OBJECTIVE
This systematic review aims to evaluate existing evidence to investigate the therapeutic efficacy of M2 macrophage-derived exosomes in bone regeneration.
DESIGN
A comprehensive search between 2020 and 2024 across PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus was conducted using a defined search strategy to identify relevant studies regarding the following question: "What is the impact of M2 macrophage-derived exosomes on bone regeneration?". Controlled in vitro and in vivo studies were included in this study. The SYRCLE tool was used to evaluate the risk of bias in the included animal studies.
RESULTS
This review included 20 studies published. Seven studies were selected for only in vitro analysis, whereas 13 studies underwent both in vitro and in vivo analyses. The in vivo studies employed animal models, including 163 C57BL6 mice and 73 Sprague-Dawley rats. Exosomes derived from M2 macrophages were discovered to be efficacious in promoting bone regeneration and vascularization in animal models of bone defects. These effects were primarily confirmed through morphological and histological assessments. This remarkable outcome is attributed to the regulation of multiple signaling pathways, as evidenced by the findings of 11 studies investigating the involvement of miRNAs in this intricate process. In addition, in vitro studies observed positive effects on cell proliferation, migration, osteogenesis, and angiogenesis. Heterogeneity in study methods hinders direct comparison of results across studies.
CONCLUSION
M2 macrophage-derived exosomes demonstrate remarkable potential for promoting bone regeneration. Further research optimizing their application and elucidating the underlying mechanisms can pave the way for clinical translation.

The proliferation of water hyacinths (Eichhornia crassipes), recognized as one of the most invasive aquatic plants worldwide, presents profound ecological and socioeconomic challenges across diverse ecosystems, particularly in rural communities. This systematic review examines the extensive global impacts and explores various mitigation strategies to manage and utilize this pervasive species. Ecologically, water hyacinth disrupts aquatic ecosystems by depleting oxygen levels, obstructing sunlight, and displacing native species, which in turn compromises water quality and biodiversity. Economically, its rapid spread affects agriculture, fishing, and navigation, imposing significant costs on local economies and livelihoods. In response, this review assesses integrated management approaches combining mechanical, chemical, and biological controls that have been implemented to curb its growth. Moreover, innovative strategies that repurpose the biomass for bioenergy, handicrafts, and bio-remediation are discussed, highlighting their potential to transform an ecological menace into an economic resource. These strategies not only mitigate the plant's negative impacts but also contribute to sustainable development by providing economic opportunities and enhancing ecosystem services. This review stresses the necessity for a holistic approach to water hyacinth management that is adaptive, sustainable, and beneficial to affected communities.

BACKGROUND
While several risk factors for recurrences have been defined, the topographic pattern of meningioma recurrences after surgical resection has been scarcely investigated. The possibility of theoretically predicting the site of recurrence not only allows us to better understand the pathogenetic bases of the disease and consequently to drive the development of new targeted therapies, but also guides the decision-making process for treatment strategies and tailored follow-ups to decrease/prevent recurrence.
METHODS
The authors performed a comprehensive and detailed systematic literature review of the EMBASE and MEDLINE electronic online databases regarding the topographic pattern of recurrence after surgical treatment for intracranial meningiomas. Demographics and histopathological, neuroradiological and treatment data, pertinent to the topography of recurrences, as well as time to recurrences, were extracted and analyzed.
RESULTS
Four studies, including 164 cases of recurrences according to the inclusion criteria, were identified. All studies consider the possibility of recurrence at the previous dural site; three out of four, which are the most recent, consider 1 cm outside the previous dural margin to be the main limit to distinguish recurrences closer to the previous site from those more distant. Recurrences mainly occur within or close to the surgical bed; higher values of proliferation index are associated with recurrences close to the original site rather than within it.
CONCLUSIONS
Further studies, including genomic characterization of different patterns of recurrence, will better clarify the main features affecting the topography of recurrences. A comparison between topographic classifications of intracranial meningioma recurrences after surgery and after radiation treatment could provide further interesting information.

Endometriosis is a benign condition affecting women of reproductive age. A potential association with ovarian cancer has been documented. Atypical endometriosis (AE) is characterized by deviations from the typical microscopic appearance of endometriosis, including cytologic and architectural atypia. AE has been recognized as a potential precursor to endometriosis-associated ovarian cancers (EAOC), particularly endometrioid and clear cell subtypes. AE presents challenges in diagnosis due to its diverse clinical and pathological features, often requiring careful histological evaluation for accurate identification. Architectural AE, defined by localized proliferation of crowded glands with atypical epithelium resembling endometrial neoplasia, and cytologic AE, characterized by nuclear atypia within the epithelial lining of endometriotic cysts, are key subtypes. Immunohistochemical and molecular studies have revealed aberrant expression of markers such as Ki67, COX-2, BAF250a, p53, estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, and IMP-3. Long-term follow-up studies suggest relatively low recurrence and malignant transformation rates among patients with AE, but uncertainties persist regarding its exact malignancy potential and optimal management strategies. Integration of artificial intelligence and shared molecular aberrations between AE and EAOC may enhance diagnostic accuracy. Continuous interdisciplinary collaboration and ongoing research efforts are crucial for a deeper understanding of the relationship between endometriosis and carcinogenesis, ultimately improving patient care and surveillance.

Atypical lymphoplasmacytic and immunoblastic proliferation (ALPIBP) was first reported in 1984 as characteristic histological findings in lymph nodes associated with autoimmune diseases, but it has not been clearly defined to date. To summarize the histological characteristics and clinical diagnoses associated with ALPIBP, we searched MEDLINE and EMBASE for all peer-reviewed articles using keywords including "atypical lymphoplasmacytic and immunoblastic lymphadenopathy" from their inception to December 27, 2023. We also summarized the courses of three cases with a pathological diagnosis of ALPIBP. Nine articles with 52 cases were included. Among the total of 55 cases, including the three from our institution, the median age of the cases was 63.5 years with a female predominance (69.5%). Lymphadenopathy was generalized in 65.6% and regional in 34.4% of cases. RA (24.4%), SLE (24.4%), and autoimmune hemolytic anemia (20.0%), were common clinical diagnoses. A combination of cytotoxic chemotherapy was used in 15.6% of cases due to the suspicion of malignancy. Nodal T-follicular helper cell lymphoma, angioimmunoblastic type, methotrexate-associated lymphoproliferative disorders, and IgG4-related diseases were listed as important diseases that need to be pathologically differentiated from ALPIBP. This review summarizes the current understanding of the characteristics of ALPIBP. Given that underrecognition of ALPIBP could lead to overdiagnosis of hematological malignancy and unnecessary treatment, increased awareness of the condition in pathologists and clinicians is crucial.

Due to their ability to replicate the in vivo microenvironment through cell interaction and induce cells to stimulate cell function, three-dimensional cell culture models can overcome the limitations of two-dimensional models. Organoids are 3D models that demonstrate the ability to replicate the natural structure of an organ. In most organoid tissue cultures, matrigel made of a mouse tumor extracellular matrix protein mixture is an essential ingredient. However, its tumor-derived origin, batch-to-batch variation, high cost, and safety concerns have limited the usefulness of organoid drug development and regenerative medicine. Its clinical application has also been hindered by the fact that organoid generation is dependent on the use of poorly defined matrices. Therefore, matrix optimization is a crucial step in developing organoid culture that introduces alternatives as different materials. Recently, a variety of substitute materials has reportedly replaced matrigel. The purpose of this study is to review the significance of the latest advances in materials for cell culture applications and how they enhance build network systems by generating proper cell behavior. Excellence in cell behavior is evaluated from their cell characteristics, cell proliferation, cell differentiation, and even gene expression. As a result, graphene oxide as a matrix optimization demonstrated high potency in developing organoid models. Graphene oxide can promote good cell behavior and is well known for having good biocompatibility. Hence, advances in matrix optimization of graphene oxide provide opportunities for the future development of advanced organoid models.

Bizarre parosteal osteochondromatous proliferation (BPOP), also termed Nora lesion, is a rare, benign tumor most often located in the hands and feet. We herein present the second reported case of BPOP affecting the spine, an uncommon location. One year after surgical excision, the patient was pain-free and showed no evidence of recurrence. We reviewed a total of 323 cases of BPOP among 101 articles, providing the first systematic update on the latest knowledge of BPOP. The age of patients with BPOP ranges from 3 months to 87 years, peaking in the second and third decades of life. The hands are the most common location of BPOP (58.39%), followed by the feet (20.81%). Imaging features play a key role in the diagnosis of BPOP, but histopathologic diagnosis remains the gold standard. Differential diagnosis of BPOP should be based on the epidemiologic and clinical features as well as clinical examination findings. Surgical resection is the most extensively used treatment for BPOP. Recurrence is common (37.44%) and can be treated with re-excision. This article can deepen our understanding of BPOP and will be helpful for the diagnosis and treatment of BPOP in clinical practice.

BACKGROUND
Our objective was to conduct a systematic review of the effects of hydrolyzed collagen supplementation on the proliferation and activation of fibroblasts.
METHODS
The search was conducted for journals that published articles in the English language, peer-reviewed, meeting the following criteria: (a) randomized clinical trials, (b) randomized studies in animals or humans, (c) in vitro studies, (d) studies using hydrolyzed collagens or collagen peptides, and (e) studies assessing alterations on fibroblasts as the primary or secondary outcome. We utilized the main journal databases PubMed/Web of Science and ongoing reviews by PROSPERO. For bias risk and methodological quality, we used an adaptation of the Downs and Black checklist. Our review followed the PRISMA checklist, conducted from February 2024 to the first week of March 2024, by two independent researchers (P.A.Q.I. and R.P.V.).
RESULTS
Eleven studies were included in this review, where our findings reinforce the notion that hydrolyzed collagens or collagen peptides at concentrations of 50-500 μg/mL are sufficient to stimulate fibroblasts in human and animal tissues without inducing toxicity. Different enzymatic processes may confer distinct biological properties to collagens, allowing for scenarios favoring fibroblast promotion or antioxidant effects. Lastly, collagens with lower molecular weights exhibit greater bioavailability to adjacent tissues.
CONCLUSIONS
Hydrolyzed collagens or collagen peptides with molecular sizes ranging from <3 to 3000 KDa promote the stimulation of fibroblasts in human tissues.

Renal ischemia-reperfusion is a common cause of acute kidney injury leading to significant morbidity and mortality. There are no effective treatments available in clinical practice. This meta-analysis aims to assess the effect of IL-10 immunotherapy on renal ischemia-reperfusion injury. Medline, Embase, Cochrane-library, Google Scholar and clinicaltrials.gov were searched up to 31 March 2023. Preclinical and clinical interventional studies investigating IL-10 immunotherapy for renal ischemia-reperfusion were eligible for inclusion. The primary endpoint was renal function (serum creatinine) following ischemia-reperfusion. The secondary endpoints included mitochondrial integrity, cellular proliferation, regulated cell death (TUNEL assay), expression of inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-1β), M1/M2 macrophage polarization, tissue integrity (tubular injury score), long-term kidney fibrosis (fibrotic area %) and adverse events (pulmonary toxicity, cardiotoxicity hepatotoxicity). The search returned 861 records. From these, 16 full texts were screened and subsequently, seven animal studies, corresponding to a population of 268 mice/rats, were included. Compared to the control treatment, IL-10 immunotherapy reduced serum creatinine more effectively within 24 h of administration (95% CI: -9.177, -5.601, I = 22.42%). IL-10 immunotherapy promoted mitochondrial integrity and cellular proliferation and reduced regulated cell death (95% CI: -11.000, -4.184, I = 74.94%). It decreased the expression of TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-1β, led to M2 polarization of the local macrophages, reduced tubular injury score (95% CI: -8.917, -5.755, I = 22.71%), and long-term kidney fibrosis (95% CI: -6.963, -3.438, I = 0%). No adverse outcomes were captured. In Conclusion, IL-10 immunotherapy safely improves outcomes in animal models of renal ischemia-reperfusion; the translational potential of IL-10 immunotherapy needs to be further investigated in clinical trials.

Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) are a heterogeneous group of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions involving the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), masticatory muscles, and associated structures. Mesenchymal stromal/stem cells (MSCs) have emerged as a promising therapy for TMJ repair. This systematic review aims to consolidate findings from the preclinical animal studies evaluating MSC-based therapies, including MSCs, their secretome, and extracellular vesicles (EVs), for the treatment of TMJ cartilage/osteochondral defects and osteoarthritis (OA). Following the PRISMA guidelines, PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Cochrane Library databases were searched for relevant studies. A total of 23 studies involving 125 , 149 , 470 , and 74 were identified. Compliance with the ARRIVE guidelines was evaluated for quality assessment, while the SYRCLE risk of bias tool was used to assess the risk of bias for the studies. Generally, MSC-based therapies demonstrated efficacy in TMJ repair across animal models of TMJ defects and OA. In most studies, animals treated with MSCs, their derived secretome, or EVs displayed improved morphological, histological, molecular, and behavioral pain outcomes, coupled with positive effects on cellular proliferation, migration, and matrix synthesis, as well as immunomodulation. However, unclear risk in bias and incomplete reporting highlight the need for standardized outcome measurements and reporting in future investigations.
