Recently, contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) has become a promising tool in distinguishing benign from malignant parotid gland tumors. However, its usefulness in differentiating various benign parotid tumors has not been determined so far. This study aimed to systematically review the literature to determine the utility of CEUS in the preoperative differentiation between pleomorphic adenomas (PAs) and Warthin's tumors (WTs) of the parotid gland. PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane were searched for English-language articles published until 21 July 2022. Fifteen studies were included. On CEUS examination, a significantly greater percentage of PAs displayed heterogeneous enhancement texture compared to WTs. Contrarily, the enhanced lesion size, the enhancement margin, and the presence of the enhancement rim did not differ significantly between the entities. Significantly longer normalized mean transit time (nMTT) and time to peak (TTP) were observed in PAs. Contrarily, the mean values of area under the curve (AUC) and time from peak to one half (TPH) were significantly higher for WTs. Due to the considerable overlap among the qualitative CEUS characteristics of PAs and WTs, the reproducible, investigator-independent quantitative CEUS measurements have a greater potential to distinguish PAs from WTs, which might influence the selection of an appropriate management strategy.

: Radiomics of salivary gland imaging can support clinical decisions in different clinical scenarios, such as tumors, radiation-induced xerostomia and sialadenitis. This review aims to evaluate the methodological quality of radiomics studies on salivary gland imaging. : A systematic search was performed, and the methodological quality was evaluated using the radiomics quality score (RQS). Subgroup analyses according to the first author's professional role (medical or not medical), journal type (radiological journal or other) and the year of publication (2021 or before) were performed. The correlation of RQS with the number of patients was calculated. : Twenty-three articles were included (mean RQS 11.34 ± 3.68). Most studies well-documented the imaging protocol (87%), while neither prospective validations nor cost-effectiveness analyses were performed. None of the included studies provided open-source data. A statistically significant difference in RQS according to the year of publication was found ( = 0.009), with papers published in 2021 having slightly higher RQSs than older ones. No differences according to journal type or the first author's professional role were demonstrated. A moderate relationship between the overall RQS and the number of patients was found. : Radiomics application in salivary gland imaging is increasing. Although its current clinical applicability can be affected by the somewhat inadequate quality of the papers, a significant improvement in radiomics methodologies has been demonstrated in the last year.

Lymph Node Involvement and the Clinical Stage as Predictors of the Survival of Patients With Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma of the Head and Neck: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
In the treatment of various patients, the presence of lymphovascular invasion is a prognostic determinant, often taken into account by surgeons and oncologists. The exact frequency and prognostic impacts of this microscopic event in adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) patients are, however, not clear. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to investigate the lymph node involvement and the clinical stage of cancer as predictors of ACC prognosis. A systematic search was conducted covering a number of databases, including PubMed, Science Direct, Google Scholar, Web of Science, and EBSCO. A total of three studies were included in this analysis, with 591 participants, 247 of whom were males. Lymph node involvement and clinical stage were demonstrated as significant bad prognosis factors among ACC patients (HR = 1.48, 95% CI, 1.00, 1.96; P<0.0001). We found that lymph node involvement and clinical stage of the cancer are both significant predictors of bad prognosis of ACC.

INTRODUCTION
Post-paralytic facial synkinesis after facial nerve injury produces functional disabilities and mimetic deficits, but also cosmetic and non-motor psychosocial impairments for the patients. These patients typically have a high and continuous high motivation for rehabilitation. The aim is to inform the affected patients and their therapeutic professionals (otorhinolaryngologist - head and neck surgeons; oral-maxillofacial surgeons, plastic and reconstructive surgeons, neurosurgeons, neurologists, and mime therapists be it speech and language therapy- or physiotherapy-based) and to provide practical recommendations for diagnostics and a stepwise systematic treatment approach of facial synkinesis.
METHODS
In the first phase, a systematic literature search on the topic in PubMed and ScienceDirect starting in 2008 resulted in 132 articles. These were the basis for the review and a comprehensive series of consensus statements on the most important diagnostic tests and treatment options. In the second phase, one consensus article circulated among the membership of the International Head and Neck Scientific Group until a final agreement was reached for all recommendations.
RESULTS
Diagnostics should include a standardized assessment of the degree of synkinesis using validated clinician-graded instruments and synkinesis-specific patient-reported outcome measures. Treatments for facial synkinesis include facial training mainly based on facial biofeedback retraining, chemodenervation with botulinum toxin, selective neurectomy, myectomy, and any combination treatment of these options.
CONCLUSION
A basic understanding of the pathomechanisms of synkinesis is essential to understand the treatment strategies. A standardized assessment of the synkinetic symptoms and the individual synkinesis pattern is needed. The first-line treatment is facial training, followed by botulinum toxin. Surgery is reserved for individual cases with unsatisfactory first-line treatment.

BACKGROUND
Lung cancer metastasis to oral region is very rare. Studies have been published analysing the cases of metastatic tumours to the oral cavity by many researchers. But very few research work has been conducted till date to analyse only the oral soft tissue metastasis from Lung cancer as the primary source. The goal of this study was to examine published cases of oral soft tissue metastasis from lung cancer as the only primary source from 1st August 1977 to 31st December 2021.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
An electronic search of the published English literature was performed in PubMed/ Medline, Scopus, Google Scholar, and Research gate databases, using keywords like 'Lung cancer', OR/ AND 'Lung carcinoma' OR/ AND 'Oral cavity', OR/AND 'Metastasis', OR/AND 'Primary', OR/AND 'Source', OR/AND 'Initial', OR/AND 'Tongue', OR/AND 'Palate', OR/ AND 'Tonsil', OR/AND 'Lip', OR/AND 'Buccal mucosa', OR/AND 'Floor of mouth', OR/AND 'Salivary glands', OR/ AND 'Parotid', OR/ AND 'Submandibular', OR/ AND 'Sublingual' OR/ AND 'Mandible', OR/AND 'Maxilla. We also searched all related journals manually. Reference list of all articles was also checked.
RESULTS
Our research revealed total 122 patients. The most prevalent diagnosed metastatic lung cancer was adenocarcinoma. Gingiva, tongue and tonsils were the most common site of metastasis. 54% patients died of metastasis with a survival time of 1 week to 2.5 years.
CONCLUSIONS
Oral soft tissue metastasis from lung cancer has a bad prognosis. More cases need to be published in order to raise awareness of these lesions and gain a better understanding of their characteristics. Lung cancer, metastasis, oral, primary, soft tissues.

PURPOSE
The clinical practice of elastosonography for the detection of salivary gland tumors is still a controversial issue. The objective of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the effect of elastosonography for the diagnosis of salivary gland tumors and to compare the diagnostic value of elastosonography and conventional ultrasound in the diagnosis of salivary gland tumors.
METHODS
A comprehensive literature search through PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library was carried out from inception to November 2021. Two researchers independently extracted the data from the enrolled papers using a standard data extraction form. The pooled sensitivity, specificity, positive likelihood ratio (PLR), negative likelihood ratio (NLR), diagnostic odds ratio (DOR), and area under the curve (AUC) were calculated to evaluate the diagnostic performance of elastosonography. The Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies-2 (QUADAS-2) tool was utilized to evaluate the quality of each included study. Meta-DiSc version 1.4, Review Manager 5.3, and StataSE 15 were used.
RESULTS
Sixteen studies with a total of 1105 patients with 1146 lesions were included in this meta-analysis. The pooled sensitivity, specificity, PLR, NLR, and DOR of elastosonography for the differentiation between benign and malignant salivary gland tumors were 0.73 (95%CI, 0.66-0.78), 0.64 (95%CI, 0.61-0.67), 2.83 (95%CI, 1.97-4.07), 0.45 (95%CI, 0.32-0.62), and 9.86 (95%CI, 4.49-21.62), respectively, with an AUC of 0.82. Four studies provided data regarding the conventional ultrasound for the differentiation between benign and malignant salivary gland tumors. The pooled sensitivity, specificity, and DOR were 0.62 (95%CI, 0.50-0.73), 0.93 (95%CI, 0.90-0.96), and 25.07 (95%CI, 4.28-146.65), respectively. The meta-regression and subgroup analyses found that assessment methods were associated with significant heterogeneity, and quantitative or semiquantitative elastosonography performed better than the qualitative one.
CONCLUSIONS
Elastosonography showed a limited value for diagnosing malignant salivary gland tumors; it could be considered as a supplementary diagnostic technology to conventional ultrasound, and quantitative or semiquantitative elastosonography was superior to the qualitative one.

Primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) is a systemic autoimmune disease characterized by exocrine gland dysfunction and inflammation. Patients often have dry mouth and dry eye symptoms, which seriously affect their lives. Improving dry mouth and eye symptoms has become a common demand from patients. For this reason, researchers have conducted many studies on external secretory glands. In this paper, we summarize recent studies on the salivary glands of pSS patients from the perspective of the immune microenvironment. These studies showed that hypoxia, senescence, and chronic inflammation are the essential characteristics of the salivary gland immune microenvironment. In the SG of pSS, genes related to lymphocyte chemotaxis, antigen presentation, and lymphocyte activation are upregulated. Interferon (IFN)-related genes, DNA methylation, sRNA downregulation, and mitochondrial-related differentially expressed genes are also involved in forming the immune microenvironment of pSS, while multiple signaling pathways are involved in regulation. We further elucidated the regulation of the salivary gland immune microenvironment in pSS and relevant, targeted treatments.

Single-nucleotide variants in or -involving copy-number variant deletions have been reported in families with lacrimo-auriculo-dento-digital syndrome, aplasia of the lacrimal and salivary glands, or lethal lung developmental disorders. Abnormalities involving have also been implicated in cleft lip and palate, myopia, or congenital heart disease. However, the exact developmental role of and large phenotypic heterogeneity associated with disruption remain incompletely understood. Here, we review human and animal studies and summarize the data on mechanism of action, expression, multi-organ function, as well as its variants and their usefulness for clinicians and researchers.

INTRODUCTION
Salivary gland dysfunction (e.g., sialadenitis and xerostomia) is the most common complication of radioactive iodine (RAI) therapy for differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). Several methods have been used to reduce/prevent this adverse effect. We aimed to systematically review the effectiveness of non-pharmacological and pharmacological interventions in preventing RAI-induced salivary gland dysfunction in patients with DTC.
METHODS
A systematic review was conducted, according to PRISMA guidelines. The protocol was registered (PROSPERO: CRD42022295229). PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and the Cochrane Library electronic databases were searched from inception to November 2021. Inclusion criteria were randomized controlled trials of DTC patients who were older than 18 years and underwent RAI after thyroidectomy in which at least one studied group received an intervention to prevent salivary gland dysfunction.
RESULTS
Twelve studies (a total of 667 participants) were included. Among DTC patients who were treated with RAI, nonpharmacological treatment such as parotid gland massage and aromatherapy ameliorated salivary gland dysfunction. Antioxidants such as vitamin E and selenium demonstrated radioprotective effects on the salivary gland, while other antioxidants did not show radioprotective benefits. Vitamin C showed no significant effects on preventing salivary gland dysfunction. Amifostine had inconsistent outcomes among studies. Among cholinergic agonists, pilocarpine did not demonstrate the radioprotective effect on parotid glands, while bethanechol lowered salivary gland dysfunction. However, the negative results from pilocarpine may be explained by the strong sialorrheic effect of the Cincinnati regimen in both study arms.
CONCLUSION
Among non-pharmacological and pharmacological methods, parotid gland massage, aromatherapy, vitamin E, selenium, amifostine, and bethanechol may have benefits in minimizing RAI-induced salivary gland dysfunction in patients with DTC. The results are limited by a small number of patients and should be confirmed in future larger randomized controlled trials.

DOG1 is a transmembrane protein originally discovered on gastrointestinal stromal tumors and works as a calcium-activated chloride channel protein. There are a limited number of articles on the potential utility of this antibody in the diagnosis of salivary gland tumors in routine practice. In this study, we aimed to investigate the role of DOG1 as an immunohistochemical marker in patients with salivary acinic cell carcinoma (ACC) through meta-analysis. A literature search was performed of the PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases for English-language studies published from January 2010 to September 2021. The literature search revealed 148 articles, of which 20 were included in the study. The overall rate of DOG1 expression in salivary acinic cell carcinoma was 55% (95% CI = 0.43-0.58). Although ACC is a challenging diagnosis, paying careful attention to the cytomorphological features in conjunction with DOG1 immunostaining can help to reach an accurate diagnosis.
