Beach variants of popular sports like soccer and handball have grown in participation over the last decade. However, the characterization of the workload demands in beach sports remains limited compared to their indoor equivalents. This systematic review aimed to: (1) characterize internal and external loads during beach invasion sports match-play; (2) identify technologies and metrics used for monitoring; (3) compare the demands of indoor sports; and (4) explore differences by competition level, age, sex, and beach sport. Fifteen studies ultimately met the inclusion criteria. The locomotive volumes averaged 929 ± 269 m (average) and 16.5 ± 3.3 km/h (peak) alongside 368 ± 103 accelerations and 8 ± 4 jumps per session. The impacts approached 700 per session. The heart rates reached 166-192 beats per minute (maximal) eliciting 60-95% intensity. The player load was 12.5 ± 2.9 to 125 ± 30 units. Males showed 10-15% higher external but equivalent internal loads versus females. Earlier studies relied solely on a time-motion analysis, while recent works integrate electronic performance and tracking systems, enabling a more holistic quantification. However, substantial metric intensity zone variability persists. Beach sports entail intermittent high-intensity activity with a lower-intensity recovery. Unstable surface likely explains the heightened internal strain despite moderately lower running volumes than indoor sports. The continued integration of technology together with the standardization of workload intensity zones is needed to inform a beach-specific training prescription.

Comparative Efficacy and Safety of Potassium-Competitive Acid Blockers vs. Proton Pump Inhibitors for Peptic Ulcer with or without Infection: A Systematic Review and Network Meta-Analysis.
Novel potassium-competitive acid blockers (P-CABs) have emerged as effective acid-suppressive drugs in recent years, replacing proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). We aim to compare the efficacy and safety of P-CABs versus PPIs in the treatment of peptic ulcers with or without () infection. We searched in PubMed, Embase, WOS, Cochrane Library, ClinicalTrials.gov, CNKI, and Wanfang databases (all years up to January 2024). Efficacy and safety outcomes were evaluated using odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). The Surface Under the Cumulative Ranking (SUCRA) probabilities were used to rank each intervention. Among 14,056 studies screened, 56 studies involving 9792 participants were analyzed. Vonoprazan demonstrated the best efficacy in ulcer healing rate and eradication rate (SUCRA = 86.4% and 90.7%, respectively). Keverprazan ranked second in ulcer healing rates (SUCRA = 76.0%) and was more effective in pain remission rates (SUCRA = 91.7%). The risk of adverse events was low for keverprazan (SUCRA = 11.8%) and tegoprazan (SUCRA = 12.9%), and moderate risk for vonoprazan (SUCRA = 44.3%) was demonstrated. Compared to lansoprazole, vonoprazan exhibited a higher risk of drug-related adverse events (OR: 2.15; 95% CI: 1.60-2.89) and serious adverse events (OR: 2.22; 95% CI: 1.11-4.42). Subgroup analysis on patients with -positive peptic ulcers showed that vonoprazan was at the top of the SUCRA rankings, followed by keverprazan. Vonoprazan showed superior performance in peptic ulcers, especially for patients with -positive peptic ulcers. However, the risk of adverse events associated with vonoprazan should be noted. Keverprazan has also shown good therapeutic outcomes and has performed better in terms of safety.

Cataracts are characterized by the crystalline lens of the eye becoming cloudy, and dry eye disease (DED) is a multifactorial disease in which the homeostasis of the tear film is lost. As the prevalence of both diseases increases with age, there is a high prevalence of DED among patients who are candidates for cataract surgery. In recent years, cataract surgery has evolved from vision restoration surgery to refractive surgery. To achieve good surgical outcomes, it is necessary to minimize postoperative refractive error in intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation, which requires accurate preoperative keratometry measurements. A stable tear film is important for the accuracy and reproducibility of keratometry measurements, and DED may have a deleterious effect. In this study, original articles that focused primarily on findings related to this topic were evaluated. A systematic review was performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Although appropriate DED diagnoses were not presented in the articles evaluated in this review, it was confirmed that the clinical signs of DED, particularly the shortening of the tear film break-up time (TBUT), negatively impact IOL power calculations. Improvement in these clinical signs might mitigate the negative effects on these calculations.

PURPOSE
Fixed restorations and dental enamel have different structures that produce different wear on opposing teeth, resulting in clinical problems. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the type of restoration that causes less wear on naturally opposing teeth to make recommendations. The objective of this study was to systematically analyze the evidence from observational studies and clinical trials on enamel wear in different ceramic restorations.
STUDY SELECTION
The designs of the included studies were randomized clinical trials (RTCs), non-randomized clinical trials (non-RTCs), and observational studies (OS). The studies must answer the research question, be available in full text, be written in English or Spanish, and have had at least six months of follow-up. Protocol number: CRD42023397759.
RESULTS
After screening 499 records, 20 RTCs were subjected to data extraction, 10 were excluded, 10 were included in the systematic review, and only 5 were included in the network meta-analysis. The risk of bias assessment reported moderate to high risk of bias, quality, and certainty of evidence was evaluated and rated as moderate. Network meta-analysis showed higher enamel wear was observed in natural dental enamel against metal-ceramic antagonists.
CONCLUSIONS
Enamel wear occurs in all teeth, even when the antagonist is a natural tooth. The wear is larger on surfaces with the ceramic crown antagonists studied (metal-ceramic, glazed zirconia, and polished zirconia). It is necessary to conduct additional clinical trials with larger follow-up periods and sample sizes.

Are Surface Electromyography Parameters Indicative of Post-Activation Potentiation/Post-Activation Performance Enhancement, in Terms of Twitch Potentiation and Voluntary Performance? A Systematic Review.
The aim was to identify if surface electromyography (sEMG) parameters are indicative of post-activation potentiation (PAP)/post-activation performance enhancement (PAPE), in terms of twitch potentiation and voluntary performance. Three databases were used in April 2024, with the following inclusion criteria: (a) original research, assessed in healthy human adults, and (b) sEMG parameters were measured. The exclusion criteria were (a) studies with no PAP/PAPE protocol and (b) non-randomized control trials. The following data were extracted: study characteristics/demographics, PAP/PAPE protocols, sEMG parameters, twitch/performance outcomes, and study findings. A modified physiotherapy evidence database (PEDro) scale was used for quality assessment. Fifteen randomized controlled trials (RCTs), with a total of 199 subjects, were included. The M-wave amplitude (combined with a twitch torque outcome) was shown to generally be indicative of PAP. The sEMG amplitudes (in some muscles) were found to be indicative of PAPE during ballistic movements, while a small decrease in the MdF (in certain muscles) was shown to reflect PAPE. Changes in the H/M ratio were found to contribute (temporally) to PAP, while the H-reflex amplitude was shown to be neither indicative of PAP nor PAPE. This review provides preliminary findings suggesting that certain sEMG parameters could be indicative of PAP/PAPE. However, due to limited studies, future research is warranted.

Survival Rates of Short Dental Implants (≤6 mm) Used as an Alternative to Longer (>6 mm) Implants for the Rehabilitation of Posterior Partial Edentulism: A Systematic Review of RCTs.
Short dental implants have been proposed as an alternative treatment option to bone regeneration procedures for the rehabilitation of resorbed alveolar ridges. The aim of this paper was to systematically review randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing short implants (≤6 mm) and longer implants (>6 mm) in atrophic alveolar ridges in terms of implant survival rates, peri-implant marginal bone loss (MBL), prevalence of peri-implantitis and technical complications. A thorough electronic search was performed until September 2023. RCTs with follow-up of at least 1-year post-loading comparing short implants with rough surfaces to longer implants in the posterior jaws of systemically and periodontally healthy, partially edentulous adults were considered. Studies with incomplete information on the number of patients, follow-up or definition of "short implants" were excluded. The revised Cochrane risk-of-bias tool for randomized trials was used for Risk of bias assessment. Fixed-effects meta-analysis of the selected studies was applied to compare the outcome variables. Random-effect meta-analysis was performed, on the basis of within-study comparisons. In total, 16 articles were selected for meta-analysis and incorporated 408 short implants and 475 longer implants inserted in 317 and 388 patients, respectively. The survival rates of longer implants in pristine or augmented bone were significantly increased compared to short implants (95%CI: 2-5%, < 0.001). Standard-length implants displayed increased, although non-statistically significant MBL (95%CI: -0.17-0.04, > 0.05), and prevalence of peri-implantitis (95%CI: 0-5%, > 0.05). No statistically significant differences were observed between short and long implants in terms of technical complications (implant-level 95%CI: -4-6%, > 0.05). Short implants represent a promising alternative treatment option for the rehabilitation of posterior jaws to avoid additional bone augmentation procedures. Nonetheless, they should be selected cautiously due to a potentially limited survival rate compared to longer implants. A major limitation of this study is the variability in the included studies regarding sample size, patient profile, type of bone, loading protocol, definition of peri-implantitis, among others. Dry eye disease frequently manifests following corneal refractive procedures, significantly impacting patients' quality of life. This review systematically synthesizes current evidence on the pathophysiological mechanisms, risk factors, and therapeutic interventions for post-refractive surgery dry eye. Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, a systematic review of literature published until August 2023 was conducted, focusing on post-refractive surgery dry eye. Eighteen relevant studies were identified through screening and eligibility assessment. A qualitative synthesis of outcomes was performed using narrative and thematic analysis methods. Surgically induced neurotrophic deficiency, stemming from nerve transection, triggers a cascade of events including apoptosis, inflammation, and lacrimal dysfunction, ultimately leading to tear film instability. Risk factors such as female gender, thyroid eye disease, meibomian gland dysfunction, higher ablation depths, and the use of LASIK over surface ablation exacerbate the condition. While conventional treatments like artificial tears provide temporary relief, emerging interventions such as nerve growth factors, matrix metalloproteinase inhibitors, serum eye drops, and specialized contact lenses show promise in promoting nerve regeneration and epithelial healing. Strategies such as customized ablation profiles, smaller optical zones, and nerve-sparing techniques like small incision lenticule extraction demonstrate potential advantages. A multifaceted therapeutic approach targeting neuroprotection, anti-inflammatory mechanisms, and tear film stabilization is imperative for effectively managing post-refractive surgery dry eye. Future research should focus on evaluating prognostic biomarkers, exploring precision medicine approaches, and investigating neuroprotective adjuvants to further enhance treatment outcomes.

BACKGROUND
Preoxygenation before endotracheal intubation (ETI) maintains asphyxiated oxygenation and reduces the risk of hypoxia-induced adverse events. Previous studies have compared various preoxygenation methods. However, network meta-analyses (NMAs) of the combined comparison of preoxygenation methods is still lacking.
METHODS
We searched for studies published in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, and the Cochrane Library. Review Manager version 5.3 was used to evaluate the risk of bias. The primary outcome of this meta-analysis was low oxygen saturation (SpO) during ETI. The secondary outcomes included SpO <80%, SpO <90%, and apnea time during ETI. NMA was performed using R 4.1.2 software gemtc packages in RStudio.
RESULTS
A total of 15 randomized controlled trials were included in this study. Regarding the lowest SpO, the noninvasive ventilation (NIV) with high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) group performed better than the other groups. For SpO <80%, the NIV group (0.8603467) performed better than the HFNC (0.1373533) and conventional oxygen therapy (COT, 0.0023) groups, according to the surface under the cumulative ranking curve results. For SpO <90%, the NIV group (0.60932667) performed better than the HFNC (0.37888667) and COT (0.01178667) groups. With regard to apnea time, the HFNC group was superior to the COT group (mean difference: -50.05; 95% confidence interval: -90.01, -10.09; = 0.01).
CONCLUSION
Network analysis revealed that NIV for preoxygenation achieved higher SpO levels than HFNC and COT and offered a more significant advantage in maintaining patient oxygenation during ETI. Patients experienced a longer apnea time after HFNC preoxygenation. The combination of NIV with HFNC proved to be significantly superior to other methods. Given the scarcity of such studies, further research is needed to evaluate its effectiveness.

Heavy metal ions (HMIs) are very harmful to the ecosystem when they are present in excess of the recommended limits. They are carcinogenic in nature and can cause serious health issues. So, it is important to detect the metal ions quickly and accurately. The metal ions arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), lead (Pb), and mercury (Hg) are considered to be very toxic among other metal ions. Standard analytical methods like atomic absorption spectroscopy, atomic fluorescence spectroscopy, and X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy are used to detect HMIs. But these methods necessitate highly technical equipment and lengthy procedures with skilled personnel. So, electrochemical sensing methods are considered to be more advantageous because of their quick analysis with precision and simplicity to operate. They can detect a wide range of heavy metals providing real-time monitoring and are cost-effective and enable multiparametric detection. Various sensing applications necessitate severe regulation regarding the modification of electrode surfaces. Numerous nanomaterials such as graphene, carbon nanotubes, and metal nanoparticles have been extensively explored as interface materials in electrode modifiers. These nanoparticles offer excellent electrical conductivity, distinctive catalytic properties, and high surface area resulting in enhanced electrochemical performance. This review examines different HMI detection methods in an aqueous medium by an electrochemical sensing approach and studies the recent developments in interface materials for altering the electrodes.

Transplantation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) is one of the hopeful treatments for spinal cord injury (SCI). Most current studies are in animals, and less in humans, and the optimal transplantation strategy for MSCs is still controversial. In this article, we explore the optimal transplantation strategy of MSCs through a network meta-analysis of the effects of MSCs on SCI in animal models. PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang Database, China Science and Technology Journal Database (VIP), and Chinese Biomedical Literature Service System (SinoMed) databases were searched by computer for randomized controlled studies on MSCs for SCI. Two investigators independently completed the literature screening and data extraction based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. RevMan 5.4 software was used to assess the quality of the included literature. Stata 16.0 software was used for standard meta-analysis and network meta-analysis. Standardized mean difference (SMD) was used for continuous variables to combine the statistics and calculate 95% confidence interval (95% CI). < 0.05 was considered a statistically significant difference. Cochrane's test and the value were used to indicate the magnitude of heterogeneity. A random-effects model was used if > 50% and < 0.10 indicated significant heterogeneity between studies, and conversely, a fixed-effects model was used. Evidence network diagrams were drawn based on direct comparisons between various interventions. The surface under the cumulative ranking curve area (SUCRA) was used to predict the ranking of the treatment effects of each intervention. A total of 32 animal studies were included in this article for analysis. The results of the standard meta-analysis showed that MSCs improved motor ability after SCI. The network meta-analysis showed that the best treatment effect was achieved for adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (ADMSCs) in terms of cell source and intrathecal (IT) in terms of transplantation modality. For transplantation timing, the best treatment effect was achieved when transplantation was performed in the subacute phase. The available literature suggests that IT transplantation using ADMSCs in the subacute phase may be the best transplantation strategy to improve functional impairment after SCI. Future high-quality studies are still needed to further validate the results of this study to ensure the reliability of the results.
