Oocyte vitrification is a widespread and well-established assisted reproduction technique that has enabled some patient groups to obtain clinical results equivalent to those using fresh oocytes. However, as the number of babies born from vitrified oocytes has increased, so has the discussion regarding the method's safety for the offspring. Cryogenic oocyte damage caused by chemical, mechanical, and thermal stress has raised concern. In this systematic review, we asked the question of whether oocyte vitrification impacts offspring health. From 2007 to 2021, 13 studies were included in the analysis. All studies were observational and presented neonatal outcomes. A total of 4,159 babies were analyzed. Data from these studies were used to assess the following outcomes: multiple pregnancies, cesarean section, gestational age at delivery, the number of live births, birth weight, Apgar scores, congenital anomalies, and baby health. The most extended follow-ups evaluated children until 1, 2, and 6 years of age. According to the evidence appraised in this systematic review, vitrification seems to be a safe method for oocyte cryopreservation and child health, at least in the short term. Nevertheless, there is an urgent need for additional long-term data results from big databases and also for randomized controlled trials to improve the levels of evidence.

Globally, the production of Pekin ducks for meat and eggs is considerable, with an estimated >200 million ducks slaughtered yearly for their meat in the United States and the European Union alone. However, despite the size of the Pekin duck industries, there is a lack of research-based guidance regarding the welfare of the ducks. The purpose of this systematic review is to examine and summarize available scientific literature related to the welfare of Pekin ducks raised on commercial farms for meat and eggs. Specifically, we aimed to identify topics where sufficient literature exists to support best-practice duck welfare recommendations, as well as further research needs. The literature search targeted original research papers and review articles published in English. Six pre-establish inclusion/exclusion criteria were applied, yielding 63 publications. We summarized their content based their main topic of focus. For all original studies, we additionally recorded the country where the study was executed, scale of the project (commercial or experimental barns), general information about the housing system and management (waterers, flooring, ventilation, group size, and space allowance), and the types of outcome variables collected. We begin with an overview of key publication trends. We then synthesize and discuss welfare outcomes related to key housing/management decisions: bathing water, flooring and litter, stocking density and space availability, ventilation/air quality, lighting, outdoor access, and for egg laying birds the availability of nest boxes. Throughout, we outline specific research gaps, as well as overarching research needs.

PURPOSE
Oocytes and spermatozoa are electrogenic cells with the ability to respond to electrical stimuli and modulate their electrical properties accordingly. Determination of the ionic events during the gamete maturation helps to design suitable culture media for gametes in assisted reproductive technology (ART). The present systematic review focuses on the electrophysiology of human gametes during different stages of maturation and also during fertilization.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
The reports published in the English language between January 2000 and July 2021 were extracted from various electronic scientific databases following the PRISMA checklist using specific MeSH keywords.
RESULTS
Subsequent to the screening process with defined inclusion and exclusion criteria, 60 articles have been included in this review. Among them, 11 articles were directly related to the electrophysiology of human oocytes and 49 physiology department to the electrophysiology of human spermatozoa.
CONCLUSIONS
Gametes generate electrical currents by ionic exchange, particularly Na, K, Cl, H, Zn, Cu, Se, Mg, HCO, and Ca through specific ion channels in different stages of gamete maturation. The ionic concentrations, pH, and other physicochemical variables are modulated during the gametogenesis, maturation, activation, and the fertilization process following gamete function and metabolism. The electrical properties of human gametes change during different stages of maturation. Although it is demonstrated that the electrical properties are significant regulators of cell signaling and are fundamental to gamete maturation and fertilization, their exact roles in these processes are still poorly understood. Further research is required to unveil the intricate electrophysiological processes of human gamete maturation.

PURPOSE
Does existing scientific literature suggest an impact of oocyte dysmorphisms on biological or clinical outcomes of assisted reproduction treatments?
METHODS
Studies of interest were selected from an initial cohort of 6651 potentially relevant records retrieved. PubMed was systematically searched for peer-reviewed original papers and reviews identified by keywords and medical subject heading (MeSH) terms. The most relevant publications were critically evaluated to identify criteria for oocyte morphological evaluation and IVF outcomes. For each morphological abnormality, we generated an oocyte literature score (OLS) through the following procedure: (a) papers showing a negative, absence of, or positive correlation between a given abnormality and IVF outcome were scored 1, 0, and - 1, respectively; (b) the sum of these scores was expressed as a fraction of all analyzed papers; (c) the obtained fraction was multiplied by 10 and converted into decimal number.
RESULT
We identified eleven different dysmorphisms, of which six were extracytoplasmic (COC, zona pellucida, perivitelline space, polar body 1, shape, giant size) and five intracytoplasmic (vacuoles, refractile bodies, SER clusters, granularity, color). Among the extracytoplasmic dysmorphisms, abnormal morphology of the COC generated an OLS of 8.33, indicating a large prevalence (5/6) of studies associated with a negative outcome. Three intracytoplasmic dysmorphisms (vacuoles, SER clusters, and granularity) produced OLS of 7.14, 7.78, and 6.25, respectively, suggestive of a majority of studies reporting a negative outcome.
CONCLUSION
COC morphology, vacuoles, SER clusters, and granularity produced OLS suggestive of a prevalence of studies reporting a negative outcome.

The ovary is the first organ to age in humans with functional decline evident already in women in their early 30s. Reproductive aging is characterized by a decrease in oocyte quantity and quality, which is associated with an increase in infertility, spontaneous abortions, and birth defects. Reproductive aging also has implications for overall health due to decreased endocrinological output. Understanding the mechanisms underlying reproductive aging has significant societal implications as women globally are delaying childbearing and medical interventions have greatly increased the interval between menopause and total lifespan. Age-related changes inherent to the female gamete are well-characterized and include defects in chromosome and mitochondria structure, function, and regulation. More recently, it has been appreciated that the extra-follicular ovarian environment may have important direct or indirect impacts on the developing gamete, and age-dependent changes include increased fibrosis, inflammation, stiffness, and oxidative damage. The cumulus cells and follicular fluid that directly surround the oocyte during its final growth phase within the antral follicle represent additional critical local microenvironments. Here we systematically review the literature and evaluate the studies that investigated the age-related changes in cumulus cells and follicular fluid. Our findings demonstrate unique genetic, epigenetic, transcriptomic, and proteomic changes with associated metabolomic alterations, redox status imbalance, and increased apoptosis in the local oocyte microenvironment. We propose a model of how these changes interact, which may explain the rapid decline in gamete quality with age. We also review the limitations of published studies and highlight future research frontiers.

Sperm DNA damage is considered a predictive factor for the clinical outcomes of patients undergoing ART. Laboratory evidence suggests that zygotes and developing embryos have adopted specific response and repair mechanisms to repair DNA damage of paternal origin. We have conducted a systematic review in accordance with guidelines from Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) to identify and review the maternal mechanisms used to respond and repair sperm DNA damage during early embryonic development, how these mechanisms operate and their potential clinical implications. The literature search was conducted in Ovid MEDLINE and Embase databases until May 2021. Out of 6297 articles initially identified, 36 studies were found to be relevant through cross referencing and were fully extracted. The collective evidence in human and animal models indicate that the early embryo has the capacity to repair DNA damage within sperm by activating maternally driven mechanisms throughout embryonic development. However, this capacity is limited and likely declines with age. The link between age and decreased DNA repair capacity could explain decreased oocyte quality in older women, poor reproductive outcomes in idiopathic cases and patients who present high sperm DNA damage. Ultimately, further understanding mechanisms underlying the maternal repair of sperm DNA damage could lead to the development of targeted therapies to decrease sperm DNA damage, improved oocyte quality to combat incoming DNA insults or lead to development of methodologies to identify individual spermatozoa without DNA damage.

Oocyte morphology assessment is easy to implement in any laboratory with possible quality grading prior to fertilization. At present, comprehensive oocyte morphology scoring is not performed as a routine procedure. However, it may augment chances for successful treatment outcomes if a correlation with certain dysmorphisms can be proven. In order to determine a correlation between oocyte morphology and treatment outcome, we performed a systematic search in PubMed and Cochrane Controlled Trials Register following PRISMA guidelines. A total of 52 articles out of 6,755 search results met the inclusion criteria. Dark colour of the cytoplasm (observed with an incidence rate of 7%), homogeneous granularity of the cytoplasm (19%) and ovoid shape of oocytes (7%) appeared to have no influence on treatment outcome. Abnormalities such as refractile bodies (10%), fragmented first polar body (37%), dark zona pellucida (9%), enlarged perivitelline space (18%) and debris in it (21%) are likely to affect the treatment outcome to some extent. Finally, cytoplasmic vacuoles (4%), centrally located cytoplasmic granularity (12%) and clusters of smooth endoplasmic reticulum (4%) negatively impact infertility treatment outcomes. Nonetheless, morphological assessment is informative rather than predictive. Adding oocyte morphology to the artificial intelligence (AI)-driven selection process may improve the precision of the algorithms. Oocyte morphology assessment can be especially useful in oocyte donation cycles, during oocyte freezing for fertility preservation and finally, objective oocyte scoring can be important in cases of very poor treatment outcome as a tool for explanation of results to the patient.

BACKGROUND
Animal diarrhea due to diarrheagenic Escherichia coli (E. coli) has been a major concern in the field of livestock farming leading to a severe loss of domesticated animals. This systematic review aims to analyze medical shreds of evidence available in the literature and to discover the effect of IgY in treatment and protection against E. coli diarrhea.
METHODS AND RESULTS
Research reports that aimed to evaluate the effect of IgY against E. coli diarrhea were searched and collected from several databases (Science Direct, Springer link, Wiley, T&F). The collected studies were screened based on the inclusion criteria. 19 studies were identified and included in the meta-analysis. The pooled relative risk ratios were calculated for the studies and found to be statistically significant to support the therapeutic effect of IgY against E. coli diarrhea but the 95% confidence interval of a majority of studies includes a relative risk of 1. This variability between the effect of IgY in the overall estimate and individual studies accounts due to the presence of methodological heterogeneity. In addition, subgroup analysis revealed the grounds for heterogeneity.
CONCLUSIONS
This systematic review and meta-analysis provide concrete evidence for the favorable effect of IgY as a prophylactic and therapeutic modality against E. coli diarrhea. Yet, more research pieces of evidence with standardized animal studies aimed to utilize IgY against E. coli are vital. Further studies and trials on human subjects could open new perspectives in the application IgY as a therapeutic agent.

Poultry and poultry-derived products such as meat and eggs are among the main sources of non-typhoidal Salmonella (NTS) transmission to humans. Therefore, we performed a systematic review and used random-effects meta-analyses to (1) estimate the prevalence of NTS in poultry samples from birds, products and subproducts and environmental samples, (2) examine the diversity and frequency of their serovars and (3) estimate the prevalence and profiles of anti-microbial resistance (AMR) in NTS isolates reported in studies from the Americas. We included 157 studies from 15 countries comprising 261,408 poultry samples and estimated an overall pooled prevalence of 17.9% (95% Confidence Interval: 10.8-26.3) in birds, 21.8% (17.7-26.1) in products and subproducts and 29.5% (24.2-35.1) in environmental samples. At the national level, the prevalence of NTS was heterogeneous across countries with the highest values in Mexico, the United States and Canada. In total, 131 serovars were identified from 13,388 isolates; Heidelberg, Kentucky, Enteritidis and Typhimurium were the most prevalent in the overall top 10 ranking (range 6.5%-20.8%). At the national level, Enteritidis and Typhimurium were identified in most of the countries, though with national differences in their ranks. The prevalence of AMR increased from 24.1% for 1 antibiotic to 36.2% for 2-3 antibiotics and 49.6% for ≥ 4 antibiotics. Kentucky, Heidelberg, Typhimurium and Enteritidis were the serovars with the highest prevalence of AMR. Besides, tetracycline, ampicillin, streptomycin, ceftiofur and amoxicillin-clavulanic acid were the most frequent antibiotics to which NTS showed resistance. In conclusion, NTS was distributed through the avian production chain with high and heterogeneous values of prevalence in poultry samples. Besides, there were distinctive patterns of serovars distribution across countries and an alarming prevalence of AMR among zoonotic serovars.

Assisted Reproductive Technology by means of oocyte donation is a very successful method leading to psychosocial consequences in donors. The aim of the present study was to conduct a systematic review of the existing literature on the psychosocial consequences of oocyte donation in the donors. The present study was conducted as a systematic review based on the PRISMA checklist. Searches were performed in PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and SID databases for the documents written between 2000 and 2020 regardless of the research methodology and the employed tools. English and Persian articles focusing on psychological and social issues of oocyte donation were reviewed. From 2,759 studies which were found, finally 14 related ones were selected. Psychosocial challenges of donors were obtained in three dimensions including short-term and long-term psychological reactions to treatment complications, emotional reactions to their function as an oocyte donor, and emotional reactions to the resulting offspring resulting and related social challenges. According to the existing studies, oocyte donation is a challenging process with short-term and long-term psychosocial consequences for donors. In order to prevent the feasible psychosocial hazards caused by the donation process, it is necessary to provide oocyte donors with psychosocial support, proper counseling, and awareness of the facts and possible issues ahead.
