PURPOSE
Paranoid ideation is common among adolescents, yet little is known about the precursors. Using a novel immersive virtual reality (VR) paradigm, we tested whether experiences of bullying, and other interpersonal/threatening events, are associated with paranoid ideation to a greater degree than other types of (i) non-interpersonal events or (ii) adverse childhood experiences.
METHODS
Self-reported exposure to adverse life events and bullying was collected on 481 adolescents, aged 11-15. We used mixed effects (multilevel) linear regression to estimate the magnitude of associations between risk factors and paranoid ideation, assessed by means of adolescents' reactions to ambiguously behaving avatars in a VR school canteen, adjusting for putative confounders (gender, year group, ethnicity, free school meal status, place of birth, family mental health problems).
RESULTS
Lifetime exposure to interpersonal/threatening events, but not non-interpersonal events or adverse circumstances, was associated with higher levels of state paranoid ideation, with further evidence that the effect was cumulative (1 type: ϐ 0.07, 95% CI -0.01-0.14; 2 types: ϐ 0.14, 95% CI 0.05-0.24; 3 + types: ϐ 0.24, 95% CI 0.12-0.36). More tentatively, for girls, but not boys, recent bullying was associated with heightened paranoid ideation with effect estimates ranging from ϐ 0.06 (95% CI -0.02-0.15) for physical bullying to ϐ 0.21 (95% CI 0.10-0.32) for cyber bullying.
CONCLUSIONS
Our data suggest a degree of specificity for adversities involving interpersonal threat or hostility, i.e. those that involve unwanted interference and/or attempted control of an individual's personal boundaries being associated with heightened levels of state paranoid ideation among adolescents.

Shepherding, the task of guiding a herd of autonomous individuals in a desired direction, is an essential skill employed in the herding of animals, crowd control, and evacuation operations. Integrating shepherding capabilities into robots holds promise to perform such tasks with increased efficiency and reduced labor costs. To date, robotic shepherds have only been designed to steer a herd towards a predetermined goal location without constraints on the trajectory. However, the tasks of a sheepdog encompass not only steering the herd but also (i) maintaining the herd within a designated area and (ii) averting dangers, obstacles, or undesirable terrain such as newly sown land. We present a decentralized control algorithm for multi-robot shepherding designed to guide a group of animals along a specified path delineated by two boundaries. The algorithm incorporates the additional objective of preserving the group within these boundaries. Simulation results reveal that, especially in sections of the path with sharp turns and a small distance between the boundaries, the group exhibits a tendency to deviate beyond the prescribed margin. Additionally, our findings emphasize the algorithm's sensitivity to the ratio of robot-group sizes and the magnitude of the group's velocity.

A novel interval valued p,q Rung orthopair fuzzy (IVPQ-ROF) multiple attribute group decision making (MAGDM) method for sustainable supplier selection (SSS) is proposed in this paper. This study mainly contains two research points: (1) tackling the interrelation between attributes; and (2) describing the psychological state and risk attitude of decision makers (DMs). For the first research point, we introduce the Archimedean operation rules for interval valued p,q Rung orthopair fuzzy sets (IVPQ-ROFSs), then the generalized interval valued p, q Rung orthopair fuzzy Maclaurin symmetric mean (GIVPQ-ROFMSM) operator and the generalized interval valued p, q Rung orthopair fuzzy weighted Maclaurin symmetric mean (GIVPQ-ROFWMSM) operator are defined to reflect the correlation between attributes. For the second research point, we introduce the positive ideal degree (PID) and negative ideal degree (NID) based on projection of IVPQ-ROFSs, and modified regret theory. Both of them consider the best alternative and worst alternative, so as to reflect the psychological state and risk attitude of DMs. Finally, a SSS problem is presented to manifest the effectiveness of the designed method. We also provide sensitivity analysis and comparative analysis to further demonstrate the rationality and validity of the proposed method.

BACKGROUND
Asthma is a prevalent health concern among Illinois children and management is significantly influenced by social determinants. Seventeen states have adopted stock inhaler laws, but implementation varies widely.
OBJECTIVE
To assess critical barriers to implementation and address sustainability of stock inhaler programming in school-based asthma care in IL.
METHODS
Semi-structured interviews were conducted with high asthma burden school districts in IL to assess barriers in implementing stock inhaler policies and resultant programming. Thematic analysis was performed, using Atlas.ti to identify and code "threats" to future sustainability. Data was synthesized and presented to stakeholders for barrier mitigation. A schematic flow chart outlining steps to support sustainability was created.
RESULTS
Eighteen interviews were conducted with key community partners across eight Illinois school districts, representing rural, urban, and suburban areas. Analysis revealed 25 barriers, with several identified as "threats" to future sustainability, including liability concerns, follow-up care assurance, funding/resources, pharmacy dispensing practices, district-level readiness to change, and nurse staffing. Stakeholders formed a statewide coalition to address these barriers, increase awareness, plan evaluations, and advise on state funding allocation. A national stock inhaler toolkit tailored to school administrative needs was developed to support sustainability efforts.
CONCLUSION
Strategic stakeholder and community engagement are vital for establishing and sustaining stock inhaler programs that adhere to policy mandates. Many districts face challenges initiating and maintaining such programs without critical barrier mitigation and support. Collaborative solutions are necessary to ensure effective school-based asthma management and mitigate persistent pediatric asthma health disparities.

OBJECTIVES
After autogenous arteriovenous (AV) access creation for end-stage renal disease, a majority of patients will continue on hemodialysis (HD), a minority will receive definitive treatment with kidney transplantation, and a subset of patients will convert to peritoneal dialysis (PD). Our goal was to identify patient factors associated with early transition from HD to either kidney transplantation or PD.
METHODS
This is a case-control study of all patients with first-time AV access creation in the Vascular Quality Initiative (2011-2022) who had long-term follow-up. Patients who remained on HD after AV access creation were the control group while patients who received early kidney transplant or who converted to PD were the two case groups. Relationship among demographics, comorbidities, neighborhood social disadvantage, and functional status as they relate to renal replacement therapy modality was assessed.
RESULTS
There were 19,782 patients included; the average age was 62±15 years and 57% were male. During the follow-up period of a median 306 (71-403) days, 1.3% underwent a kidney transplantation and 2.3% underwent conversion to PD. On univariable analysis, rates of kidney transplantation or conversion to PD varied with race (P<.001), insurance status (P<.001), Area Deprivation Index (ADI) quintile (P<.001), and several medical comorbidities. On multivariable analysis, impaired ambulation, current smoking, Medicaid or Medicare insurance, Black race, heart failure, body mass index, and older age were associated with decreased transplantation rates. Conversion to PD was associated with ADI Q5, Q4, and Q3. Decreased conversion to PD was associated with impaired ambulation, Hispanic ethnicity, Black race, former smoking, medication-controlled diabetes, and older age.
CONCLUSION
Decreased kidney transplantation was associated with Black race and non-commercial health insurance but not ADI quintile, suggesting disparities exist beyond community-level access to care. Early kidney transplantation conveyed a 3-year survival benefit compared to HD and PD, which had similar survival. Further work is required to increase access to kidney transplantation and PD.

BACKGROUND
The ongoing increase in the global mean temperature will increase around the globe, indicating that women and infants will have higher exposure to heat events leading to adverse outcomes. The study investigates the effect of non-optimal ambient temperature on the risk of preterm birth stratified by social position in Nepal.
METHOD
This is a space-time-stratified case-crossover design, based on hospital-registered perinatal data between 2017 and 2021 (n=47,807). A daily count of pregnant women residing in seven heat-prone districts was extracted together with their social status (ethnicity), obstetric complication and gestation of birth. The daily count of events was matched with the daily ambient temperature of their residence using the NASA spatial temperature recording. Ambient temperature exposure was analysed using conditional Poisson regression and distributed lag non-linear models.
FINDINGS
In the general population, with exposure to ambient temperature at the 75 centile (28 °C) the cumulative risk of preterm birth over 28 days was 1·29 times higher (RR, 1·29; 95% CI; 1·09, 1·54) than at median temperature (24.1 °C), and even higher among the socially disadvantaged population. Cumulative risk of preterm birth to cold ambient temperature at the 1 centile is high but not significant. Exposure to ambient temperature at the 90 centile (32·5 °C) has the highest cumulative risk of preterm birth for pregnant women from socially disadvantaged populations (RR 1·81; 95% CI; 1·28, 2·55). The delayed effect after exposure to temperatures above the 75 percentile seems to be more prolonged in the disadvantaged than the advantaged social group.
CONCLUSION
Although exposure to cold with certain effect on preterm births, heat (increase in ambient temperature) carries a risk of preterm birth in Nepal, and is more profound among socially disadvantaged populations.

OBJECTIVE
To use individual participant data meta-analysis (IPDMA) to estimate the minimal detectable change (MDC) of the Geriatric Depression Scale-15 (GDS-15) and to examine whether MDC may differ based on participant characteristics and study-level variables.
STUDY DESIGN AND SETTING
This was a secondary analysis of data from an IPDMA on the depression screening accuracy of the GDS. Datasets from studies published in any language were eligible for the present study if they included GDS-15 scores for participants aged 60 or older. MDC of the GDS-15 was estimated via random-effects meta-analysis using 2.77 (MDC95) and 1.41 (MDC67) standard errors of measurement (SEM). Subgroup analyses were used to evaluate differences in MDC by participant age and sex. Meta-regression was conducted to assess for differences based on study-level variables, including mean age, proportion male, proportion with major depression, and recruitment setting.
RESULTS
5,876 participants (mean age 76 years, 40% male, 11% with major depression) from 21 studies were included. The MDC95 was 3.81 points (95% confidence interval [CI] 3.59, 4.04), and MDC67 was 1.95 (95% CI 1.83, 2.03). The difference in MDC95 was 0.26 points (95% CI 0.04, 0.48) between ≥ 80-year-olds and < 80-year-olds; MDC95 was similar for females and males (0.05, 95% CI -0.12, 0.22). The MDC95 increased by 0.29 points (95% CI 0.17, 0.41) per 10% increase in proportion of participants with major depression; mean age had a small association (0.04 points, 95% CI 0.00 to 0.09) with MDC95, but sex and recruitment setting were not significantly associated.
CONCLUSIONS
The MDC95 was 3.81 points and MDC67 was 1.95 points. MDC95 increased with the proportion of participants with major depression. Results can be used to evaluate individual changes in depression symptoms and as a threshold for assessing minimal clinical important difference estimates.

INTRODUCTION
Zero alcohol products (ZAPs) could reduce alcohol-related harms by acting as a substitute for alcoholic beverages. However, concerns have been raised regarding the potential for these products to expose young people to additional alcohol-related stimuli, further normalising alcohol use and acting as a gateway to underage alcohol consumption. Scarce research has examined whether these concerns are warranted.
METHOD
This project comprised two parts involving Australian adolescents aged 15-17 years. Part 1 was a series of 5 online focus groups (n=44) that provided initial insights into perceptions of and experiences with ZAPs. Part 2 was a national online survey (n=679) that assessed the generalisability of the focus group findings and identified factors associated with ZAP-related attitudinal and behavioural outcomes.
RESULTS
ZAPs were found to be salient and attractive to Australian adolescents. Over a third of surveyed adolescents (37%) had tried ZAPs. The focus group participants and survey respondents generally perceived ZAPs in a positive light, seeing them as a useful alternative to alcohol for both adolescents and adults who want to circumvent social expectations to use alcohol. Some of the study participants acknowledged the potential for ZAPs to serve as a gateway to alcohol use and recommended reducing their visibility and accessibility.
CONCLUSION
ZAPs are likely exposing minors to additional alcohol-related stimuli potentially increasing their risk of underage alcohol consumption. Regulatory responses to ZAPS need to protect young people from the potential adverse consequences of ZAPs exposure while enabling the products to be used by adults as an alcohol substitute.

BACKGROUND
The roles of IL-10, IL-11, COX-2, BCL6, ZEB1, and ZEB2 genes in the potential correlation between polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), inflammation, and cancer remain controversial.
AIMS
This study aimed to compare serum levels of IL-10 and IL-11 and gene expression of IL-10, IL-11, COX-2, BCL6, ZEB1, and ZEB2 in PBMCs of women with PCOS and healthy controls.
METHODS
A case-control study included 40 women with PCOS as the case group and 40 healthy women as controls. Group matching for age and BMI was performed. Serum levels of IL-10 and IL-11 were assessed using ELISA, while gene expression was measured using real-time PCR. Parameters were compared between groups, and correlations among gene expression and serum levels were explored.
RESULTS
In comparison to healthy women, women with PCOS exhibited a significant decrease in the expression of COX-2 and IL-10 genes (p<0.001), alongside a significant increase in ZEB2 gene expression (p<0.001). There were no significant differences observed in the expression of IL-11, BCL6, and ZEB1 genes. Furthermore, the serum level of IL-10 was significantly lower in women with PCOS compared to the control group (p<0.001), while no significant difference was found in IL-11 levels. Additionally, no significant correlations were identified between gene expression and serum levels.
CONCLUSION
In women with PCOS, reduced IL-10 gene expression may indicate inflammation and serve as a diagnostic biomarker. However, conflicting findings on COX-2 expression complicate understanding. Elevated ZEB2 expression in PCOS women may lead to infertility, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, and aggressive phenotypes.

Social media use among young people has raised concerns about its potential impact on mental health. However, research is limited regarding whether certain subgroups may be differently affected. This study uses data from the 2022 National Youth Tobacco Survey, a nationally representative sample of middle and high school students aged approximately 11-18 years (n = 23,366). Mental health conditions were assessed using the Patient Health Questionnaire-4, and social media use was categorized by frequency levels. We employed multinomial logistic regression and a finite mixture Poisson model to explore the relationship between social media use, sexual identity, and mental health status. The study found a consistent association between social media use and mental health conditions, particularly among frequent users. The finite mixture model revealed two latent groups based on mental health status: a 'better' group with minimal or no poor mental health indicators and a 'worse' group with more indicators. For both groups, social media use was associated with mental health conditions, with a stronger association among frequent users. Notably, sexual minorities, especially bisexual students, were more likely to report poor mental health indicators. This study suggests that frequent social media use may adversely affect young people's mental health and that different youth subgroups may respond differently to social media use and mental health conditions.
