INTRODUCTION
Preservation of reproductive function is a key concern for many premenopausal women with breast cancer, given the known gonadotoxic effects of treatments. The present systematic review aimed to investigate the effectiveness and safety of fertility preservation strategies in pre-menopausal women with breast cancer.
METHODS
Primary research assessing fertility preservation strategies of any type was identified. Markers of preservation of fertility including return of menstrual function, clinical pregnancy rates and live birth rates were selected as main outcome measures. An additional analysis of safety data was also performed.
RESULTS
Fertility preservation interventions were overall associated with higher fertility outcomes: with a pooled odds ratio 4.14 (95% CI 3.59-4.77) for any kind of fertility preservation intervention. This was seen both for return of menstruation and for clinical pregnancy rate, but not for live birth rates. Fertility preservation was associated with a reduced rate of disease recurrence (OR 0.63 (95% CI 0.49-0.81)), while there was no significant difference in disease free survival (OR 0.88 (95% CI 0.74-1.05)) or in overall survival (OR 0.9 (95% CI 0.74-1.10)) between the fertility preservation group and those who had not undergone fertility preservation.
CONCLUSION
Fertility preservation is both effective in preserving reproductive function, and safe with regard to disease recurrence, disease free survival and overall survival in premenopausal women with breast cancer.

Primary Dysmenorrhea (PD) is characterized by painful cramps before or during menstruation. It is generally treated with nonpharmacological methods. However, with the advancement of research and the passage of time, physiotherapy plays an increasingly important role in treating patients with PD. Electrotherapy and exercise therapy are conservative methods to treat PD. Alternative methods to minimize reliance on medicinal-based treatments are the need of the hour. This review aims to determine the efficacy of exercise-based therapies and electrotherapy modalities in treating PD. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses standards have been used in the present systematic review and meta-analysis. Cochrane, PubMed, and Google Scholar were searched to facilitate the same. The articles from 2011 to 2021 were included in this review. The quality of the review was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias tool. The visual analog scale was taken as a measure of pain intensity in the meta-analysis, and other outcomes have been included in the systematic review discussed. A total of 15 publications have been included, with a meta-analysis of 7. All included studies were of high quality (PEDro ≥ 5), and demonstrated the efficacy of exercise-based therapies and electrotherapy modalities in treating pain in females with PD. This review aims to check the impact of exercise and electrotherapy in females suffering from PD.

STUDY OBJECTIVE
Menstrual dysfunction can impact both the physical and emotional health of young people. Multiple chronic diseases have been associated with menstrual dysfunction in adults; however, there is little research in adolescents, despite nonadherence and suboptimal illness control in this group. We aimed to identify the impact of chronic illness on the age of menarche and the menstrual cycle in adolescents.
METHODS
Studies were extracted of female adolescents aged 10-19 who had a chronic physical illness. Data included outcomes on age of menarche and/or menstrual cycle quality. Exclusion criteria aimed to exclude diseases where menstrual dysfunction was a known part of the disease pathophysiology (ie, polycystic ovarian syndrome) or in which medications were used that directly impacted gonadal function. A literature search (to January 2022) was performed on the EMBASE, PubMed, and Cochrane library databases. Two widely used modified quality analysis tools were used.
RESULTS
Our initial search netted 1451 articles, of which 95 full texts were examined and 43 met the inclusion criteria. Twenty-seven papers focused on type 1 diabetes (T1D), with 8 papers examining adolescents with cystic fibrosis and the remaining studying inflammatory bowel disease, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, coeliac disease, and chronic renal disease. Metanalysis of 933 patients with T1D vs 5244 controls demonstrated a significantly later age of menarche in T1D (by 0.42 years; P ≤ .00001). There was also a significant association between higher HbA1c and insulin dose (IU/kg) and later age of menarche. Eighteen papers reviewed other aspects of menstruation, including dysmenorrhea, oligomenorrhoea, amenorrhea, and ovulatory function, with variable findings.
CONCLUSION
Most studies were small and in single populations. Despite this, there was evidence of delayed menarche and some evidence of irregular menses in those with cystic fibrosis and T1D. Further structured studies are needed to evaluate menstrual dysfunction in adolescents and how it relates to their chronic illness.

BACKGROUND
Suicide is a global health concern. There are reproductive health-related factors that are responsible for increasing the risk of female suicide. There are a number of studies examining the association between suicide and the menstrual cycle, but still, there are no conclusive findings.
AIM
We aimed to pool data from all the studies reporting data on suicides and the menstrual cycle phase to report the following outcomes: incidence of suicidal deaths in the menstrual, secretory, and proliferative phases, and to find out whether the burden of suicide in the menstrual phase in particular, was more at a young age (18-35 years) or middle age (36-50years).
METHODS
The PubMed database was extensively searched from inception till 12 April 2022. The data for the number of events occurring for each outcome were pooled using random-effects model and forest plots were created.
RESULTS
Five articles were shortlisted for inclusion in our analysis. Incidence of suicide in the secretory phase was highest at 45.2% [95% CI, 0.367-0.537]. The incidence of suicide, when occurring in the menstrual phase, was reported to be 68.4% (95 CI, 0.317-1.052) and 31.6% (95 CI, -0.052.3-0.68) for young-aged and middle-aged victims, respectively.
CONCLUSION
Our results demonstrate that the menstrual phase has a lower risk of mortality due to suicide when compared to the other two phases of the menstrual cycle. Nevertheless, when suicide occurred in the menstrual phase, the incidence of suicide among the younger age-group was higher than for those in the middle age-group.

INTRODUCTION
Uterine adenomyosis is a benign disorder in which endometrial glands and stroma are present within the myometrium. There have been several case reports of cerebral infarction associated with adenomyosis, but their clinical characteristics, optimal treatment, and prognosis have not been systematically reviewed.
METHODS
A case of cerebral infarction with adenomyosis is reported, and a comprehensive systematic literature search using the PubMed database was conducted.
RESULTS
A 42-year-old woman, previously diagnosed with adenomyosis, developed multiple cerebral infarctions during menstruation. Her CA125 level was 293 U/mL, and treatment with edoxaban 30 mg was started. Seven days after hospital discharge, she had her subsequent menstrual period and then developed a recurrent stroke. Her CA125 level was 743 U/mL on readmission. A hysterectomy was performed, and the patient has had no further stroke recurrence. A systematic review identified 19 cases with cerebral infarction associated with adenomyosis, including the present case. The patients' clinical characteristics included young age (44.7 ± 6.2 years), stroke development during menstruation (85%), multiple infarctions affecting ≥ 3 vessel territories (39%), and high levels of CA125 and D-dimer (810.6 ± 888.4 U/mL, and 10.3 ± 18.6 μg/mL, respectively). Antithrombotic therapy was given to 14 patients, but recurrent stroke occurred in 5 (36%) patients. Hysterectomy was conducted in 5 and 4 patients with initial and recurrent stokes, respectively, and there were no further recurrences thereafter.
CONCLUSION
Cerebral infarction associated with adenomyosis has specific clinical characteristics. Antithrombotic therapy was insufficient, and hysterectomy should particularly be considered in cases of recurrent stroke.

Effects of the menstrual cycle phase on anterior cruciate ligament neuromuscular and biomechanical injury risk surrogates in eumenorrheic and naturally menstruating women: A systematic review.
BACKGROUND
Eumenorrheic women experience cyclic variations in sex hormones attributed to the menstrual cycle (MC) which can impact anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) properties, knee laxity, and neuromuscular function. This systematic review aimed to examine the effects of the MC on ACL neuromuscular and biomechanical injury risk surrogates during dynamic tasks, to establish whether a particular MC phase predisposes women to greater ACL injury risk.
METHODS
PubMed, Medline, SPORTDiscus, and Web of Science were searched (May-July 2021) for studies that investigated the effects of the MC on ACL neuromuscular and biomechanical injury risk surrogates. Inclusion criteria were: 1) injury-free women (18-40 years); 2) verified MC phases via biochemical analysis and/or ovulation kits; 3) examined neuromuscular and/or biomechanical injury risk surrogates during dynamic tasks; 4) compared ≥1 outcome measure across ≥2 defined MC phases.
RESULTS
Seven of 418 articles were included. Four studies reported no significant differences in ACL injury risk surrogates between MC phases. Two studies showed evidence the mid-luteal phase may predispose women to greater risk of non-contact ACL injury. Three studies reported knee laxity fluctuated across the MC; two of which demonstrated MC attributed changes in knee laxity were associated with changes in knee joint loading (KJL). Study quality (Modified Downs and Black Checklist score: 7-9) and quality of evidence were low to very low (Grading of Recommendations Assessment Development and Evaluation: very low).
CONCLUSION
It is inconclusive whether a particular MC phase predisposes women to greater non-contact ACL injury risk based on neuromuscular and biomechanical surrogates. Practitioners should be cautious manipulating their physical preparation, injury mitigation, and screening practises based on current evidence. Although variable (i.e., magnitude and direction), MC attributed changes in knee laxity were associated with changes in potentially hazardous KJLs. Monitoring knee laxity could therefore be a viable strategy to infer possible ACL injury risk.

As COVID-19 continues to impact lives and livelihoods around the world, women and girls are disproportionately affected. Crisis situations and related response measures, such as lockdowns, school closures, and travel restrictions, often exacerbate the adversities and human rights violations faced by adolescent girls. We conducted a rapid review to synthesise evidence on the impact of public health emergencies (PHEs) related to gender-based inequalities among adolescent girls.
METHODS
We systematically searched five major databases. Records were imported into the online screening tool Rayyan, and 10% of the records were triple screened for eligibility. We included qualitative, mixed-methods, and quantitative studies that assessed the relationship between PHEs and any of the following outcomes: (1) gender-based violence, (2) early/forced marriage, and (3) sexual and reproductive health. Due to the heterogeneity of included study designs, no meta-analysis was performed, and studies were summarised narratively.
FINDINGS
Out the initial 6004 articles, 11 studies met our eligibility criteria. Five of these assessed the impact of natural disasters and six were focused on consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. Seven studies focused on the impact of PHEs on gender-based violence, three focused on sexual and reproductive health, and only one study looked at early marriage. The main impacts highlighted by the studies included (1) increases in physical, psychological, and sexual abuse, (2) increase in the occurrence of teenage pregnancy, (3) poor menstruation hygiene management, and (4) occurrence of early marriages. Mechanisms underlying these impacts were PHE-specific response strategies like home confinement, closure of schools, the worsening of families' financial situation such as the inability to pay for school fees or day-to-day living costs, and the disempowerment of and increased workloads for adolescent girls.
CONCLUSION
Although evidence on the impact of COVID-19 on gender-based violence, sexual and reproductive health, and especially forced or early marriage of adolescent girls is limited, results from studies on other PHEs indicate that during crises, these detrimental outcomes are exacerbated. Findings from our review have important implications for policies and programs providing life skills training, financial literacy training, credit support, and safe spaces for adolescent girls.

Up to now, limited studies have been done to evaluate the effect of sexual activity during menstruation on the endometriosis. However, due to the menstrual-related symptoms of endometriosis, this study aimed to systematically review the published articles on the association between sexual activity through menstruation and endometriosis. This systematic review and meta-analysis was performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). This study examined all published observational studies on the association between sexual activity during menstruation and endometriosis, on the basis of the PICOS from conception until September 2021. The Newcastle-Ottawa Quality Assessment Scale was used to evaluate the quality of the articles. Also, Meta-analysis was conducted using Review Manager (RevMan 5.3). Out of the 1,905 retrieved articles of related databases, four studies comprised a total of 3641 patients (2251 cases and 1390 controls), which fulfilled the inclusion criteria, and equally encompassed high (2/4) and low (2/4) methodological quality, were reviewed. The results of all pooled studies showed that the probability of having sexual activity during menstruation is approximately two times higher in the women with endometriosis compared to women without endometriosis [odds ratio (OR)=1.80, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.12 to 2.90, P=0.02, I2=78%, Tau=0.17, Chi2=13.72, P=0.003]. In this review, the sexual activity during menstruation was found to be an influencing factor for endometriosis. Due to the importance and complexity of endometriosis and the dearth of evidence on this topic, further studies with more robust designs are recommended.

This study aimed to identify factors associated with the prevalence and severity of menstrual-related symptoms. The protocol was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42021208432). We conducted literature searches of PubMed and Ichushi-Web and used the Jonna Briggs Institute critical appraisal checklist to assess the quality. Of the 77 studies included in the meta-analysis, significant odds ratios (ORs) were obtained for eight factors associated with primary dysmenorrhea (PD): age ≥ 20 years (OR: 1.18; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.04−1.34), body mass index (BMI) < 18.5 kg/m2 (OR: 1.51; 95% CI: 1.01−2.26), longer menstrual periods (OR: 0.16; 95% CI: 0.04−0.28), irregular menstrual cycle (OR: 1.28; 95% CI: 1.13−1.45), family history of PD (OR: 3.80; 95% CI: 2.18−6.61), stress (OR: 1.88; 95% CI: 1.30−2.72), sleeping hours < 7 h (OR: 1.19; 95% CI: 1.04−1.35), and bedtime after 23:01 (OR: 1.30; 95% CI: 1.16−1.45). Two factors were associated with severity of PD (moderate vs. severe): BMI < 18.5 kg/m2 (OR: 1.89; 95% CI: 1.01−3.54) and smoking (OR: 1.94; 95% CI: 1.08−3.47). PD severity (mild vs. severe) and prevalence of premenstrual syndrome were associated with BMI < 18.5 kg/m2 (OR: 1.91; 95% CI: 1.04−3.50) and smoking (OR: 1.86; 95% CI: 1.31−2.66), respectively. The identified risk factors could be utilized to construct an appropriate strategy to improve menstrual symptoms and support women’s health.

BACKGROUND
Menstrual hygiene has not received adequate attention in Sub-Saharan Africa, and there is a lack of regional representative data. Therefore, this study aimed to estimate the pooled prevalence of good menstrual hygiene practices and associated factors among adolescent girls in sub-Saharan Africa.
METHODS
In this study, the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis guidelines were used to develop the review manuscript. Online electronic databases, such as PubMed/Medline, Google Scholar, and CINAHL, were searched to retrieve available studies. The database search was conducted from January 1 to May 17, 2022. The selection, quality assessment, and data extraction of the studies were performed. Quality assessment of the studies was performed using the Joanna Briggs Institute Meta-Analysis of Statistics Assessment and Review Instrument. Subgroup analysis and meta-regression were performed based on country, study area, and sample size. Publication bias was examined by funnel plots and Egger's test. The statistical analysis was conducted using STATA version 14 software and RevMan software, and statistical significance was declared at a p value of less than 0.05.

RESULTS
A total of 229 studies were retrieved, and 14 studies were included in the final meta-analysis. The pooled prevalence of good menstrual hygiene practices was 45% (95% CI, (37, 53). Adolescents from urban residences (OR = 3.03, 95% CI (2.3, 3.97)), able to afford menstrual sanitary products (OR = 2.17, 95% CI (1.42, 3.3)), and from educated mothers (OR = 2.33, 95% CI (1.32, 4.12)) were associated with increased odds of good menstrual hygiene practice.
CONCLUSION
The pooled prevalence of menstrual hygiene practices was low compared to the SDG 6.2 target by 2030. "Achieve access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all, paying special attention to the needs of women and girls and those in vulnerable situations". Therefore, improving the accessibility of a safe water supply, hygiene, sanitation facilities and affordability of menstrual products and promoting maternal education are mandatory and should be part of government-level public health policy to prevent related health issues, loss of economic output and education opportunities.
