The brain is the most complex organ in the human body and, as such, its study entails great challenges (methodological, theoretical, etc.). Nonetheless, there is a remarkable amount of studies about the consequences of pathological conditions on its development and functioning. This bibliographic review aims to cover mostly findings related to changes in the physical distribution of neurons and their connections-the connectome-both structural and functional, as well as their modelling approaches. It does not intend to offer an extensive description of all conditions affecting the brain; rather, it presents the most common ones. Thus, here, we highlight the need for accurate brain modelling that can subsequently be used to understand brain function and be applied to diagnose, track, and simulate treatments for the most prevalent pathologies affecting the brain.

Interaction between Risk Single-Nucleotide Polymorphisms of Developmental Dyslexia and Parental Education on Reading Ability: Evidence for Differential Susceptibility Theory.
While genetic and environmental factors have been shown as predictors of children's reading ability, the interaction effects of identified genetic risk susceptibility and the specified environment for reading ability have rarely been investigated. The current study assessed potential gene-environment (G×E) interactions on reading ability in 1477 school-aged children. The gene-environment interactions on character recognition were investigated by an exploratory analysis between the risk single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), which were discovered by previous genome-wide association studies of developmental dyslexia (DD), and parental education (PE). The re-parameterized regression analysis suggested that this G×E interaction conformed to the strong differential susceptibility model. The results showed that rs281238 exhibits a significant interaction with PE on character recognition. Children with the "T" genotype profited from high PE, whereas they performed worse in low PE environments, but "CC" genotype children were not malleable in different PE environments. This study provided initial evidence for how the significant SNPs in developmental dyslexia GWA studies affect children's reading performance by interacting with the environmental factor of parental education.

AIM
To analyze the 100 most frequently cited articles on language disorders in children and adolescents and assess the interplay with dentistry by means of a bibliometric analysis.
MATERIALS AND METHOD
A search of the 100 most frequently cited articles up to December 2021 on language disorders was performed in the Web of Science Core Collection database. Four researchers extracted the data on number of citations, title, authors, country, year of publication, journals, study design, prevalent clinical conditions, and area of expertise. The analyses were performed using VOSviewer and Excel.
RESULTS
The total number of citations ranged from 251 to 1,431. Four articles were cited more than 1,000 times. Bishop DVM (10 articles; 3,653 citations) and Tomblin JD (10 articles; 4,261 citations) were the most frequently cited authors. The institutions with the largest number of publications were the University of Oxford/England (11%) and the University of Kansas/USA (8%). Observational study design was the most frequent (77%). Autism spectrum disorder (18%) and dyslexia (14%) were the most broadly investigated clinical conditions. Speech-language pathology (32%) was the area of expertise with the largest number of articles, and none of the top 100 studies showed interplay with dentistry.
CONCLUSION
The 100 most widely cited articles on language disorders are mostly observational, mainly address autism spectrum disorder, and are in the field of speech-language pathology No study reported interplay with dentistry.

Slow cortical oscillations play a crucial role in processing the speech amplitude envelope, which is perceived atypically by children with developmental dyslexia. Here we use electroencephalography (EEG) recorded during natural speech listening to identify neural processing patterns involving slow oscillations that may characterize children with dyslexia. In a story listening paradigm, we find that atypical power dynamics and phase-amplitude coupling between delta and theta oscillations characterize dyslexic versus other child control groups (typically-developing controls, other language disorder controls). We further isolate EEG common spatial patterns (CSP) during speech listening across delta and theta oscillations that identify dyslexic children. A linear classifier using four delta-band CSP variables predicted dyslexia status (0.77 AUC). Crucially, these spatial patterns also identified children with dyslexia when applied to EEG measured during a rhythmic syllable processing task. This transfer effect (i.e., the ability to use neural features derived from a story listening task as input features to a classifier based on a rhythmic syllable task) is consistent with a core developmental deficit in neural processing of speech rhythm. The findings are suggestive of distinct atypical neurocognitive speech encoding mechanisms underlying dyslexia, which could be targeted by novel interventions.

The purpose of this longitudinal study was to examine the development of spelling in a large sample (N = 503, boys: N = 219) of Greek-speaking children with (N = 41) and without (N = 462) reading difficulties. Children were initially tested in Grades 2-4 and then at five consecutive measurement points over a 3-year period, focusing on how initial reading ability, grade, and gender may moderate the rate of spelling growth. Individual growth curve modeling revealed continuous growth of spelling performance in the total sample, although the growth rate decreased over time for children first tested in Grades 3-4. Spelling growth rate was also significantly slower among children with reading difficulties between Grades 2-4 and 3-5. The two reading groups displayed similar growth rates between Grades 4 and 6. Spelling growth rates did not vary significantly with gender. Overall, our study highlights the persistence of spelling difficulties even after 6 years of systematic teaching in children with reading difficulties. The severe and persistent spelling deficits of Greek-speaking children with reading difficulties may be attributed to the rich morphological system of the Greek language, the intermediate Greek orthographic transparency (in the direction of writing), and their limited experience with print.

OBJECTIVES
Scalp acupuncture is a unique acupuncture method developed based on brain functional and pathophysiological knowledge. In past decades, there has been significant development in the understanding of the brain pathology of many neurological disorders through cutting-edge brain imaging techniques. Yet, these findings have not been incorporated into scalp acupuncture. In the present paper, we aimed to initiate an attempt to develop/identify scalp acupuncture targets based on neuroimaging findings.
METHODS
Based on the meta-analysis of neuroimaging studies in the Neurosynth database platform (http://neurosynth.org/), the brain clusters related to neurological disorders were automatically identified according to the search terms "Parkinson's disease"(PD), "chronic pain"(CP), "aphasia"(APH), "dyslexia"(DYS), "mild cognitive impairment", "Alzheimer's disease" and "dementia". Subsequently, the discovered brain region clusters projected onto the brain surface and scalp surface were listed, and the peak points of the clusters projected to the scalp surface were proposed as the potential stimulation targets for the corresponding diseases. Further, by combining the traditional scalp acupoints (including the scalp acupuncture lines) with 10-20 EEG system sites, we made localization suggestions for scalp stimulation targets and made acupuncture operation suggestions by combining with the shape of the brain region clusters. The literature search was conducted on July 30, 2022.
RESULTS
The localization and manipulation suggestions of neuroimage-based scalp acupuncture targets were introduced in two parts. This part (part 1) includes PD, CP, APH, and DYS. Here are 3 target examples of each of these 4 diseases simply introduced due to word limitation. 1) PD. Based on the 175 articles retrieved from Neurosynth, we identified 7 potential scalp acupuncture targets for PD, the locations of the acupuncture stimulation and the recommended acupuncture needle operation (RANO) as well as the corresponding brain regions (CBRs) respectively are as below. PD1:about 0.5 (1 ≈33.3 mm) superior-posterior to the left Xuanlu (GB5);puncturing subcutaneously and forward-upward;the left premotor area, subfrontal cortex of the island, inferior frontal gyrus and middle frontal gyrus. PD2:about 1 lateral-inferior to the left Chengling (GB18);puncturing subcutaneously and backward-upward;the inferior parietal lobule and postcentral gyrus. PD3:about 0.5 lateral-anterior to the left GB18;puncturing subcutaneously and inward-backward;left anterior central gyrus and posterior central gyrus. 2) CP. Based on the retrieved 92 articles, we identified 8 potential scalp acupuncture targets, the location of the acupuncture stimulation and the RANO, and CBRs respectively are as below. CP1:about 1 anterior-inferior to the left Xuanli (GB8);puncturing subcutaneously and backward-inwards;the left inferior frontal gyrus orbitalis and pars triangularis. CP2:about 0.5 posterior-superior to the left GB5;puncturing subcutaneously and forward-upward;the left anterior central gyrus and premotor area. CP3:about 0.5 posterior-superior to the left GB8;puncturing subcutaneously and forward;left inferior central area/central sulci operculum (second somatosensory area). 3) APH. Based on the retrieved 82 papers, we identified 7 potential scalp acupuncture targets for APH, their locations, RANO, and CBRs respectively are as below. APH1:close to the left GB5;puncturing subcutaneously and forward-downward;left subfrontal gyrus operculi/triangularis. APH2:about 0.5 posterior to the left Hanyan (GB4);puncturing subcutaneously and backward-upward;the left anterior central gyrus and posterior central gyrus. APH3:about 0.5 anterior-inferior to the left Qubin (GB7);puncturing subcutaneously and backward-downward;left medial/superior temporal gyrus. 4) DYS. Based on the retrieved 76 researches, we identified 8 potential scalp acupuncture targets for DYS, their locations, RANO and CBRs respectively are as below. DYS1:about 1 anterior-inferior to the left GB5;puncturing subcutaneously and forward-upward;the pars triangularis of the left inferior frontal gyrus. DYS2:about 0.5 posterior-superior to the left GB5;puncturing subcutaneously and forward-downward;the left subfrontal gyrus operculum, pars triangularis and anterior central gyrus. DYS3:the midpoint between the left GB5 and GB18;puncturing subcutaneously and forward;the left anterior central gyrus and posterior central gyrus.
CONCLUSIONS
We identified scalp acupuncture targets for several common neurological disorders based on neuroimaging evidence for clinical application and research. The proposed targets may also be used for treating these disorders using brain stimulation methods.

OBJECTIVE
Dyslexia is characterized by difficulties with fluent word recognition, decoding, or spelling, and it has been linked to family history. Given the impact of dyslexia on broad academic activities and well-being, ensuring that information about dyslexia is accessible to affected children and their families is vital. This study aims to assess the readability levels of dyslexia-related websites, with the hypothesis that such websites should be written at an appropriate readability level to accommodate those who may also have reading challenges.
METHODS
This study analyzes the readability of 50 web articles on dyslexia using 6 readability formulas: Flesch-Kincaid Reading Ease, Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level, Gunning Fog Score, Simple Measure of Gobbledygook (SMOG) Index, Coleman Liau Index, and Automated Readability Index. The search term "What is dyslexia" was used on Google. Each article was analyzed using the online calculation website WebFX. The readability goal for these websites was set at fifth grade, a level recommended for patients with reading challenges.
RESULTS
The study found that among the 50 websites, the lowest median readability score was 11.8 (corresponding to a 12th-grade level) on the SMOG Index, while the highest scores were 15.5 on both the Gunning Fog Score and the Coleman Liau Index (indicative of college-level readability). Almost none of the websites had scores below a fifth-grade level.
CONCLUSION
Most websites related to dyslexia are too complex. Tools such as readability metrics and sentence restructuring by AI can help make the information more accessible and understandable to the stakeholders.

We aimed to investigate the potential added value of postmortem MRI (PMMRI) in sudden unexpected infant death (SUID) cases referred to our center between September 2020 and June 2023. Ultimately, 19 SUID cases underwent PMMRI alongside standard autopsy procedures, which included technical examinations such as postmortem CT (PMCT). Four radiologists, two with prior PMMRI experience, provided structured reports following consensus. For each case, the responsible forensic medicine specialist documented the cause of death before and after reviewing the PMMRI report. Additionally, they assessed the overall impact of the PMMRI report and had the opportunity to provide written comments. The results of our study indicate that none of the PMMRI reports altered the prior determined cause of death, which included cases of infection, asphyxia, and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). However, we observed a moderate impact in one case and a low impact in 10 cases. The moderate impact arose from the PMMRI report identifying hypoxic-ischemic changes, where histologic examination of the brain was perceived as normal. Conversely, in the 10 cases with a low impact, the PMMRI reports supported the autopsy findings, specifically indicating brain injury and intra-alveolar cellular infiltrates. In conclusion, our study suggests that while PMMRI may not be pivotal in determining the cause of death in SUID cases, it could aid in detecting hypoxic-ischemic changes and reinforcing brain and lung observations. However, distinguishing genuine lung pathology from postmortem changes using PMMRI remains challenging. Further research is warranted to clarify the role of PMMRI in forensic SUID investigations.

BACKGROUND
Delay in the diagnosis of neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) in toddlers and postnatal depression (PND) is a major public health issue. In both cases, early intervention is crucial but too rarely implemented in practice.
OBJECTIVE
Our goal was to determine if a dedicated mobile app can improve screening of 5 NDDs (autism spectrum disorder [ASD], language delay, dyspraxia, dyslexia, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder [ADHD]) and reduce PND incidence.
METHODS
We performed an observational, cross-sectional, data-based study in a population of young parents in France with at least 1 child aged <10 years at the time of inclusion and regularly using Malo, an "all-in-one" multidomain digital health record electronic patient-reported outcome (PRO) app for smartphones. We included the first 50,000 users matching the criteria and agreeing to participate between May 1, 2022, and February 8, 2024. Parents received periodic questionnaires assessing skills in neurodevelopment domains via the app. Mothers accessed a support program to prevent PND and were requested to answer regular PND questionnaires. When any PROs matched predefined criteria, an in-app recommendation was sent to book an appointment with a family physician or pediatrician. The main outcomes were the median age of the infant at the time of notification for possible NDD and the incidence of PND detection after childbirth. One secondary outcome was the relevance of the NDD notification by consultation as assessed by health professionals.
RESULTS
Among 55,618 children median age 4 months (IQR 9), 439 (0.8%) had at least 1 disorder for which consultation was critically necessary. The median ages of notification for probable ASD, language delay, dyspraxia, dyslexia, and ADHD were 32.5 (IQR 12.8), 16 (IQR 13), 36 (IQR 22.5), 80 (IQR 5), and 61 (IQR 15.5) months, respectively. The rate of probable ADHD, ASD, dyslexia, language delay, and dyspraxia in the population of children of the age included between the detection limits of each alert was 1.48%, 0.21%, 1.52%, 0.91%, and 0.37%, respectively. Sensitivity of alert notifications for suspected NDDs as assessed by the physicians was 78.6% and specificity was 98.2%. Among 8243 mothers who completed a PND questionnaire, highly probable PND was detected in 938 (11.4%), corresponding to a reduction of -31% versus our previous study without a support program. Suspected PND was detected a median 96 days (IQR 86) after childbirth. Among 130 users who filled in the satisfaction survey, 99.2% (129/130) found the app easy to use and 70% (91/130) reported that the app improved follow-up of their child. The app was rated 4.8/5 on Apple's App Store.
CONCLUSIONS
Algorithm-based early alerts suggesting NDDs were highly specific with good sensitivity as assessed by real-life practitioners. Early detection of 5 NDDs and PNDs was efficient and led to a possible 31% reduction in PND incidence.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS
Educational neuroscience has emerged as an interdisciplinary field aimed at elucidating the neurobiological underpinnings of learning and educational outcomes. By synthesizing findings from diverse research endeavours, this Editorial aims to delineate the intricate interplay between neural processes and educational experiences, shedding light on the factors that shape cognitive development and learning trajectories in children.
RESULTS
This Editorial highlights significant advancements, spanning investigations into neural mechanisms, cognitive development and educational interventions on the basis of four exemplary topics and their effects on academic learning and achievement: student's academic self-concept, (cyber-)bullying, reading skills/dyslexia and a growth mindset intervention. Summaries of the four empirical contributions in this special issue are presented and discussed in relation to how they provide insight into the dynamic interplay between neural mechanisms and environmental influences, underscoring the role of early experiences in sculpting brain development and shaping educational outcomes. Furthermore, the integration of neuroscientific techniques (e.g., fMRI, eye-tracking) with educational research methodologies has provided novel insights into the neural correlates of learning processes, executive functions and socio-emotional development during childhood.
CONCLUSIONS
In conclusion, the pivotal role of Educational Neuroscience in bridging the gap between neuroscience and education is highlighted. By elucidating the neurobiological foundations of learning, this interdisciplinary field offers valuable insights for informing evidence-based educational practices and interventions tailored to individual learning profiles. Moving forward, continued collaboration between researchers, educators and policymakers is essential to harnessing the full potential of Educational Neuroscience in promoting cognitive growth and academic success across diverse learner populations.
