values of cancer risk for children and adults via dermal contact and ingestion (except in RM) were categorized in the 'potentially high risk' category (> 10). The mean values of total cancer risks (CR) for children (5.74 × 10) and adults (5.07 × 10) in mosques also exceeded the accepted threat value (>10). Finally, it is recommended that regular and frequent monitoring of PAHs should be carried out in mosques to improve the quality and maintain the health of congregators around the globe.

As the imperative to address climate change becomes more pressing, there is an increasing focus on limiting global temperature increase to 1.5 °C by the century's end relative to 1990 levels. This compels economy-wide transformations in energy infrastructure, land use, and sustainability policies. During the recent Conference of Parties (COP28), nations committed to tripling renewable energy generation to a minimum of 11,000 GW by 2030 and increasing the global annual energy efficiency from 2 % to 4 % annually until 2030. Additionally, the Food and Agricultural Organization introduced a roadmap to transition the Agri-food system from a net emitter to a carbon sink. The role of carbon dioxide removals (CDRs) has become crucial in achieving climate targets, especially in the context of achieving net zero emissions by mid-century and removing residual emissions post-mid-century. This paper assesses the impact of these policies on emissions, energy structure, land use, and global warming temperature. The findings indicate that implementing the COP28 pledges and FAO roadmap leads to a warming temperature of 2 °C, falling short of the ambitious 1.5 °C temperature limit. Likewise, we see that shutting down fossil plants drives significant emissions and temperature reduction even without novel CDRs. The modeled result shows that Agricultural soil carbon and biochar contribute 47-58 % share of the total CDR deployed in the scenario. In conclusion, CDRs can expedite climate goals but must complement emission reduction efforts; hence, the transition away from fossil fuels should prompt the development of detailed roadmaps. Also, Also, more global efforts should be placed on nature-based CDR methods, as they offer diverse co-benefits.

Morocco is one of the main countries affected in North African with the scorpion envenomations. Faced with the threat, significant morbidity and a major risk of death especially in children, a detailed identification of scorpionic profile of stings remains important for health authorities at national or even regional level. The current study aims to establish the epidemiological, clinical, biological and evolutionary data of the scorpionism by analyzing 383 cases of scorpion stings in children from three age groups (< 1 year, 1-5 years and > 5 years), admitted at the Regional Hospital Hassan II-Agadir in the Souss Massa region during the period of 9 years and 10 months from January 2013 to October 2022. Our results showed that patients under 1 year of age presented the most severe cases and had the highest mortality rate. However, the clinical signs and symptoms observed illustrated severe damages to vital systems, particularly the cardiovascular, neurological and pulmonary systems, although the signs associated with the latter were present only in cases admitted in grades 2 and 3 for the three age categories studied. Fluctuations in vital constants (temperature and peripheral oxygen saturation, blood pressure, heart rate and respiratory rate), biochemical parameters (ASAT, ALAT, urea and blood creatine, as well as blood sugar) and CBC results revealed major functional disturbances in vital organs, especially in envenomated cases admitted in grade 3. A positive correlation was mentioned between the state of evolution and the various epidemiological parameters, digestive symptoms, as well as signs and symptoms linked to hemodynamic state, general and neurological state. The main interest is to illustrate the seriousness of scorpion envenomations, especially in the high-risk population, for whom an improved therapeutic approach in health centers will undoubtedly be reinforced, and the admission of immunotherapy, as a fundamental part of the treatment, remains important.

BACKGROUND
Eighty one percent of adolescents do not meet the recommended physical activity (PA) guidelines with levels of physical activity declining steadily with age and more pronounced in girls of low socioeconomic position (SEP). Furthermore, early adolescence is a time when the rate of decline in PA is most severe amongst girls, placing them at an increased likelihood of developing negative health outcomes associated with physical inactivity. In response, the aim of this study was to explore low-SEP pre-teen girls' experiences of being physically active and to understand their perceptions of the individual, social and environmental factors that influence these experiences.
METHODS
Focus groups were conducted with 107 girls aged 10 - 12 years from four urban and three rural primary schools. Reflexive thematic analysis was used to analyse the data, with themes mapped to the relevant domains of the Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF).
RESULTS
Themes highlighted how skills and confidence underpin girls' self-identity for PA. Girls described how their social network (i.e., peers, family, coaches and teachers) shaped their experiences of being active. Girls recognised how being active was impacted by the challenges and opportunities in their local community (e.g., lack of facilities and anti-social behaviour).
CONCLUSION
This study provides insight into low-SEP pre-teen girls' experiences of being physically active in both rural and urban locations, while highlighting the complex interplay of individual, social and environmental factors. Additionally, the use of the TDF presents an in-depth behavioural diagnosis which can be used to inform future theory-based interventions to promote low-SEP pre-teen girls PA.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS
Endoscopy simulators are primarily designed to provide training in interventions performed during procedures. Peri-interventional tasks such as checking patient data, filling out forms for team time-out, patient monitoring, and performing sedation are often not covered. This study assesses the face, content, and construct validity of the ViGaTu (Virtual Gastro Tutor) immersive virtual reality (VR) simulator in teaching these skills.
METHODS
71 nurses and physicians were invited to take part in VR training. The participants experienced an immersive VR simulation of an endoscopy procedure, including setting up the endoscopic devices, checking sign-in and team time-out forms, placing monitoring devices, and performing sedation. The actions performed by the participants and their timing were continuously recorded. Face and content validity, as well as the System Usability Scale (SUS), were then assessed.
RESULTS
43 physicians and 28 nurses from 43 centers took a mean of 27.8 min (standard deviation ± 14.42 min) to complete the simulation. Seventy-five percent of the items for assessing face validity were rated as realistic, and 60% of items assessing content validity and usefulness of the simulation for different learning goals were rated as useful by the participants (four out of five on a Likert scale). The SUS score was 70, demonstrating a high degree of usability. With regard to construct validity, experienced endoscopy staff were significantly faster in setting up the endoscope tower and instruments than beginners.
CONCLUSIONS
This multicenter study presents a new type of interdisciplinary endoscopy training system featuring peri-interventional tasks and sedation in an immersive VR environment.

PURPOSE
The aim of this study was to examine radiology's and other specialties' market shares for diagnostic imaging interpretation for Medicare fee-for-service claims by modality, body region, and place of service.
METHODS
In this cross-sectional study of Physician/Supplier Procedure Summary data for 2022, the authors examined the proportion of diagnostic imaging interpretation by specialty. All claims for CT, MR, nuclear medicine (NM), ultrasound, and radiography and fluoroscopy (XR) were included. Claims were aggregated into 52 specialty groups using Medicare specialty codes. The market share for each specialty group was computed by modality, body region, and place of service.
RESULTS
For Medicare fee-for-service beneficiaries, there were 122,851,716 imaging studies, of which 88,559,272 (72.1%) were interpreted by radiologists. This percentage varied by modality: 97.3% for CT, 91.0% for MR, 76.6% for XR, 50.9% for NM, and 33.9% for ultrasound. Radiologists interpreted a lower percentage of cardiac (67.6% for CT, 42.2% for MR, 11.8% for NM, and 0.4% for ultrasound) than noncardiac studies (97.6% for CT, 91.4% for MR, 95.6% for NM, and 53.0% for ultrasound). Among noncardiac studies, radiologists interpreted nearly all in the outpatient hospital, inpatient, and emergency department (99.5% for CT, 99.4% for MR, 98.9% for NM, 79.3% for ultrasound, and 97.9% for XR) compared with the office setting (84.4% for CT, 78.7% for MR, 85.4% for NM, 29.2% for ultrasound, and 43.1% for XR).
CONCLUSIONS
Radiologists perform the dominant share of CT and MR interpretation and more so for noncardiac imaging and imaging performed in outpatient hospital, inpatient, and emergency department places of service.

Water related diseases are of great concern in developing countries like Bangladesh. Every year, many people die due to consumption of unsafe drinking water. In order to protect public health it is compulsory that the accessible drinking water should be maximum quality. In this descriptive observational study 150 samples of bottled water and 150 jar water samples were collected from different shops and restaurants. Each sample were filtered through a membrane filter and then placed on MacConkey agar media for total and fecal coliform count and 0.1 ml of water spread on nutrient agar media for heterotrophic plate count (HPC). Among 150 bottled water samples 11 (7.33%) were culture positive and 92 (61.33%) were culture positive in 150 jar water samples. Out of 150 jar water samples 38 (25.33%) were total coliform and among them 19 (12.67%) were fecal coliform. Among 300 water samples 55 (53.40%) samples showed HPC greater than 500 CFU/ml. A total of 9 bacterial isolates: Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter spp. CONS, Aeromonas spp., Enterobacter spp., Klebsiella spp. and Citrobacter were found.
