BACKGROUND
There are a myriad of exercise variations in which upper body (UB) and lower body (LB) exercises have been intermittently used. However, it is still unclear how training of one body region (e.g. LB) affects adaptations in distant body areas (e.g. UB), and how different UB and LB exercise configurations could help facilitate physiological adaptations of either region; both referred to in this review as vertical strength transfer.
OBJECTIVE
We aimed to investigate the existence of the vertical strength transfer phenomenon as a response to various UB and LB exercise configurations and to identify potential mechanisms underpinning its occurrence.
METHODS
A systematic search using the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) for Scoping Reviews protocol was conducted in February 2024 using four databases (Web of Science, MEDLINE, Scopus and CINAHL) to identify peer-reviewed articles that investigated the vertical strength transfer phenomenon.
RESULTS
Of the 5242 identified articles, 24 studies met the inclusion criteria. Findings suggest that the addition of UB strength training to LB endurance exercise may help preserve power-generating capacity for the leg muscle fibres. Furthermore, systemic endocrine responses to high-volume resistance exercise may beneficially modulate adaptations in precedingly or subsequently trained muscles from a different body region, augmenting their strength gains. Last, strength training for LB could result in improved strength of untrained UB, likely due to the increased central neural drive.
CONCLUSIONS
Vertical strength transfer existence is enabled by neurophysiological mechanisms. Future research should involve athletic populations, examining the potential of vertical strength transfer to facilitate athletic performance and preserve strength in injured extremities.

Colorectal cancer is a significant health challenge globally, with its prognosis associated with the profile of molecular biomarkers. Recently, the role of iron death-associated long non-coding (lnc)RNAs in cancer development has garnered attention; however, their expression patterns and prognostic value in colorectal cancer remain poorly elucidated. The present study aimed to assess the expression levels of iron death-related lncRNAs in colorectal cancer tissues and evaluate their relationship with patient outcomes through a comprehensive meta-analysis. Systematic searches were performed across multiple databases, including PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, CNKI, Wanfang and VIP databases, to identify studies relevant to the objective of the present study. Selected studies met predetermined inclusion criteria, from which data were extracted. R software version 4.3.1 was used for the meta-analysis, evaluating the association between iron death-related lncRNAs expression and colorectal cancer prognosis. Publication bias was assessed using funnel plot analysis, and Begg's and Egger's test. A total of 11 studies, including 3,984 patients with colorectal cancer, were included in the present meta-analysis. The results demonstrated a significant association between iron death-related lncRNAs and tumor stage classification [odds ratio (OR)=2.00; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.77-2.24]. Notably, a significant association was also revealed between iron death-related lncRNAs and T stage classification in colorectal cancer (OR=1.82; 95% CI, 1.50-2.20). Furthermore, a statistically significant association was demonstrated between iron death-related lncRNAs and lymph node metastasis in colorectal cancer (OR=1.31; 95% CI, 1.03-1.66). The findings also highlighted a significant association between iron death-associated lncRNA and distant metastasis in colon cancer (OR=2.04; 95% CI, 1.62-2.56). Moreover, a significant association between iron death-related lncRNAs and risk score in colorectal cancer was revealed (OR=1.75; 95% CI, 1.25-2.46). In conclusion, the findings of the present meta-analysis underscore the potential of high ferroptosis-associated lncRNA expression as an indicator of adverse outcomes in colorectal cancer, suggesting their viability as biomarkers for cancer progression and prognosis. This insight opens potential new avenues for clinical application and further research into colorectal cancer management.

PURPOSE
Dedifferentiated low-grade osteosarcomas, which are considered high grade malignancies, can arise from the dedifferentiation of parosteal and low-grade osteosarcomas. Usually, localized dedifferentiated low-grade osteosarcomas are treated by wide resection, and the efficacy of adjuvant chemotherapy is controversial. We conducted a systematic review of studies that investigated the rates of mortality and significant events, such as recurrence and metastases, in localized dedifferentiated low-grade osteosarcoma patients who received wide resection only and in those who received wide resection and (neo-)adjuvant chemotherapy.
METHODS
We identified 712 studies through systematic searches of Embase, PubMed, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials databases. Of those studies, seven were included in this review and none were randomized controlled trials. In the seven studies, 114 localized dedifferentiated low-grade osteosarcoma patients were examined.
RESULTS
Mortality rates of the resection plus chemotherapy (R + C) and the resection only (Ronly) groups were 20.3% and 11.4%, respectively [overall pooled odds ratio, 1.59 (P = 0.662); heterogeneity I, 0%]. The local recurrence or distant metastasis rate in the R + C group was 36.7% and that in the Ronly group was 28.6% [overall pooled odds ratio, 1.37 (P = 0.484); heterogeneity I was 0%].
CONCLUSIONS
Results show a limited efficacy of adjuvant chemotherapy for localized dedifferentiated low-grade osteosarcoma. However, because this was a systematic review of retrospective studies that examined a small number of patients, future randomized controlled trials are needed.

Breast cancer is one of the most lethal neoplasms causing death. Oral cavity is the rare site of distant metastasis from breast cancer. Very little research has been conducted to date to analyze breast cancer as the sole primary source of metastasis to the oral soft tissues. The goal of this study was to examine the published cases of oral soft tissue metastasis from breast cancer as the only primary source to date. An electronic search of the published literature was performed without publication year limitation in PubMed/Medline, Scopus, Google Scholar, Web of Science, Science Direct, Embase, and Research Gate databases, using mesh keywords like ("Breast cancer", OR "Breast carcinoma") AND ("Metastasis" OR "Metastases"), And ("Oral soft tissues" OR "Tongue" OR "Palate" OR "Tonsil" OR "Buccal mucosa" OR "Floor of mouth" OR "Vestibule" OR "Salivary glands"). We also searched all related journals manually. The reference list of all articles was also checked. Our research revealed 88 relevant papers (September 1967-September 2023) with 96 patients in total. The most predominant oral soft tissues involved were salivary glands followed by the gingiva, tonsils, tongue, and buccal mucosa. A total of 23% of patients died with an average survival time of 1 to 15 months. Oral soft tissue metastasis from breast cancer is a rare event and has a bad prognosis. More cases need to be published to raise awareness of these lesions.

OBJECTIVE
Chordomas are locally aggressive neoplasms of the spine or skull base that arise from embryonic remnants of the notochord. Intradural chordomas represent a rare subset of these neoplasms, and few studies have described intradural chordomas in the spine. This review evaluates the presentation, management, and outcomes of intradural spinal chordomas.
METHODS
A systematic review of PubMed/MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Scopus, and Web of Science was performed. Studies describing at least 1 case of intradural chordomas anywhere in the spine were included. Extracted details included presenting symptoms, radiological findings, treatment course, follow-up, and disease progression.
RESULTS
Thirty-one studies, with a total of 41 patients, were included in this review. Seventy-six percent (31/41) of patients had primary intradural tumors, whereas 24% (10/41) presented with metastasis. The most common signs and symptoms were pain (n = 27, 66%); motor deficits (n = 20, 49%); sensory deficits (n = 17, 42%); and gait disturbance (n = 10, 24%). The most common treatment for intradural chordoma was resection and postoperative radiotherapy. Sixty-six percent (19/29) of patients reported improvement or complete resolution of symptoms after surgery. The recurrence rate was 37% (10/27), and the complication rate was 25% (6/24). The median progression-free survival was 24 months (range 4-72 months). Four patient deaths were reported. The median follow-up time was 12 months (range 13 days-84 months).
CONCLUSIONS
Treatment of intradural spinal chordomas primarily involves resection and radiotherapy. A significant challenge and complication in management is spinal tumor seeding after resection, with 9 studies proposing seeding as a mechanism of tumor metastasis in 11 cases. Factors such as tumor size, Ki-67 positivity, and distant metastasis may correlate with worse outcomes and demonstrate potential as prognostic indicators for intradural spinal chordomas. Further research is needed to improve understanding of this tumor and develop optimal treatment paradigms for these patients.

Distant metastasis to salivary glands is a very rare event. Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) has been known for its high propensity of metastasis to unusual locations and salivary glands are one among those sites. Approximately 0.1% of all salivary gland metastatic neoplasms originate from renal malignancies Literature has reported several studies analysing the metastatic tumors to the oral region. However, very little research work has been published to date to analyse solely the RCC metastasizing to the salivary glands. Thus, this review was conducted to examine the published cases of RCC metastasizing to salivary glands in the literature to date and to learn about their characteristics. An electronic search of the published literature was performed without publication year limitation in PubMed/ Medline, Scopus, Google Scholar, Web of Science, Science Direct, Embase, and Research Gate databases, using mesh keywords like ('Renal cancer', OR 'Renal carcinoma' OR 'Renal cell cancer' OR 'Renal cell carcinoma'), AND ('Metastasis' OR 'Metastases'), And ('Salivary glands' OR 'Parotid gland' OR 'Submandibular gland' OR 'Sublingual gland'). We also searched all related journals manually. The reference list of all articles was also checked. Our research revealed a total of 83 relevant papers (1965-2022) with 100 patients. Parotid was the most predominant gland affected. 8% of patients died with a mean survival time of 1.3 yr. From this research, it can be concluded that RCC metastasizing to salivary glands is a rare occurrence. Careful evaluation of these cases is needed in order to raise awareness of these lesions and gain a better understanding of their characteristics for clinical as well as global implications.

The main objective of this rapid systematic review was to examine how the COVID-19 pandemic impacted peer relationships for adolescents (10-25 years of age) around the globe. We focused on four indices of peer relationships: (1) loneliness, (2) social connectedness, (3) social support, and (4) social media use. In addition, we examined gender and age differences. Four databases (APA PsychInfo, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science) were searched for articles published from January 2020 to November 2022. A total of 96 studies (cross-sectional: n = 66, longitudinal: n = 30, quantitative: n = 67, qualitative: n = 12, mixed-methods: n = 17) met our inclusion criteria (empirical observational studies with data on at least one of the indices of interest, cross-sectional data on COVID-19-related experiences or longitudinal data collected during the pandemic, age range of 10-25 years, typically developing adolescents). We extracted data and conducted a narrative synthesis. Findings suggest that COVID-19 disruptions negatively impacted peer relationships for youth. Most studies reported either an increase in loneliness over the course of the pandemic or a positive association between loneliness and COVID-19-related experiences. Similar findings were observed for increased social media use as a means of continued communication and connection. Fewer studies focused on social support but those that did reported a decrease or negative association with COVID-19-related experiences. Lastly, findings suggest a mixed impact on social connectedness, which might be due to the strengthening of closer ties and weakening of more distant relationships. Results for gender differences were mixed, and a systematic comparison of differences across ages was not possible. The heterogeneity in measures of COVID-19-related experiences as well as timing of data collection prevented a more nuanced examination of short and more long-term impacts.

BACKGROUND
Breast cancer is the most frequent cancer among women worldwide with significant disproportionate mortality rates in developing countries. Although clinical management of breast cancer has been immensely improved, refinement in the prognostic and recurrent markers is still needed. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNA) HOTAIR has recently been associated with poor outcome and is potentially used as a prognostic marker in breast cancer.
METHODS
We comprehensively reviewed studies evaluating lncRNA HOTAIR in association with overall and disease-free survivals in breast cancers. Systematic searches were performed in Pubmed, ProQuest, ScienceDirect, Scopus, Google Scholar, Semantic Scholar, Springer, Nature, Sage Journals, and Wiley databases using combination keywords "long non-coding RNA," "lncRNA," "HOX transcript antisense RNA," "HOTAIR," "breast can-cer," "carcinoma mammae," "prognosis," and "survival." Risk of bias score was used to assess quality of studies, I2 test was conducted to assess heterogeneity. Meta-analysis was performed to compare HOTAIR expression with breast cancer survival rates using STATA v.17 software.
RESULTS
Of the total 1,504 screened studies, seven studies were included in the meta-analysis involving 533 patients. High expression of HOTAIR was associated with poor survival rates (pooled HR: 1.69; 95%CI: 1.11-2.59; p=0.015), shorter overall survival (OS) (pooled HR: 1.33; 95%CI: 0.78-2.26; p=0.455), poor disease-free survival (DFS) (pooled HR: 2.40; 95%CI: 1.63-3.53; p<0.001), poor distant metastatic-free survival (MFS) (HR: 1.75; 95%CI: 1.13-2.71; p=0.012). In addition, overexpression of HOTAIR was associated with positive lymph node infiltration (pooled OR: 2.38; 95%CI: 0.53-10.69; p=0.26) and ductal type cancer (pooled OR: 3.27; 95%CI: 1.15-9.30; p=0.03).
CONCLUSION
Upregulation of lncRNA HOTAIR is associated with worse DFS aand MFS that can potentially be used as a prognostic marker in breast cancer patients.

BACKGROUND
Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are molecular chaperones that play an important role in cellular protection against stress events and have been reported to be overexpressed in many cancers. The prognostic significance of HSPs and their regulatory factors, such as heat shock factor 1 (HSF1) and CHIP, are poorly understood.
AIM
To investigate the relationship between HSP expression and prognosis in esophageal and esophagogastric cancer.
METHODS
A systematic review was conducted in accordance with PRISMA recommendations (PROSPERO: CRD42022370653), on Embase, PubMed, Cochrane, and LILACS. Cohort, case-control, and cross-sectional studies of patients with esophagus or esophagogastric cancer were included. HSP-positive patients were compared with HSP-negative, and the endpoints analyzed were lymph node metastasis, tumor depth, distant metastasis, and overall survival (OS). HSPs were stratified according to the HSP family, and the summary risk difference (RD) was calculated using a random-effect model.
RESULTS
The final selection comprised 27 studies, including esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (21), esophagogastric adenocarcinoma (5), and mixed neoplasms (1). The pooled sample size was 3465 patients. HSP40 and 60 were associated with a higher 3-year OS [HSP40: RD = 0.22; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.09-0.35; HSP60: RD = 0.33; 95%CI: 0.17-0.50], while HSF1 was associated with a poor 3-year OS (RD = -0.22; 95%CI: -0.32 to -0.12). The other HSP families were not associated with long-term survival. HSF1 was associated with a higher probability of lymph node metastasis (RD = -0.16; 95%CI: -0.29 to -0.04). HSP40 was associated with a lower probability of lymph node dissemination (RD = 0.18; 95%CI: 0.03-0.33). The expression of other HSP families was not significantly related to tumor depth and lymph node or distant metastasis.
CONCLUSION
The expression levels of certain families of HSP, such as HSP40 and 60 and HSF1, are associated with long-term survival and lymph node dissemination in patients with esophageal and esophagogastric cancer.

OBJECTIVE
Our study aims to head to head compare the application of gallium-68-fibroblast activation protein inhibitor (Ga-FAPI) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) and fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose (F-FDG) PET/CT in primary and metastatic lesions of gastric tumor to determine the superior diagnostic tool.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
A systematic search, up to March 31, 2023, across PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases utilized a data-specific Boolean logic strategy. Sensitivity (SEN) and specificity (SPE) evaluations of Ga-FAPI and F-FDG PET/CT in gastric cancer lesions were conducted. The quality of the studies was assessed using QUADAS-2, and publication bias was examined through Begg and Egger tests.
RESULTS
Analysis involved 141 gastric tumor patients and 2753 metastatic lesions in five studies, with overall satisfactory study quality and no apparent publication bias. Patient-level data showed a combined SEN of 0.95 (95% CI: 0.90-0.98) for Ga-FAPI and 0.84 (95% CI: 0.77-0.89) for F-FDG. At the lesion level, combined SEN were 0.91 (95% CI: 0.84-0.96) for Ga-FAPI and 0.72 (95% CI: 0.63-0.80) for F-FDG. The pooled SEN for detecting lymph node metastases was 0.78 (95% CI: 0.74-0.82) for Ga-FAPI and 0.35 (95% CI: 0.30-0.39) for F-FDG, with pooled SPE values of 0.99 (95% CI: 0.98-0.99) and 0.97 (95% CI: 0.96-0.98), respectively. For detecting distant metastases, pooled SEN values were 0.97 (95% CI: 0.96-0.98) and 0.69 (95% CI: 0.66-0.72) for Ga-FAPI and F-FDG, with pooled SPE values of 0.86 (95% CI: 0.82-0.89) and 0.64 (95% CI: 0.59-0.68), respectively.
CONCLUSION
This meta-analysis concluded that Ga-FAPI PET/CT was significantly more sensitive than F-FDG PET/CT in assessing primary gastric tumors, lymph nodes, and distant metastases, but the difference in the specificity of lymph node metastasis was not significant.
