The climate simulation frontier of a global storm-resolving model (GSRM; or -scale model because of its kilometer-scale horizontal resolution) is deployed for climate change simulations. The climate sensitivity, effective radiative forcing, and relative humidity changes are assessed in multiyear atmospheric GSRM simulations with perturbed sea-surface temperatures and/or carbon dioxide concentrations. Our comparisons to conventional climate model results can build confidence in the existing climate models or highlight important areas for additional research. This GSRM's climate sensitivity is within the range of conventional climate models, although on the lower end as the result of neutral, rather than amplifying, shortwave feedbacks. Its radiative forcing from carbon dioxide is higher than conventional climate models, and this arises from a bias in climatological clouds and an explicitly simulated high-cloud adjustment. Last, the pattern and magnitude of relative humidity changes, simulated with greater fidelity via explicitly resolving convection, are notably similar to conventional climate models.

Plasmodium vivax serological exposure markers (SEMs) have emerged as promising tools for the actionable surveillance and implementation of targeted interventions to accelerate malaria elimination. To determine the dynamic profiles of SEMs in current and past P. vivax infections, we screened and selected 11 P. vivax proteins from 210 putative proteins using protein arrays, with a set of serum samples obtained from patients with acute P. vivax and documented past P. vivax infections. Then we used a murine protein immune model to initially investigate the humoral and memory B cell response involved in the generation of long-lived antibodies. We show that of the 11 proteins, especially C-terminal 42-kDa region of P. vivax merozoite surface protein 1 (PvMSP1-42) induced longer-lasting long-lived antibodies, as these antibodies were detected in individuals infected with P. vivax in the 1960-1970s who were not re-infected until 2012. In addition, we provide a potential mechanism for the maintenance of long-lived antibodies after the induction of PvMSP1-42. The results indicate that PvMSP1-42 induces more CD73+CD80+ memory B cells (MBCs) compared to P. vivax GPI-anchored micronemal antigen (PvGAMA), allowing IgG anti-PvMSP1-42 antibodies to be maintained for a long time.

Advancements in diagnostic modalities, such as enhanced magnetic resonance imaging, provide increased opportunities for identifying small hepatocellular carcinoma that is undetectable on preoperative ultrasonography. Whether it is acceptable to leave these lesions untreated is uncertain. This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging-guided hepatectomy using new navigation systems. This study was conducted between July 2019 and January 2023. We retrospectively studied the clinicopathological features and prognoses of patients with small hepatocellular carcinoma who underwent curative intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging-guided hepatectomy. We evaluated 23 patients (median age, 75 years), among whom 20 (87.0%) were males. Seven (30.4%) and 15 (65.2%) patients had liver cirrhosis and a history of hepatectomy, respectively. The median size of the target lesions was 9 mm, with a median distance of 6 mm from the liver surface. Despite being undetectable preoperatively on contrast-enhanced ultrasonography, all lesions were identified using intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging. Based on pathological findings, 76.0% of the lesions were malignant. The complete resection rate was 100%, and tumor-free margins were confirmed in 96.0% of the patients. Intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging-guided hepatectomy is safe and effective in identifying and resecting small hepatocellular carcinoma lesions that are undetectable on preoperative ultrasonography.

BACKGROUND
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) represents a significant worldwide health issue, experiencing an increasing incidence rate. Effective dietary strategies are vital for T2DM management, but the optimal dietary patterns remain debated due to inconsistent research outcomes and single-outcome reporting. Network Meta-Analysis (NMA) provides a powerful approach for integrating data from randomized controlled trials (RCTs), enabling a detailed evaluation of the impact of different dietary patterns. This document presents our strategy for a systematic review and network meta-analysis, aimed at assessing the influence of key dietary patterns on glycemic control, lipid profiles, and weight management in individuals with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM).
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Adhering to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis Protocols (PRISMA-P) and network meta-analyses guidelines, we conducted a comprehensive search of PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library, without language or date restrictions. Our objective is to assess the efficacy of various dietary interventions in managing Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). We used standardized mean differences for pairwise comparisons and a Bayesian framework for ranking interventions via Surface Under the Cumulative Ranking Curve (SUCRA). Key analyses include heterogeneity, transitivity, and sensitivity assessments, along with quality and risk evaluations using the Cochrane Collaboration's tool and the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) system.
ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION
This systematic review and network meta-analysis involve aggregate data from previous trials, obviating the need for additional ethical approval. The search strategy will be executed starting October 2023, with all searches completed by December 2023, to encompass the most current studies available. Findings will be shared through academic conferences and peer-reviewed journals focused on diabetes care and nutrition.

PURPOSE
This review aims to summarize the current knowledge concerning the clinical features, diagnostic work-up, and therapeutic approach of uveitic epiretinal membranes (ERM).
METHODS
A thorough investigation of the literature was conducted using the PubMed database. Additionally, a complementary search was carried out on Google Scholar to ensure the inclusion of all relevant items in the collection.
RESULTS
ERM is an abnormal layer at the vitreoretinal interface, resulting from myofibroblastic cell proliferation along the inner surface of the central retina, causing visual impairment. Known by various names, ERM has diverse causes, including idiopathic or secondary factors, with ophthalmic imaging techniques like OCT improving detection. In uveitis, ERM occurrence is common, and surgical intervention involves pars plana vitrectomy with ERM peeling, although debates persist on optimal approaches.
CONCLUSIONS
Histopathological studies and OCT advancements improved ERM understanding, revealing a diverse group of diseases without a unified model. Consensus supports surgery for uveitic ERM in progressive cases, but variability requires careful consideration and effective inflammation management. OCT biomarkers, deep learning, and surgical advances may enhance outcomes, and medical interventions and robotics show promise for early ERM intervention.

Compounds originating from animal husbandry can pollute surface water through the application of manure to soil. Typically, grab sampling is employed to detect these residues, which only provides information on the concentration at the time of sampling. To better understand the emission patterns of these compounds, we utilized passive samplers in surface water to collect data at eight locations in a Dutch agricultural region, during different time intervals. As a passive sampler, we chose the integrative-based Speedisk® hydrophilic DVB. In total, we targeted 46 compounds, among which 25 antibiotics, three hormones, nine antiparasitics, and nine disinfectants. From these 46 compounds, 22 compounds accumulated in passive samplers in amounts above the limit of quantification in at least one sampling location. Over the 12-week deployment period, a time integrative uptake pattern was identified in 53% of the examined cases, with the remaining 47% not displaying this behavior. The occurrences without this behavior were primarily associated with specific location, particularly the most upstream location, or specific compounds. Our findings suggest that the proposed use of passive samplers, when compared in this limited context to traditional grab sampling, may provide enhanced efficiency and potentially enable the detection of a wider array of compounds. In fact, a number of compounds originating from animal husbandry activities were quantified for the first time in Dutch surface waters, such as flubendazole, florfenicol, and tilmicosine. The set-up of the sampling campaign also allowed to distinguish between different pollution levels during sampling intervals on the same location. This aspect gains particular significance when considering the utilization of different compounds on various occasions, hence, it has the potential to strengthen ongoing monitoring and mitigation efforts.

The primary purpose of the study, as part of the planned conservation work, was to uncover all aspects of autochthonous biofilm pertaining to the formation of numerous deterioration symptoms occurring on the limestone Rožanec Mithraeum monument in Slovenia. Using state-of-the-art sequencing technologies combining mycobiome data with observations made via numerous light and spectroscopic (FTIR and Raman) microscopy analyses pointed out to epilithic lichen Gyalecta jenensis and its photobiont, carotenoid-rich Trentepohlia aurea, as the origin of salmon-hued pigmented alterations of limestone surface. Furthermore, the development of the main deterioration symptom on the monument, i.e., biopitting, was instigated by the formation of typical endolithic thalli and ascomata of representative Verrucariaceae family (Verrucaria sp.) in conjunction with the oxalic acid-mediated dissolution of limestone. The domination of lichenized fungi, as the main deterioration agents, both on the relief and surrounding limestone, was additionally supported by the high relative abundance of lichenized and symbiotroph groups in FUNGuild analysis. Obtained results not only upgraded knowledge of this frequently occurring but often overlooked group of extremophilic stone heritage deteriogens but also provided a necessary groundwork for the development of efficient biocontrol formulation applicable in situ for the preservation of similarly affected limestone monuments.

The increasing temperature of surface seawater is expected to substantially affect the viability and ecological dynamics of , potentially altering its relationship with bacteria. However, it remains unclear to what extent the elevated temperature could change these relationships. Here, the relationship between axenic and natural seawater bacteria underwent a dramatic shift from mutualism to antagonism as the co-culture temperature increased from 20°C to 25°C. The co-occurrence network indicated significantly increased complexity of interaction between and bacteria community after temperature elevation, especially with , implying their potential role in eliminating under higher temperatures. Additionally, a isolate, namely MS1 identified as genus, was isolated from the co-culture system at 25°C. MS1 had a remarkable ability to eliminate , with the mortality rate at 25°C steadily rising from 30.2% at 48 h to 92.4% at 120 h. However, it promoted algal growth to some extent at 20°C. These results demonstrated that increased temperature promotes MS1 shifts from mutualism to antagonism with . According to the comparative genomics analysis, changes in the lifestyle of MS1 were attributed to the increased gliding motility and attachment of MS1 under elevated temperature, enabling it to exert an algicidal effect through direct contact with alga. This investigation provided an advanced understanding of interactions between phytoplankton and bacteria in future warming oceanic ecosystems.
IMPORTANCE
Ocean warming profoundly influences the growth and metabolism of phytoplankton and bacteria, thereby significantly reshaping their interactions. Previous studies have shown that warming can change bacterial lifestyle from mutualism to antagonism with phytoplankton, but the underlying mechanism remains unclear. In this study, we found that high temperature promotes sp. MS1 adhesion to , leading to algal lysis through direct contact, demonstrating a transition in lifestyle from mutualism to antagonism with increasing temperature. Furthermore, the gliding motility of MS1 appears to be pivotal in mediating the transition of its lifestyle. These findings not only advance our understanding of the phytoplankton-bacteria relationship under ocean warming but also offer valuable insights for predicting the impact of warming on phytoplankton carbon sequestration.

The hospital environmental microbiome, which can affect patients' and healthcare workers' health, is highly variable and the drivers of this variability are not well understood. In this study, we collected 37 surface samples from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in an inpatient hospital before and after the operation began. Additionally, healthcare workers collected 160 surface samples from five additional areas of the hospital. All samples were analyzed using 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing, and the samples collected by healthcare workers were cultured. The NICU samples exhibited similar alpha and beta diversities before and after opening, which indicated that the microbiome there was stable over time. Conversely, the diversities of samples taken after opening varied widely by area. Principal coordinate analysis (PCoA) showed the samples clustered into two distinct groups: high alpha diversity [the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), pathology lab, and microbiology lab] and low alpha diversity [the NICU, pediatric surgery ward, and infection prevention and control (IPAC) office]. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) classification models identified 156 informative amplicon sequence variants (ASVs) for predicting the sample's area of origin. The testing accuracy ranged from 86.37% to 100%, which outperformed linear and radial support vector machine (SVM) and random forest models. ASVs of genera that contain emerging pathogens were identified in these models. Culture experiments had identified viable species among the samples, including potential antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Though area type differences were not noted in the culture data, the prevalences and relative abundances of genera detected positively correlated with 16S sequencing data. This study brings to light the microbial community temporal and spatial variation within the hospital and the importance of pathogenic and commensal bacteria to understanding dispersal patterns for infection control.
IMPORTANCE
We sampled surface samples from a newly built inpatient hospital in multiple areas, including areas accessed by only healthcare workers. Our analysis of the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) showed that the microbiome was stable before and after the operation began, possibly due to access restrictions. Of the high-touch samples taken after opening, areas with high diversity had more potential external seeds (long-term patients and clinical samples), and areas with low diversity and had fewer (short-term or newborn patients). Classification models performed at high accuracy and identified biomarkers that could be used for more targeted surveillance and infection control. Though culturing data yielded viability and antibiotic-resistance information, it disproportionately detected the presence of genera relative to 16S data. This difference reinforces the utility of 16S sequencing in profiling hospital microbiomes. By examining the microbiome over time and in multiple areas, we identified potential drivers of the microbial variation within a hospital.

We used phage display, antibody engineering, and high-throughput assays to identify antibody-accessible targets of . We report the discovery of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) binding to type 3 fimbrial proteins, including MrkA. We found that anti-MrkA mAbs were cross-reactive to a diverse panel of clinical isolates, representing different O-serotypes. mAbs binding to MrkA have previously been described and have been shown to provide prophylactic protection, although only modest protection when dosed therapeutically in a murine lung infection model. Here, we used a combination of binding and opsonophagocytic killing studies using a high-content imaging platform to provide a possible explanation for the modest therapeutic efficacy reported in that model. Our work shows that expression of type 3 fimbriae in culture is not homogenous within a bacterial population. Instead, sub-populations of bacteria that do, and do not, express type 3 fimbriae exist. In a high-content opsonophagocytic killing assay, we showed that MrkA-targeting antibodies initially promote killing by macrophages; however, over time, this effect is diminished. We hypothesize the reason for this is that bacteria not expressing MrkA can evade opsonophagocytosis. Our data support the fact that MrkA is a conserved, immunodominant protein that is antibody accessible on the surface of and suggest that additional studies should evaluate the potential of using anti-MrkA antibodies in different stages of infection (different sites in the body) as well as against biofilms in the body during infection and associated with medical devices.IMPORTANCEThere is an unmet, urgent need for the development of novel antimicrobial therapies for the treatment of infections. We describe the use of phage display, antibody engineering, and high-throughput assays to identify antibody-accessible targets of . We discovered monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) binding to the type 3 fimbrial protein MrkA. The anti-MrkA mAbs were found to be highly cross-reactive, binding to all strains tested from a diverse panel of clinical isolates, and were active in an opsonophagocytic killing assay at pM concentrations. MrkA is important for biofilm formation; thus, our data support further exploration of the use of anti-MrkA antibodies for preventing and/or controlling in biofilms and during infection.
