PURPOSE
To identify the accelerometer-measured daily behaviors that mediate the association of refractive status with depressive disorders and enhance the understanding of behavioral differences in depression.
METHODS
Participants with baseline mean spherical equivalent (MSE) and 7-day accelerometer measurements from the UK Biobank were included in this cohort study. Refractive status was categorized as hyperopia and non-hyperopia. Four daily behaviors, including moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity (MVPA), light physical activity (LPA), sedentary, and sleep were recorded between 2013 and 2015. We also assessed 24-hour behavior patterns. Depression cases were defined through both questionnaires and hospital records over 10 years of follow-up.
RESULTS
Among 20,607 individuals, every 0.5-diopter increase in MSE was associated with a 6% higher risk of depressive disorders, with hyperopia participants at a higher risk than non-hyperopia participants (odds ratio, 1.14; 95% confidence interval, 1.05-1.23; P = 0.001). MVPA and sleep time significantly correlated with depressive disorders, with odds ratios of 0.79 and 1.14 (P < 0.05). MSE showed significant correlations with all four behaviors. The effects of MVPA and sleep duration on MSE and depressive disorders varied throughout the day. Mediation analyses showed that MVPA and sleep partially mediated the relationship between MSE and depressive disorders, with 35.2% of the association between moderate to high hyperopia and depression mediated by MVPA.
CONCLUSIONS
Physical activity and sleep significantly mediate the relationship between MSE and depressive disorders.
TRANSLATIONAL RELEVANCE
The mediation effect of MVPA highlights its therapeutic potential in reducing the risk of depression among individuals with moderate to severe hyperopia. Interventions aimed at increasing daytime MVPA and decreasing daytime sleep could enhance mental health in this vulnerable group.

This study aimed to examine the impact of playing position (PP), match location (ML), and opposition standard (OS) on team and individual acceleration (ACC) and deceleration (DEC) efforts. Fifty professional football players were monitored across 24 English Premier Development League matches during the 2020/21 season. High-intensity ACC and DEC thresholds were set at > +3 m · s and < -3 m · s, respectively. Players were divided into five PPs: centre backs (CB; n = 68), full-backs (FB; n = 24), centre midfielders (CM; n = 54), wide midfielders (WM; n = 15), centre forwards (CF; n = 27). Opposition standard was categorised as Top (1-4), Middle (5-9), and Bottom (9-13) based on final league ranking of the study season. Each match location was classified as Home or Away. One way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and a multivariate ANOVA analysed the independent effect of PP, ML and OS on ACC and DEC efforts, and the interaction of all contextual factors, respectively. Acceleration efforts were affected by PP and ML. FB performed 22% more ACC than WM. All players performed 6% more ACC actions during home matches compared to away fixtures. DEC efforts were only affected by PP, with FB and CM executing 26% and 32% greater DEC efforts than CB, respectively. When playing against top or middle teams at home, CB, CM, and CF tended to perform more high-intensity actions than when playing away. In contrast, when playing against top teams at home, FB and WM performed fewer high-intensity actions than when playing away. Playing position and ML affected ACC and DEC actions but not OS.

INTRODUCTION
There is limited information about the relationship between physical activity (PA) and sedentary behaviors in chronic kidney disease (CKD). Therefore, this study aims to explore the associations of accelerometer-measured PA and sedentary behaviors with CKD.
METHODS
A cross-sectional study was conducted using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey in the 2003-2004 and 2005-2006 survey cycles. A uniaxial accelerometer measured physical activity (PA) and sedentary time (ST). The associations of PA and ST with estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and odds of CKD adopted the generalized linear regression, multivariable logistic regression, and isotemporal substitution models.
RESULTS
A total of 5,990 adults with 605 CKD patients were included in this study. Compared with the individuals in the first quartile group, participants in the fourth quartile of low-intensity physical activity (LIPA), moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA), and ST were associated with 52% (35%, 65%) and 42% (14%, 62%) lower odds of CKD and 64% (17%, 131%) higher odds of CKD, respectively. Substituting 30 min/day of ST with equivalent LIPA/MVPA contributed to risk reduction in CKD.
DISCUSSION
The findings suggest that increased LIPA and MVPA and reduced ST were associated with a lower risk of CKD and that replacing ST with LIPA may decrease the risk of CKD.

Cognitive training and promoting a healthy lifestyle for individuals with isolated REM sleep behavior disorder: study protocol of the delayed-start randomized controlled trial CogTrAiL-RBD.
BACKGROUND
Isolated REM sleep behavior disorder (iRBD) is an early α-synucleinopathy often accompanied by incipient cognitive impairment. As executive dysfunctions predict earlier phenotypic conversion from iRBD to Parkinson's disease and Lewy body dementia, cognitive training focusing on executive functions could have disease-modifying effects for individuals with iRBD.
METHODS
The study CogTrAiL-RBD investigates the short- and long-term effectiveness and the feasibility and underlying neural mechanisms of a cognitive training intervention for individuals with iRBD. The intervention consists of a 5-week digital cognitive training accompanied by a module promoting a healthy, active lifestyle. In this monocentric, single-blinded, delayed-start randomized controlled trial, the intervention's effectiveness will be evaluated compared to an initially passive control group that receives the intervention in the second, open-label phase of the study. Eighty individuals with iRBD confirmed by polysomnography will be consecutively recruited from the continuously expanding iRBD cohort at the University Hospital Cologne. The evaluation will focus on cognition and additional neuropsychological and motor variables. Furthermore, the study will examine the feasibility of the intervention, effects on physical activity assessed by accelerometry, and interrogate the intervention's neural effects using magnetic resonance imaging and polysomnography. Besides, a healthy, age-matched control group (HC) will be examined at the first assessment time point, enabling a cross-sectional comparison between individuals with iRBD and HC.
DISCUSSION
This study will provide insights into whether cognitive training and psychoeducation on a healthy, active lifestyle have short- and long-term (neuro-)protective effects for individuals with iRBD.

Self-reported shorter/longer sleep duration, insomnia, and evening preference are associated with hyperglycaemia in observational analyses, with similar observations in small studies using accelerometer-derived sleep traits. Mendelian randomization (MR) studies support an effect of self-reported insomnia, but not others, on glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c). To explore potential effects, we used MR methods to assess effects of accelerometer-derived sleep traits (duration, mid-point least active 5-h, mid-point most active 10-h, sleep fragmentation, and efficiency) on HbA1c/glucose in European adults from the UK Biobank (UKB) (n = 73,797) and the MAGIC consortium (n = 146,806). Cross-trait linkage disequilibrium score regression was applied to determine genetic correlations across accelerometer-derived, self-reported sleep traits, and HbA1c/glucose. We found no causal effect of any accelerometer-derived sleep trait on HbA1c or glucose. Similar MR results for self-reported sleep traits in the UKB sub-sample with accelerometer-derived measures suggested our results were not explained by selection bias. Phenotypic and genetic correlation analyses suggested complex relationships between self-reported and accelerometer-derived traits indicating that they may reflect different types of exposure. These findings suggested accelerometer-derived sleep traits do not affect HbA1c. Accelerometer-derived measures of sleep duration and quality might not simply be 'objective' measures of self-reported sleep duration and insomnia, but rather captured different sleep characteristics.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE
The associations of fundamental motor skills (FMS), health-related physical fitness (., cardiorespiratory fitness, CRF), and moderate-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) have been demonstrated in Western children, but these associations have not yet been validated in a sample of Chinese children. The aims of this study, therefore, were to examine the association between FMS subdomains and MVPA in a sample of Chinese children and to evaluate whether this association is mediated by CRF.
METHODS
A cross-sectional study consisting of 311 children aged 8-12 years (49.2% girls; mean age = 9.9 years) from Shanghai was conducted. FMS, CRF and MVPA were assessed using the Test of Gross Motor Development-3rd Edition, Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run and ActiGraph GT3X accelerometers. Preacher & Hayes's bootstrap method was used to test the mediating effects of CRF on the association between FMS and MVPA.
RESULTS
CRF fully mediated the association between total FMS and MVPA in girls (indirect effects, = 0.21, 95% CI [0.07-0.37]), while the mediation was only partial in boys (indirect effects, = 0.12, 95% CI [0.01-0.26]). CRF fully mediated the association between locomotor skills and MVPA in girls (indirect effects, = 0.27, 95% CI [0.09- 0.51]), whereas CRF partially mediated the association between object control skills and MVPA in boys (indirect effects, = 0.15, 95% CI [0.18-0.35]).
CONCLUSION
In order to better design and implement sex-specific interventions aiming to increase MVPA, it is essential to consider FMS subdomains and CRF alongside the sex differences in the association between them.

Exposure to natural environments may benefit child mental wellbeing whilst offering a lever to reduce health inequalities. However, understanding of these relationships is limited by evidence from indirect measures of exposure. We objectively measured children's direct use of natural environments-and use in low or high physical activity (PA) states-and associated this with their mental wellbeing. We then examined moderation by sex and household income. Using global positioning system and accelerometry data from children (n = 640), we measured mean daily time in natural environments ('total use'), which we stratified by PA level as 'passive use' (sedentary and light PA) and 'active use' (moderate and vigorous PA). Logistic regression associated exposures with dichotomised Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire outcomes (internalising difficulties; externalising difficulties; prosocial behaviour), with interactions to examine moderation. A 10-minute increase in total use was associated with 10.5 % lower risk of abnormal internalising outcomes (OR: 0.895; 95 % CI 0.809, 0.990), and 13.2 % lower risk of abnormal externalising outcomes (OR: 0.868; 95 % CI 0.776, 0.990). This suggests that ∼ 60 min of daily total use was associated with 50 % lower risk of abnormal internalising and externalising outcomes. The relative effects of passive and active use were equal, but their associations were moderated by income independently for specific outcomes. For externalising outcomes, the risk of abnormal scores in lower-income children reduced as passive use increased (P = 0.027) but remained constant for higher-income children. For prosocial outcomes, the likelihood of normal scores increased with active use in lower-income children, but not higher-income children (P = 0.005). Sex did not moderate these associations. The findings suggest that targeted interventions supporting disadvantaged children to use natural environments could help address inequalities in mental wellbeing. Further, the moderated associations with types of use suggest the equigenic effects of natural environments may operate through multiple pathways.

For individuals with spinal cord injuries (SCIs) above the midthoracic level, a common complication is the partial or complete loss of trunk stability in the seated position. Functional neuromuscular stimulation (FNS) can restore seated posture and other motor functions after paralysis by applying small electrical currents to the peripheral motor nerves. In particular, the Networked Neuroprosthesis (NNP) is a fully implanted, modular FNS system that is also capable of capturing information from embedded accelerometers for measuring trunk tilt for feedback control of stimulation. The NNP modules containing the accelerometers are located in the body based on surgical constraints. As such, their exact orientations are generally unknown and cannot be easily assessed. In this study, a method for estimating trunk tilt that employed the Gram-Schmidt method to reorient acceleration signals to the anatomical axes of the body was developed and deployed in individuals with SCI using the implanted NNP system. An anatomically realistic model of a human trunk and five accelerometer sensors was developed to verify the accuracy of the reorientation algorithm. Correlation coefficients and root mean square errors (RMSEs) were calculated to compare target trunk tilt estimates and tilt estimates derived from simulated accelerometer signals under a variety of conditions. Simulated trunk tilt estimates with correlation coefficients above 0.92 and RMSEs below 5° were achieved. The algorithm was then applied to accelerometer signals from implanted sensors installed in three NNP recipients. Error analysis was performed by comparing the correlation coefficients and RMSEs derived from trunk tilt estimates calculated from implanted sensor signals to those calculated via motion capture data, which served as the gold standard. NNP-derived trunk tilt estimates exhibited correlation coefficients between 0.80 and 0.95 and RMSEs below 13° for both pitch and roll in most cases. These findings suggest that the algorithm is effective at estimating trunk tilt with the implanted sensors of the NNP system, which implies that the method may be appropriate for extracting feedback signals for control systems for seated stability with NNP technology for individuals who have reduced control of their trunk due to paralysis.

Links between premorbid physical activity (PA) and disease onset/course in patients with anorexia nervosa (AN) remain unclear. The aim was to assess self-reported PA as a predictor of change in percent median BMI (%mBMI) and length of hospital stay (LOS). Five PA domains were assessed via semi-structured interview in adolescents with AN at hospitalization: premorbid PA in school grades 1-6 (PA1-6); PA before AN onset (PA-pre) and after AN onset (PA-post); new, pathological motivation for PA (PA-new); and high intensity PA (PA-high). Eating disorder psychopathology was measured via the Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q), and current PA (steps/day) with accelerometry. PA1-6 was also assessed in healthy controls (HCs). Using stepwise backward regression models, predictors of %mBMI change and LOS were examined. Compared with 22 HCs (age = 14.7 ± 1.3 years, %mBMI = 102.4 ± 12.1), 25 patients with AN (age = 15.1 ± 1.7 years, %mBMI = 74.8 ± 6.0) reported significantly higher PA1-6 (median, AN = 115 [interquartile range IQR = 75;200] min vs. HC = 68 [IQR = 29;105] min; = 0.017). PA-post was 244 ± 323% higher than PA-pre. PA1-6 was directly associated with PA-pre ( = 0.001) but not with PA-post ( = 0.179) or change in PA-pre to PA-post ( = 0.735). Lower %mBMI gain was predicted by lower baseline %mBMI ( = 0.001) and more PA-high ( = 0.004; r = 0.604). Longer LOS was predicted by higher PA-pre ( = 0.003, r = 0.368). Self-reported PA may identify a subgroup of youth with AN at risk of less weight gain and prolonged LOS during inpatient treatment for AN.

Reliable and valid data on physical activity (PA) and sedentary behavior (SB) are needed for implementing evidence-based interventions and policies. Monitoring of these behaviors is based on PA questionnaires (PAQs) and device-based measurements, but their comparability is challenging. The present study aimed to investigate the test-retest reliability and concurrent validity of Finnish versions of the widely used PAQs (IPAQ-SF, EHIS-PAQ, GPAQ, Eurobarometer) and to compare their data with accelerometer data. This study is based on the Finnish data of the European Union Physical Activity and Sport Monitoring project (EUPASMOS). Participants ( = 62 adults, 62% women) answered the PAQs twice, one week apart, and wore an accelerometer for these seven consecutive days. Intraclass correlations, Spearman's rank correlations, -tests, and Cohen's kappa with bootstrap confidence intervals were used to analyze the data. The PAQs had typically moderate-to-good test-retest reliability (ICC 0.22-0.78), GPAQ, EHIS-PAQ, and Eurobarometer showing the highest reliability. The PAQs correlated with each other when assessing sitting and vigorous PA (R = 0.70-0.97) and had a fair-to-substantial agreement when analyzing adherence to the PA recommendations (74-97%, Cohen's kappa 0.25-0.73). All the PAQs had a poor criterion validity against the accelerometry data. The Finnish versions of the PAQs are moderately reliable and valid for assessing PA, adherence to PA recommendations and sitting among adult participants. However, the poor criterion validity against accelerometer data indicates that PAQs assess different aspects of PA constructs compared to accelerometry.
