BACKGROUND
OCIAD2(Ovarian carcinoma immunoreactive antigen-like protein 2) is a protein reported in various cancers. However, the role of OCIAD2 has not been explored in pan-cancer datasets. The purpose of this research lies in analyzing the expression level and prognostic-related value of OCIAD2 in different human cancers, as well as revealing the underlying mechanism in specific cancer type (pancreatic adenocarcinoma, PAAD).
METHODS
The correlation between OCIAD2 expression level and clinical relevance in different human cancers was investigated from bioinformatical perspective (GTEx and TCGA). The OCIAD2 expression level and clinical significance in PAAD were explored in GEO datasets and tissue microarray. Functional experiments were used to determine the OCIAD2 cell functions in vitro and in vivo. GSEA, western blot and immunohistochemistry were used to uncover the potential mechanism.
RESULTS
OCIAD2 expression level was closely correlated with clinical relevance in many cancer types through pan-cancer analysis, and we found OCIAD2 was highly expressed in PAAD and associated with poorer prognosis. OCIAD2 acted as the promotor of Warburg effect and influenced PAAD cells proliferation, migration and apoptosis. Mechanistically, OCIAD2 upregulation may boost glycolysis in PAAD via activating the AKT signaling pathway in PAAD.
CONCLUSIONS
In PAAD, OCIAD2 promotes Warburg effect via AKT signaling pathway and targeting cancer cells metabolic reprogramming could be a potential treatment.

Glioblastoma (GBM) poses a formidable challenge in oncology due to its aggressive nature and dismal prognosis, with average survival rates around 15 months despite conventional treatments. This review proposes a novel therapeutic strategy for GBM by integrating microRNA (miRNA) therapy with 4-amino cyanine molecules possessing near-infrared (NIR) properties. miRNA holds promise in regulating gene expression, particularly in GBM, making it an attractive therapeutic target. 4-amino cyanine molecules, especially those with NIR properties, have shown efficacy in targeted tumor cell degradation. The combined approach addresses gene expression regulation and precise tumor cell degradation, offering a breakthrough in GBM treatment. Additionally, the review explores noncoding RNAs classification and characteristics, highlighting their role in GBM pathogenesis. Advanced technologies such as antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs), locked nucleic acids (LNAs), and peptide nucleic acids (PNAs) show potential in targeting noncoding RNAs therapeutically, paving the way for precision medicine in GBM. This synergistic combination presents an innovative approach with the potential to advance cancer therapy in the challenging landscape of GBM.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is the most prevalent mesenchymal tumor of the digestive tract. Its growth is primarily influenced by mutations in KIT or PDGFRA. Surgery is the primary treatment option for GIST; however, KIT inhibitors, such as imatinib, are used for inoperable cases. Resistance to imatinib is an upcoming challenge, especially because the effectiveness of alternative drugs is limited. Enhancement of the glycolysis pathway in cancer cells has been identified as a key feature in cancer. This unique metabolic activity has implications on tumor growth, prognosis, and resistance to therapy, even in GIST. Members of the glucose transporter (GLUT) family (particularly GLUT-1) play a significant role in GIST progression and response to treatment. Diagnostic imaging using 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography, which enables visualization of glucose metabolism, can aid in GIST diagnosis and risk assessment. The interplay between glycolysis and GIST can lead to the development of various therapeutic strategies, especially those involving glycolysis-related molecules, such as hexokinase and lactate dehydrogenase. However, further research is required to understand the full spectrum of glycolysis in GIST and its therapeutic potential. Herein, we present an exhaustive overview and analysis of the role of glycolysis in GIST, especially as a therapeutic target.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS
Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is the most common and aggressive cancer with a high incidence. N1-specific pseudouridine methyltransferase (EMG1), a highly conserved nucleolus protein, plays an important role in the biological development of ribosomes. However, the role of EMG1 in the progression of LUAD is still unclear.
METHODS
The expression of EMG1 in LUAD cells, and LUAD tissues, and adjacent noncancerous tissues was quantified using real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and western blotting. The roles of EMG1 in LUAD cell proliferation, migration, invasion and tumorigenicity were explored in vitro and in vivo. Western blot analysis to underlying molecular mechanism of EMG1 regulating the biological function of LUAD. EMG1 expression and its impact on tumor prognosis were analyzed using a range of databases including GEPIA, UALCAN, cBioPortal, LinkedOmics, and Kaplan-Meier Plotter.
RESULTS
EMG1 expression was elevated in LUAD patients compared to normal tissues, and EMG1 expression was strongly correlated with prognosis in LUAD patients. EMG1 expression correlated with age, gender, N stage, T stage, and pathologic stage. EMG1 expression was strongly positively correlated with MRPL51, PHB2, SNRPG, ATP5MD, and TPI1, and strongly negatively correlated with MACF1, DOCK9, RAPGEF2, SYNJ1, and KIDINS220, the major enrichment pathways for EMG1 and related genes include Cell cycle, DNA Replication and Pathways in cancer signaling pathways. EMG1 expression level was significantly increased in LUAD cell lines and tissues. Knockdown of EMG1 could inhibit LUAD cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and tumorigenicity. Besides, EMG1 overexpression could promote LUAD cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. High expression of EMG1 predicts poor prognosis in LUAD patients, and EMG1 may play an oncogenic role in the tumor microenvironment by participating in the infiltration of LUAD immune cells.
CONCLUSIONS
EMG1 regulated various functions in LUAD by directly mediating Akt/mTOR/p70s6k signaling pathways activation. The results suggest that EMG1 may be a novel biomarker for assessing prognosis and immune cell infiltration in LUAD.

Tumor derived Extracellular vesicles (EVs) in circulating system may contain tumor-specific markers, and EV detection in body fluids could become an important tool for early tumor diagnosis, prognosis assessment. Meningiomas are the most common benign intracranial tumors, few studies have revealed specific protein markers for meningiomas from patients' body fluids. In this study, using proximity labeling technology and non-tumor patient plasma as a control, we detected protein levels of EVs in plasma samples from meningioma patients before and after surgery. Through bioinformatics analysis, we discovered that the levels of EV count and protein count in meningioma patients were significantly higher than those in healthy controls, and were significantly decreased postoperatively. Among EV proteins in meningioma patients, the levels of MUC1, SIGLEC11, E-Cadherin, KIT, and TASCTD2 were found not only significantly elevated than those in healthy controls, but also significantly decreased after tumor resection. Moreover, using publicly available GEO databases, we verified that the mRNA level of MUC1, SIGLEC11, and CDH1 in meningiomas were significantly higher in comparison with normal dura mater tissues. Additionally, by analyzing human meningioma specimens collected in this study, we validated the protein levels of MUC1 and SIGLEC11 were significantly increased in WHO grade 2 meningiomas and were positively correlated with tumor proliferation levels. This study indicates that meningiomas secret EV proteins into circulating system, which may serve as specific markers for diagnosis, malignancy predicting and tumor recurrent assessment.

OBJECTIVE
To assess the prognostic importance of margin in resected buccal cancer within a framework of risk factor-driven postoperative adjuvant treatment.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Consecutive, treatment naïve patients undergoing primary surgical treatment for buccal cancer. Margin was defined as clear (≥5 mm), close (1-4 mm) and involved (<1 mm). Main outcome was association of margin with local recurrence free survival (LRFS). Subgroup analysis of close margin was performed according to receipt or no receipt of adjuvant treatment. A numerical margin cut-off in mm that could independently predict LRFS was sought to be identified.
RESULTS
Of the 167 patients included, the frequency of clear, close and involved margins was 50 (30 %), 78 (47 %) and 39 (23 %) respectively, among whom 52 %, 44 % and 98 % received postoperative adjuvant treatment respectively. Clear and close margins had similar 3-year LRFS (89 % and 96 % respectively), while involved margin had worse 3-year LRFS at 65 %. Involved margin was confirmed to be strongly and independently associated with worse LRFS. Within close margin, receipt and no receipt of adjuvant treatment had similar 3-year LRFS (92 % and 100 % respectively). A margin cut-off of 2 mm was identified at or above which LRFS approximated that of clear margin.
CONCLUSIONS
This single center cohort study of patients with resected buccal cancer suggests that close margin is distinct from and has a better LRFS than involved margin. A subset of close margin, with margin size ≥ 2 mm and no other adverse features, might be spared adjuvant treatment without compromising outcomes.

Immune checkpoints are essential regulators of immune responses, either by activating or suppressing them. Consequently, they are regarded as pivotal elements in the management of infections, cancer, and autoimmune disorders. In recent years, researchers have identified numerous soluble immune checkpoints that are produced through various mechanisms and demonstrated biological activity. These soluble immune checkpoints can be produced and distributed in the bloodstream and various tissues, with their roles in immune response dysregulation and autoimmunity extensively documented. This review aims to provide a thorough overview of the generation of various soluble immune checkpoints, such as sPD-1, sCTLA-4, sTim-3, s4-1BB, sBTLA, sLAG-3, sCD200, and the B7 family, and their importance as indicators for the diagnosis and prediction of autoimmune conditions. Furthermore, the review will investigate the potential pathological mechanisms of soluble immune checkpoints in autoimmune diseases, emphasizing their association with autoimmune diseases development, prognosis, and treatment.

BACKGROUND
Animal-related injuries are among the major causes of morbidity and mortality all over the world, especially in rural areas. This study aims to determine the characteristic features of animal-related injury cases presented to the emergency department and to evaluate their temporal trends and relationships with climatic factors.
METHODS
Among the animal-related injury cases, those who applied between January 1, 2017, and December 31, 2021, in a small seaside town in Turkey were included in the study. Application date, age, gender, ICD code, and prognosis constitute the variables from the hospital information management system within the relevant date range. Meteorological data were taken from Hatay Meteorological Directorate as average daily temperature ( °C) and humidity (g/m). Descriptive statistics are presented using mean, standard error, number, percentage, and ratio. Kruskal-Wallis, Pearson correlation analysis, linear trend analysis, chi-square, and t-test were used in the analyses. The statistical significance level was accepted as p < 0.05.
RESULTS
A total of 6634 animal-related injuries were included in the study. The average age of the injured was 26.1 ± 21.1 years and 60.3 % were male. Injuries were most frequently observed in the 0-9 age group (29.9 %). Of all the cases, around 0.1 % were hospitalized and there were no reported deaths. Injuries caused by mammalian species accounted for 85 % of the cases. The number of recorded cases was lowest in 2018 and highest in 2021. Over the five years, animal-related injuries showed an increase trend which was not statistically significant (R2 = 0.216, p= 0.430). The injury cases showed a marked seasonality; numbers tended to increase in March and reached the highest level between June and September. While a significant and positive relationship was observed between the daily average temperature and the number of cases (r = 0.428, p < 0.001), there was no correlation between the average relative humidity and the injury numbers (p = 0.537).
CONCLUSION
This study revealed that animal-related injuries were commonly seen in children and young middle-aged adult groups and during warmer seasons. Based on the results of the study, we suggest several strategies to reduce the public health impact of animal-induced injuries, such as region-specific intervention programs adapted to animal species and seasonal changes, educational campaigns targeting children during the warmer seasons, and improved data recording systems for the cases.
