Inguinal hernia repair is a common surgical intervention. Advancements in minimally invasive techniques, specifically laparoscopic (LR) and robot-assisted (RR) approaches, have reshaped the landscape of surgical options. This meta-analysis aimed to systematically assess and compare the effectiveness and safety of laparoscopic and robot-assisted inguinal hernia repair through a comprehensive review of the literature. A systematic search of databases was conducted to identify relevant studies published up to November 30, 2023. Fifteen studies, encompassing a total of 64,568 participants, met the inclusion criteria. Pooled estimates for key outcomes, including duration of operation, overall complications, and surgical site infection (SSI), were calculated using random-effects models. This meta-analysis revealed a statistically significant difference in the duration of surgery, favoring laparoscopic repair over robot-assisted techniques (mean difference: 26.85 minutes, 95% CI (1.16, 52.54)). Overall complications did not significantly differ between the two approaches (odds ratio: 1.54, 95% CI (0.83, 2.85)). However, a significantly greater risk of SSI was identified for robot-assisted procedures (odds ratio: 3.32, 95% CI (2.63, 4.19)). This meta-analysis provides insights into the comparative effectiveness of laparoscopic and robot-assisted inguinal hernia repair. While laparoscopy has shorter operative times and comparable overall complication rates, the increased risk of SSI during robot-assisted procedures necessitates careful consideration in clinical decision-making. Surgeons and healthcare providers should weigh these findings according to patient characteristics, emphasizing a personalized approach to surgical decision-making. The evolving landscape of inguinal hernia repair warrants ongoing research to refine techniques and optimize outcomes for the benefit of patients undergoing these procedures.

INTRODUCTION
As patients become increasingly involved in healthcare decision-making, it is important to examine the drivers behind patient choice of doctor (PCOD); the initial decision can have lasting impacts on patients' trust in providers and outcomes. However, limited studies have explored PCOD relative to socioeconomic status (SES) or health disparity. This review identified similar preferences and varied decision criteria in PCOD across SES groups.
METHODS
PubMed, PsycINFO, Web of Science, and relevant cross-references were searched for articles published between January 2007-September 2022. Papers were screened using Covidence. Included studies examined PCOD by income and/or educational levels. Analysis was performed in 2022-2023.
RESULTS
From 4,449 search results, 29 articles were selected (16 countries, 14 medical specialties, total of 32,651 participants). Higher-SES individuals ranked physician characteristics (e.g., qualifications, empathy) or performance more important than cost or convenience. Lower-SES individuals often had to prioritize logistical factors (e.g., insurance coverage, distance) due to resource constraints and gaps in knowledge or awareness about options. Despite differing healthcare systems, such divergence in PCOD were relatively consistent across countries. Some patients, especially females and disadvantaged groups, favored gender-concordant physicians for intimate medical matters (e.g., gynecologist); this partiality was not limited to conservative cultures. Few researchers investigated the outcomes of PCOD and indicated that lower-SES populations inadvertently chose, experienced, or perceived lower quality care.
DISCUSSION
Patients' decision criteria varied by SES, even under national systems intended for universal access, indicating the impacts of social determinants and structural inequities. Health education supporting patient decision-making and research on how SES affects PCOD and outcomes could help reduce health disparity.

INTRODUCTION
While vaccines are crucial for disease prevention, disparities in vaccination coverage persist among youths aged 10 to 29 years, including within the United States. Serious games are emerging as a new strategy to address vaccine hesitancy. This systematic review aimed to aggregate and assess the current evidence on game-based interventions to improve youth vaccination rates, evaluating their impact and identifying factors influencing their effectiveness.
METHODS
This systematic review was conducted through a meticulous search and evaluation of literature from databases including PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature database, ProQuest platform, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar. Studies were included if they (a) were designed with the purpose of improving youth vaccination rates; (b) were published in English; (c) were published between January 2011 and June 2023; and (d) evaluated the effect of game-based interventions. Search terms included Medical Subject Headings terms and keywords of the eligible articles.
RESULTS
Out of 269 studies, 11 were included in the final analysis of this review. The earliest study dated back to 2013, with 5 being randomized controlled trial and 6 studies incorporating theoretical models in their design or outcome measures. The findings indicated a generally positive effect of game-based interventions on vaccine-related knowledge. However, the impact on actual vaccine uptake was limited. In-game avatar customization and collaboration games were found as effective tools for player engagement.
CONCLUSION
The review findings indicated that serious games boost vaccine knowledge but lack strong evidence for influencing youth vaccine uptake. More rigorous research and tailored game designs are needed to determine the effectiveness of game-based interventions and effectively address the diverse needs of youth in vaccine decision-making.

OBJECTIVE
Despite various surgical and non-surgical strategies for abdominal wall endometriosis, the lack of definitive guidance on optimal treatment choice leads to clinical uncertainty. This review scrutinizes the safety and efficacy of abdominal wall endometriosis treatments to aid in decision-making.
DATA SOURCES
We performed a systematic literature review of PubMed, Embase and Cochrane Library databases from 1947 until December 2023.
METHODS OF STUDY SELECTION
A comprehensive literature search identified studies that assessed both surgical and nonsurgical interventions, including high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), cryoablation, radiofrequency ablation (RFA), and microwave ablation (MWA). This review is registered in NIHR-PROSPERO (CRD 42023494969). Local tumor control (LTC), local pain relief (LPR) and adverse events (AE) were recorded.
TABULATION, INTEGRATION, AND RESULTS
This review included 51 articles among 831 identified. All study designs were considered eligible for inclusion. A total of 2,674 patients are included: 2,219 patients (83%) undergoing surgery, and 455 (17%) undergoing percutaneous interventions (342 HIFU, 103 cryoablation, 1 RFA, 9 MWA). Follow-up length was 18 months in median, ranging from 1 to 235 months. Overall LTC rates ranged from 86% to 100%. Surgical interventions consistently demonstrated the highest rate of LTC with a median rate of 100%, and LPR with a median rate of 98.2% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 93.9-97.7). HIFU showed median LTC and LPR rates, respectively of 95.65% (95% CI, 87.7-99.9) and 76.1% (95% CI, 61.8-90.4); and cryoablation of 85.7% (95% CI, 66.0-99.9) and 79.2% (95% CI, 67.4-91.03). Minor AE were reported after surgery in 17.5% of patients (225/1284) including 15.9% (199/1284) of mesh implantation; 76.4% (239/313) after HIFU; and 8.7 % (9/103) after cryoablation. Severe AE were reported in 25 patients in the surgery group and 1 in the percutaneous group.
CONCLUSION
The safety profile and efficacy of nonsurgical interventions support their clinical utility for management of abdominal wall endometriosis.

BACKGROUND
Nursing informatics competency holds immense significance in the modern healthcare landscape, making it a vital requirement for nursing students before they graduate and embark on their professional careers. Nurses should integrate evidence-based nursing informatics (NI) into routine procedures to manage acute and chronic illnesses due to the increased complexity of the nursing profession and the healthcare systems.
DESIGN
A systematic review.
METHODS
PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and EMBASE were searched till December 2023 for any relevant studies evaluating the nursing informatics competency among students.
RESULTS
In this systematic review of 13 articles, the nursing informatics seems to be familiar among nursing students. Most of the included participants were generally competent, with an average total nursing informatics competency score of 3.4. In addition, they reported good scores for the clinical informatics role (Mean = 2.63), attitude (M= 3.7), basic computer knowledge and skills (M= 3.9), applied computer skills (M= 2.5), and wireless device skills (M= 3.2). However, these results were limited due to the use of structurally different assessment tools and their different cutoff values.
CONCLUSION
Nursing informatics competency has a great impact on the quality of services provided by healthcare systems. It is affected by several factors, such as the student's previous computer experience and the curricular and extracurricular exposure to informatics knowledge and skills. The available literature lacks a precise judgment on the competency of nursing students. But it seems to vary from fair to good among them. So, it is recommended to include nursing informatics as an obligatory course rather than an elective in the nursing baccalaureate. This helps prepare future nurses with the required knowledge and skills for better clinical decision-making.

Literature surrounding miscarriage is broad in scope, yet narrative constructions following miscarriage are significantly under-researched. Few studies have sought to understand sense-making processes following miscarriage, including how and why people story their experience. Consequently, the complexities and nuances of these processes have not been adequately explored. This review aimed to gain insight into what is already known about how people story their experience of miscarriage, as well as research gaps and limitations. A systematic literature review of qualitative literature was conducted across four databases to identify relevant research related to miscarriage narratives and sense-making. Eligibility criteria was applied to a staged screening process to identify the highest quality, peer-reviewed research. Ten studies were included in the review and presented as a narrative synthesis. The literature was divided into five collective themes: women's perspectives, male partner's perspectives, couples' perspectives, healthcare professional's perspectives, and cultural perspectives. The literature review summarises existing knowledge about narrative processes in relation to miscarriage, as well as highlighting research gaps, clinical implications, and directions for future research. When working with those who have experienced involuntary child loss and infertility, there is a need for professionals to have appropriate training to support the provision of compassionate, individualised care and decision-making. The role of language requires consideration as there is a need to address over-medicalised systems of knowledge, and it is important that there is understanding regarding the need for expression, and the various ways that individuals might express their feelings and loss.

IMPORTANCE
Patient education materials (PEMs) can promote patient engagement, satisfaction, and treatment adherence. The American Medical Association recommends that PEMs be developed for a sixth-grade or lower reading level. Health literacy (HL) refers to an individual's ability to seek, understand, and use health information to make appropriate decisions regarding their health. Patients with suboptimal HL may not be able to understand or act on health information and are at risk for adverse health outcomes.
OBJECTIVE
To assess the readability of PEMs on head and neck cancer (HNC) and to evaluate HL among patients with HNC.
EVIDENCE REVIEW
A systematic review of the literature was performed by searching Cochrane, PubMed, and Scopus for peer-reviewed studies published from 1995 to 2024 using the keywords head and neck cancer, readability, health literacy, and related synonyms. Full-text studies in English that evaluated readability and/or HL measures were included. Readability assessments included the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level (FKGL grade, 0-20, with higher grades indicating greater reading difficulty) and Flesch Reading Ease (FRE score, 1-100, with higher scores indicating easier readability), among others. Reviews, conference materials, opinion letters, and guidelines were excluded. Study quality was assessed using the Appraisal Tool for Cross-Sectional Studies.
FINDINGS
Of the 3235 studies identified, 17 studies assessing the readability of 1124 HNC PEMs produced by professional societies, hospitals, and others were included. The mean FKGL grade ranged from 8.8 to 14.8; none of the studies reported a mean FKGL of grade 6 or lower. Eight studies assessed HL and found inadequate HL prevalence ranging from 11.9% to 47.0%.
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE
These findings indicate that more than one-third of patients with HNC demonstrate inadequate HL, yet none of the PEMs assessed were developed for a sixth grade or lower reading level, as recommended by the American Medical Association. This incongruence highlights the need to address the readability of HNC PEMs to improve patient understanding of the disease and to mitigate potential barriers to shared decision-making for patients with HNC. It is crucial to acknowledge the responsibility of health care professionals to produce and promote more effective PEMs to dismantle the potentially preventable literacy barriers.

OBJECTIVE
Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) encompass several conditions that cause pain and impair function of the masticatory muscles (M-TMDs) and temporomandibular joints. There is a large interest among clinicians and researchers in the use of botulinum toxin-A (BoNT-A) as a treatment for M-TMD. However, due to the lack of consistent evidence regarding the efficacy as well as adverse events of BoNT-A, clinical decision making is challenging. Therefore, this umbrella review aimed to systematically assess systematic reviews (SRs) evaluating BoNT-A treatment effects on pain intensity, mandibular movements, and adverse events in patients with M-TMDs.
METHOD
An electronic search was undertaken in the databases MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, Cochrane Central Registry of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), Web of Science, Epistemonikos, ClinicalTrials.gov, and ICTRP to identify SRs investigating BoNT-A effects on M-TMDs, published from the inception of each database until 6 December 2023. The quality of evidence was rated according to the critical appraisal checklist developed by the umbrella review methodology working group. Only high-quality SRs were included.
RESULTS
In total, 18 SRs were included. BoNT-A was shown to be more effective than placebo to reduce pain intensity, but not compared to standard treatments. Additionally, BoNT-A was not superior to placebo or standard treatments regarding improvement of mandibular movements. BoNT-A was considered to have a higher risk for adverse events on muscle and bony tissue compared with other treatments.
CONCLUSION
The synthesis in this umbrella review provides the highest level of evidence present. Taken together, there are indications of effectiveness of BoNT-A for treatment of M-TMDs, supported by moderate evidence. However, considering the risk of causing serious adverse events, treatment with BoNT-A is recommended to be the last treatment alternative.

The aim of this study was to quantify the diagnostic value of dual-tracer PET/computed tomography (CT) with 11C-acetate and fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) in per-lesion and per-patient and its effect on clinical decision-making for choosing the most appropriate management. The study protocol is registered a priori at https://osf.io/rvm75/. PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library were searched for relevant studies until 1 June 2023. Studies regarding the review question were included. The Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies-2 (QUADAS-2) was used to assess bias risk. Per-lesion and per-patient diagnostic performance were calculated for: (1) 11C-acetate alone; (2) FDG alone; and (3) dual tracer of 11C-acetate and FDG. A direct comparison of these three combinations was made. The possible sources of statistical heterogeneity were also examined. We also calculated the percentage change in clinical decision-making when dual-tracer PET/CT was added to conventional imaging routinely used for metastatic evaluation (CT/MRI). Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluations tool was used to evaluate the certainty of evidence. Eight studies including 521 patients and 672 metastatic lesions were included. Dual-tracer PET/CT had a per-lesion sensitivity of 96.3% [95% confidence interval (CI), 91.8-98.4%] and per-patient sensitivity of 95.5% (95% CI, 89.1-98.2%) which were highly superior to either of tracers alone. Per-patient specificity was 98.5% (84.1-99.9%) which was similar to either of tracers alone. Overall, 9.3% (95% CI, 4.7-13.9%) of the patients had their management beneficially altered by adding dual-tracer PET/CT to their conventional CT/MRI results. Dual-tracer PET/CT substantially outperforms single-tracer methods in detecting extrahepatic hepatocellular carcinoma metastases, evidencing its reliability and significant role in refining clinical management strategies based on robust diagnostic performance.

BACKGROUND
Although exercise benefits female cancer survivors, clinical decision-making regarding timing, frequency, duration, and intensity is lacking. Optimizing exercise interventions in this population is necessary. This study aimed to describe existing digital home-based exercises and to assess their effectiveness at improving physical health in female cancer survivors upon completion of therapy.
DESIGN
We conducted a systematic review using articles from Web of Science, Embase and Medline (Ovid). We included intervention studies examining the effects of digital home-based exercise programs on post-treatment recovery in female cancer survivors. Rob2 and ROBIN I were used to assess quality of studies. Quality-of-life, fatigue score, and physical performance were assessed using meta-analysis.
RESULTS
This study involved 1578 female cancer survivors in 21 interventions. Following guidelines and supervised exercise with coaches led to better outcomes than interventions without guidelines, programs without coaches, or lower intensity exercise. Exercise led to significant improvement in some physical performance outcomes. Significant improvements were seen in physical performance outcomes, including the 6-min walk test, metabolic equivalent task, and number of steps per day.
CONCLUSION
Providing cancer survivors with standard guidelines for home-based, coach-supervised, vigorous exercise on digital platforms could improve their physical function, health, and quality-of-life.
