Influence of the Manufacturing Trinomial (Technology, Printer, and Material) on the Marginal and Internal Discrepancies of Printed Metal Frameworks for the Fabrication of Tooth-Supported Prostheses: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to compare the influence of fabrication method (conventional, subtractive, and additive procedures) and manufacturing trinomial (technology, printer, and material combination) on the marginal and internal fit of cobaltchromium (Co-Cr) tooth-supported frameworks.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
An electronic systematic review was performed in five data bases: MEDLINE/PubMed, Embase, World of Science, Cochrane, and Scopus. Studies that reported the marginal and internal discrepancies of tooth-supported Co-Cr additive manufacturing (AM) frameworks were included. Two authors independently completed the quality assessment of the studies by applying the Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Checklist for Quasi-Experimental Studies. A third examiner was consulted to resolve lack of consensus.
RESULTS
A total of 31 articles were included and classified based on the evaluation method: manufacturing accuracy, the dual- or triple-scan method, stereomicroscope, optical coordinate measurement machine, microCT, profilometer, and silicone replica. Six subgroups were created: 3D Systems, Bego, Concept Laser, EOS, Kulzer, and Sisma. Due to the heterogeneity and limited data available, only the silicone replica group was considered for meta-analysis. The metaanalysis showed a mean marginal discrepancy of 91.09 μm (I2 = 95%, P < .001) in the conventional group, 77.48 μm (I2 = 99%, P < .001) in the milling group, and 82.92 μm (I2 = 98%, P < .001) in the printing group. Additionally, a mean internal discrepancy of 111.29 μm (I2 = 94%, P < .001) was obtained in the conventional casting group, 121.96 μm (I2 = 100%, P < .001) in the milling group, and 121.25 μm (I2 = 99%, P < .001) in the printing group.
CONCLUSIONS
Manufacturing method and selective laser melting (SLM) metal manufacturing trinomial did not impact the marginal and internal discrepancies of Co-Cr frameworks for the fabrication of tooth-supported restorations.

PURPOSE
The rise of stereolithographic surgical guides and digital workflow, combined with a better knowledge of materials and loading principle, has enabled the placement of the temporary prosthesis at the time of implant placement. This scoping review aimed to assess the current knowledge available on stackable guides.
METHODS
The review focused on fully edentulous or requiring total edentulism patients. The procedure studied was the use of stackable guides for edentulous patients in order to place immediate temporary prostheses. The clinical endpoint was immediate placement of the provisional prosthesis after surgery combined with a prior bone reduction using a stackable guide.
RESULTS
12 case reports or case series articles met inclusion criteria, which did not allow an analysis by a systematic review. The included studies were case reports or case series. Most of the articles showed a base stabilized by 3 or 4 bone-pins, anchored in buccal or lingual part. Regarding the accuracy of bone reduction (ranged from 0.0248 mm to 1.98 mm) and implant placement when compared to planned, only 4 articles reported quantitative data. 11 articles showed an immediate loading with the transitional prosthesis after implant placement.
CONCLUSIONS
There are as yet no prospective or comparative studies on the efficiency of this technique. In a reliable way, stackable guides seem to be able to guide the practitioner from the flap elevation to the placement of the temporary screw-retained implant supported prosthesis. Given the lack of studies in this specific field of guided surgery, further studies are needed to confirm the clinical relevance of this technique.

INTRODUCTION
This systematic review aimed to summarize the currently available evidence on the effect of oral probiotic therapy on infected wound healing among patients who underwent surgery.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
An electronic search was conducted for articles published during 2010- 2022 in Embase, PubMed/Medline, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar using the keywords "probiotics," "prebiotics," "synbiotics," and "wound infection." The titles and abstracts of 2625 articles were screened, and 22 publications that fulfilled the inclusion criteria were included.
RESULTS
The current review provides evidence of the beneficial effects of probiotics on wound infection, significantly reducing the duration of antibiotic usage and the length of hospital stay for patients, with no serious side effects reported. Wound infections following various surgeries, such as abdominal wound surgery, colorectal cancer resection, periampullary neoplasms treatment, liver and bile duct resection, pancreaticoduodenectomy, esophagostomy, dental wound surgery, plastic surgery, and burns, are shown to be positively affected by probiotic usage. Although, in some cases, the improvements were not statistically significant, overall, the administration of probiotics appears to be satisfactory in this regard.
CONCLUSION
Probiotics demonstrate the ability to prevent the growth of pathogens and maintain wound space sterility by recruiting M2 macrophages, which produce anti-inflammatory markers and enhance the activity of phagocytic cells. Additionally, probiotics can reduce bacterial translocation from their niche to other areas and inhibit the production of bacterial mediators that lead to bacterial invasion.

OBJECTIVES
Digital denture fabrication became an alternative method to conventional denture fabrication. However reviewing the antimicrobial performance of newly introduced digital fabrication methods in comparison to the conventional method is neglected. Aim of study: this review was to compare the antiadherence properties of various CAD-CAM subtractive (milled), additive (3D printed) conventional denture base resins. In order to answer the developed PICO question: "Does CAD-CAM milled and 3D printed denture base resins have microbiological antiadherence properties over the conventional ones?" We included comparative studies on digitally fabricated Denture base resins with conventionally fabricated one in term of microbial adhesion.
METHODS
All studies investigated the microbial adherence to CAD-CAM milled and 3D printed denture base resins in comparison to conventional were searched in the PubMed, Web of Sciences, and Scopus databases up to December 2023.
RESULTS
Fifteen studies have been investigated the microbial adhesion to milled and 3D printed denture base resins. CAD-CAM milled resins significantly decreased the microbial adhesion when compared with the conventional resins and 3D printed resins, while the later showed a high tendency for microbial adhesion. The addition of antifungal agents to 3D printed resins significantly reduced adhesion. In terms of 3D printing parameters, printing orientation affected adherence while printing technology had no effect on microbial adhesion.
CONCLUSION
Denture base materials and fabrication methods significantly affect the microbial adhesion. CAD-CAM milled denture base resins demonstrated low microbial adhesion. 3D-printed resins showed high tendency for adhesion. The antiadherent properties of 3D-printed resins can be improved by incorporating antifungal agents or changing the printing parameters, but further investigations are required to validate these modifications.

This meta-analysis aims to shed light on any primacy the -carotid (TC-TAVR) access may have over the -femoral access (TF-TAVR) for those undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). PubMed/MEDLINE and Cochrane Library were searched, from inception to March 2023 retrieving seven adjusted studies with a total of 6609 patients, of which 5048 underwent TF-TAVR while 1561 underwent TC-TAVR. No divergence in risk of mortality, major bleeding or stroke/transient ischemic attack in TC-TAVR when compared with TF-TAVR was found. In TC-TAVR, the risk of vascular complications was low (OR: 0.51, 95% CI: 0.32-0.83, p = 0.003) as compared with TF-TAVR. As of this analysis, the viability of TC-TAVR as first alternative to TF-TAVR is plausible.

OBJECTIVES
The incidence of oral cancer is significantly high in South Asia and Southeast Asia. Organized screening is an effective approach to early detection. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the reliability, diagnostic accuracy, and effectiveness of visual oral screening by community health workers (CHWs) in identifying oral cancer/oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs) in this region.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
We conducted a bibliographic search in PubMed, Scopus, the gray literature of Google Scholar, ProQuest dissertations, and additional manual searches. Twelve articles were included for qualitative synthesis and six for meta-analysis. Pooled sensitivity, specificity, diagnostic odds ratio (DOR), and forest plot analysis were performed.
RESULTS
Meta-analysis showed CHWs identified 8% (n = 6365) as suspicious and 92% (n = 74,140) as normal. The diagnostic accuracy of visual oral screening by CHWs showed a sensitivity of 75% (CI: 74-76) and specificity of 97% (CI: 97-97) in the detection of OPMDs/oral cancer. Forest plots were obtained using a random effects model (DOR: 24.52 (CI: 22.65-26.55)) and SAUC: 0.96 (SE = 0.05).
CONCLUSIONS
Oral visual examination by trained CHWs can be utilized for community screenings to detect oral cancer early. This approach can be used in primary healthcare to triage patients for further referral and management.

OBJECTIVES
The purpose of this systematic review is to disclose the impact of autoimmune diseases and their medical treatment on dental implant survival and success.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
A literature search was conducted using MEDLINE (PubMed), The Cochrane Library and Embase up to December 6, 2021. Any clinical study on patients with an autoimmune disease in whom implant therapy was performed was eligible. The quality of included studies was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. For each autoimmune disease group, data synthesis was divided into three groups: 1) overall results of the autoimmune disease, 2) overall results of corresponding control groups and 3) overall results of the autoimmune disease with a concomitant autoimmune disease (a subgroup of group 1). Descriptive statistics were used.
RESULTS
Of 4,865 identified articles, 67 could be included and mainly comprising case reports and retrospective studies with an overall low quality. Implant survival rate was 50 to 100% on patient and implant level after a weighted mean follow-up of 17.7 to 68.1 months. Implant success was sporadically reported. Data on immunosuppressive medication were too heterogeneously reported to allow detailed analysis.
CONCLUSIONS
Overall, a high implant survival rate was reported in patients with autoimmune diseases. However, the identified studies were characterized by a low quality. No conclusions could be made regarding implant success and the effect of immunosuppressants due to heterogeneous reporting.

AIM OF STUDY
This systematic review aimed to compare the physical-mechanical properties of 3D-printed (additively manufactured (AM)) zirconia compared to conventionally milled (subtractive manufactured: SM) zirconia specimens.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
A thorough search of Internet databases was conducted up to September 2023. The search retrieved studies that evaluated AM zirconia specimens and restorations regarding the physical-mechanical properties and mechanical behavior of zirconia. The main topic focused on 3Y-TZP. However, records of 4YSZ and 5YSZ were also included to gather more comprehensive evidence on additively manufactured zirconia ceramic. The quality of studies was assessed using the ROB2 tool, Newcastle Ottawa scale, and the Modified Consort Statement. Of 1736 records, 57 were assessed for eligibility, and 38 records were included in this review, only two clinical trials meet the inclusion criteria and 36 records were laboratory studies. There were no signs of mechanical complications and wear to antagonists with short-term clinical observation. SM thin specimens ≤1.5 mm showed statistically significant higher flexural strength than AM zirconia (p ≤ 0.01), while thicker specimens showed comparable outcomes (p > 0.5). The fracture resistance of dental restorations was dependent on the aging protocol, restoration type, and thickness. The bond strength of veneering ceramic to zirconia core was comparable.
CONCLUSIONS
The results pooled from two short-term clinical trials showed no signs of mechanical or biological complications of additively manufactured 3Y-TZP zirconia crowns. The flexural strength might depend on the specimens' thickness, but it showed promising results to be used in clinical applications, taking into account the printing technique and orientation, material composition (yttria content), solid loading, and sintering parameters. 3D-printed restorations fracture resistance improved when adhered to human teeth. The veneering ceramic bond was comparable to milled zirconia specimens. Long-term RCTs are recommended to confirm the mechanical behavior of 3D-printed restorations.

The surface properties of titanium dental implants, such as wettability and surface free energy, influence the adhesion of microorganisms responsible for inflammation and infection of peri-implant tissues. This systematic review aimed to investigate the relationship of titanium surface treatments, surface free energy/wettability property and its relationship with bacterial activity. This systematic review followed PRISMA 2020 (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and MetaAnalysis) guidelines and was registered in the OpenScience Framework (osf.io/ejnct). PubMed, ScienceDirect, Embase, and Scopus library databases were used from custom search strategies. Inclusion criteria were research articles that studied titanium or its alloys for wetting property and its correlation with adhesion. Of the 697 articles initially identified, 27 were selected after full-text reading and application of the eligibility criteria. In general, the evaluated studies showed that regardless of the surface treatment, there was an increase in titanium hydrophilicity and concomitant reduction in bacterial adhesion. The surface treatment of titanium results in higher surface free energy and lower bacterial adhesion. Hydrophilic titanium surfaces prevent adhesion of hydrophobic bacteria in early stages.
