BACKGROUND
Autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) associated with solid tumors such as mature cystic teratomas is rare and poorly understood. Here, we report a successfully treated case of secondary AIHA in a mature cystic teratoma containing antibodies against red blood cells. . A 22-year-old woman was referred to our hospital with progressive anemia. Laboratory findings revealed hemolysis with a positive direct and indirect antiglobulin test. Imaging studies identified a left ovarian mass, suspected to be a mature cystic teratoma, which was later confirmed by histopathology after laparoscopic oophorocystectomy. The patient was treated with prednisolone, resulting in improved anemia. To examine the relationship between the tumor and AIHA, an indirect antiglobulin test was performed on the tumor contents. Stronger aggregations were observed at any concentration diluted by 10 times from 10 to 10,000 times of the tumor contents compared to the patient's serum. Additionally, immunofixation electrophoresis of the tumor contents revealed the presence of monoclonal immunoglobulin G-.
CONCLUSION
The presence of monoclonal IgG- in the tumor suggests intratumoral antibody production as a possible mechanism. Further research is necessary to elucidate the pathogenic relationship between such tumors and AIHA. The report also highlights the importance of considering secondary AIHA in patients with unexplained anemia and solid tumors.

Ovarian mature teratomas (OMTs) originate from post-meiotic germ cells. Malignant transformation occurs in approximately 1-2% of OMTs; however, sebaceous carcinoma arising from OMTs is rare. This is the first report of a detailed genomic analysis of sebaceous carcinoma arising from an OMT. A 36-year-old woman underwent evaluation for abdominal tumors and subsequent hysterectomy and salpingo-oophorectomy. Pathologically, a diagnosis of stage IA sebaceous carcinoma arising from an OMT was established. Eight months post-surgery, the patient was alive without recurrence. Immunohistochemically, the tumor was negative for mismatch repair proteins. A nonsense mutation in (p.R306*) and a deletion in were identified. Single nucleotide polymorphisms across all chromosomes displayed a high degree of homozygosity, suggestive of uniparental disomy. Herein, the OMT resulting from the endoreduplication of oocytes underwent a malignant transformation to sebaceous carcinoma via as an early event and as a late event.

BACKGROUND
Mature cystic teratomas (MCT) of the ovary are benign ovarian germ cell neoplasms. Malignant transformation is possible but rare and ovarian carcinoid tumors in MCT are among the most extremely rare subtypes.
CASE PRESENTATION
We report a case of a 60-year-old Iranian woman suffering from postmenopausal bleeding and hypogastric pain for the last 40 days. An adnexal mass was detected during the physical examination. Ultrasound imaging showed a (55 × 58) mm mass in the left ovary. Total abdominal hysterectomy, bilateral salpingooophorectomy and comprehensive staging surgery were performed for the patient. Intraoperative frozen section of the left ovarian mass was indicative of a malignant tumor. She was diagnosed with a carcinoid tumor with benign mucinous cystadenoma arising on MCT of the ovary, confirmed in the histopathology and immunohistochemistry examination. The tumor was classified as low grade and no chemotherapy cycles were considered. The patient was followed up long-term and no recurrence was observed during 14 months of examinations.
CONCLUSION
Ovarian carcinoids arising from MCT are rare neuroendocrine neoplasms, and proper diagnosis of these tumors requires careful histopathology evaluation and appropriate examination. Therefore, it is necessary to consider these tumors as a possible differential diagnosis and evaluate them in individuals (especially postmenopausal women) who have abdominal pain or abnormal bleeding and a palpable mass.

18F-fluoro-2-deoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) is a diagnostic tool widely used in adult oncology and some pediatric oncological settings. There are no established recommendations for the use of this imaging modality in pediatric malignant germ cell tumors (mGCT), however. Our aim is to evaluate the role of 18F-FDG PET/CT in the restaging of mGCT after chemotherapy in children and adolescents.
METHODS
We retrospectively reviewed patients with mGCT treated in Associazione Italiana Ematologia Oncologia Pediatrica (AIEOP) centers who underwent 18F-FDG PET/CT between 2011 and 2021.
RESULTS
Seventeen patients (median age 13 y) were included in the study. In 14 patients, 18F-FDG PET/CT was performed at diagnosis; 12 showed pathologic uptake. The 2 18F-FDG PET/CT negative cases were histologically defined as yolk sac tumor (YST) and mixed (chorioncarcinoma, YST). Nine of the 12 patients who had pathologic 18F-FDG PET/CT at diagnosis repeated the examination after neoadjuvant chemotherapy, before, second look surgery. In 5 cases, no pathologic uptake was evident. Histology showed necrosis alone in 4 cases and necrosis and mature teratoma in 1. In 3 of the 6 cases with pathologic uptake (2 of 6 patients did not perform the examination at diagnosis), histology showed persistence of malignant component, whereas in the remaining 3 cases, necrosis and mature teratoma were present.
CONCLUSION
In our review of a series of children with mGCT, 18F-FDG PET/CT after neoadjuvant chemotherapy showed 1 of 5 false negatives and was unable to discriminate between residual malignant component and mature teratoma.

Fetus in fetu is a rare congenital anomaly in which a malformed parasitic twin is found within the body of a living child or adult. In this case report, a 1-day-old child presented with a large firm abdominal mass on the left side of the upper abdomen. Imaging studies misdiagnosed the mass as an intraperitoneal benign dermoid cyst displacing the bowel loops and internal viscera. A surgical resection was performed on 21 days of life, and pathology confirmed eight fetuses inside the cyst.

Mammalian germ cells are derived from primordial germ cells (PGCs) and ensure species continuity through generations. Unlike irreversible committed mature germ cells, migratory PGCs exhibit a latent pluripotency characterized by the ability to derive embryonic germ cells (EGCs) and form teratoma. Here, we show that inhibition of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) by chemical compounds in mouse migratory PGCs enables derivation of chemically induced Embryonic Germ-like Cells (cEGLCs) that do not require conventional growth factors like LIF and FGF2/Activin-A, and possess unique naïve pluripotent-like characteristics with epiblast features and chimera formation potential. Furthermore, cEGLCs are regulated by a unique PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, distinct from conventional naïve pluripotent stem cells described previously. Consistent with this notion, we show by performing analysis that inhibition of p38 MAPK in organ culture supports the survival and proliferation of PGCs and also potentially reprograms PGCs to acquire indefinite proliferative capabilities, marking these cells as putative teratoma-producing cells. These findings highlight the utility of our model in mimicking teratoma formation, thereby providing valuable insights into the cellular mechanisms underlying tumorigenesis. Taken together, our research underscores a key role of p38 MAPK in germ cell development, maintaining proper cell fate by preventing unscheduled pluripotency and teratoma formation with a balance between proliferation and differentiation.

An infratentorial abscess is a medical emergency. Common sources of abscesses are otogenic foci, sinusitis, or dental abscess, rarely congenital defects like dermoid cysts with sinus along with cerebrospinal axis can lead to infratentorial abscess. This case report describes a four-year-old girl with pus discharging from the occipital area. Radiological imaging revealed a cerebellar abscess with the sinus tract open exteriorly through an occipital cortical defect with obstructive hydrocephalus. The patient underwent neurosurgical intervention followed by antibiotic therapy. Histopathology of the tissue sample was suggestive of a dermoid cyst. Congenital defects should not be ignored. All newborns should have a thorough physical examination to identify birth defects. As these defects can cause life-threatening complications, early recognition with early surgical intervention is the treatment of choice.

Amplifications of EVX2 and HOXD9-HOXD13 on 2q31 in mature cystic teratomas of the ovary identified by array comparative genomic hybridization may explain teratoma characteristics in chondrogenesis and osteogenesis.
BACKGROUND
Teratomas are a common type of germ cell tumor. However, only a few reports on their genomic constitution have been published. The study of teratomas may provide a better understanding of their stepwise differentiation processes and molecular bases, which could prove useful for the development of tissue-engineering technologies.
METHODS
In the present study, we analyzed the copy number aberrations of nine ovarian mature cystic teratomas using array comparative genomic hybridization in an attempt to reveal their genomic aberrations.
RESULTS
The many chromosomal aberrations observed on array comparative genomic hybridization analysis reveal the complex genetics of this tumor. Amplifications and deletions of large DNA fragments were observed in some samples, while amplifications of EVX2 and HOXD9-HOXD13 on 2q31.1, NDUFV1 on 11q13.2, and RPL10, SNORA70, DNASE1L1, TAZ, ATP6AP1, and GDI1 on Xq28 were found in all nine mature cystic teratomas.
CONCLUSIONS
Our results indicated that amplifications of these genes may play an important etiological role in teratoma formation. Moreover, amplifications of EVX2 and HOXD9-HOXD13 on 2q31.1, found on array comparative genomic hybridization, may help to explain the characteristics of teratomas in chondrogenesis and osteogenesis.

This study examined the applicability of indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence imaging to assist the laparoscopic resection of retroperitoneal tumors in pediatric patients via an abdominal approach. Conducted prospectively at the Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center from May to September 2023, the research included three pediatric cases, for whom laparoscopic retroperitoneal tumor resections were performed utilizing ICG fluorescence imaging. In each case, ICG was intravenously administered (0.3 mg/kg) prior to surgery, enabling the visualization of vital vascular structures through real-time fluorescence imaging. The trocar's placement was guided by a "four-hole" technique from the healthy side in a 70-degree lateral decubitus position. The operations were accomplished successfully without any complications. Pathological analysis of the patients identified one case of Wilms tumor of the embryonal type, one ganglioneuroblastoma of the mature type without N-MYC gene amplification, and one mature cystic teratoma. The findings suggest that with careful patient selection and skilled surgical execution, the utilization of ICG fluorescence imaging in the laparoscopic resection of retroperitoneal tumors is both safe and effective in children. This approach significantly improves the visualization of critical blood vessels, thus enhancing surgical safety.

Congenital facial teratomas in neonates pose diagnostic challenges, necessitating a multidisciplinary approach for accurate diagnosis and management. We present the case of a four-day-old female infant delivered via Lower Segment Cesarean Section (LSCS) with a protruding nasolabial mass noted since birth. CT brain plain revealed a soft tissue density opacification arising from the left maxilla with an underlying bony outgrowth, suggestive of a benign congenital developmental anomaly most likely teratoma. Further evaluation is warranted to delineate the exact nature and extent of the anomaly. This case underscores the importance of meticulous evaluation and interdisciplinary collaboration in managing congenital anomalies, with surgical intervention potentially required based on individual patient factors. Continued research and collaboration among medical specialities are essential to improve understanding and management strategies for congenital facial teratomas.
