Psychological stress is a major contributing factor to several health problems (e.g., depression, cardiovascular disease). Around 35 % of the world's population suffers from it, including younger generations. Physiologically, stress manifests through neuroendocrine pathways (Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis and Sympathetic-Adrenal-Medullary (SAM) system) which culminate in the production of stress mediators like cortisol, epinephrine and norepinephrine. Stress and its mediators have been associated to body aging, through molecular mechanisms such as telomere attrition, mitochondrial dysfunction, cellular senescence, chronic inflammation, and dysbiosis, among others. Regarding its impact in the skin, stress impacts its structural integrity and physiological function. Despite this review focusing on several hallmarks of aging, emphasis was placed on skin microbiota dysbiosis. In this line, several studies, comprising different age groups, demographic contexts and body sites, have reported skin microbiota alterations associated with aging, and some effects of stress mediators on skin microbiota have also been reviewed in this paper. From a different perspective, since it is not a "traditional" stress mediator, oxytocin, a cortisol antagonist, has been related to glucorticoids inhibition and to display positive effects on cellular aging. This hormone dysregulation has been associated to psychological issues such as depression, whereas its upregulation has been linked to positive social interaction.

Treatment outcomes for different causes of childhood dwarfism vary widely, and there are no studies on the economic burden of treatment in relation to outcomes. This paper compared the efficacy and healthcare costs per unit height of recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) for the treatment of growth hormone deficiency (GHD) and idiopathic short stature (ISS) with a view to providing a more cost-effective treatment option for children. We retrospectively analyzed 117 cases (66 cases of GHD and 51 cases of ISS) of short-stature children who first visited Weifang People's Hospital between 2019.1 and 2022.1 and were treated with rhGH for 1 to 3 years to track the treatment effect and statistically analyzed by using paired t tests, non-parametric tests, and chi-square tests, to evaluate the efficacy of rhGH treatment for GHD and ISS children and the medicinal cost. The annual growth velocity (GV) of children with GHD and ISS increased the fastest during 3 to 6 months after treatment and then gradually slowed down. The GV of the GHD group was higher than that of the ISS group from 0 to 36 months after treatment (P < .05 at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months); the height standard deviation scores (HtSDS) of the children in the GHD and ISS groups increased gradually with the increase of the treatment time, and the changes in the height standard deviation scores (ΔHtSDS) of the GHD group were more significant than those of the ISS group (P < .05 at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months). (2) The medical costs in the pubertal group for a 1-cm increase in height were higher than those of children in the pre-pubertal group at the same stage (3 to 24 months P < .05). The longer the treatment time within the same group, the higher the medical cost of increasing 1cm height. RhGH is effective in treating children with dwarfism to promote height growth, and the effect on children with GHD is better than that of children with ISS; the earlier the treatment time, the lower the medical cost and the higher the comprehensive benefit.

The link between celiac disease (CeD) and thyroid dysfunction has been investigated. However, it is uncertain if CeD is causally linked to thyroid dysfunction. A 2-sample Mendelian randomization study was conducted to ascertain the causal connection between CeD and thyroid dysfunction. Using data from the FinnGen Consortium, a 2-sample Mendelian randomization study was conducted to look at the connection between thyroid dysfunction and CeD. Another replication of the data from the UK Biobank was subsequently performed to confirm our findings. Furthermore, a sequence of sensitivity analyses was performed. The inverse variance weighting technique demonstrates that genetically determined CeD is substantially linked with hypothyroidism, thyrotoxicosis, Graves' disease, and free thyroxine. However, no significant associations were found between CeD and thyroid-stimulating hormone or thyroiditis. Moreover, we achieve the same results in duplicate datasets, which increases the reliability of our findings. This study suggests that CeD and thyroid dysfunction are linked, and it gives theoretical support and new ways of thinking about how to diagnose and treat both conditions.

The suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) sets the phase of oscillation throughout the brain and body. Anatomical evidence reveals a portal system linking the SCN and the organum vasculosum of the lamina terminalis (OVLT), begging the question of the direction of blood flow and the nature of diffusible signals that flow in this specialized vasculature. Using a combination of anatomical and in vivo two-photon imaging approaches, we unequivocally show that blood flows unidirectionally from the SCN to the OVLT, that blood flow rate displays daily oscillations with a higher rate at night than in the day, and that circulating vasopressin can access portal vessels. These findings highlight a previously unknown central nervous system communication pathway, which, like that of the pituitary portal system, could allow neurosecretions to reach nearby target sites in OVLT, avoiding dilution in the systemic blood. In both of these brain portal pathways, the target sites relay signals broadly to both the brain and the rest of the body.

Oxytocin plays a critical role in regulating social behaviors, yet our understanding of its function in both neurological health and disease remains incomplete. Real-time oxytocin imaging probes with spatiotemporal resolution relevant to its endogenous signaling are required to fully elucidate oxytocin's role in the brain. Herein, we describe a near-infrared oxytocin nanosensor (nIROXT), a synthetic probe capable of imaging oxytocin in the brain without interference from its structural analogue, vasopressin. nIROXT leverages the inherent tissue-transparent fluorescence of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) and the molecular recognition capacity of an oxytocin receptor peptide fragment to selectively and reversibly image oxytocin. We employ these nanosensors to monitor electrically stimulated oxytocin release in brain tissue, revealing oxytocin release sites with a median size of 3 µm in the paraventricular nucleus of C57BL/6 mice, which putatively represents the spatial diffusion of oxytocin from its point of release. These data demonstrate that covalent SWCNT constructs, such as nIROXT, are powerful optical tools that can be leveraged to measure neuropeptide release in brain tissue.

Age is a known determinant of reproductive health and fertility in both genders. The present work aims to assess the reproductive hormone profile of a middle-aged and elderly man. For this descriptive cross-sectional study, healthy male subjects (n=77) were recruited from the valley. Any individual suffering from any acute or chronic diseases and on drugs was ruled out from the study. Group A consisted of 40 elderly men between 60-70 years of age, and Group B comprised 37 men between 35-46 years of age. Blood samples were taken to estimate the reproductive hormone profile. Level of oxidant and antioxidant: Malondialdehyde and Glutathione. The demographic variables, which included retrospective and prospective questions, helped to assess the physical activity and diet intake behaviour of all inducted individuals. The analysis of the reproductive profile of both groups was similar and within the normal range of standards. However, the median level of LH was higher in group A than in group B: 6.7 mIU/ml versus 3.4 mIU/ml, respectively, and p<0.003. Both groups showed predominantly involvement in physical activity, >90%. The correlation of biochemical variables gives an insight into the fact that the Mediterranean diet and physical activity help to maintain a normal BMI. These implicate the normal secretion of various hormones, leading to intact spermatogenesis. We can safely deduce from this study that physically active lifestyles and a healthy diet are crucial factors in maintaining an endocrine profile.

Review
Reviewing the current state of knowledge on reproductive performance and productive traits in rams has many advantages. First, the compilation of this information will serve as a literature resource for scientists conducting research around the world and will contribute to the understanding of the data collected and interpreted by researchers on the different hormonal strategies used to improve reproductive performance in rams. Second, it will allow scientists to identify current knowledge gaps and set future research priorities in ram reproduction. Rams play an important role in the global flock economy, but their reproductive analysis has been limited in the use of hormonal technologies to increase the productivity of sheep flocks. In this review, we cite the most important works on six hormones that, in one way or another, modify the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal axis, at different doses, in and out of the reproductive season, breeds, application methods, among other factors. The overall aim is to increase the reproductive efficiency of rams in different scenarios and, in some cases, of other species due to the lack of limited information on rams.

PURPOSE
An increase of IGF-1 has been reported during therapy with dopamine agonists (DA) for prolactinomas; in such cases a correct diagnosis is pivotal to avoid an unnecessary reduction or withdrawal of DA, which are needed to maintain normal prolactin levels. This study was aimed to measure IGF-1 levels, at baseline and during follow-up, in a cohort of patients with prolactinoma, treated with cabergoline, stratified by body mass index.
METHODS
We retrospectively enrolled 35 patients (15 F/20 M; age m ± SD, years: 43.4 ± 13.7) with prolactinoma (21 microadenomas and 14 macroadenomas) who were followed-up at the Endocrinology Unit, in Siena, and with available pituitary hormone assessment at baseline and during follow-up (m ± SD, years: 2.74 ± 0.55).
RESULTS
IGF-1 increased in the whole cohort, but remaining within normal range, except two patients, in whom acromegaly was ruled out with oral glucose tolerance test. After dividing patients by weight, this trend was confirmed only in subjects with overweight and obesity (OV/OB) (p = 0.04). Interestingly, the reduction of prolactin levels was significantly greater in the OV/OB compared to normal-weight patients (median decrease of 97.5% versus 88.2%, p = 0.04).
CONCLUSIONS
Since DA and normalization of prolactin are known to improve insulin sensitivity, we speculated they have favored the increase of IGF-1 in OV/OB. Our results should be confirmed and the hypothesis proven by further studies.

BACKGROUND
As the second most risky environmental pollution, noise imposes threats to human health. Exposure to high-intensity noise causes hearing impairment, psychotic disorders, endocrine modifications. The relationship among low-intensity noise, obesity and lipid-regulating nuclear factor PPARα is not yet clear.
METHODS
In this study, male wild-type (WT) and Pparα-null (KO) mice on a high-fat diet (HFD) were exposed to 75 dB noise for 12 weeks to explore the effect of low-intensity noise on obesity development and the role of PPARα. 3T3-L1 cells were treated with dexamethasone (DEX) and sodium oleate (OA) to verify the down-stream effect of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis activation on the adipose tissues.
RESULTS
The average body weight gain (BWG) of WT mice on HFD exposed to noise was inhibited, which was not observed in KO mice. The mass and adipocyte size of adipose tissues accounted for the above difference of BWG tendency. In WT mice on HFD, the adrenocorticotropic hormone level was increased by the noise challenge. The aggravation of fatty liver by noise exposure occurred in both mouse lines, and the transport of hepatic redundant lipid to adipose tissues were similar. The lipid metabolism in adipose tissue driven by HPA axis accorded with the BWG inhibition in vivo, validated in 3T3-L1 adipogenic stem cells.
CONCLUSION
Chronic exposure to low-intensity noise aggravated fatty liver in both WT and KO mice. BWG inhibition was observed only in WT mice, which covered up the aggravation of fatty liver by noise exposure. PPARα mediates the activation of HPA axis by noise exposure in mice on HFD. Elevated adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) promoted lipid metabolism in adipocytes, which contributed to the disassociation of BWG and fatty liver development in male WT mice. Summary of PPARα suppresses noise-induced body weight gain in mice on high-fat-diet. Chronic exposure to low-intensity noise exposure inhibited BWG by PPARα-dependent activation of the HPA axis.

To explore the value of the midnight 1 mg dexamethasone suppression test combined with adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) stimulation test in the diagnosis of primary aldosteronism (PA) subtypes. A cross-sectional study Clinical data of patients diagnosed with PA at the First Medical Center of Chinese PLA General Hospital from January 2020 to September 2022, who completed the midnight 1 mg dexamethasone suppression test combined with ACTH stimulation test, were analysed retrospectively. The clinical characteristics and trial results of patients with aldosterone-producing adenoma (APA) and idiopathic hyper aldosteronism (IHA)were compared. The efficacy of the midnight 1 mg dexamethasone suppression test combined with ACTH stimulation test in distinguishing APA and IHA was evaluated by drawing receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, and the cut-off value of the diagnostic indicator was determined with the maximum Youden index. A total of 82 patients with PA were included, including 43 males and 39 females, aged (50.8±11.4) years old. They were divided into APA group (=49) and IHA group (=33) based on PA subtype. There was no statistically significant difference in body mass index, systolic and diastolic blood pressure between the two groups (all >0.05). The blood potassium and orthostatic renin levels in the APA group were lower than those in the IHA group, and the differences were statistically significant (all P<0.001). The orthostatic plasma aldosterone concentration (PAC), orthostatic aldosterone to renin ratio (ARR), PAC before and after captopril challenge test(CCT), ARR after CCT, PAC before and after saline infusion test (SIT), and the proportion of unilateral lesions in the APA group were all higher than those in the IHA group, and the differences were statistically significant (all <0.001). After the midnight 1 mg dexamethasone suppression test combined with ACTH stimulation test (30, 60, 90, 120 min), the PAC and PAC/cortisol levels in the APA group were significantly higher than those in the IHA group (all <0.05). The PAC at 90 min showed the highest diagnostic capability according to the area under the ROC(AUC) (0.930,95%:0.874-0.986), and the Youden index was the highest at a PAC cut-off value of 39.05 ng/dl(0.766). The sensitivity and specificity for distinguishing APA from IHA were 91.8% and 84.8%, respectively. The midnight 1 mg dexamethasone suppression test with ACTH stimulation test could be useful for differentiating the subtypes of PA. Among them, the PAC and PAC/cortisol at 90 min showed best diagnostic efficacy.
