BACKGROUND
Heart failure (HF) brings not only physical pain but also psychological distress. This systematic review investigated the influence of spiritual care on the psychological well-being and quality of life in adults with HF.
METHODS
We conducted a systematic literature review following PRISMA guidelines, searching seven electronic databases for relevant randomized controlled studies without language or temporal restrictions. The studies were assessed for quality using the Cochrane Bias Risk tool.
RESULTS
A total of 13 studies (882 participants) were reviewed, investigating interventions such as religion, meditation, mental health, cognitive interventions, and spiritual support. Key factors influencing the effectiveness of spiritual care implementation included integration into routine care, respect for diversity, patient engagement, intervention quality, and alignment with patient beliefs. The majority of the studies indicated that spiritual care has a potentially beneficial impact on the mental health and quality of life of patients with HF.
CONCLUSION
The findings provide valuable insights for healthcare professionals, highlighting the importance of adopting a spiritual care approach to healthcare for this population.

Loving-kindness meditations involve sending feelings of kindness and care to a series of people including oneself, loved ones, strangers, and all beings. Loving-kindness interventions (LKIs), which include knowledge and/or practice related to loving-kindness, have been gaining attention as a potential intervention for improving mental health in adults. This meta-analysis synthesized the effects of LKIs on both positive (i.e., mindfulness, compassion, positive affect) and negative (i.e., negative affect, psychological symptoms) indices of mental health across comparison types (i.e., passive control, active control, alternative treatment) and general sample types (i.e., community, university), and explored characteristics of LKIs that may impact their effectiveness (i.e., intervention format, intervention length, presence/absence of a live facilitator). Following a systematic review of six databases in November 2023, 23 randomized controlled studies met eligibility criteria and were included in the review. Relative to passive control groups, LKIs had positive effects on mindfulness, compassion, positive affect, negative affect, and psychological symptoms; these effects were non-significant relative to active control groups and alternative therapeutic treatments. Notably, the effects of LKIs did not differ as a function of sample type, intervention format, intervention length, or the presence/absence of a live facilitator. Findings provide support for the effectiveness of LKIs relative to passive control conditions, as well as their potential comparability to alternative evidence-based therapeutic treatments, and provide insight into resource-effective approaches to the delivery of effective LKIs. However, additional studies are needed to confirm the impacts of LKIs relative to other interventions in the field.

BACKGROUND
A nature-based social prescription (NBSP) is an approach to improving mental health outcomes that involves prescribing nature-based interventions as complementary or alternative therapy to traditional ones. A variety of advantages are available from NBSP for people looking to enhance their mental well-being. The effect size of the nature-based social prescriptions (NBSPs) has not been thoroughly evaluated by systematic reviews and meta-analyses.
OBJECTIVES
The current study aimed to analyze existing studies and conduct a meta-analysis to determine the overall effect size of the nature-based social prescriptions (NBSP's) outcomes on mental health.
METHODS
By choosing the relevant papers from among those that were available, a meta-analysis was carried out in the current study. A systematic search of electronic databases (Pub Med, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library, Embase, CINAHL, and PsychINFO) was conducted to identify relevant studies. Studies were included if they evaluated the effects of NBSP on mental health outcomes. Effect sizes were calculated using the random effects model.
RESULTS
Meta-analysis of interventions statistics shows that CBT (SMD -0.0035; 95% CI: [-0.5090; 0.5020]; Tau^2: 0.1011; Tau: 0.318), digital intervention (SMD -0.3654; 95% CI: [-0.5258; 1.2566]; Tau^2: 0.2976, Tau: 0.5455), music intervention (SMD -2.1281; 95% CI: [-0.4659; 4.7221]; Tau^2: 3.4046; Tau:1.8452), and psychological interventions (SMD -0.8529; 95% CI: [0.3051; 1.4007]; Tau^2: 0.1224; Tau: 0.3499) do not significantly impact. The other interventions [social belongingness, communication training, blue intervention, nature-based education, cognitive behavior group therapy (CBGT), social prescribing coordinator, self-help intervention, participatory, organizational intervention, inpatient services, brief diet, internet-based intervention, prenatal intervention, yoga and meditation, ergonomics training program, yoga nidra intervention, and storytelling] highlighted above are significant.
CONCLUSION
The conclusion of the meta-analysis supports the idea that incorporating nature-based social prescription interventions into mental healthcare plans can effectively complement traditional therapies and improve mental health outcomes.

Several recent studies have explored the relationships between mindfulness and time perception, an area of research that has become increasingly popular in the last 10-15 years. In this article, we present a systematic integrative review of the evidence on this subject. We also integrate the field's findings into a conceptual framework which considers the multifaceted nature of both mindfulness, and time perception research. To identify the relevant literature, we searched the following databases using relevant keywords: PsycINFO; Medline; EBSCO Host Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection; and Web of Science. These searches were last performed on the 4th of May 2022, and additional hand searches were also conducted. To be included, articles had to be in English and contain original data about the potential relationship(s) between mindfulness and time perception. Articles which did not present usable data about the relationship(s) between the variables of interest were excluded. In total, 47 research articles were included in the review (combined sample size of ∼5800 participants). Risks of bias in the selected studies were evaluated using two separate assessment tools designed for this purpose. Through an integrative narrative synthesis, this article reviews how mindfulness may relate to time perception for various reference frames, and for various time perception measures and methods. It also provides new insights by exploring how a wide range of findings can be integrated into a coherent whole, in light of some relevant time perception models and mindfulness theories. Altogether, the reviewed data suggest the existence of complex and multifaceted relationships between mindfulness and time perception, highlighting the importance of considering many factors when planning research or interpreting data in this field. Limitations of the current review include the scarceness of data for certain categories of findings, and the relatively low prevalence of studies with a randomized controlled design in the source literature. Traditional interventions aiming to improve students' mental health and quality of life include meditation or canine therapy. The development of physical activity-related interventions has increased over the past decade. We aimed to review all studies using physical activity for improving the mental health and quality of life in higher education students whilst describing the interventions, measurements and effectiveness. A systematic search of six electronic databases including: ProQuest, MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, SPORTDiscus and CENTRAL, was conducted following PRISMA guidelines. Randomized or non-randomized controlled trial physical activity-related interventions involving higher education students aiming to improve their mental health and quality of life were included. Searches yielded 58 articles with interventions involving martial arts, sport, mind-body exercises and anaerobic exercises. Psychological measures varied across studies including the State Trait Anxiety Inventory, Beck Depression Inventory and the Perceived Stress Scale. Over half of the studies included in this review (n = 36) were effective in improving students' mental health or quality of life. Findings from our review suggest that interventions aiming to be effective in improving students' mental health quality of life should aim to deliver moderate-vigorous intensity exercises such as dance or Pilates. This systematic review was based on a published protocol in PROSPERO (registration number: CRD42022325975).

This review aims to delineate the potential impact of static meditation practice on cholesterol and triglyceride levels. PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar were systematically screened up until December 2023 to identify pertinent studies. After searching the scientific literature, 16 clinical studies (11 trials and 5 observational experiments) met the criteria for inclusion, involving a total of 1147 participants. In general, Ayurvedic-based meditation techniques were predominantly associated with lower total cholesterol levels, mindfulness-based techniques demonstrated benefits in both total cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and Eastern meditation techniques with spiritual origins were primarily linked to improved serum concentrations of HDL cholesterol. Study participants mostly engaged in meditation on a daily basis, often practicing it once or even twice a day, spanning a duration ranging from a few weeks to several months. The meta-analysis shows an association between meditation practice in healthy or sub-healthy adults and reduced cholesterol levels, with an average decrease of approximately -14 mg/dL (MD = -13.91 [-23.35; -4.47] mg/dL; = 0.02), alongside favorable and even more pronounced impacts on triglyceride levels (MD = -32.56 [-48.44; -16.68] mg/dL; < 0.01). In summary, regular engagement in static meditation practices can be associated with lower triglyceride and, to a lesser extent, cholesterol levels. Further studies on the topic are recommended to better investigate the relationship between meditation practice and physiological parameters.

Evidence from clinical trials has shown positive effects of yoga on hypothyroidism. To date, there is no review of these studies. This systematic review evaluates the efficacy of yoga as a therapeutic intervention for hypothyroidism. PubMed, Medline, PsycINFO, and Science Direct databases were searched to identify relevant literature. The review included clinical studies that evaluated the effects of yoga on hypothyroidism. Studies that were not conducted inenglish, unavailable, non-experimental, or those that were reviews, case studies, case reports, not based on yoga, involved yoga as a intervention, or included a mixed population were excluded. Eleven studies (n = 516) met the eligibility criteria. Of these, four studies were RCTs, two non-RCTs and five were pretest-posttest studies. The duration of the yoga intervention varied from 1 to 6 months. Most of these studies adopted a combination of suryanamaskar, asana, pranayama and meditation. On quality assessment, one study had a low risk of bias (1 RCT), six studies had a moderate risk of bias (3 RCTs, one non-RCT and two pretest-posttest studies), and four studies had a high risk of bias (1 non-RCT and three pretest-posttest studies). The outcome measures assessed were TSH, T3, T4, and thyroid medication usage, lipid indices, BMI, heart rate variability, pulmonary measures, blood glucose, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, quality of life and sleep. The majority of the studies reported significant improvements in these outcomes following yoga intervention. This systematic review reports evidence for effects of yoga on various outcome measures in hypothyroidism, suggesting its possible role in the management of hypothyroidism. However, there is a need for adequately powered, high-quality RCT studies in the future to draw a definitive conclusion.

Mindfulness has been practiced by global leaders and companies as an efficient way to build effective leadership. Because of its popularity, plus the lack of a comprehensive theoretical framework that explains it in a leadership context, the research literature has called for a coherent account of the qualities that is derived by those leaders that practice mindfulness. Here, we aim to answer that call, by clarifying . We report on a semi-systematic literature review of extant research, covering 19 research articles published between 2000 and 2021, plus other relevant supporting literature from the disciplines of leadership and neuropsychology. Our proposed framework consists of three main qualities of the mindful leader: attention, awareness, and authenticity. We call them the "three pillars of mindful leaders." We also propose that mindfulness meditation must be integrated into our proposed framework, as we are convinced that leaders who hope to benefit from these qualities must integrate a regular mindfulness meditation practice into their daily leadership life.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common yet debilitating and chronic condition that consists of disturbances in bowel habits and abdominal pain that is frequently relieved with defecation. While the first line of treatment for IBS is pharmacological treatment, this has been shown to fail, leading to the patient being classified as having refractory IBS. The quality of life (QOL) of these patients is greatly hindered; in this case, there are rarely moments of relief. Additional modalities of treatment have been employed in classical cases of IBS, such as psychotherapy, and research has started to evaluate its effectiveness with refractory IBS. Both cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and gut-directed hypnotherapy (GDH) are effective in treating classical IBS as they restructure and bring a state of meditation to the patient, allowing them to work through the symptoms. The question is whether it remains successful in refractory cases. This systematic review was conducted with strict adherence to PRISMA guidelines with an initial inquiry resulting in 28,978 publications through PubMed, ScienceDirect, and ProQuest databases. Through automatic and manual screening processes, articles that were peer-reviewed experimental or observation publications done between 2003 and 2023 were included in this study, resulting in 21 publications. Across all studies evaluating CBT, it was consistently found to be successful in improving symptom severity and frequency, QOL, and extracolonic symptoms such as anxiety and depression. When broken down into delivery methods, minimal contact CBT was found to be just as, if not superior, to standard contact. Within this, telephone-delivered CBT was superior to web-delivered CBT. GDH and biofeedback therapy were found to also significantly improve all domains of IBS with no difference between them. Acceptance and commitment therapy were found only to improve associated symptoms. However, there was no significant improvement in their QOL, whereas integrative group therapy found no significant improvement in any domain. Because IBS is so common and crippling to those affected, its crucial to continuously improve QOL through advancement in treatment modalities. Further research should focus more on other modes of therapy as success has been shown in standard therapeutic techniques.

INTRODUCTION
Wim Hof, also known as the iceman, developed a method called Wim Hof Method (WHM) which he claims to have several benefits on physical and mental health. The aim of this systematic review is to identify and synthesise the results of the studies conducted on WHM on physiological and psychological health-related outcomes.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
This systematic review followed the PRISMA guidelines for systematic reviews. The protocol was registered in the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO), registration number CRD42022333209. Medline and Web of Science were searched and included studies from January 1, 2014, to July 4, 2022. Studies were included if they met the predetermined inclusion/exclusion criteria. Inclusion criteria included RCTs and cohort studies published in peer-reviewed journals, studies conducted on healthy individuals and people with pre-existing medical conditions (adolescents and adults over the age of 14), studies that included all three pillars (breathing, cold exposure, and commitment) of the WHM, and studies that only focused on Wim Hof breathing method (WHBM). Exclusion criteria included studies that discussed WHM but are not original experimental research or are not peer-reviewed, studies that included children under the age of 14, and studies that used methods similar to WHM, but not actually WHM, such as tummo meditation. The articles were assessed for risk of bias using RoB 2.0 and Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) tools. The effects of WHM were categorised into physiological or psychological related outcomes and narrative synthesis was conducted.
RESULTS
Nine papers were included in this review which consisted of eight individual trials. The findings suggest that the WHM may reduce inflammation in healthy and non-healthy participants as it increases epinephrine levels, causing an increase in interleukin-10 and a decrease in pro-inflammatory cytokines. Additionally, effect of WHBM on exercise performance showed mixed findings. Effects on respiratory parameters of minute ventilation, tidal volume, and breathing frequency were mixed following bouts of exercise.
CONCLUSION
Taken together, the findings of this review show promising use of WHM in the inflammatory response category. The focus of future studies should further investigate the benefits of WHM in non-healthy participants with inflammatory disorders and explore the use of Wim Hof breathing method to enhance exercise performance.
