OBJECTIVE
Magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) is a novel noninvasive interventional technique for osteoid osteoma (OO). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of MRgFUS in the treatment of OO through a systematic review and meta-analysis of pain scores and post-treatment adverse events before and after MRgFUS treatment.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
A comprehensive literature search of PubMed, Embase, Web of science, and Cochrane Library databases was conducted to screen the study literature based on inclusion and exclusion criteria to extract and analyze pre- and post-treatment pain score data, success rates (complete pain relief with no recurrence until the last follow-up), recurrence rates, secondary intervention rates, and complications to evaluate the efficacy and/or safety of MRgFUS for OO.
RESULTS
A total of 113 studies published between 2012 and 2022were collected, resulting in a total sample size of 353 patients. The majority of the studies were prospective and had a follow-up period of 4 weeks or more, and overall, the quality of evidence ranged from low to high. Pain scores at 1 week and 1 month after the merger were 0.62 (9.5% CI:0.28-0.96) and 0.37 (9.5% CI:0.07-0.68), respectively. The success rate of the combination was 92.8% (95% CI: 89.8%-95.7%), the incidence of minor complications (thermal injury at the ablation site) was 0.85%, and no major complications were recorded in any of the included literature.
CONCLUSION
MRgFUS is an effective procedure that is able to treat pain for patients with OO with satisfying efficacy and safety.

Transpetrosal approaches are known to be associated with a significant risk of complications, including CSF leak, facial palsy, hearing impairment, venous injury, and/or temporal lobe injury. We aimed to evaluate the morbidity of the standard combined petrosal approach (CPA), defined as a combination of the posterior (retrolabyrinthine) and the anterior petrosal approach. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of articles reporting on clinical series of patients operated on for petroclival meningiomas through CPA. Studies that used the terminology "combined petrosal approach" without matching the aforementioned definition were excluded as well as clinical series that included less than 5 patients. A total of 8 studies were included involving 160 patients. The pooled complication rates were 3% (95% CI, 0.5-5.6) for CSF leak, 8.6% (95% CI, 4.1-13.2%) for facial palsy, 8.2% (95% CI, 3.9-12.6%) for hearing impairment, 2.8% (95% CI, 0.9-6.5%) for venous complications, and finally 4.8% (95%, 1.2-8.4%) for temporal lobe injury. Contrary to the general belief, CPA is associated with an acceptable rate of complications, especially when compared to alternative approaches to the petroclival area. In view of the major advantages like shorter trajectory, multiple angles of surgical attack, and early tumor devascularization, CPA remains an important tool in the armamentarium of the skull base surgeon.

BACKGROUND
Bone metastases (BM) are uncommon in endometrial carcinoma (EC), without information on the optimal oncologic management of patients with BM in EC. Here, we systematically review clinical characteristics, treatment approaches and prognosis in patients with BM in EC.
METHODS
We conducted a systematic literature search until 27th March 2022 on PubMed, MEDLINE, Embase and clinicaltrials.gov. Outcomes included treatment frequency and survival after BM with comparators being treatment approaches (local cytoreductive bone surgery, systemic therapy, and local radiotherapy). Risk of bias was assessed using the NIH Quality Assessment Tool and Navigation Guide methodology.
RESULTS
We retrieved 1096 records of which 112 retrospective studies (12 cohort studies, 12/12 fair quality; 100 case studies, 100/100 low quality) with a total of 1566 patients were included. The majority had a primary diagnosis of FIGO stage IV, grade 3 endometrioid EC. Singular BM were present in a median of 39.2%, multiple BM in 60.8% and synchronous additional distant metastases in 48.1% of patients respectively. In patients with secondary BM median time to bone recurrence was 14 months. Median survival after BM was 12 months. Local cytoreductive bone surgery was assessed in 7/13 cohorts and performed in a median of 15.8% (interquartile range [IQR] 10.3-43.0) of patients. Chemotherapy was assessed in 11/13 cohorts and administered in a median of 55.5% (IQR 41.0-63.9), hormonal therapy (7/13 cohorts) in 24.7% (IQR 16.3-36.0), and osteooncologic therapy (4/13 cohorts) in 2.7% (IQR 0.0-7.5) of patients respectively. Local radiotherapy was assessed in 9/13 cohorts and performed in a median of 66.7% (IQR 55.6-70.0) of patients. Survival benefits were seen in 2/3 cohorts after local cytoreductive bone surgery, and in 2/7 cohorts after chemotherapy without survival benefits in the remaining cohorts and investigated therapies. Limitations include the lack of controlled intervention studies, the heterogeneity and retrospective nature of the investigated populations.
CONCLUSIONS
This systematic review shows heterogenous therapeutic approaches in clinical practice without clear evidence for optimal oncologic management for patients with BM in EC.

Chinese medicinal herbs for reducing endocrine therapy-induced side effects in patients with hormone receptor-positive breast cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
CONTEXT
Chinese medicinal herbs (CMH) have been considered a potentially efficacious approach for patients with breast cancer that experience adverse effects from endocrine treatment.
OBJECTIVE
To investigate the impact of CMH on endocrine therapy-induced side effects in patients with hormone receptor-positive (HR+) breast cancer.
METHODS
Ten databases (e.g., PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Information Database and other databases) were searched up to 20 May 2022. The search terms included Chinese herb, breast cancer, endocrine therapy, clinical trial and their mesh terms. The study selection and data extraction were performed by two independent reviewers. The risk of bias was evaluated using the Cochrane risk of bias method.
RESULTS
A total of 31 studies with 2288 patients were included. There were significant improvements in bone mineral density (BMD) [lumbar BMD ( 0.08, 95% CI 0.07 to 0.09, < 0.00001) and femoral neck BMD ( 0.08, 95% CI 0.07 to 0.10, < 0.00001)] and bone gal protein (BGP) ( 0.24, 95% CI 0.17 to 0.31, < 0.00001), with a significant reduction in triglycerides (MD -0.53, 95% CI -1.00 to -0.07, < 0.05) and no effect on estradiol levels (MD 0.90, 95% CI -0.31 to 2.12, = 0.15).
CONCLUSIONS
CMH combined with complementary therapy can moderately reduce endocrine therapy-induced side effects, including bone loss and dyslipidemia in patients with HR + breast cancer, revealing the potential role of CMH in treating (HR+) breast cancer. More high-quality RCTs are warranted to further validate the effectiveness and safety of CMH.

INTRODUCTION
Osteoid osteoma (OO) is a common benign bone tumor. OO is observed most frequently in the long bones, especially in the tibia and femur. When occurring in the bones of the hand, OO can be a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. The aim of this study was to provide a systematic review of occurrence, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment options regarding OO in hand bones.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
We performed a systematic review of the literature. All studies from the online databases PubMed and SpringerLink, which reported cases of osteoid osteomas in the bones of the hand, were included. By summarizing the literature, we evaluated the localization within the hand as well as diagnostic and therapeutic options.
RESULTS
We included 133 studies reporting 401 cases. OO was mostly common in the phalanges. The diagnosis was mostly made by CT (computed tomography) scan. Most of the OO were treated surgically by open curettage or en bloc resection.
CONCLUSIONS
Osteoid osteomas in the bones of the hand are rare and a delayed diagnosis is common. In cases of pain combined with particular symptoms such as nail hypertrophy and swelling OO should be considered. Of the most used imaging methods, CT scans have the highest sensitivity.

BACKGROUND
Three-dimensional (3D) printing is now a widely recognized surgical tool in oral and maxillofacial surgery. However, little is known about its benefits for the surgical management of benign maxillary and mandibular tumors and cysts.
PURPOSE
The objective of this systematic review was to assess the contribution of 3D printing in the management of benign jaw lesions.
METHODS
A systematic review, registered in PROSPERO, was conducted using PubMed and Scopus databases, up to December 2022, by following PRISMA guidelines. Studies reporting 3D printing applications for the surgical management of benign jaw lesions were considered.
RESULTS
This review included thirteen studies involving 74 patients. The principal use of 3D printing was to produce anatomical models, intraoperative surgical guides, or both, allowing for the successful removal of maxillary and mandibular lesions. The greatest reported benefits of printed models were the visualization of the lesion and its anatomical relationships to anticipate intraoperative risks. Surgical guides were designed as drilling locating guides or osteotomy cutting guides and contributed to decreasing operating time and improving the accuracy of the surgery.
CONCLUSION
Using 3D printing technologies to manage benign jaw lesions results in less invasive procedures by facilitating precise osteotomies, reducing operating times, and complications. More studies with higher levels of evidence are needed to confirm our results.
