Review
A major worldwide health problem, Helicobacter Pylori (H. pylori) infection is associated with a number of gastrointestinal disorders, such as gastric cancer and peptic ulcers. The shortcomings of traditional treatment plans often include adverse effects, low patient compliance, and the emergence of antibiotic resistance. Investigating different delivery methods is thus necessary to improve the effectiveness of treatment. Mucoadhesive microspheres show promise as a method for delivering anti H. pylori drugs in a targeted and sustained manner. With their ability to stick to the stomach mucosa, these microspheres increase the local concentration of the medication and guarantee a more thorough removal of the pathogen. The potential of Mucoadhesive microspheres in the management of H. pylori infection is examined in this review. We explore the properties and benefits of Mucoadhesive polymers, the production techniques for microspheres, and the variables affecting their functionality. To provide a thorough grasp of this delivery system, a variety of drug-loading strategies, release mechanisms, and in vitro and in vivo assessment methodologies are covered. The potential of Mucoadhesive microspheres to overcome the drawbacks of traditional therapy is shown by highlighting recent developments in their formulation and their therapeutic consequences. Mucoadhesive microspheres constitute an important advancement in the treatment of Helicobacter pylori because they guarantee a regulated release of antibiotics and improve medication absorption at the site of infection. In order to fully appreciate the advantages of this novel delivery method, further study is necessary. Future research paths and the difficulties in the clinical translation of this technology are also discussed.

The purpose of this study is to prepare monodisperse silica mesoporous microspheres with narrow pore size distribution to promote their application in the field of liquid chromatography. An improved emulsion method was used to prepare silica mesoporous microspheres, and the rotary evaporation temperature, emulsification speed, dosage of porogen DMF, and dosage of the catalyst NH·HO were optimized. Subsequently, these microspheres were respectively treated by alkali-heating, calcination, and sieving. The D (particle size at the cumulative particle size distribution percentage of 50%) of as-prepared silica mesoporous microspheres is 26.3 μm, and the D/D (the ratio of particle size at a cumulative particle size distribution percentage of 90% to a cumulative particle size distribution percentage of 10%) is 1.94. The resultant silica mesoporous microspheres have distinctive pore structures, with a pore volume of more than 1.0 cm/g, an average pore size of 11.35 nm, and a median pore size of 13.4 nm. The silica mesoporous microspheres with a large particle size, uniform particle size distribution, large average pore size and pore volume, and narrow mesopore size distribution can basically meet the requirements of preparative liquid chromatographic columns.

Porous chitosan/hydroxyapatite (Chi-HAp) composite microspheres were prepared in an aqueous solution containing chitosan, calcium nitrate, and ammonium dihydrogen phosphate by using a hydrothermal method at various temperatures. The investigation indicated that temperature significantly impacted the final product's appearance. Hydroxyapatite (HAp) coupled with dicalcium phosphate dihydrate (DCPD) flakes were obviously found at 65 and 70 °C, while the latter gradually disappeared at higher temperatures. Conversely, synthesis at 90 °C led to smaller particle sizes due to the broken chitosan chains. The microspheres synthesized at 75 °C were selected for further analysis, revealing porous structures with specific surface areas of 36.66 m/g, pores ranging from 3 to 100 nm, and pore volumes of 0.58 cm/g. Vancomycin (VCM), an antibiotic, was then absorbed on and released from the microspheres derived at 75 °C, with a drug entrapment efficiency of 20% and a release duration exceeding 20 days. The bacteriostatic activity of the VCM/composite microspheres against increased with the VCM concentration and immersion time, revealing a stable inhibition zone diameter of approximately 4.3 mm from 24 to 96 h, and this indicated the retained stability and efficacy of the VCM during the encapsulating process.

Micron-Sized Thiol-Functional Polysilsesquioxane Microspheres with Open and Interconnected Macropores: Effects of the System Composition on the Porous Structure and Particle Size of the Microspheres.
Control of the porous structure and particle size is essential for improving the properties of polysilsesquioxane (PSQ) microspheres. Herein, using the strategy combining inverse suspension polymerization, two-step sol-gel- and polymerization-induced phase separation processes, micron-sized thiol-containing macroporous PSQ (TMPSQ) microspheres with controllable morphologies, adjustable particle diameters (4.9-17.3 μm), and pore sizes (40-3774 nm) were prepared. The morphology and size of the TMPSQ microspheres were characterized by SEM. The mercury intrusion method was employed to analyze the porous structure of the microspheres. The effects of the composition of the sol-gel disperse phase, the mass ratio of the sol-gel disperse phase to the oil continuous phase (WR), and the Span 80 mass content in the oil continuous phase on the morphology, particle diameter and pore size of the TMPSQ microspheres were investigated. Results indicated that the composition of the sol-gel disperse phase determines the morphology and porous structure of the microspheres, and WR and Span 80 content have remarkable impacts on the morphology and particle size of the microspheres. This study is beneficial to the design and fabrication of functional PSQ microspheres with desired properties and promising application prospects.

This research is aimed at studying the properties of polymer anticorrosion coatings based on ED-20 resin widely used in practice and industrial wastes. In this work, three basic types of nanoscale nanofillers were chosen: dispersed particles-microsilica, microspheres obtained at Kazakh enterprises, and carbon nanotubes. Physicochemical research methods were used in the research: a laser analyzer for studying the dispersibility of industrial waste and spectrometric research methods. The properties of materials were investigated by standardized methods. The obtained results show that the introduction of microsilica and microspheres obtained at Kazakhstani enterprises, used as additives, improves both the physical and mechanical properties of epoxy composites compared to the standard (control) material. The results of experiments have shown that the optimal content of additives of microsilica and microspheres provides an improvement in the physical and mechanical properties of epoxy composites in comparison with the standard (control) material. Studies have shown that the introduction of microspheres into ED-20 polymer increases impact toughness. The introduction of microsilica into the matrix contributes to the increase of elastic modulus. Experimental studies of optical properties of samples of carbon composite polymer films based on polystyrene (PS) with additives of carbon nanotubes C and C and multilayer carbon nanotubes were also carried out. The experimental results obtained for the optical properties of polymer composites based on basic polymers from solid waste and carbon nanotubes showed that the optical properties of polymer composites undergo noticeable changes.

Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in the United States and throughout the world. While there are different techniques for reducing or preventing the impact of heart disease, nitric oxide (NO) is administered as nitroglycerin for reversing angina or chest pain. Unfortunately, due to its gaseous and short-lived half-life, NO can be difficult to study or even administer. Therefore, controlled delivery of NO is desirable for therapeutic use. In the current study, the goal was to fabricate NO-releasing microspheres (MSs) using a donor molecule, S-Nitroso-N-Acetyl penicillamine, (SNAP), and encapsulating it in poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) using a single-emulsion technique that can provide sustained delivery of NO to cells over time without posing any toxicity risks. Optimization of the fabrication process was performed by varying the duration of homogenization (5, 10, and 20 min) and its effect on entrapment efficiency and size. The optimized SNAP-MS had an entrapment efficiency of ˃50%. Furthermore, we developed a modified method for NO detection by using NO microsensors to detect the NO release from SNAP-MSs in real time, showing sustained release behavior. The fabricated SNAP-MSs were tested for biocompatibility with HUVECs (human umbilical vein endothelial cells), which were found to be biocompatible. Lastly, we tested the effect of controlled NO delivery to human induced pluripotent stem-derived cardiomyocytes (hiPSC-CMs) via SNAP-MSs, which showed a significant improvement in the electrophysiological parameters and alleviated anoxic stress.

Combination of an Optically Induced Dielectrophoresis (ODEP) Mechanism and a Laminar Flow Pattern in a Microfluidic System for the Continuous Size-Based Sorting and Separation of Microparticles.
Optically induced dielectrophoresis (ODEP)-based microparticle sorting and separation is regarded as promising. However, current methods normally lack the downstream process for the transportation and collection of separated microparticles, which could limit its applications. To address this issue, an ODEP microfluidic chip encompassing three microchannels that join only at the central part of the microchannels (i.e., the working zone) was designed. During operation, three laminar flows were generated in the zone, where two dynamic light bar arrays were designed to sort and separate PS (polystyrene) microbeads of different sizes in a continuous manner. The separated PS microbeads were then continuously transported in laminar flows in a partition manner for the final collection. The results revealed that the method was capable of sorting and separating PS microbeads in a high-purity manner (e.g., the microbead purity values were 89.9 ± 3.7, 88.0 ± 2.5, and 92.8 ± 6.5% for the 5.8, 10.8, and 15.8 μm microbeads harvested, respectively). Overall, this study demonstrated the use of laminar flow and ODEP to achieve size-based sorting, separation, and collection of microparticles in a continuous and high-performance manner. Apart from the demonstration, this method can also be utilized for size-based sorting and the separation of other biological or nonbiological microparticles.
