PURPOSE
To determine the variation of OXIS contact areas in primary molars using digital impressions generated from an intraoral scanner (IOS).
METHODS
A cross-sectional study was carried out on 214 caries-free posterior quadrants of 80 children (38 males and 42 females) aged 3-6 years. Calibration of taking digital impressions with the IOS procedure was performed initially through scanning of ten quadrants of children to provide a learning environment to the examiner. The digital impressions were then exported, and the type of interproximal contact areas present between the distal surface of the primary first molar and the mesial surface of the primary second molar were identified according to the OXIS classification. The prevalence of the types of OXIS contact areas was expressed in the form of numbers and percentages. The chi-square test was applied to investigate the variability among the arches and to understand the association of OXIS contact areas across age, gender, and arches.
RESULTS
The most common contact area type observed was I-type (59.8%), followed by S-type (15.4%), X-type (12.6%), and O-type (12.2%). The I-type contact area was most frequently seen in both males (51.6%) and females (65.5%), while the S-type contact area in males (14.7%) and X-type contact area in females (8.4% each) were the least frequent with no statistical significance between genders (p > 0.05). All three age groups studied showed the highest prevalence of the I-type contact area, which increased with an increase in age (p < 0.05). The inter-arch comparison showed a significant result in terms of the X-type contact area on the right side, and O-type, X-type, and I-type contact areas on the left side, while no statistical difference was seen in the intra-arch comparison for all contact types.
CONCLUSION
I-type contact areas were the most prevalent across the arches, age groups and genders.

Immediate Loading Using the Digitalized Customized Restoration of Single-tooth Implants Placed in Fresh Extraction Sockets in the Aesthetic Anterior Maxilla: A 10-Year Prospective Study of Marginal Bone Level.
AIM
The objective of this study was to assess marginal bone level around single implants inserted in fresh extraction sockets in the anterior maxillary region and instantly restored with computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing customized temporary crowns cemented on the final abutment.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
A total of 20 patients (15 females and 5 males, with a mean age of 30 years), where 20 were placed in fresh extraction sockets. After raising a full-thickness flap, atraumatic extraction was performed the implant site was prepared and fixtures were stabilized on the palatal bone wall. The implant location was immediately transmitted to the prepared master model using the pick-up impression coping seated in the surgical guide template. Prefabricated abutments were used as the final abutment on the master model, scanned and the crown was planned using computer-aided manufacturing customized software. Later on 8th weeks, abutments were torqued as per the manufacturer's recommendation, and the final crowns were cemented. Using personalized intraoral radiographs marginal bone level was evaluated mesially and distally to the implant shoulder as a reference at implant placement, 8 weeks, 1, 3, 5, and 10 years after loading.
RESULTS
Wholly implants were osteo-integrated positively after 10 years of practical loading, but only 18 were available for clinical and radiological follow-up, and 2 patients with two implants were excluded from the study due to relocation abroad without any implant failure. The average marginal bone loss (MBL) in the current report was 0.16 ± 0.167 mm at crown cementation, 0.275 ± 0.171 mm after 1 year, 0.265 ± 0.171 mm after 3 years, 0.213 ± 0.185 mm after 5 years, and 0.217 ± 0.194 mm at 10 years.
CONCLUSION
The strategy of inserting and not removing the final abutment at the time of implant placement facilitates the establishment of adequate attachment of both soft and hard tissues to the abutment surface, ensuring uninterrupted organization of tissue architecture and offers advantages in helping maintain soft tissue maturation and preventing marginal bone level.
CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE
Immediately loaded implants in freshly extracted sockets lead to a significant reduction in marginal ridge resorption. The use of a temporary crown on a prefabricated abutment, exclusive of successive abutment manipulation, proved effective in preserving the primarily founding blood clot and served as a prototype for shaping the soft tissue around the previously wounded gum. BACKGROUND
Since the beginning of modern endodontics, there have been many concepts, strategies, and techniques for root canal preparation. A mind-boggling variety of files have developed for negotiating and shaping them throughout the years. Today's most secure, most effective, and simplest file system combines the most reliable design elements of the past with the latest technological advances to create the most effective file system. So, the need for the study is to evaluate the fracture strength of tooth roots following canal preparation by three rotary file systems: ProTaper Universal file system (Dentsply, USA), ProTaper Next file system (Dentsply Sirona USA), and Neolix A1 nickel-titanium (NiTi) file system (Orikam Healthcare India Pvt Ltd., New Delhi, India).
METHOD
Ninety human mandibular molars were selected for the study. Inclusion criteria include human mandibular first and second molars and teeth removed for routine clinical reasons, and intact apices were selected, excluding cases with root surface caries, root surface fissures, teeth with immature root apex, mesial canal fusion, extremely short roots, thin roots, or curved roots. All teeth were preserved in a solution of 10% neutral buffered formalin for two weeks and then transferred to distilled water for examination. The teeth were randomly divided into three groups. Access cavities were created, and working lengths were determined. Groups 1, 2, and 3 underwent shaping using ProTaper Universal, ProTaper Next, and Neolix A1 (NiTi) file systems, respectively, following guidelines. Canals were irrigated with sodium hypochlorite and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and were obturated up to the mid-root region with AH Plus sealer. To facilitate fracture testing, obturation was performed to distribute the load from the spreader to the canal wall. The EndoSequence and Quick-Fill obturation system were utilized to fill the apical half of the canal with gutta-percha material. After obturation, the distal root of each tooth was cut, while the mesial root was securely positioned in a putty material. A universal testing machine was employed for the fracture tests, operating at a cross-head speed of 1 mm/min. The machine was equipped with a D11 hand spreader tip, which was inserted into the root canal to make contact with the gutta-percha. Gradual force was applied to the root canal until a fracture occurred, at which point the force application was stopped. The amount of force required to cause the fracture was measured in newtons. Data were collected and recorded using IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 17.0 (Released 2008; IBM Corp., Armonk, New York, United States) and then transferred to Microsoft Excel for analysis. Descriptive statistics, mean, and standard deviation were used for continuous data. The fracture resistance of dental roots treated with three types of files was compared using a one-way ANOVA. Graphs were generated using Excel and Word. A significance level of p<0.01 was chosen.
RESULT
ANOVA indicated significant differences in mean fracture resistance: Neolix A1 (NiTi) (95.3 N) > NEXT (91.0 N) > universal (86.6 N), with a p-value of 0.004 (<0.001), confirming statistical significance.
CONCLUSION
The study concludes that the canal instrumented with Neolix A1 (NiTi) exhibits higher fracture resistance after canal instrumentation compared to ProTaper Next and ProTaper Universal.

Background This study aimed to compare the radicular dentin thickness in single-rooted maxillary and mandibular anterior and premolar teeth by measuring on four different surfaces (buccal, lingual, mesial, and distal) at three different levels (apical, middle, and coronal). Methods A total of 150 single-rooted human anterior and premolar teeth were included in the present study. The teeth were sectioned at the cemento-enamel junction (CEJ; coronal), 4 mm away from the apex (apical), and the midpoint between these two distances (middle). First, the teeth were divided buccolingually into two parts, and the dentin thickness in the mesial/distal region was measured. Subsequently, both parts were divided again to measure the dentin thickness in the buccal/lingual region. All measurements were recorded, and statistical analysis was performed. Results Apical radicular dentin thickness was significantly less than CEJ (p < 0.001). The maxillary central incisor, maxillary, and mandibular canine exhibited the maximum radicular dentin thickness, whereas the mandibular premolars showed the minimum. Radicular dentin thicknesses on the lingual and buccal surfaces were significantly higher than those on other surfaces (p < 0.001). Conclusion The lowest radicular dentin thickness values were observed in the premolars, especially on mesial and distal surfaces. Considering these areas as danger zones and paying attention during dental procedures are essential to avoid possible complications.

PURPOSE
To validate an innovative 3D volumetric method of evaluating tissue changes proposed by Lee et al in 2020 by comparing the results of this method-in which the scanned peri-implant surfaces were transformed, visualized, and analyzed as 3D objects-to the results reported by an existing method based on calculation of the mean distance between measured surfaces. The null hypothesis was that there was no statistically significant difference between the two methods. Additionally, the present study evaluated peri-implant tissue changes 5 years after single implant placement in the esthetic zone.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Both methods were applied to 11 oral implant site casts (6 maxillary central incisor sites, 5 maxillary lateral incisor sites) taken from 11 patients at crown placement and at follow-up examinations 5 years later. The methods are based on digital workflows in which the reference and 5-year casts are scanned and the resulting STL files are superimposed and analyzed for three regions of interest (mesial papilla, central area, and distal papilla). The volumetric changes reported by the Lee et al method and the mean distance method were calculated and compared using the Spearman rank correlation coefficient (P < .01) and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test (P < .05).
RESULTS
The correlation between the two sets of measurements was very high (Spearman rank correlation coefficient = 0.885). The new volumetric method indicated a mean volume loss of 2.82 mm3 (SD: 5.06), while the method based on the measurement of mean distance showed a mean volume loss of 2.92 mm3 (SD: 4.43; Wilcoxon signed-rank test result: P = .77). No statistically significant difference was found. The two methods gave equivalent results, and the null hypothesis was accepted.
CONCLUSIONS
The new volumetric method was validated and can be considered a trustworthy tool.

The impressive †Oncorhynchus rastrosus of the Pacific Northwest's Miocene and Pliocene eras was the largest salmonid ever to live. It sported a hypertrophied premaxilla with a pair of enlarged teeth which the original describers reconstructed as projecting ventrally into the mouth, leading them to assign the species to "Smilodonichthys," a genus now in synonymy. Through CT reconstruction of the holotype and newly collected specimens, we demonstrate that the famed teeth projected laterally like tusks, not ventrally like sabers or fangs. We also expand the original description to characterize sexual dimorphism in mature, breeding individuals. Male and female †Oncorhynchus rastrosus differ in the form of the vomer, rostro-dermethmoid-supraethmoid, and dentary, much as do other extant species of Oncorhynchus. Male specimens possess a more elongate vomer than do females, and female vomers have concave ventral surfaces and prominent median dorsal keels. The dentary of females has no evidence of a kype, though some specimens of †O. rastrosus have a non-uniform density mesial to the tooth bed, which we interpret as a male kype. Unlike extant Oncorhynchus, male and female †O. rastrosus do not differ in premaxilla shape. Because male and females possess hypertrophied premaxillae and lateral premaxillary spikes, the former common name "Sabertoothed Salmon" no longer reflects our understanding of the species' morphology. Accordingly, we redub †O. rastrosus the Spike-Toothed Salmon and postulate that its spikes were multifunctional, serving as defense against predators, in agonism against conspecifics, and as a practical aid to nest construction.

Orthodontic uprighting or traction of an impacted mandibular second molar often necessitates invasive interventions. This report aims to illustrate the utilization of nickel-titanium wire segments inserted into small, simple tubes for uprighting mesially impacted mandibular second molars and also for scissor bite correction. The term "simple tube" refers to a tube without a bonding base attached to a tooth surface by covering it with flowable composite resin. Due to the absence of a bonding base, the simple tube is characterized by its diminutive size and minimal profile height, facilitating placement on partially exposed second molars and unconventional positioning to adjust the force geometry. In this case study, mesially-impacted mandibular second molars with scissor bite were uprighted in a 21-year-old male utilizing simple tubes. Simple tubes can be used for molar uprighting and scissor bite correction buccally and lingually.

Cone-beam computed tomographic evaluation to estimate the prevalence of palatogingival groove in the maxillary anterior teeth and its radiographic characteristics: An institutional retrospective study.
AIM
The purpose of the study was to radiographically evaluate the prevalence of palatogingival groove (PG) in the East Indian population in the maxillary anterior teeth in different genders, its unilateral/bilateral presentation, classified based on its radiographic characteristics, to determine the prevalence of different types, which could help in future treatment planning.
STUDY DESIGN
The design of the study was a retrospective study.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Analysis of 429 maxillary anterior teeth (144 central incisors, 145 lateral incisors, and 139 canines) in 72 cone-beam computed tomography scans was done (31 males and 41 females, mean age 27.3 ± 7.63). Demographic details of patients and characteristics of PG, i.e. location, extension, depth, and type, were recorded. The presence of alveolar bone loss and periapical pathology was noted.
RESULTS
An overall prevalence of PG was found to be 2.33% ( = 10), with PG being detected in 2 (1.388%) central incisors, 8 (5.51%) lateral incisors, and 0 (0%) canines. Eight of the patients had a unilateral presence, while one patient reported with bilateral presence, implying a significantly higher predilection of unilateral occurrence ( = 0.02). The prevalence was found to be higher in females ( = 8). The teeth were categorized as either having Type I (6 teeth), Type II (3 teeth), or Type III (1 teeth). Three of the 10 PGs were present in the mesial, six in the mid-palatal, and one in the distal portion of the palatal surface.
CONCLUSIONS
The prevalence of PG in the maxillary incisors in this cohort is 2.33%. The maxillary lateral incisors are the most affected teeth. Unilateral presentation is more common.

PURPOSE
This study's purpose was to evaluate the effect of simulated in vitro hydrostatic pulpal pressure (HPP) on microleakage.
METHODS AND MATERIALS
Extracted third molars (n=12) were sectioned 5 mm below the cementoenamel junction, pulp tissue removed, and the sectioned crowns mounted on a Plexiglas plate penetrated by an 18-gauge stainless steel tube. The mounted specimen mesial surface received a 2×4×6 mm Class V preparation followed by restoration with a strongly acidic, one-step dental adhesive and a flowable microfilled resin, following all manufacturers' instructions. Restorations were finished to contour, and tubing was attached to a 20-cm elevated, 0.2% rhodamine G reservoir to the specimen steel tube for 48 hours. Specimens then received a nail polish coating to within 1 mm of the restoration margins and were placed in 2% methylene blue (MB) dye for 24 hours, followed by rinsing, embedding in epoxy resin, and sectioning into 1 mm slices using a diamond saw. Controls were intact molars (n=12) processed as above but without HPP. Specimen slices were evaluated using laser confocal microscopy with images exported to ImageJ software with microleakage assessed as the MB linear penetration as a percentage of the total interfacial wall length. Mean values were evaluated with the Kruskal Wallis/Dunn test at a 95% confidence level.
RESULTS
The control specimens demonstrated significantly greater (p<0.0001) MB penetration than experimental specimens with simulated HPP. Under this study's conditions, simulated HPP significantly decreased MB dye penetration.
CONCLUSION
Studies accomplished without simulated HPP may overestimate microleakage results.

Dental implant restorations attached to cement can potentially result in peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis if cement residues are present. Effectively predicting and eliminating such dental cement residues is crucial for preventing complications. This study focuses on creating a regression model using the pixel values to predict the Excess Cement Residues (ECR) by employing an octagonal surface imaging approach. A model featuring gingival imitation, ten abutments, and ten crowns was created, and the cemented implants underwent thorough photographic and analytical assessment. The ECR was determined through two distinct approaches: the Computerized Planimetric Method (CPM) and the weighing method. Across ten implants in this in vitro study, ECR varied from 0.3 to 21 mg, with an average of 5.69 mg. The findings reveal a higher amount of ECR on the distal, mesiobuccal, and mesial sides. Utilizing Pearson's correlation, a coefficient value of = 0.786 signifies a strong correlation between CPM and the weighing method. The regression model further aids in predicting ECR based on pixel values. The octagonal surface imaging approach not only vividly captures information about ECR in the implant cementation region but also emphasizes the feasibility of ImageJ as an effective tool for detecting ECR. The congruence between CPM and the weighing method results supports the application of the regression model for precise ECR prediction.
