Although synaptic loss is thought to be core to the pathophysiology of schizophrenia, the nature, consistency and magnitude of synaptic protein and mRNA changes has not been systematically appraised. Our objective was thus to systematically review and meta-analyse findings. The entire PubMed database was searched for studies from inception date to the 1st of July 2017. We selected case-control postmortem studies in schizophrenia quantifying synaptic protein or mRNA levels in brain tissue. The difference in protein and mRNA levels between cases and controls was extracted and meta-analysis conducted. Among the results, we found a significant reduction in synaptophysin in schizophrenia in the hippocampus (effect size: -0.65, p < 0.01), frontal (effect size: -0.36, p = 0.04), and cingulate cortices (effect size: -0.54, p = 0.02), but no significant changes for synaptophysin in occipital and temporal cortices, and no changes for SNAP-25, PSD-95, VAMP, and syntaxin in frontal cortex. There were insufficient studies for meta-analysis of complexins, synapsins, rab3A and synaptotagmin and mRNA measures. Findings are summarised for these, which generally show reductions in SNAP-25, PSD-95, synapsin and rab3A protein levels in the hippocampus but inconsistency in other regions. Our findings of moderate-large reductions in synaptophysin in hippocampus and frontal cortical regions, and a tendency for reductions in other pre- and postsynaptic proteins in the hippocampus are consistent with models that implicate synaptic loss in schizophrenia. However, they also identify potential differences between regions and proteins, suggesting synaptic loss is not uniform in nature or extent.

PURPOSE
The purpose of this study is to study the main epidemiological, clinical, para clinical, pathological, therapeutic, and evolutionary features of patients with testicular neuroendocrine tumors (TNET).
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Nine case series and sixteen case reports were identified by searching PubMed database and qualified for inclusion in this study. We added the data of one case treated in the department of urology in Habib Bourguiba Hospital in Sfax, to the published cases.
RESULTS
A total of 132 cases were collected. Median age at diagnosis was 39 years old (range 10- 83 years). The most common presenting symptom was either a testicular mass or a swelling in 38.46% of cases. Carcinoid syndrome was documented in 10.60% of patients. The clinical examination revealed a palpable mass in 44.70% of patients. This mass was painless and firm in most cases. Serum tumor markers (β-gonadotrophine chorionique humaine, α-feto protein, and lactate dehydrogenase) were within normal limits in all patients except in one case. Most testicular neuroendocrine tumors (76.52%) were primary and pure. The tumors were positive for chromogranin (100%), synaptophysin (100%) and cytokeratin (93.10%). Metastases were detected at time of diagnosis in eight cases (6.06%). The main treatment was radical orchiectomy performed in 127 patients (96.21%). The 5-year overall survival rate was 78.70% and the 5-year specific survival rate was 84.30%.
CONCLUSION
The diagnosis of testicular carcinoids is based on the immunohistochemistry study. The treatment of choice for these tumors is radical orchiectomy. Somatostatin analogues were reported to be effective in patients with carcinoid syndrome.

Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are aggressive diseases developing from neuroendocrine cells that most frequently involve the gastro-entero-pancreatic tract and the lung, but more rarely are found in almost all body tissues. Limited biological and clinical data are currently available for NETs in uncommon sites, such as female genital tract. NETs represent 0.9% to 1.5% of the tumors of the uterine cervix. They are more likely to have lymph-vascular space invasion and lymph node involvement, and to develop local and distant relapses when compared with the mostly common cervical squamous cell carcinomas or adenocarcinomas. Positive immunostaining for synaptophysin, chromogranin, CD56, and neuron-specific enolase is often detected in cervical NETs . The most recent editions of the World Health Organization Classification of Gynecologic Tract tumors grouped cervical carcinoid tumor and atypical carcinoid tumor into low-grade NETs and cervical small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma and large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma into high-grade NETs. High-risk HPV DNA is detected in almost all cervical high-grade NETs. No treatment guidelines, based on prospective, well-designed clinical trials, are currently available due to the rarity of these tumors. Many authors have reported different multimodality approaches, mainly derived from NETs of the lung. These usually consist in radical hysterectomy followed by adjuvant chemotherapy or concurrent chemoradiation for early stage disease, definitive concurrent chemoradiation sometimes preceded by neoadjuvant chemotherapy and followed by adjuvant chemotherapy for locally advanced disease, and palliative chemotherapy for metastatic disease. In this systematic review, we address the histologic classification of cervical NETs, analyze their pathogenesis and overall prognosis, and evaluate the different treatment modalities described in the literature, in order to offer a possible algorithm that may help the clinicians in diagnosing and treating patients with these uncommon and aggressive malignancies.

INTRODUCTION
Primary paraganglioma (PG) of the thyroid gland is an extremely rare neuroendocrine tumor with potential for misdiagnosis. We describe 2 cases of thyroid PG, suggest a possible diagnostic and therapeutic management strategy, and present a systematic review of the literature.
CASE REPORTS
Two 67-year-old women presented similarly with asymptomatic but rapidly growing thyroid nodules in which malignancy was suspected after fine needle aspiration biopsy, "THY 4" according to the 2014 SIAPEC classification, both undergoing total thyroidectomy. Unexpectedly, immunohistochemistry showed neuroendocrine cellular architecture that was negative for common markers of well-differentiated follicular neoplasms, thyroglobulin, thyroid transcription factor 1, cytokeratins and medullary thyroid cancer, calcitonin, carcinoembryonic antigen, whereas neuron-specific enolase, synaptophysin, chromogranin A, and S-100 protein were highly expressed, confirming the diagnosis of primary thyroid PG. The patients were both discharged on postoperative day 2, without any other therapy and are currently well without evidence of local recurrence of metastatic disease, after 4 years and 3 months of follow-up, respectively.
DISCUSSION
These are the only 2 cases of thyroid PG experienced in our center which specializes in thyroid surgery. Thyroid PG is a rare neuroendocrine neoplasm first described by Van Miert in 1964 with just over 50 cases reported in the literature. Our experience is concordant with the literature that the diagnosis of the primary PG of the thyroid is challenging, due to its low prevalence and the cytologic and histopathologic similarities with other more frequently diagnosed benign and malignant thyroid tumors. Immunohistochemistry is required for definitive diagnosis but gross tumor characteristics are also helpful for diagnosis. Surgical resection is the recommended standard treatment.
