AIM OF STUDY
This systematic review aimed to compare the physical-mechanical properties of 3D-printed (additively manufactured (AM)) zirconia compared to conventionally milled (subtractive manufactured: SM) zirconia specimens.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
A thorough search of Internet databases was conducted up to September 2023. The search retrieved studies that evaluated AM zirconia specimens and restorations regarding the physical-mechanical properties and mechanical behavior of zirconia. The main topic focused on 3Y-TZP. However, records of 4YSZ and 5YSZ were also included to gather more comprehensive evidence on additively manufactured zirconia ceramic. The quality of studies was assessed using the ROB2 tool, Newcastle Ottawa scale, and the Modified Consort Statement. Of 1736 records, 57 were assessed for eligibility, and 38 records were included in this review, only two clinical trials meet the inclusion criteria and 36 records were laboratory studies. There were no signs of mechanical complications and wear to antagonists with short-term clinical observation. SM thin specimens ≤1.5 mm showed statistically significant higher flexural strength than AM zirconia (p ≤ 0.01), while thicker specimens showed comparable outcomes (p > 0.5). The fracture resistance of dental restorations was dependent on the aging protocol, restoration type, and thickness. The bond strength of veneering ceramic to zirconia core was comparable.
CONCLUSIONS
The results pooled from two short-term clinical trials showed no signs of mechanical or biological complications of additively manufactured 3Y-TZP zirconia crowns. The flexural strength might depend on the specimens' thickness, but it showed promising results to be used in clinical applications, taking into account the printing technique and orientation, material composition (yttria content), solid loading, and sintering parameters. 3D-printed restorations fracture resistance improved when adhered to human teeth. The veneering ceramic bond was comparable to milled zirconia specimens. Long-term RCTs are recommended to confirm the mechanical behavior of 3D-printed restorations.

Fusion energy investigation has stepped to a new stage adopting deuterium and tritium as fuels from the previous stage concentrating hydrogen plasma physics. Special radiation safety issues would be introduced during this stage. In addition to industrial and military uses, tungsten is also regarded as the most promising plasma facing material for fusion reactors. During the operation of fusion reactors, tungsten-based plasma facing materials can be activated via neutron nuclear reaction. Meanwhile, activated tungsten dust can be produced when high-energy plasma interacts with the tungsten-based plasma facing materials, namely plasma wall interaction. Activated tungsten dust would be an emerging environmental pollutant with radiation toxicity containing various radionuclides in addition to the chemical toxicity of tungsten itself. Nonetheless, the historical underestimation of its environmental availability has led to limited research on tungsten compared to other environmental contaminants. This paper presents the first systematic review on the safety issue of emerging activated tungsten dust, encompassing source terms, environmental behaviors, and health effects. The key contents are as follows: 1) to detail the source terms of activated tungsten dust from aspects of tungsten basic properties, generation mechanism, physical morphology and chemical component, radioactivity, as well as potential release pathways, 2) to illustrate the environmental behaviors from aspects of atmospheric dispersion and deposition, transformation and migration in soil, as well as plant absorption and distribution, 3) to identify the toxicity and health effects from aspects of toxicity to plants, distribution in human body, as well as health effects by radiation and chemical toxicity, 4) based on the research progress, research and development issues needed are also pointed out to better knowledge of safety issue of activated tungsten dust, which would be beneficial to the area of fusion energy and ecological impact caused by the routine tungsten related industrial and military applications.

OBJECTIVES
In adult major trauma patients admission hypocalcaemia occurs in approximately half of cases and is associated with increased mortality. However, data amongst paediatric patients are limited. The objectives of this review were to determine the incidence of admission ionised hypocalcaemia in paediatric major trauma patients and to explore whether hypocalcaemia is associated with adverse outcomes.
METHODS
A systematic review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines. All studies including major trauma patients <18 years old, with an ionised calcium concentration obtained in the Emergency Department (ED) prior to the receipt of blood products in the ED were included. The primary outcome was incidence of ionised hypocalcaemia. Random-effects Sidik-Jonkman modelling was executed for meta-analysis of mortality and pH difference between hypo- and normocalcaemia, Odds ratio (OR) was the reporting metric for mortality. The reporting metric for the continuous variable of pH difference was Glass' D (a standardized difference). Results are reported with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) and significance was defined as p <0.05.
RESULTS
Three retrospective cohort studies were included. Admission ionised hypocalcaemia definitions ranged from <1.00 mmol/l to <1.16 mmol/l with an overall incidence of 112/710 (15.8%). For mortality, modelling with low heterogeneity (I2 39%, Cochrane's Q p = 0.294) identified a non-significant (p = 0.122) estimate of hypocalcaemia increasing mortality (pooled OR 2.26, 95% CI 0.80-6.39). For the pH difference, meta-analysis supported generation of a pooled effect estimate (I2 57%, Cochrane's Q p = 0.100). The effect estimate of the mean pH difference was not significantly different from null (p = 0.657), with the estimated pH slightly lower in hypocalcaemia (Glass D standardized mean difference -0.08, 95% CI -0.43 to 0.27).
CONCLUSION
Admission ionised hypocalcaemia was present in at least one in six paediatric major trauma patients. Ionised hypocalcaemia was not identified to have a statistically significant association with mortality or pH difference.

Electrochemical methods are increasingly favored for remediating polluted environments due to their environmental compatibility and reagent-saving features. However, a comprehensive understanding of recent progress, mechanisms, and trends in these methods is currently lacking. Web of Science (WoS) databases were utilized for searching the primary data to understand the knowledge structure and research trends of publications on electrochemical methods and to unveil certain hotspots and future trends of electrochemical methods research. The original data were sampled from 9080 publications in those databases with the search deadline of June 1, 2022. CiteSpace and VOSviewer software facilitated data visualization and analysis of document quantities, source journals, institutions, authors, and keywords. We discussed principles, influencing factors, and progress related to seven major electrochemical methods. Notably, publications on this subject have experienced significant growth since 2007. The most frequently-investigated areas in electrochemical methods included novel materials development, heavy metal remediation, organic pollutant degradation, and removal mechanism identification. "Advanced oxidation process" and "Nanocomposite" are currently trending topics. The major remediation mechanisms are adsorption, oxidation, and reduction. The efficiency of electrochemical systems is influenced by material properties, system configuration, electron transfer efficiency, and power density. Electro-Fenton exhibits significant advantages in achieving synergistic effects of anodic oxidation and electro-adsorption among the seven techniques. Future research should prioritize the improvement of electron transfer efficiency, the optimization of electrode materials, the exploration of emerging technology coupling, and the reduction in system operation and maintenance costs.

Hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) contamination of groundwater has traditionally been an environmental issue of great concern due to its bioaccumulative and highly toxic nature. This paper presents a review and bibliometric analysis of the literature on the interest area "Cr(VI) in groundwater" published in the Web of Science Core Collection from 1999 to 2022. First, information on 203 actual Cr(VI)-contaminated groundwater sites around the world was summarized, and the basic characteristics of the sources and concentrations of contamination were derived. 68.95% of the sites were due to human causes and 56.43% of these sites had Cr(VI) concentrations in the range of 0-10 mg/L. At groundwater sites with high Cr(VI) contamination due to natural causes, 75.00% of the sites had Cr(VI) concentrations less than 0.2 mg/L. A total of 936 papers on "Cr(VI) in groundwater" were retrieved for bibliometric analysis: interest in research on Cr(VI) in groundwater has grown rapidly in recent years; 59.4% of the papers were published in the field of environmental sciences. A systematic review of the progress of studies on the Cr(VI) removal/remediation based on reduction, adsorption and biological processes is presented. Out of 666 papers on Cr(VI) removal/remediation, 512, 274, and 75 papers dealt with the topics of reduction, adsorption, and bioremediation, respectively. In addition, several studies have demonstrated the potential applicability of natural attenuation in the remediation of Cr(VI)-contaminated groundwater. This paper will help researchers to understand and investigate methodological strategies to remove Cr(VI) from groundwater in a more targeted and effective manner.

BACKGROUND
Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is a prevalent hematological complication associated with gastrointestinal (GI) cancers due to an increased loss of iron and decreased iron absorption. The purpose of this systematic review is to evaluate the use of parenteral iron to treat IDA in patients with GI cancer.
METHODS
PubMed, Cochrane, EMBASE, CINHAL and Scopus were searched from January 1, 2010 to September 29, 2023 with no language restrictions. We excluded editorials, case reports, abstracts, conference papers, and poster presentations. Studies were included if they discussed IDA, GI neoplasms, use of iron supplementation (with or without erythropoietin-stimulating agents [ESAs]), defined anemia and had an adult patient population. We assessed the efficacy of parenteral iron in comparison to other iron supplementation methods when treating IDA in patients with GI cancer. The Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool 2 (RoB 2) and the Risk Of Bias In Non-randomized Studies of Interventions (ROBINS-I) assessment tools were used to assess the quality of the included studies. Moreover, the Cochrane Effective Practice and Organization data collection form was used to collect pertinent study information.
RESULTS
Our search yielded 3,969 studies across all databases. Twenty-one studies were included (6 randomized control trials; 15 non-randomized studies). Of the 15 studies evaluating hemoglobin (Hb) response, seven studies found an increase in Hb levels when patients were treated with IV iron. The 14 studies evaluating red blood cell (RBC) transfusion rates found conflicting differences in RBC transfusion needs when treated with IV iron. Studies analyzing health related outcomes typically found an increase in quality of life and decreased post-operative complications.
DISCUSSION
This review demonstrates improved outcomes of IDA in patients with GI cancer treated with IV iron instead of other iron supplementation methods. Timely diagnosis and appropriate IDA management can greatly improve quality of life in this patient population, especially if myelosuppressive chemotherapy is required.

The pathogenic fungus Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis has caused declines of amphibians worldwide. Yet our understanding of how water quality influences fungal pathogenicity is limited. Here, we reviewed experimental studies on the effect of water quality on this pathogen to determine which parameters impacted disease dynamics consistently. The strongest evidence for protective effects is salinity which shows strong antifungal properties in hosts at natural levels. Although many fungicides had detrimental effects on the fungal pathogen in vitro, their impact on the host is variable and they can worsen infection outcomes. However, one fungicide, epoxiconazole, reduced disease effects experimentally and likely in the field. While heavy metals are frequently studied, there is weak evidence that they influence infection outcomes. Nitrogen and phosphorous do not appear to impact pathogen growth or infection in the amphibian host. The effects of other chemicals, like pesticides and disinfectants on infection were mostly unclear with mixed results or lacking an in vivo component. Our study shows that water chemistry does impact disease dynamics, but the effects of specific parameters require more investigation. Improving our understanding of how water chemistry influences disease dynamics will help predict the impact of chytridiomycosis, especially in amphibian populations affected by land use changes.

INTRODUCTION
Zinc is an essential trace element involved in different physiological functions. During pregnancy, it plays a crucial role in healthy embryogenesis. Abortion is the most severe problem associated with early pregnancy complications. This study aims to compare the levels of Zn in mothers with and without abortion.
METHODS
This study is a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies published between 1980 and 2022 in PubMed, Science Direct, Pro Quest, Wiley, Web of Science, and Scopus databases. The search was conducted using both main and Mesh keywords, specifically targeting terms related to abortion, pregnancy loss, and zinc. Heterogeneity in the studies included in the meta-analysis was evaluated using statistical tests such as the chi-square test, I2, and forest plots. Publication bias was assessed using Begg's and Egger's tests. All analyses were conducted using Stata 15, and statistical significance was considered at p < 0.05.
RESULTS
In general, nine studies were included in this analysis. Based on the results of the meta-analysis, the mean difference in the Zn level between mothers with and without abortion is equal to 193.18 (95 % CI; 107.11 to 279.25, P ≤ 0.001). In other words, the level of Zn in the group of mothers without abortion is 193 units higher than the group of mothers with abortion. The investigation into the comparison of Zn levels in mothers with and without abortion did not reveal any indication of publication bias according to both Begg's test (P-value = 0.858) and Egger's test (P-value = 0.270).
CONCLUSION
the study findings indicate a significant association between lower levels of Zn in mothers with abortion compared to mothers without abortion. This suggests that a higher level of Zn may have a preventive effect on the occurrence of abortion in pregnant women. The data also highlights the positive role of trace metals, particularly Zn, in influencing pregnancy outcomes and suggests that maintaining adequate levels of Zn may reduce the likelihood of abortion occurrence, along with other contributing factors. It is important to note that further research, including prospective cohort and experimental studies, is needed to provide more substantial evidence and strengthen these findings.

OBJECTIVES
This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the current performance of artificial intelligence (AI)-based methods for tooth segmentation in three-dimensional cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images, with a focus on their accuracy and efficiency compared to those of manual segmentation techniques.
DATA
The data analyzed in this review consisted of a wide range of research studies utilizing AI algorithms for tooth segmentation in CBCT images. Meta-analysis was performed, focusing on the evaluation of the segmentation results using the dice similarity coefficient (DSC).
SOURCES
PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, and IEEE Explore were comprehensively searched to identify relevant studies. The initial search yielded 5642 entries, and subsequent screening and selection processes led to the inclusion of 35 studies in the systematic review. Among the various segmentation methods employed, convolutional neural networks, particularly the U-net model, are the most commonly utilized. The pooled effect of the DSC score for tooth segmentation was 0.95 (95 %CI 0.94 to 0.96). Furthermore, seven papers provided insights into the time required for segmentation, which ranged from 1.5 s to 3.4 min when utilizing AI techniques.
CONCLUSIONS
AI models demonstrated favorable accuracy in automatically segmenting teeth from CBCT images while reducing the time required for the process. Nevertheless, correction methods for metal artifacts and tooth structure segmentation using different imaging modalities should be addressed in future studies.
CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE
AI algorithms have great potential for precise tooth measurements, orthodontic treatment planning, dental implant placement, and other dental procedures that require accurate tooth delineation. These advances have contributed to improved clinical outcomes and patient care in dental practice.

Biochar is a carbon-rich material produced from the partial combustion of different biomass residues. It can be used as a promising material for adsorbing pollutants from soil and water and promoting environmental sustainability. Extensive research has been conducted on biochars prepared from different feedstocks used for pollutant removal. However, a comprehensive review of biochar derived from non-woody feedstocks (NWF) and its physiochemical attributes, adsorption capacities, and performance in removing heavy metals, antibiotics, and organic pollutants from water systems needs to be included. This review revealed that the biochars derived from NWF and their adsorption efficiency varied greatly according to pyrolysis temperatures. However, biochars (NWF) pyrolyzed at higher temperatures (400-800 °C) manifested excellent physiochemical and structural attributes as well as significant removal effectiveness against antibiotics, heavy metals, and organic compounds from contaminated water. This review further highlighted why biochars prepared from NWF are most valuable/beneficial for water treatment. What preparatory conditions (pyrolysis temperature, residence time, heating rate, and gas flow rate) are necessary to design a desirable biochar containing superior physiochemical and structural properties, and adsorption efficiency for aquatic pollutants? The findings of this review will provide new research directions in the field of water decontamination through the application of NWF-derived adsorbents.
