BACKGROUND
1.8% of youth identify as transgender; a growing proportion are transgender male (female sex, male gender identity). Many receive gonadotropin releasing hormone agonist (GnRHa) therapy to suppress endogenous puberty and/or will start testosterone to induce secondary sex characteristics that align with gender identity.
OBJECTIVES
To determine the effects of 12 months of testosterone on cardiometabolic health among transgender youth, including insulin sensitivity, body composition, and bone mineral density and whether changes in outcomes differ based on prior GnRHa treatment.
METHODS
Participants (n = 19, baseline age 15.0 ± 1.0 years) were examined prior to and 12 months after testosterone therapy in a longitudinal observational study. Fasted morning blood draw, a 2-hour 75-gram oral glucose tolerance test, body composition and bone mineral density (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry) were assessed at baseline and 12 months. Insulin sensitivity was estimated by HOMA-IR and Matsuda index. Changes were compared with mixed linear regression models evaluating time (baseline, 12 months), group (GnRHa treatment yes/no), and their interaction.
RESULTS
In the entire cohort, fasted insulin decreased (median [25,75 %ile]: -3 [-5, 0] mIU/L, p = 0.044) and 2-hour glucose increased (mean ± standard deviation): +18.5 ± 28.9 mg/dL, p = 0.013 from baseline after 12 months of testosterone therapy. There were no significant changes in HOMA-IR (p = 0.062) or Matsuda index (p = 0.096), nor by GnRHa status. Absolute (+6.2 [4.7, 7.5] kg, p = 0.016) and percent fat-free mass increased (+7.3 [5.4, 9.1] %, p = 0.003) and percent fat mass declined (-7.4 [-9.3, 5.3]%, p = 0.005) for the entire cohort. There were time*group interactions for absolute (p = 0.0007) and percent fat-free mass (p = 0.033). There were time*group interactions for bone mineral content (p = 0.006).
CONCLUSIONS
Twelve months of testosterone in transgender adolescents resulted in changes in body composition and bone mineral density, with baseline differences between the +/-GnRHa group and convergence after 12 months. There were no changes in insulin sensitivity over time or between groups.

Cancer therapy has moved from single agents to more mechanism-based targeted approaches. In recent years, the combination of HDAC inhibitors and other anticancer chemicals has produced exciting progress in cancer treatment. Herein, we developed a novel prodrug via the ligation of dichloroacetate to selenium-containing potent HDAC inhibitors. The effect and mechanism of this compound in the treatment of prostate cancer were also studied. The concerned prodrug SeSA-DCA was designed and synthesized under mild conditions. This compound's preclinical studies, including the pharmacokinetics, cell toxicity, and anti-tumor effect on prostate cancer cell lines, were thoroughly investigated, and its possible synergistic mechanism was also explored and discussed. SeSA-DCA showed good stability in physiological conditions and could be rapidly decomposed into DCA and selenium analog of SAHA (SeSAHA) in the tumor microenvironment. CCK-8 experiments identified that SeSA-DCA could effectively inhibit the proliferation of a variety of tumor cell lines, especially in prostate cancer. In further studies, we found that SeSA-DCA could also inhibit the metastasis of prostate cancer cell lines and promote cell apoptosis. At the animal level, oral administration of SeSA-DCA led to significant tumor regression without obvious toxicity. Moreover, as a bimolecular coupling compound, SeSA-DCA exhibited vastly superior efficacy than the mixture with equimolar SeSAHA and DCA both and . Our findings provide an important theoretical basis for clinical prostate cancer treatment. Our and results showed that SeSA-DCA is a highly effective anti-tumor compound for PCa. It can effectively induce cell cycle arrest and growth suppression and inhibit the migration and metastasis of PCa cell lines compared with monotherapy. SeSA-DCA's ability to decrease the growth of xenografts is a little better than that of docetaxel without any apparent signs of toxicity. Our findings provide an important theoretical basis for clinical prostate cancer treatment.

As an abundant marine bioresource, tunicates could be exploited in the food industry. However, limited knowledge of their chemical composition and nutritional profiles prohibited further application. In this study, two common edible tunicate species, (HR) and (HA), were subjected to comprehensive composition analysis in terms of moisture, protein, lipids, cellulose, ash, amino acids, fatty acids, non-cellulose carbohydrates and minerals. Reddish HR was much bigger than purple HA with respect to body length and weight, and their moisture fell within 82.98 %-90.92 %. The non-edible outer shell part (OS) and edible internal organs part (IO) had a dry weight ratio of around 3:2 for both two species. Generally, for both HR and HA, IO was more abundant in protein and lipids. In contrast, OS had much higher cellulose contents, confirming the better suitability of IO as a nutritional seafood. IO was richer in essential amino acids and unsaturated fatty acids, while OS had more abundant saturated fatty acids. The detected non-cellulose monosugars ranged from 0.47 % to 1.18 % and indicated the presence of some sulfated glycans. IO of HR had higher contents of essential minerals, such as Cu, Zn, and Fe, while IO of HA showed a higher K content. To sum up, this study identified the chemical composition and nutritional profile variations among different tunicate species and various dissected parts, guiding the development of specific strategies to exploit tunicates for proper food applications.

Microbes are a worthwhile organism of the earth that could be formulated as consortium which can be utilized as biofertilizers. Consortium-based bioinoculants or biofertilizers are superior to single strain-based inoculants for sustainable agricultural productivity and increased micronutrient content in yield. The aim of present study was to evaluate the effect of different combinations of beneficial bacteria that are more effective than single-based bioinoculants. The current work focuses on the isolation of rhizospheric microorganisms from various cereals and pseudocereal crops and the development of a single inoculum as well as a bacterial consortium which were evaluated on wheat crop. A total 214 rhizospheric bacteria were sorted out and, screened for mineral solubilizing attributes i.e., phosphorus, potassium, zinc and selenium solubilization. Among all the bacterial isolates, four potential strains exhibiting P, K, Zn and Se-solubilizing attributes were identified with the help of 16S rRNA gene sequencing as EU-A3Rb1, EU-A2RNL1, EU-C3SK2, and EU-WRSe4, respectively. The identified strains formulated as a consortium which were found to improve the plant growth and physiological parameters in comparison to single culture inoculants and control. To the best of our knowledge, the present investigation is the first report that has developed the consortium from bacterial strains EU-A3Rb1, EU-A2RNL1, EU-C3SK2, and EU-WRSe4. A combination of bacterial strains could be used as liquid inoculants for cereal crops growing in mountainous regions.

subsp. Scop. (sea rocket) is a succulent halophyte with significant potential as a nutritious food source, being rich in essential nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. This annual species exhibits two distinct leaf morphotypes: entire lamina (EL) and pinnatifid lamina (PL). Our understanding of their ecophysiological and nutritional profiles is still limited. The present study investigated the wild EL and PL sea rocket plants from southern Italy during their vegetative stage. The bio-morphological traits (leaf mass area-LMA, dry matter and chlorophyll concentrations), main inorganic ions, key antioxidants (carotenoids, anthocyanins, phenols, flavonoids, glucosinolates, vitamin C as ascorbic and dehydroascorbic acid), and antioxidant activity (by FRAP, DPPH, ABTS assays) were analyzed. Additionally, photosynthetic gas exchange and chlorophyll fluorescence were measured. PL plants showed thicker leaves (higher LMA) and greater accumulation of photo-protective pigments (carotenoids and anthocyanins), despite similar chlorophyll levels. The PL plants also demonstrated higher photosynthetic activity, transpiration rates, and stomatal conductance, with reduced non-photochemical quenching. The EL morphotype had higher cation (K, Mg, Ca, Na) and vitamin C (135.3 mg 100 g FW) concentrations, while no significant disparities were observed between the morphotypes in phenolic concentration (208.5 mg g.a.e. 100 g FW), flavonoids (71.5 mg q.e. 100 g FW), or glucosinolates (61 mg g FW). Interestingly, while the EL type had higher vitamin C, the PL morphotype showed superior antioxidant activity (FRAP, DPPH) and seems to be better adapted to water/nutrient scarcity typical of southern Italy. Both morphotypes offer potential as high-nutritional foods, however, future research should investigate the genotype-specific production of antioxidant compounds in EL and PL plants in response to environmental stresses, including salinity for potential exploitation as a new crop.

Oligocene-Pliocene shale reservoirs in the Western Qaidam Depression represent typical mixed shale deposits characterized by moderate organic matter (OM) abundance and sufficient OM maturity, indicating substantial shale-oil resource potential. Here, a comprehensive study was conducted to analyze the reservoir characteristics of different shale types, including the Upper Xiaganchaigou (late Oligocene), Shangganchaigou (Miocene), and Xiayoushashan (early Pliocene) Formations in the Western Qaidam Depression. Our analysis focused on the pore structural characteristics of shale reservoirs, employing X-ray diffraction, casting thin sections, scanning electron microscopy, low-temperature nitrogen adsorption, and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) as investigative techniques. Our results show that (1) the study area comprises five typical shale types: lime shale, argillaceous shale, limestone, argillaceous limestone, and mudstone. The best hydrocarbon source rock conditions are found in the lime shale and argillaceous shale. (2) Inorganic pores, including dissolution pores, intergranular pores, bedding fractures, structural fractures, and intraparticle pores in clay minerals, are the main pore types found in the studied samples and constitute the primary reservoir space for shale oil. On the basis of fractal dimensions obtained through NMR, the pores can be classified as micropores (<100 nm), mesopores (100-1000 nm), or macropores (>1000 nm). Mesopores are the main contributors to porosity. (3) The development of micropores is positively correlated with clay mineral content. The development of mesopores and macropores is influenced by the quartz, feldspar, dolomite, and calcite contents. Calcite content exhibits a negative correlation with porosity, suggesting that later-stage pore cementation hinders shale reservoir development. (4) The five typical shale reservoirs in the study area can be categorized into three types. Type I reservoir lithologies include lime shale and argillaceous shale; type II reservoir lithologies include limestone and argillaceous limestone; and type III reservoirs comprise mudstone. Type I and II reservoirs are of better quality than type III.

Sinoliths are mineral deposits that occur within the paranasal sinus due to long-standing obstruction and lack of drainage. It is a rare differential diagnosis for intrasinus lesions found on imaging. On computed tomography (CT) of the head, these calcifications are visualized as dense radiopaque bodies within the sinuses. Typically, patients with sinoliths are asymptomatic, but if complications of chronic obstruction and recurring sinusitis arise, endoscopic removal of the sinolith may be recommended. Here, we present a 95-year-old female found to have a sinolith in the sphenoid sinus on incidental imaging. This report discusses the etiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, radiologic findings, and management of sinoliths.

Differences in main nutritional components in relation to biomarkers of metabolites in purple rice grains at different fillings stages have not been determined previously. This study measured the contents of amino acids, several nutritional indicators, and mineral elements in purple rice grains at five stages following the filling stage. The results revealed that the amino acid, ascorbic acid, total sugar, carotenoid, vitamin B9, cyanidin-3-O-glucoside, peonidin 3-glucoside and seven minerals were highest in the final stage of grain filling. Citric acid, L-isoleucine, trigonelline, and L-glutamate are key metabolites in the metabolic pathway and exhibit strong correlations with various nutritional indicators. Hence, this research preliminarily suggested that trigonelline, L-isoleucine, L-glutamate, and citric acid could be potential biomarkers of nutritional components in purple rice grains during various postfilling stages.

INTRODUCTION
is a well-known medicinal plant with various health benefits. This study was designed to evaluate the administration of Indonesian maceration for its effect on promoting growth and development of the ovary and uterus before mating in female albino rats.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
A total of 15 female Sprague Dawley rats in their dioestrous phase were assigned into three different groups: the Control group (mineral water); the Cur-Low group (mineral water with 1% maceration) and the Cur-High group (mineral water with 5% maceration). The treatments were given for 20 days. Serum concentrations of follicle-stimulating hormone, oestradiol and progesterone were determined. After the sacrifice of the rats, ovary and uterine relative weight, uterine cornua diameter and length, uterine gland diameter (by histology), the number of primary, secondary, tertiary, and Graafian follicles, the number of corpora lutea and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression in the ovary were measured. Uterine vascularisation was also evaluated.
RESULTS
Administration of maceration significantly improved the relative weights of the uterus and ovary; uterine cornua diameter, length and vascularisation; uterine gland diameter; and expression of VEGF in the ovary. It also increased the number of tertiary follicles and corpora lutea, albeit not significantly. Follicle-stimulating hormone serum concentrations were lower in the administered rats.
CONCLUSION
Oestradiol and progesterone levels rose with maceration treatment. The maceration improved the reproductive organs of unmated rats and had potential to optimise the uterine environment for supporting pregnancy in order to produce high-quality offspring.

INTRODUCTION
The productivity of domestic animals and the safety of food products derived from them are jeopardised by mycotoxins in animal feed. To control them, feed additives are used, which limit the absorption of mycotoxins in the gastrointestinal tract of animals by binding to them. The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a new model in experiments on the binding of mycotoxins from buffers and contaminated feed and to confirm the effect of a single sorbent or mixture in binding them.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
Nine mineral sorbents were tested for their efficiency binding eight mycotoxins. Two experiments were conducted to indicate the mycotoxin-binding capacity of sorbents, each specifying a buffer with one of two different pH levels reflecting gastrointestinal conditions (pH 3.5 and 7.0). The first investigated the sorbent with only the buffer and mycotoxin standards, while the second did so with the sorbent, buffer and feed naturally contaminated with mycotoxins (deoxynivalenol, zearalenone, and ochratoxin A).
RESULTS
The sorption was significantly lower in the trial with feed. In the first experiment at gastric pH (pH 3.5), activated charcoal bound deoxynivalenol and sepiolite bound zearalenone at 70% and 96%, respectively, whereas in the second experiment with feed, the binding was only 3% and 6%.
CONCLUSION
The study underlines the challenge of finding a feed additive that would work comprehensively, binding all mycotoxins regulated by law.
