Untreated canals are a primary cause of persistent apical periodontitis, and the inability to identify and adequately treat canals has been considered a major cause of failure of root canal therapy in maxillary molars. The purpose of this retrospective study was to use cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) to quantify the number of missed canals in maxillary first and second molars needing endodontic retreatment after treatment by general dentists. A total of 401 CBCT scans of maxillary first and second molars were examined. A total of 214 scan sets (53.37% [95% CI, 48.48%-58.25%]) showed evidence of an untreated canal, with the highest rate (49.38%; n = 198) observed in the second mesiobuccal canal. Imaging revealed that multiple canals were missed in some patients, for a total of 225 missed canals. The examinations showed untreated first mesiobuccal canals in 2.99% of CBCT scan sets (n = 12), untreated distobuccal canals in 2.99% of CBCT scan sets (n = 12), and untreated palatal canals in 0.75% of CBCT scan sets (n = 3). Preoperative CBCT imaging should be considered prior to initial root canal treatment of maxillary molars. When the risks and limitations of CBCT are taken into consideration, the additional information it provides can improve diagnostic accuracy, increase confidence in decision-making, and positively impact treatment planning.

BACKGROUND
Work-related disability is caused commonly due to musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) in dentistry. Prolonged static awkward and repetitive postures cause MSD in dentists. The study was executed to confirm the development of MSD in various body regions as they have to work in a small oral cavity to perform crucial dental procedures with precision and concentration.
OBJECTIVE
To assess the occurrence of the MSD in several body regions of dentists and to carry out postural study thereby helping them improve posture.
METHODS
Dentists were assessed for their current working postures with various MSD symptoms and its effects. The questionnaire was devised to get musculoskeletal health data from dentists. The postural load was investigated using Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA). Various risk factors contributing to MSD symptoms were identified after data were statistically analysed using IBM SPSS version 27.
RESULTS
According to the current study neck, shoulder, lower back, upper back, wrist hand, elbow, hip, thigh, knee, and ankle were the most affected anatomical regions. Average RULA score for the current study was found to be 6.75 which indicated a need of change of posture while performing dental procedures. There is statistical correlation between gender, Body Mass Index (BMI), uncomfortable positions, stretching, use of ergonomic saddle chair, hand dominance and MSD. There is no statistical correlation between years of experience and MSD.
CONCLUSION
Current workstation (Dental Chair) requires immediate improvements as evident from the postural load analysis, thus immediate implementation of intervention program is required.

OBJECTIVE
The aim of the study is measuring the magnitude and determining the method of finger pressure exerted by doctors on ceramic veneers during their fixation.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
A simulation model was designed in order to measure the volume of finger pressure. Veneers were produced for 2 central incisors. Doctors alternately placed veneers on the model and applied pressure on them for 20 seconds simulating the clinical stage of cementing. The operator recorded the maximum readings of the scales and entered the result on the research protocol. In addition, it was recorded which finger the doctor exerts on the veneer during its cementing to ensure a tight fit: thumb or index finger.
RESULTS
The values obtained during cementation of 54% doctors ranged up to 1 kg, 27% of doctors from 1 to 2 kg and only 19% more than 2 kg. 80% of doctors applied the main pressure on the veneer using their thumb, while the pressure force was 1.4 kg. For those doctors who pressed the veneer to the tooth with their index finger, the impact value was 0.8 kg.
CONCLUSION
The finger pressure on the veneer during cementation applied by dentists varies, the average pressure on the veneers was about 1.5 kg. The amount of pressure on cement during laboratory tests of cements for fixing veneers differs from clinical values many times. The development of a veneers fixation protocol, taking into account the conducted research, will ensure a reliable and accurate fit of the veneer at the stage of its cementing.

BACKGROUND
Information about the range of Hounsfield values for healthy teeth tissues could become an additional tool in assessing dental health and could be used, among other data, for subsequent machine learning.
OBJECTIVE
The purpose of our study was to determine dental tissue densities in Hounsfield units (HU).
METHODS
The total sample included 36 healthy children (n=21, 58% girls and n=15, 42% boys) aged 10-11 years at the time of the study. The densities of 320 teeth tissues were analyzed. Data were expressed as means and SDs. The significance was determined using the Student (1-tailed) t test. The statistical significance was set at P<.05.
RESULTS
The densities of 320 teeth tissues were analyzed: 72 (22.5%) first permanent molars, 72 (22.5%) permanent central incisors, 27 (8.4%) second primary molars, 40 (12.5%) tooth germs of second premolars, 37 (11.6%) second premolars, 9 (2.8%) second permanent molars, and 63 (19.7%) tooth germs of second permanent molars. The analysis of the data showed that tissues of healthy teeth in children have different density ranges: enamel, from mean 2954.69 (SD 223.77) HU to mean 2071.00 (SD 222.86) HU; dentin, from mean 1899.23 (SD 145.94) HU to mean 1323.10 (SD 201.67) HU; and pulp, from mean 420.29 (SD 196.47) HU to mean 183.63 (SD 97.59) HU. The tissues (enamel and dentin) of permanent central incisors in the mandible and maxilla had the highest mean densities. No gender differences concerning the density of dental tissues were reliably identified.
CONCLUSIONS
The evaluation of Hounsfield values for dental tissues can be used as an objective method for assessing their densities. If the determined densities of the enamel, dentin, and pulp of the tooth do not correspond to the range of values for healthy tooth tissues, then it may indicate a pathology.

The aim of this study was to train dentists on the different oral hygiene measures to be followed by COVID-19 patients via Webinar and Information Education Communication (IEC) Materials and compare the effectiveness of both. A total of 100 dental professionals were included by non-probability convenience sampling. Webinar and IEC Materials on oral hygiene measures, oral symptoms, and management strategies during COVID-19 were created and training was conducted for all dental professionals who registered themselves. An online version of the self-administered questionnaire (English) was created on the official Edantseva website and circulated to all the registered participants to obtain the pre and post-training data. Out of the total 80 participants in the Webinar group, 47 were females and 33 were males. Comparing the mean total scores obtained by the participants in the webinar and IEC groups in the pre and post-test showed that there is a significant difference in the scores obtained by the participants in the two groups in the pre and post-test (p<0.01). Educating dentists via IEC Materials was effective in improving their knowledge regarding oral health management during the COVID-19 pandemic. IEC materials being handy and referable at any time was found to be more effective.

Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) has been demonstrated to be effective in arresting caries lesions and, recently, clinical trials have assessed the effectiveness of SDF as a medicament for indirect pulp therapy (IPT) in primary teeth. This review aims to summarize the literature related to the use of SDF and find out if SDF can be used as an effective material for IPT. A literature search was undertaken on electronic databases including PubMed, MEDLINE, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar, which elicited 50 studies employing different materials in the IPT of primary molars; however, of them, only four clinical trials used SDF as indirect pulp capping (IPC) material. SDF has the potential to be a useful material for IPT in primary teeth. It is a handy choice for pediatric dentists due to its minimum invasiveness, ease of application, and ability to stop the progression of caries. However, more studies are needed to determine whether SDF can be used routinely for IPT and whether it can even replace the currently available materials, as well as to fully realize its potential and establish criteria for its ideal application in IPT procedures.

This study aimed to investigate the referral rates of oral lichen planus (OLP) and untreated hepatitis virus-infected patients by dentists to hepatologists.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
The study was conducted at three dental clinics in the Oita prefecture between November 2021 and June 2023. Two distinct groups of patients who visited the dentist for dental treatment were included: those with liver disease and concurrent hepatitis C virus (HCV) or hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and those diagnosed with OLP. The rate of medical referrals to a hepatologist was investigated. Data on the number of patients, gender, age, diagnosis of liver disease, and referral practices were collected from the records submitted by each dental clinic. Information about the HCV and HBV infection status was collected through interviews with the dentists.
RESULTS
A total of 1,665 patients were included, of which 10 were HCV-infected, five were HBV-infected, and six were diagnosed with OLP. None of the 15 patients with liver disease were referred to a hepatologist by their dentists. Nine out of the 10 HCV-infected patients had achieved sustained virological response (SVR) after antiviral treatment. Of the six patients with OLP, one had a history of HBV infection, one had severe fatty liver, and the remaining four had normal livers; five of the OLP patients were referred to a hepatologist (83.3%).
CONCLUSION
A high referral rate from dentists to hepatologists was observed among the OLP patients. However, the study highlighted the difficulties in identifying hepatitis patients and establishing appropriate medical coordination in dental institutions.

Introduction The International Caries Classification and Management System (ICCMS) was developed to standardise caries diagnosis, risk assessment and treatment decisions based on overall evidence. To evaluate its criteria in practice, a clinical trial assessed professionals' perceptions of two caries management systems.Methods A perception questionnaire was administered to two groups: one using ICCMS criteria and the other based on professional experience criteria (non-ICCMS group). The online questionnaire included quantitative scale questions to measure effort and satisfaction and two open-ended questions to collect the positive and negative perceptions of dentists by using either criteria system. The questionnaires were administered six months after the study's implementation.Results Both groups showed high levels of effort and satisfaction. Professionals using ICCMS reported more positive perceptions by citing improved diagnosis (71.4%) and standardised patient care (43%). However, they also noted negative aspects, such as increased number of questionnaires and records (58%), longer clinical sessions (43%) and higher rates of patient absenteeism (29%).Conclusion Professionals who used the ICCMS had a positive outlook on the system, with benefits seen in diagnosis and patient monitoring. However, there is room for improvement in terms of automation and simplification to enhance the professional use of the system in the clinical setting.

OBJECTIVE
This study aims to explore dentists' knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions regarding antibiotic use.
METHODS
We conducted a systematic review of dentists' knowledge, attitudes and perceptions regarding antibiotic use, by searching the MEDLINE, EMBASE and Web of Science for all original paper published from January 1990 to July 2023, in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA 2020) guidelines.
RESULTS
The review included 37 papers, (7 qualitative and 30 quantitative studies). Modifiable factors (knowledge, attitudes) were reported as being associated with antibiotic prescribing by dentists which were cited in 30 of the 37. These attitudes most frequently identified by dentists were: complacency (22/29); lack of trust (16/29); the need to postpone the dental procedure (17/29); and fear (8/29). Gaps in knowledge were also identified (15/29). Only one of the included articles quantified the influence between the reported modifiable factors and antibiotic prescribing.
CONCLUSIONS
The review emphasizes that dentists' antibiotic prescribing is predominantly influenced by modifiable factors. This insight informs the potential for targeted interventions to curtail inappropriate antibiotic use, contributing to global efforts in reducing antibiotic resistance.
