BACKGROUND
Amyloid β (Aβ) is a hallmark of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Insufficient sleep duration and poor sleep quality have been found to be a risk factor of developing AD because sleep may involve regulating Aβ. However, the magnitude of the relationship between sleep duration and Aβ is still unclear. This systematic review examines the relationship between sleep duration and Aβ in later-life adults.
METHODS
We screened 5,005 published articles searched from relevant electronic databases (i.e., PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, and PsycINFO) and reviewed 14 articles for the qualitative synthesis and 7 articles for the quantitative synthesis.
RESULTS
Mean ages of the samples ranged from 63 to 76. Studies measured Aβ using cerebrospinal fluid, serum, and positron emission tomography scans with two tracers: Carbone 11-labeled Pittsburgh compound B or fluorine 18-labeled. Sleep duration was subjectively measured using interviews, questionnaires, or using objective measures such as polysomnography or actigraphy. The studies accounted for demographic and lifestyle factors in their analyses. Five of the 14 studies reported a statistically significant association between sleep duration and Aβ. Using seven eligible articles, our quantitative synthesis demonstrated that the average association between sleep duration and Aβ was not statistically significant (Fisher's Z = -0.006, 95% CI= -0.065 ~ 0.054).
CONCLUSION
This review suggests that caution should be taken when considering sleep duration as the primary factor for Aβ levels. More studies are needed using a longitudinal design, comprehensive sleep metrics, and larger sample sizes to advance our understanding of the optimal sleep duration and AD prevention.

OBJECTIVE
The aim of this systematic review and metaanalysis is to summarize evidence regarding the relationship between psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and sleep problems.
METHODS
We identified 36 eligible studies-26 cross-sectional, 7 cohort, and 3 interventional studies-in PubMed and Embase.
RESULTS
The prevalence of self-reported sleep problems in patients with PsA ranged from 30% to 85%. A metaanalysis of 6 studies that used the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index revealed a prevalence of poor sleep quality for patients with PsA of 72.9% (95% CI 63-81.8; = 78%), which was statistically higher than in healthy controls (26.9%, 95% CI 11.7-45.4; = 81%) but not significantly different than in patients with psoriasis (59.8%, 95% CI 46.9-72.1; = 51%). Sleep disturbance was ranked in the top 4 health-related quality of life domains affected by PsA. One study suggested a bidirectional relationship between PsA and obstructive sleep apnea. Predictors of sleep problems included anxiety, pain, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, depression, fatigue, physical function, and tender or swollen joint count. Tumor necrosis factor inhibitors, guselkumab, and filgotinib (a Janus kinase inhibitor) were associated with improved sleep outcomes.
CONCLUSION
Poor sleep quality is prevalent in patients with PsA. Objective sleep measures (ie, actigraphy and polysomnography) have not been used in PsA studies, and evidence on the validity of patient-reported sleep measures in PsA is lacking. Future studies should validate self-reported sleep measures in PsA, explore how sleep quality relates to PsA disease activity and symptoms using both objective and subjective sleep measures, assess the efficacy of strategies to manage sleep problems, and assess the effects of such management on symptoms and disease signs in patients with PsA.

BACKGROUND
Promoting physical activity (PA) in different populations experiencing sleep disturbance may increase population PA levels and improve sleep. This scoping review aimed to examine the effect of various PA intervention strategies on sleep across different populations, identify key sleep outcomes, and analyze knowledge gaps by mapping the relevant literature.
METHODS
For this study, we systematically searched articles published till March 2022 from PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Embase databases for randomized clinical trials (RCTs) regarding the effect of physical activity on sleep. Two authors extracted key data and descriptively analyzed the data. Thematic analysis was used to categorize the results into themes by all authors. Arksey and O'Malley's scoping review framework was used to present the findings.
RESULTS
Twenty-one randomized controlled trials out of 3052 studies were finally included with 3677 participants (2852 females (78%)). Five trials were conducted in healthy working-age adults with sleep disturbance but without the diagnosis of insomnia, five in healthy older adults, two in perinatal women, four in patients with cancer, three in mental illness related subjects, and another two in other disease-related areas. PA interventions were diverse, including walking, resistance training, aerobic exercise, housework, water exercise, basketball, smartphone/tablet "apps", web, online videos or wearable actigraphy, and self-determined exercise. Three major themes were identified: (1) Sleep environment may be important to address prior to instituting PA interventions, (2) All types of PA were effective for improving sleep in all populations studied, (3) Self-tolerated PA is safe for improving sleep in the elderly and in co-morbid or perinatal populations.
CONCLUSIONS
PA is effective and safe for improving sleep in both healthy and co-morbid populations with sleep disturbance by increasing daily activity levels using a variety of strategies, even low intensity, such as housekeeping, sit-to-stand repetitions, along with encouraging PA through web pages, videos, and self-goal setting apps. In addition, this scoping review identifies the need for further therapeutic research and future exploration in populations with sleep initiation or sleep maintenance disturbance.

AIM
To systematically assess the impact of commercially available hybrid closed loop (HCL) systems on psychological outcomes in youths with type 1 diabetes and their parents.
METHODS
We performed a systematic review including studies published in the last 10 years. PICOS framework was used in the selection process, and evidence was assessed using the GRADE system.
RESULTS
A total of 215 studies were identified after duplicate removal, and 31 studies were included in this systematic review: 20 on first-generation HCL and 11 on second-generation HCL systems. According to studies with moderate- to high-level quality of evidence, HCL systems led to better, or in some studies, unchanged psychological outcomes such as distress and burden related to diabetes management, fear of hypoglycemia, quality of life, satisfaction; instead, quality of sleep was perceived as improved, although results were not confirmed in studies using actigraphy. From semi-structured interviews, answers were more homogeneous, and participants reported a positive experience and attitude towards HCL technology, which was felt to be easy to use and apt to achieve glycemic targets.
CONCLUSIONS
Evidence confirms the importance of evaluating the psychosocial needs of youths with diabetes and their families when starting HCL systems and during follow-up, and to set realistic expectations of what can be achieved along with awareness of the limitations of the systems, and educate and motivate families to overcome barriers.

In the management of insomnia, physicians and patients are seeking alternative therapeutics to sleeping pills, in addition to sleep hygiene and cognitive behavioural therapy. Bright light therapy (LT) has proven its efficacy in circadian and mood disorders. We conducted a systematic literature review and meta-analysis according to Cochrane and PRISMA guidelines and using the databases Medline, Cochrane, and Web of Science, with a special focus on light therapy and insomnia. Twenty-two studies with a total of 685 participants were included, five of which with a high level of proof. Meta-analysis was performed with 13 of them: light therapy for insomnia compared with control conditions significantly improved wake after sleep onset (WASO: SMD = -0.61 [-1.11, -0.11]; p = 0.017; weighted difference of 11.2 min ±11.5 based on actigraphy, and SMD = -1.09 [-1.43, -0.74] (p < 0.001) weighted difference of -36.4 min ±15.05) based on sleep diary, but no other sleep measures such as sleep latency, total sleep time (TST), or sleep efficiency. Qualitative analysis of the review showed some improvement mainly in subjective measures. Morning light exposure advanced sleep-wake rhythms and evening exposure led to a delay. No worsening was observed in objective nor subjective measures, except for TST in one study with evening exposure. A light dose-response may exist but the studies' heterogeneity and publication bias limit the interpretation. To conclude, light therapy shows some effectiveness for sleep maintenance in insomnia disorders, but further research is needed to refine the light parameters to be chosen according to the type of insomnia, in the hope of developing personalised therapeutics.

Patients with myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) often report disrupted and unrefreshing sleep in association with worsened fatigue symptoms. However, the nature and magnitude of sleep architecture alteration in ME/CFS is not known, with studies using objective sleep measures in ME/CFS generating contradictory results. The current manuscript aimed to review and meta-analyse of case-control studies with objective sleep measures in ME/CSF. A search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, Medline, Google Scholar, and Psychoinfo databases. After review, 24 studies were included in the meta-analysis, including 20 studies with 801 adults (ME/CFS = 426; controls = 375), and 4 studies with 477 adolescents (ME/CFS = 242; controls = 235), who underwent objective measurement of sleep. Adult ME/CFS patients spend longer time in bed, longer sleep onset latency, longer awake time after sleep onset, reduced sleep efficiency, decreased stage 2 sleep, more Stage 3, and longer rapid eye movement sleep latency. However, adolescent ME/CFS patients had longer time in bed, longer total sleep time, longer sleep onset latency, and reduced sleep efficiency. The meta-analysis results demonstrate that sleep is altered in ME/CFS, with changes seeming to differ between adolescent and adults, and suggesting sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system alterations in ME/CFS.

Whilst Ecological momentary assessment (EMA) can provide important insights over time and across contexts among rotation workers whose work periods alternate with leave at home, it can also be challenging to implement in the resources and construction sectors. This review aimed to provide a summary of the methodological characteristics of EMA studies assessing health outcomes and related behaviors in rotation workers. Systematic searches in PubMed, Medline, EMBASE, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and Scopus were done to include 23 studies using EMA methods in assessing health-related outcomes and behaviors. EMA designs included daily diary: assessments once per day typically fixed at the end of day (47.8%), within day fixed interval time-based design: assessments on multiple times per day at certain times of day (17.4%) and combination of both designs (34.8%). Studies employed paper and pencil diaries (73.9%) and one or more electronic methods (60.9%): wrist-worn actigraphy device (52.2%) and online-based diaries (26.1%) for data collection. Most of the studies (91.3%) did not report prompting -EMAs by schedule alerts or compliance. Daily diary and within day fixed interval dairies designs are common, with the increasing use of electronic EMA delivery techniques. It is unclear how well participants adhere to assessment schedules, as these are inadequately reported. Researchers should report compliance-related information.

Functional capacity assessment is important for perioperative risk stratification; however, there are currently limited options for objective and economical functional capacity evaluation. Pedometer functions are now widely available in mobile devices and offer a nonintrusive and objective approach to measuring patient activity level over time. Therefore, we conducted this systematic review to assess the value of pedometer readings in predicting perioperative outcomes. We systematically searched PubMed, EMBASE (Ovid), Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), and Web of Science Citation Index for studies, which assessed the correlation between perioperative (30 days before to 30 days after surgery) pedometer data and perioperative outcomes. We identified a total of 18 studies for inclusion. Seven of the studies recorded preoperative pedometer data, and 13 studies recorded postoperative pedometer data. Notably, 10 of the studies covered oncologic surgery patients. The included studies consistently reported that preoperative pedometer readings correlated with postoperative complication rates. In addition, in-hospital postoperative pedometer readings correlated with postdischarge complications and readmissions. Perioperative pedometer data demonstrated consistent and biologically plausible association with perioperative outcomes. Further studies are needed to validate the use of pedometer in the perioperative period and to identify the optimal approach for its use to potentially improve patient outcomes.

COVID-19 has probably contributed as a risk factor for sleep disturbance. Actigraphy has been used to evaluate sleep complaints in self-isolated populations and frontline doctors during the COVID-19 pandemic. This systematic review aims to summarize the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on sleep through wrist actigraphy, estimating sleep latency, total sleep time, awakening-after-sleep onset, and sleep efficiency. Searches were conducted of observational studies on the PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, and PEDro databases from 1 December 2019 to 31 December 2022. Ninety articles were found, and given the eligibility criteria, fifteen were selected. Six studies were classified by the National Health and Medical Research Council as evidence level IV, two studies as level III-3, and seven studies as level III-2. According to the ACROBAT-NRSI instrument, three studies were classified as having a "serious" risk of bias, two as having "critical" risk, four as having "moderate" risk, and six as having "low" risk. In the selected publications, various populations were evaluated via actigraphy during the COVID-19 pandemic, with reports of "poor" sleep quality. Actigraphy may be a relevant tool to assess individual day-night rhythms and provide recommendations under enduring pandemic conditions. Moreover, as actigraphy presents objective data for sleep evaluations, it is suggested that this method be used in similar pandemics and that actigraphy be included as part of the sleep hygiene strategy.

BACKGROUND
Cognitive impairment experienced by people with bipolar disorders (BD) or major depressive disorder (MDD) is associated with impaired psychosocial function and poorer quality of life. Sleep disturbance is another core symptom of mood disorders which may be associated with, and perhaps worsen, cognitive impairments. The aim of this systematic review was to critically assess the relationship between sleep disturbance and cognitive impairment in mood disorders.
METHODS
In this systematic review, relevant studies were identified using electronic database searches of PsychINFO, MEDLINE, Embase and Web of Science.
FINDINGS
Fourteen studies were included; eight investigated people with BD, five investigated people with MDD, and one included both people with MDD and people with BD. One study was an intervention for sleep disturbance and the remaining thirteen studies used either a longitudinal or cross-sectional observational design. Ten studies reported a significant association between subjectively measured sleep disturbance and cognitive impairment in people with MDD or BD after adjusting for demographic and clinical covariates, whereas no such association was found in healthy participants. Two studies reported a significant association between objectively measured (actigraphy or polysomnography) sleep abnormalities and cognitive impairment in mood disorders. One study of cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia modified for BD (CBTI-BD) found an association between improvements in sleep and cognitive performance in BD.
INTERPRETATION
There is preliminary evidence to suggest a significant association between sleep disturbance and cognitive impairment in mood disorders. These findings highlight the need for further research of sleep disturbances and cognitive impairment in people with mood disorders.
