Peri-implantitis is a complex infectious disease that manifests as progressive loss of alveolar bone around the dental implants and hyper-inflammation associated with microbial dysbiosis. Using antibiotics in treating peri-implantitis is controversial because of antibiotic resistance threats, the non-selective suppression of pathogens and commensals within the microbial community, and potentially serious systemic sequelae. Therefore, conventional treatment for peri-implantitis comprises mechanical debridement by nonsurgical or surgical approaches with adjunct local microbicidal agents. Consequently, current treatment options may not prevent relapses, as the pathogens either remain unaffected or quickly re-emerge after treatment. Successful mitigation of disease progression in peri-implantitis requires a specific mode of treatment capable of targeting keystone pathogens and restoring bacterial community balance toward commensal species. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) hold promise as alternative therapeutics through their bacterial specificity and targeted inhibitory activity. However, peptide sequence space exhibits complex relationships such as sparse vector encoding of sequences, including combinatorial and discrete functions describing peptide antimicrobial activity. In this paper, we generated a transparent Machine Learning (ML) model that identifies sequence-function relationships based on rough set theory using simple summaries of the hydropathic features of AMPs. Comparing the hydropathic features of peptides according to their differential activity for different classes of bacteria empowered predictability of antimicrobial targeting. Enriching the sequence diversity by a genetic algorithm, we generated numerous candidate AMPs designed for selectively targeting pathogens and predicted their activity using classifying rough sets. Empirical growth inhibition data is iteratively fed back into our ML training to generate new peptides, resulting in increasingly more rigorous rules for which peptides match targeted inhibition levels for specific bacterial strains. The subsequent top scoring candidates were empirically tested for their inhibition against keystone and accessory peri-implantitis pathogens as well as an oral commensal bacterium. A novel peptide, VL-13, was confirmed to be selectively active against a keystone pathogen. Considering the continually increasing number of oral implants placed each year and the complexity of the disease progression, prevalence of peri-implant diseases continues to rise. Our approach offers transparent ML-enabled paths towards developing antimicrobial peptide-based therapies targeting the changes in the microbial communities that can beneficially impact disease progression.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE
In the literature, no studies correlate the effects of mandibular advancement devices (MADs) with different titration systems to periodontitis. Through a finite element analysis (FEA), this study investigates the effects generated on periodontal ligaments (PDLs) and teeth by four commercial MADs in periodontal health and with 15% bone resorption.
METHODS
Four MADs (Somnodent Flex™, Somnodent Avant™, Orthoapnea™, and Herbst™) were digitalised starting from the impressions of a patient's dental arches. A force of 11.18 N, representing an advancement of 9.5 mm, was applied, and a FEA was subsequently performed. After measuring the stresses and displacements on the PDLs and teeth in healthy periodontal conditions, the vertical dimension of the alveolar bone was reduced by 15%, and measurements were repeated.
RESULTS
In terms of PDL stress, Herbst™ is the device which guarantees a more uniform increment in case of the first stage of periodontitis (+7% for mandibular and maxillary PDLs compared to the healthy condition). For Somnodent™ devices, the PDLs stress increment is almost null for mandibular PDLs but much higher than Herbst™ for maxillary PDLs (+17% and +21% for Flex™ and Avant™). Orthoapnea™ determines a PDL stress augmentation between the other devices (+16% and +7%, respectively, for maxillary and mandibular PDLs). Concerning teeth movement, Herbst™ and Orthoapnea™ determine a lower and more uniform displacement than Somnodent devices.
CONCLUSIONS
The stress distribution and teeth displacement are strictly related to MAD geometry. Since its minor effects on teeth and PDLs, the Herbst™ could be more appropriate in patients with periodontitis.

Peri-implant diseases, characterized by inflammatory conditions affecting peri-implant tissues, encompass peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis. Peri-implant mucositis is an inflammatory lesion limited to the mucosa around an implant, while peri-implantitis extends from the mucosa to the supporting bone, causing a loss of osseointegration. For non-surgical treatments, we tested the null hypothesis that the presence or absence of air-polishing made no difference. The study focused on randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing air-polishing with mechanical or ultrasonic debridement, evaluating outcomes such as bleeding on probing (BOP), probing depth (PD), plaque index/plaque score (PI/PS), clinical attachment level (CAL), bone loss, and mucosal recession (MR). Two independent reviewers conducted data extraction and quality assessments, considering short-term (<6 months) and long-term (≥6 months) follow-up periods. After screening, ten articles were included in the meta-analysis. In nonsurgical peri-implant disease management, air-polishing moderately mitigated short-term PI/PS for peri-implant mucositis and showed a similar improvement in long-term BOP and bone loss for peri-implantitis compared to the control group. The Egger test found no evidence of publication bias except for the long-term PI/PS of peri-implant mucositis. Leave-one-out analysis confirmed the stability of the results. The findings highlight the need for future research with longer-term follow-up and high-quality, multi-center, large-sample RCTs.

To determine whether rinsing with preprocedural mouthrinses against coronavirus disease before acid etching affects resin-based sealant microleakage.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
A presented experimental study was performed on 15 extracted permanent third molars. Samples were randomly allocated into five groups: Group 1-distilled water (control); Group 2-1% hydrogen peroxide; Group 3-1.5% hydrogen peroxide; Group 4-0.5% povidone-iodine; and Group 5-1% povidone-iodine. After the teeth were immersed in the assigned mouth rinses for 60 s, they were sealed with Concise™ white sealant. Subsequently, the teeth were thermocycled for 500 cycles, immersed in 2% methylene blue solution for 24 h, and sectioned with two parallel cuts in the buccolingual direction. Sixty surfaces (12 surfaces in each group) were examined for microleakage under a 40× light microscope and scored as described by Zyskind . Welch's one-way analysis of variance test and the Games-Howell test were used to analyze the results at a significance level of < 0.05 for all tests.
RESULTS
The intergroup comparisons indicated that the 0.5% povidone-iodine group and the 1% povidone-iodine group had significantly higher microleakage compared with the control group. The 1% and 1.5% hydrogen peroxide groups demonstrated no significant difference in mean microleakage scores compared with the control group. There was no significant difference between the povidone groups and the hydrogen peroxide groups.
CONCLUSIONS
Preprocedural rinsing with 0.5% and 1% povidone-iodine before acid etching caused higher microleakage of resin-based sealant, while hydrogen peroxide rinsing gave comparable microleakage compared with the control group.

INTRODUCTION AND AIMS
Early childhood caries (ECC) is a widespread oral disease that harms children's health in China. Although previous studies have linked ECC prevalence to socioeconomic status, few have measured the degree of socioeconomic inequality. This study aimed to evaluate the socioeconomic inequality of ECC in children aged 3 to 5 years in China and identify the contributor to the inequality.
METHODS
We extracted data on 3 to 5-year-old children from the fourth National Oral Health Survey. We measured the inequality of ECC by the average household income per capita. We used the average household income per capita to measure the inequality of ECC. To describe inequality both qualitatively and quantitatively, we used the following methods: concentration curve, Erreygers-corrected concentration index, relative index of inequality and slope index of inequality. We also applied a decomposition based on the probit model to identify the factors that contributed to inequality.
RESULTS
The prevalence of ECC in Chinese preschool children was 63.11% (95% CIs: 60.54%, 65.61%). The negative value of the Erreygers-corrected concentration index (-0.0459; 95% CIs: -0.0594, -0.0324), slope index of inequality (-0.0674; 95% CIs: -0.0876, -0.0471) and the positive value of relative index of inequality (0.7484; 95% CIs: 0.6856, 0.8169) all indicated that ECC prevalence was higher among children from low-income families. The main factors contributing to inequality were average household income, parents' educational level and living areas.
CONCLUSION
There is a pro-poor inequality in ECC among 3 to 5-year-old children in China.
CLINICAL RELEVANCE
To improve oral health equality, policymakers should focus more on children from low-income families, with less educated parents and living in rural areas.

Pediatric cancers are frequently driven by genomic alterations that result in aberrant transcription factor activity. Here, we used functional genomic screens to identify multiple genes within the transcriptional coactivator Spt-Ada-Gcn5-acetyltransferase (SAGA) complex as selective dependencies for -amplified neuroblastoma, a disease of dysregulated development driven by an aberrant oncogenic transcriptional program. We characterized the DNA recruitment sites of the SAGA complex in neuroblastoma and the consequences of loss of SAGA complex lysine acetyltransferase (KAT) activity on histone acetylation and gene expression. We demonstrate that loss of SAGA complex KAT activity is associated with reduced MYCN binding on chromatin, suppression of MYC/MYCN gene expression programs, and impaired cell cycle progression. Further, we showed that the SAGA complex is pharmacologically targetable in vitro and in vivo with a KAT2A/KAT2B proteolysis targeting chimeric. Our findings expand our understanding of the histone-modifying complexes that maintain the oncogenic transcriptional state in this disease and suggest therapeutic potential for inhibitors of SAGA KAT activity in -amplified neuroblastoma.

This was the first longitudinal study to analyze dental clinic wastewater to estimate asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection trends in children. We monitored wastewater over a 14-month period, spanning three major COVID-19 waves driven by the Alpha, Delta, and Omicron variants. Each Saturday, wastewater was sampled at the Pediatric Dental Clinic of the only dental hospital in Japan's Saitama Prefecture. The relationship between the weekly number of cases in Saitama Prefecture among residents aged < 10 years (exposure) and wastewater SARS-CoV-2 RNA detection (outcome) was examined. The number of cases was significantly associated with wastewater SARS-CoV-2 RNA positivity (risk ratio, 5.36; 95% confidence interval, 1.72-16.67; Fisher's exact test, p = 0.0005). A sample from Week 8 of 2022 harbored the Omicron variant. Compared to sporadic individual testing, this approach allows continuous population-level surveillance, which is less affected by healthcare seeking and test availability. Since wastewater from pediatric dental clinics originates from the oral cavities of asymptomatic children, such testing can provide important information regarding asymptomatic COVID-19 in children, complementing clinical pediatric data.

The reduction in food and hydration intake that is unavoidable leads to a worsening of neurological symptoms. Patients with Parkinson's disease experience significant challenges when adjusting to wearing entire dentures. Each of these problems presents a considerable challenge for the doctor in terms of prosthodontic rehabilitation. This case study describes how a patient with Parkinson's disease was able to employ flexible removable partial dentures supported by implants to replace both their full and partial set of missing teeth. A well-made prosthesis will help the patient with their psychological, functional, and aesthetic impairments.

BACKGROUND
The bone regeneration therapy is often used in patients with inadequate bone support for implants, particularly following tooth extractions. Xenografts derived from animal tissues are effective bone reconstructive options that resist resorption and pose a low risk of transmitting disease. Therefore, these implants may be a good option for enhancing and stabilizing maxillary sinuses. The purpose of this study was to compare two xenografts, BoneB® and InterOss®, for the reconstruction of rabbit calvaria defects.
METHODS AND MATERIALS
The study involved seven male New Zealand white rabbits. In the surgical procedure, 21 spots were created on both sides of the midline calvarium by creating three 8-millimeter defects. A control group was used, as well as two treatment groups utilizing BoneB® Grafts and InterOss® Grafts. After 3 months, the rabbits were euthanized, followed by pathological evaluation. Analysis of these samples focused on bone formation, xenograft remaining material, and inflammation levels, using Adobe Photoshop CS 8.0 and SPSS version 24.
RESULTS
With the application of BoneB® graft, bone formation ranged from 32% to 45%, with a mean of 37.80% (±5.63), and the remaining material ranged from 28% to 37%, with a mean of 32.60% (±3.65). Using InterOss® grafts, bone formation was 61% to 75%, the mean was 65.83% (±4.75), and the remaining material was 9% to 18%, with a mean of 13.17% (±3.06). The bone formation in the control group ranged from 10% to 25%, with a mean of 17.17% (±6.11). InterOss® had lower inflammation levels than other groups, but the difference was not statistically significant (p > .05).
CONCLUSION
InterOss® bone powder is the best option for maxillofacial surgery and bone reconstruction. This is due to more bone formation, less remaining material, and a lower inflammation level. Compared to the control group, BoneB® improves healing and bone quality, thus making it an alternative to InterOss®.
