Meta-Analysis
Several studies have reported the efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC), while some ophthalmologists are concerned that TCM may be a risk factor for CSC as some chinese herbs contain hormonal ingredients. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of TCM in treating patients with CSC. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and observational studies of TCM for CSC were searched up to July 10, 2023 on the following biological databases without language and publication time restrictions: PubMed, Ovid Medline, Embase, Cochrane Library, The Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure Database (CNKI), Technology Periodical Database (VIP), Wanfang, and Chinese Biomedical Literature Service System (SinoMed). Review Manager V.5.4.1 and Stata 14 software were used for data analysis. Finally, thirty-eight studies were finally included including 23 RCTs and 15 cohort studies. The meta-analysis showed that compared with the routine treatment alone, the combination of TCM can not only reduce the recurrence rate (OR = 0.29, 95% CI: 0.21,0.40; I2 = 0%) and central retinal thickness (CRT) (MD = - 35.63, 95% CI: - 45.96,-25.30; I2 = 89%) of CSC, but improve patients' best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) (SMD = 0.86, 95% CI: 0.62,1.11; I2 = 77%); additionally, it has no obvious side effects compared with routine treatment (OR = 0.72, 95% CI: 0.39,1.34; I2 = 10%). Overall, this study shows that the use of TCM does not increase the risk of CSC recurrence; on the contrary, the combination of TCM may reduce the recurrence of CSC and improve BCVA and CRT in patients with CSC compared with conventional treatment.

UNLABELLED
Several studies have evaluated the parameters of normality of the sella turcica (ST), which is important to face different craniofacial syndromes that may affect this structure. Therefore, this research summarized the scientific evidence on the role of ST in the sex estimation of non-syndromic individuals. The research protocol was registered (Prospective International Registry of Systematic Reviews # CRD42021256469), followed by an electronic search in six databases (PubMed, LILACS, Web of Science, Scopus, EMBASE, and LIVIVO) and gray literature (Google Scholar and OpenGrey). Meta-analysis of linear (width, length, height, and diameter) and volumetric measurements, in addition to an assessment of risk of bias (RoB) and certainty of evidence, were performed. After the screening of 986 articles, 13 were evaluated by meta-analysis (1 307 males and 1 231 females). In subgroup analysis, females had lower values for width (lateral radiograph; -0.67 mm; = 0.040), length (computed tomography; -0.23 mm; = 0.020), and diameter (computed tomography; -0.27 mm; < 0.001) compared to males. There was no statistically significant difference regarding height ( = 0.95), area ( = 0.72), and volume ( = 0.21). Most studies exhibited moderate RoB, and the certainty of evidence of the outcomes was very low. In this review, significant differences were observed between the sexes for the length and diameter of the ST; however, the heterogeneity of the studies must be considered.
KEY POINTS
Studies from different geographic regions evaluated the morphology of ST according to sex and showed this anatomical structure as an important indicator of dimorphism.Meta-analysis showed shorter ST length and diameter in women.Subgroup analysis found lower ST width in women based on lateral skull radiographs.Subgroup analysis found smaller lengths and diameters in women based on CT scans.

BACKGROUND
Although exclusive breastfeeding is recommended for the first six months of life, research suggests that breastfeeding initiation rates and duration among Indigenous communities differ from this recommendation. Qualitative studies point to a variety of factors influencing infant feeding decisions; however, there has been no collective review of this literature published to date. Therefore, the objective of this scoping review was to identify and summarize the qualitative literature regarding Indigenous infant feeding experiences within Canada, the United States, Australia, and Aotearoa.
METHODS
Using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses- Scoping Reviews and the Joanna Briggs Institute Guidelines, in October 2020, Medline, Embase, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and Scopus were searched for relevant papers focusing on Indigenous infant feeding experiences. Screening and full-text review was completed by two independent reviewers. A grey literature search was also conducted using country-specific Google searches and targeted website searching. The protocol is registered with the Open Science Framework and published in BMJ Open.
RESULTS
Forty-six papers from the five databases and grey literature searches were included in the final review and extraction. There were 18 papers from Canada, 11 papers in the US, 9 studies in Australia and 8 studies conducted in Aotearoa. We identified the following themes describing infant feeding experiences through qualitative analysis: colonization, culture and traditionality, social perceptions, family, professional influences, environment, cultural safety, survivance, establishing breastfeeding, autonomy, infant feeding knowledge, and milk substitutes, with family and culture having the most influence on infant feeding experiences based on frequency of themes.
CONCLUSIONS
This review highlights key influencers of Indigenous caregivers' infant feeding experiences, which are often situated within complex social and environmental contexts with the role of family and culture as essential in supporting caregivers. There is a need for long-term follow-up studies that partner with communities to support sustainable policy and program changes that support infant and maternal health.

Meta-Analysis Review
The objective of this were conducted to elucidate spatiotemporal variations in malaria epidemiology in Gabon since 1980. For that, five databases, were used to collect and identify all studies published between 1980 and 2023 on malaria prevalence, antimalarial drug resistance, markers of antimalarial drug resistance and insecticide resistance marker. The findings suggest that Gabon continues to face malaria as an urgent public health problem, with persistently high prevalence rates. Markers of resistance to CQ persist despite its withdrawal, and markers of resistance to SP have emerged with a high frequency, reaching 100 %, while ACTs remain effective. Also, recent studies have identified markers of resistance to the insecticides Kdr-w and Kdr-e at frequencies ranging from 25 % to 100 %. Ace1R mutation was reported with a frequency of 0.4 %. In conclusion, the efficacy of ACTs remains above the threshold recommended by the WHO. Organo-phosphates and carbamates could provide an alternative for vector control.

Review
Menopause in a globalized world - A systematic literature review focussing on the challenge of health problems associated with menopausal transition among women with a migration background.
Globalization and international migration movements have massively changed the population structure of most industrial nations in recent decades. The ever-increasing proportion of people with a migration background also poses a challenge for the medical sector. A particular problem is the stressful phase of the menopausal transition, which - although not a pathological phenomenon but part of the female life history - can lead to psychological and physical symptoms due to hormonal changes, which significantly impair the quality of life of the women affected. However, treatment concepts, as well as access to medical facilities and information, are geared towards Western women from high-income countries. Women with a history of voluntary or forced migration originating from non-Western countries represent a particularly vulnerable group. To enable personalized treatment, studies on menopausal transition in women with a migration background are required. The present review shows that studies on menopausal women with a migration background have been conducted primarily in classic immigration countries such as the USA, Australia, or the UK, but that there is a lack of such studies in countries with no long tradition as an immigration country, such as Austria or Germany. This is becoming a growing problem, as the number of menopausal women with a migration background is increasing.

Review
The potential anti-cancer effect of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) monomers has been widely studied due to their advantages of well-defined structure, clear therapeutic effects, and easy quality control during the manufacturing process. However, clinical trial information on these monomers is scarce, resulting in a lack of knowledge regarding the research progress, efficacy, and adverse reactions at the clinical stage. Therefore, this study systematically reviewed the clinical trials on the anti-cancer effect of TCM monomers registered in the Clinicaltrials.gov website before 2023.4.30, paying special attention to the trials on tumors, aiming to explore the research results and development prospects in this field. A total of 1982 trials were started using 69 of the 131 TCM monomers. The number of clinical trials performed each year showed an overall upward trend. However, only 26 monomers entered into 519 interventional anti-tumor trials, with vinblastine (194, 37.38%) and camptothecin (146, 28.13%) being the most used. A total of 45 tumors were studied in these 519 trials, with lymphoma (112, 21.58%) being the most frequently studied. Clinical trials are also unevenly distributed across locations and sponsors/collaborators. The location and the sponsor/collaborator with the highest number of performed trials were the United States (651,32.85%) and NIH (77). Therefore, China and its institutions still have large room for progress in promoting TCM monomers in anti-tumor clinical trials. In the next step, priority should be given to the improvement of the research and development ability of domestic enterprises, universities and other institutions, using modern scientific and technological means to solve the problems of poor water solubility and strong toxic and side effects of monomers, so as to promote the clinical research of TCM monomers.

Review
Forensic anthropology and forensic medicine both have been fascinating fields that deal with mandibular characteristics and sex determination. Researchers may determine an individual's biological sex with amazing precision by examining the size, shape, and proportions of the mandible. This information is useful for anthropological studies and criminal investigations. This systematic review aims to evaluate the consistency and validity of using mandibles as a method for gender determination across different populations. A systematic search was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus databases. Further, a manual search was carried out to find additional studies. Mandibular parameters and other relevant data about research were extracted from the included studies. Random effects meta-analysis was carried out for four parameters. A total of nine studies were included in the systematic review out of 76 initial search results. All studies were in vitro. Nine studies were included in the qualitative analysis, whereas only seven studies were included in the meta-analysis. A total of 2385 individuals (1193 male and 1192 female) were evaluated in the included studies. The parameters assessed were as follows: minimum ramus breadth (MiRB), maximum ramus breadth (MaRB), projective ramus height (PRH), bigonial width (BGW), gonial angle (GA), and antegonial angle (AGA). Meta-analysis was conducted for four parameters out of six. For the two parameters, meta-analysis was not conducted as only one study was evaluated. Meta-analyses of PRH obtained a high degree of heterogeneity (99%), mean difference (MD) of 4.06 mm, and p-value of p=0.09. Meta-analysis of BGW obtained 93% heterogeneity, MD of 9.03 mm, and p=0.0007. Meta-analysis of GA showed 99% heterogeneity, MD of 3.44 mm, and p=0.66. Meta-analysis of AGA obtained a low heterogeneity of 30%, MD of -0.77 mm, and p=0.23. The parameter, BGW, can be considered a useful tool in identifying sex. The parameters, PRH, GA, and AGA, cannot be preferred as a reliable tool in identifying the sex of an individual in forensic contexts.

Efficacy and Safety of Compound Kushen Injection for Advanced Colorectal Cancer: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Clinical Trials with Trial Sequential Analysis.
BACKGROUNDS
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the common malignant tumors, with a gradually increasing incidence. Due to late detection and poor sensitivity to chemotherapy, it has become a difficult problem in tumor prevention and treatment at present. Exploring or discovering new combinations is a significant strategy for the treatment of CRC. Compound kushen injection (CKI) is a traditional Chinese medicine injection extracted from Ait. and Roxb., which is widely used in the comprehensive treatment of CRC in China. This systematic review is aimed to ascertain the clinical efficacy and safety of CKI combined with chemotherapy in the treatment of advanced CRC based on available data. On this basis, the specific application of CKI in combination with chemotherapy in clinical practice is further discussed.
METHODS
PubMed, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, EMBASE, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Scientific Journals Database, Wanfang Database, Chinese Biomedicine Database Searches, the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry, and ClinicalTrials.gov were searched systematically, from inception to April 20, 2024. We adopted the ROB2 tool to assess quality of the included trials, Stata 16 for data analysis, and evaluated the publication bias with the funnel plot and Egger's test. The quality of the evidence was justified according to GRADE. We also used trial sequential analysis (TSA) to calculate the final required sample size in this meta-analysis and to verify whether the results present a reliable conclusion. The protocol for this systematic review was registered on PROSPERO (CRD42022380106) and has been published.
RESULTS
Sixteen trials that examined 1378 patients were included in this study. Meta-analysis revealed that compared with chemotherapy, objective response rate (ORR, RR = 1.30, 95% CI: 1.18-1.44), disease control rate (DCR, RR = 1.08, 95% CI: 1.03-1.13), and KPS score improvement rate were improved (RR = 1.18, 95% CI: 1.07-1.31) by the combination of CKI and chemotherapy in patients with advanced CRC. Additionally, CKI combined with chemotherapy was associated with lower adverse reactions such as leukopenia (RR = 0.74, 95% CI: 0.62-0.87), thrombocytopenia (RR = 0.68, 95% CI: 0.49-0.94), gastrointestinal reactions (RR = 0.72, 95% CI: 0.55-0.94), and liver damage (RR = 0.48, 95% CI: 0.30-0.79), higher CD4 ratio (MD = 9.70, 95% CI:8.73-10.68) and CD4/CD8 ratio (MD = 0.25, 95% CI: 0.22-0.28), and lower CD8 T cell ratio (MD = -5.25, 95% CI: -5.94 to -4.56). Subgroup analysis demonstrated that ORR and DCR in patients with advanced CRC were improved when CKI combined with FOLFOX and 5Fu + L-OHP. Both 15 and 20 ml/day of CKI combined with FOLFOX provided a significant effect in ORR. Moreover, ORR was improved when the accumulated CKI dose reached 280 ml per course and 420 ml in total. 7 days/course as well as 14 days/course of CKI combined with FOLFOX were effective durations in ORR. As for DCR, 7 days/course of CKI combined with FOLFOX could improve efficacy. Furthermore, CKI + FOLFOX may be useful in ORR and DCR for at least 4 cycles of combination therapies. The TSA showed that firm results in ORR and DCR were established and additional trials were unlikely to change the results.
CONCLUSION
CKI combined with chemotherapy provides a statistically significant and clinically important effect in the improvement of ORR, DCR, performance status, ADR reduction, and immune function in patients with CRC. However, more rigorously designed, large-scale, and multi-center RCTs are needed in the future.

BACKGROUND
The provision of diversity-sensitive care is a promising approach towards reducing health disparities. Recent criticism and a scientific gap demonstrate the need for the patient perspective on diversity-sensitive care. This systematic review aims to describe the patient perspective, including patient experiences, expectations, and satisfaction with diversity-sensitive care provided by healthcare providers.
METHODS
In December 2022 the Medline ALL, Embase, Web of Science Core Collection, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, CINAHL, PsycINFO and additionally Google Scholar were searched for original studies that described or measured patient expectations, experiences, and/or satisfaction, specifically focusing on cultural or diversity competence of healthcare providers. Analysis of the collected data was performed using a convergent mixed-methods design based on thematic synthesis.
RESULTS
From initially 5,387 articles, 117 were selected for full-text screening, and ultimately, 34 articles were included in this study. The concept of diversity-sensitive care was observed to comprise three components. The first component is focused on patient-centered care and includes competencies such as clear and direct communication, shared decision-making, individualized care, empathy, and consideration. The second component centers on providing culturally tailored information, adjusting care to cultural needs, working with interpreters, allyship, community partnerships, self-awareness, and cultural knowledge, and builds upon the first component. Across the first two components of diversity-sensitive care, patients have reported experiencing dissatisfaction and encountering shortcomings in their healthcare providers, sometimes resulting in the third and final component pertaining to provider care. This component underscores the importance of linguistic, ethnic, cultural, and gender concordance in delivering quality care.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, the patient perspective on diversity-sensitive care encompasses multiple components, from patient-centered care to concordant care. The components incorporate various competencies as communication skills, empathy, self-awareness and adjusting care to cultural needs. Patients reported experiencing dissatisfaction and shortcomings across all components of diversity-sensitive care provided by healthcare providers.

Review
BACKGROUND
Respiratory diseases pose a grave threat to human life. Therefore, understanding their pathogenesis and therapeutic strategy is important. Ferroptosis is a novel type of iron-dependent programmed cell death, distinct from apoptosis, necroptosis, and autophagy, characterised by iron, reactive oxygen species, and lipid peroxide accumulation, as well as glutathione (GSH) depletion and GSH peroxidase 4 (GPX4) inactivation. A close association between ferroptosis and the onset and progression of respiratory diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, acute lung injury, bronchial asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, and lung cancer, has been reported. Recent studies have shown that traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) compounds exhibit unique advantages in the treatment of respiratory diseases owing to their natural properties and potential efficacy. These compounds can effectively regulate ferroptosis by modulating several key signalling pathways such as system Xc -GSH-GPX4, NCOA4-mediated ferritinophagy, Nrf2-GPX4, and Nrf2/HO-1, thus playing a positive role in improving respiratory diseases.
PURPOSE
This comprehensive review systematically outlines the regulatory role of ferroptosis in the onset and progression of respiratory diseases and provides evidence for treating respiratory diseases by targeting ferroptosis with TCM compounds. These insights aim to offer potential remedies for the clinical prevention and treatment of respiratory diseases.
STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS
We searched scientific databases PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and CNKI using keywords such as "ferroptosis","respiratory diseases","chronic obstructive pulmonary disease","bronchial asthma","acute lung injury","pulmonary fibrosis","lung cancer","traditional Chinese medicine","traditional Chinese medicine compound","monomer", and "natural product" to retrieve studies on the therapeutic potential of TCM compounds in ameliorating respiratory diseases by targeting ferroptosis. The retrieved data followed PRISMA criteria (preferred reporting items for systematic review).
RESULTS
TCM compounds possess unique advantages in treating respiratory diseases, stemming from their natural origins and proven clinical effectiveness. TCM compounds can exert therapeutic effects on respiratory diseases by regulating ferroptosis, which mainly involves modulation of pathways such as system Xc -GSH-GPX4,NCOA4-mediated ferritinophagy, Nrf2-GPX4, and Nrf2/HO-1.
CONCLUSION
TCM compounds have demonstrated promising potential in improving respiratory diseases through the regulation of ferroptosis. The identification of specific TCM-related inducers and inhibitors of ferroptosis holds great significance in developing more effective strategies. However, current research remains confined to animal and cellular studies, emphasizing the imperative for further verifications through high-quality clinical data.
