Psychoeducational group interventions for adults diagnosed with attention-deficit/ hyperactivity disorder: a scoping review of feasibility, acceptability, and outcome measures.
INTRODUCTION
Although psychoeducational group interventions are increasingly used for adults diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), a comprehensive review focused on the feasibility and acceptability indicators of these interventions remains lacking. Furthermore, although previous research has explored various aspects of psychoeducation for ADHD, such as its definition and approaches, limited research has focused on the synthesis for outcome measures and patients' experiences related to these interventions. Therefore, this scoping review aims to map the existing evidence reported on psychoeducational group interventions for adults diagnosed with ADHD. The objective is to provide a comprehensive overview of feasibility indicators, acceptability, and outcome measures used in psychoeducational group interventions.
METHOD
A comprehensive structured literature search on the topic was performed in seven bibliographic databases, and the resulting records were independently screened, and their data extracted by two reviewers. We followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-S) to ensure the transparency and rigor of this scoping review.
RESULTS
The searches yielded 7510 records. Eight studies met the inclusion criteria. These included studies were conducted in European countries and the United States. Among these, six studies used a randomized control design, one an open feasibility trial, and one a pre-post intervention design. All the studies reported some feasibility and acceptability indicators. While all the studies reported on the severity of symptoms of ADHD as an outcome measure, some also reported on outcomes related to psychological or mental-health problems, quality of life, changes in knowledge regarding ADHD, or the level of self-esteem, functioning, and impairment.
CONCLUSION
This scoping review revealed that psychoeducational group interventions are generally acceptable for patients in terms of patient satisfaction with the group intervention. All included studies reported some feasibility indicators, with some reporting good attendance and relatively low dropout rates. Most studies reported positive effects on ADHD and mental health symptoms, suggesting that these interventions are beneficial for adults with ADHD. However, several gaps exist regarding the reporting on the feasibility indicators, acceptability, and outcome measures employed across studies.

This review aims to assess the efficacy and safety of laser therapy in managing scars resulting from cleft lip and/or palate (CL/P) repair surgeries, as well as to determine the optimal timing for intervention. A systematic search was conducted across four databases using a predefined search strategy. Studies included were randomized controlled trials, non-randomized studies, and case series focusing on laser therapy for CL/P scars. Data extraction and analysis were performed using Revman Software. A total of two randomized controlled trials, four non-randomized studies, and three case series were included in the analysis. The fractional CO laser was the most commonly utilized type of laser. Following laser therapy, there was a significant decrease in Vancouver Scar Scale (VSS) scores by 4.05 (95% CI, 2.10-5.99). Meta-analysis revealed that laser treatment groups exhibited a significantly lower mean VSS score (1.3; 95% CI, 0.02-2.67) compared to control groups. Moreover, initiating laser therapy intervention at one month postoperatively resulted in a significantly lower VSS score compared to initiation at three months postoperatively (difference of 1.70; 95% CI, 1.33-2.08). No severe complications were reported. Laser therapy demonstrates effectiveness and safety in improving CL/P scars, with earlier intervention yielding greater benefits.

A network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials was conducted to compare and rank the effectiveness of various noninvasive brain stimulation (NIBS) for Parkinson's disease (PD). We searched PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang Database, China Science and Technology Journal Database (VIP), and Chinese Biomedical Literature Service System (SinoMed) databases from the date of database inception to April 30th, 2024. Two researchers independently screened studies of NIBS treatment in patients with PD based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Two researchers independently performed data extraction of the included studies using an Excel spreadsheet and assessed the quality of the literature according to the Cochrane Risk of Bias Assessment Tool (RoB2). Network meta-analysis was performed in StataMP 17.0. A total of 28 studies involving 1628 PD patients were included. The results showed that HF-rTMS over the SMA (SMD = - 2.01; 95% CI [- 2.87, - 1.15]), HF-rTMS over the M1 and DLPFC (SMD = - 1.80; 95% CI [- 2.90, - 0.70]), HF-rTMS over the M1 (SMD = - 1.10; 95% CI [- 1.55, - 0.65]), a-tDCS over the DLPFC (SMD = - 1.08; 95% CI [- 1.90, - 0.27]), HF-rTMS over the M1 and PFC (SMD = - 0.92; 95% CI [- 1.71, - 0.14]), LF-rTMS over the M1 (SMD = - 0.72; 95% CI [- 1.17, - 0.28]), and HF-rTMS over the DLPFC (SMD = - 0.70; 95% CI [- 1.21, - 0.19]) were significantly improved motor function compared with sham stimulation. The SUCRA three highest ranked were HF-rTMS over the SMA (95.1%), HF-rTMS over the M1 and DLPFC (89.6%), and HF-rTMS over the M1 (73.0%). In terms of enhanced cognitive function, HF-rTMS over the DLPFC (SMD = 0.80; 95% CI [0.03,1.56]) was significantly better than sham stimulation. The SUCRA three most highly ranked were a-tDCS over the M1 (69.8%), c-tDCS over the DLPFC (66.9%), and iTBS over the DLPFC (65.3%). HF-rTMS over the M1 (SMD = - 1.43; 95% CI [- 2.26, - 0.61]) and HF-rTMS over the DLPFC (SMD = - 0.79; 95% CI [- 1.45, - 0.12)]) significantly improved depression. The SUCRA three highest ranked were HF-rTMS over the M1 (94.1%), LF-rTMS over the M1 (71.8%), and HF-rTMS over the DLPFC (69.0%). HF-rTMS over the SMA may be the best option for improving motor symptoms in PD patients. a-tDCS and HF-rTMS over the M1 may be the NIBS with the most significant effects on cognition and depression, separately.Trial registration: International Prospective Register of Systematic Review, PROSPERO (CRD42023456088).

BACKGROUND
The surge in emergency head CT imaging and artificial intelligence (AI) advancements, especially deep learning (DL) and convolutional neural networks (CNN), have accelerated the development of computer-aided diagnosis (CADx) for emergency imaging. External validation assesses model generalizability, providing preliminary evidence of clinical potential.
OBJECTIVES
This study systematically reviews externally validated CNN-CADx models for emergency head CT scans, critically appraises diagnostic test accuracy (DTA), and assesses adherence to reporting guidelines.
METHODS
Studies comparing CNN-CADx model performance to reference standard were eligible. The review was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42023411641) and conducted on Medline, Embase, EBM-Reviews and Web of Science following PRISMA-DTA guideline. DTA reporting were systematically extracted and appraised using standardised checklists (STARD, CHARMS, CLAIM, TRIPOD, PROBAST, QUADAS-2).
RESULTS
Six of 5636 identified studies were eligible. The common target condition was intracranial haemorrhage (ICH), and intended workflow roles auxiliary to experts. Due to methodological and clinical between-study variation, meta-analysis was inappropriate. The scan-level sensitivity exceeded 90 % in 5/6 studies, while specificities ranged from 58,0-97,7 %. The SROC 95 % predictive region was markedly broader than the confidence region, ranging above 50 % sensitivity and 20 % specificity. All studies had unclear or high risk of bias and concern for applicability (QUADAS-2, PROBAST), and reporting adherence was below 50 % in 20 of 32 TRIPOD items.
CONCLUSION
0.01 % of identified studies met the eligibility criteria. The evidence on the DTA of CNN-CADx models for emergency head CT scans remains limited in the scope of this review, as the reviewed studies were scarce, inapt for meta-analysis and undermined by inadequate methodological conduct and reporting. Properly conducted, external validation remains preliminary for evaluating the clinical potential of AI-CADx models, but prospective and pragmatic clinical validation in comparative trials remains most crucial. In conclusion, future AI-CADx research processes should be methodologically standardized and reported in a clinically meaningful way to avoid research waste.

BACKGROUND
Children living with HIV/AIDS are particularly vulnerable to under-nutrition. Under-nutrition associated with HIV/AIDS infection increases the rate of morbidity and mortality in children. To reaffirm a future objective, there needs to be evidence regarding the current national burden of under-nutrition and related factors among children infected with HIV. Hence, the objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to estimate the pooled prevalence of under-nutrition, and the pooled effect sizes of associated factors among HIV-infected children in Ethiopia.
METHODS
We searched Ethiopian universities' online libraries, Google, Google Scholar, PubMed, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, and Scopus to find the primary studies for this review. Publication bias was checked through Egger's regression test. Heterogeneity among the included studies was assessed using the I2 test. The data were extracted using Microsoft Excel and exported to STATA Version 14 statistical software. A random effect meta-analysis model was performed to estimate the pooled prevalence of Under-nutrition.
RESULTS
After reviewing 1449 primary studies, 16 articles met the inclusion criteria and were included in the final meta-analysis. The estimated pooled prevalence of stunting, underweight, and wasting among children living with HIV/AIDS was 32.98% (95% CI: 22.47, 43.50), 29.76% (95% CI: 21.87, 37.66), and 21.16% (95% CI: 14.96, 27.35) respectively.
CONCLUSIONS
This study showed that under-nutrition among HIV-infected children in Ethiopia was significantly high. Under-nutrition is more common among HIV-infected children with opportunistic infections, child feeding problems, do not adhere to dietary recommendations, and have diarrhea. The national policies and strategies for ART service- provider centers should maximize their emphasis on reducing under-nutrition among HIV-infected children. Based on this finding, we recommend HIV intervention programs to address nutritional assessment and interventions for HIV-infected children.

Central nervous system (CNS) malignant neoplasms may lead to venous thromboembolism (VTE) and bleeding, which result in rehospitalization, morbidity and mortality. We aimed to assess the incidence of VTE and bleeding in this population.
METHODS
This systematic review and meta-analysis (PROSPERO CRD42023423949) were based on a standardized search of PubMed, Virtual Health Library and Cochrane (n = 1653) in July 2023. After duplicate removal, data screening and collection were conducted by independent reviewers. The combined rates and 95% confidence intervals for the incidence of VTE and bleeding were calculated using the random effects model with double arcsine transformation. Subgroup analyses were performed based on sex, age, income, and type of tumor. Heterogeneity was calculated using Cochran's Q test and I2 statistics. Egger's test and funnel graphs were used to assess publication bias.
RESULTS
Only 36 studies were included, mainly retrospective cohorts (n = 30, 83.3%) from North America (n = 20). Most studies included were published in high-income countries. The sample size of studies varied between 34 and 21,384 adult patients, mostly based on gliomas (n = 30,045). For overall malignant primary CNS neoplasm, the pooled incidence was 13.68% (95%CI 9.79; 18.79) and 11.60% (95%CI 6.16; 18.41) for VTE and bleeding, respectively. The subgroup with elderly people aged 60 or over had the highest incidence of VTE (32.27% - 95%CI 14.40;53.31). The studies presented few biases, being mostly high quality. Despite some variability among the studies, we observed consistent results by performing sensitivity analysis, which highlight the robustness of our findings.
CONCLUSIONS
Our study showed variability in the pooled incidence for both overall events and subgroup analyses. It was highlighted that individuals over 60 years old or diagnosed with GBM had a higher pooled incidence of VTE among those with overall CNS malignancies. It is important to note that the results of this meta-analysis refer mainly to studies carried out in high-income countries. This highlights the need for additional research in Latin America, and low- and middle-income countries.

PURPOSE
The discoid meniscus (DM) is distinguished by its thickened, disc-shaped formation, which extends over the tibial plateau. The likelihood of developing osteoarthritis escalates if a DM tear remains undiagnosed and untreated. While DM tears can be diagnosed through arthroscopy, the high cost, invasive nature and limited availability of this procedure highlight the need for a better diagnostic modality. This study aims to determine the accuracy of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in diagnosing DM tears.
METHODS
A systematic review was conducted to gather articles with at least 10 cases on the comparison of MRI and arthroscopy as the gold standard for DM tear diagnosis. Stata and MetaDisc were used to conduct the statistical analysis. The quality of the included studies was evaluated using the Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies-2 tool.
RESULTS
Five diagnostic performance studies, derived from four original research papers involving 305 patients, were evaluated. Based on the pooled data, the sensitivity, specificity, diagnostic odds ratio, positive limit of detection and negative limit of detection were found to be 0.87 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.82-0.91) and 0.84 (95% CI, 0.75-0.90), 32.88 (95% CI, 5.81-186.02), 5.22 (95% CI, 1.71-15.92) and 0.18 (95% CI, 0.09-0.38), respectively. A hierarchical summary receiver operating characteristic curve with an area under the curve of 0.92 was generated.
CONCLUSION
This meta-analysis demonstrates that MRI has excellent sensitivity and specificity for diagnosing DM tears. Despite its lower accuracy compared to arthroscopy, MRI can be used in symptomatic patients as a viable alternative to arthroscopy due to its inherent advantages.

BACKGROUND AND AIM
There is still uncertainty regarding whether hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is associated with colorectal cancer (CRC). This study aims to investigate the potential association between HCV infection and CRC through a systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies.
METHODS
PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science were systematically searched from the beginning of their inception to October 2023 to find relevant cohort studies on the association between HCV infection and CRC risk. The random-effect, generic inverse variance method was used to calculate the hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for CRC outcome among individuals with HCV infection. We also performed subgroup and sensitivity analysis.
RESULTS
A total of 8 cohort studies involving 1,939,164 participants were included in this meta-analysis. The result from the meta-analysis suggested that there was no statistically significant association between HCV and the risk of developing CRC (HR = 0.99, 95% CI: 0.82-1.88, = 0.88) with low statistical heterogeneity (I = 28%, = 0.20). Subgroup analyses that were conducted based on study design, diagnosis of HCV infection, and publication year yielded similar results. Analyses of subgroups based on study areas revealed that there was no significant association between HCV infection and CRC risk in Asia ( = 2, HR = 0.96, 95% CI: 0.71-1.29, = 0.79; I = 26%), Europe ( = 3, HR = 1.06, 95% CI: 0.83-1.37, = 0.63; I = 0%), and North America ( = 2, HR = 1.10, 95% CI: 0.87-1.38, = 0.44; I = 0%); however, a negative correlation was found in Oceania ( = 1, HR = 0.43, 95% CI: 0.22-0.84, = 0.01). Sensitivity analysis further reinforce the stability of our conclusion.
CONCLUSION
Our cohort-based meta-analysis showed insufficient evidence to support the association between HCV infection and an increased risk of CRC. To gain a clearer insight into the potential association between these two conditions, it would be beneficial to conduct large, well-designed, high-quality prospective cohort studies that consider different ethnic populations and potential confounding factors.: PROSPERO, identifier [CRD42023472688], https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/display_record.php?ID=CRD42023472688.

Mild cognitive impairment has received widespread attention as a high-risk population for Alzheimer's disease, and many studies have developed or validated predictive models to assess it. However, the performance of the model development remains unknown.
OBJECTIVE
The objective of this review was to provide an overview of prediction models for the risk of Alzheimer's disease dementia in older adults with mild cognitive impairment.
METHOD
PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and MEDLINE were systematically searched up to October 19, 2023. We included cohort studies in which risk prediction models for Alzheimer's disease dementia in older adults with mild cognitive impairment were developed or validated. The Predictive Model Risk of Bias Assessment Tool (PROBAST) was employed to assess model bias and applicability. Random-effects models combined model AUCs and calculated (approximate) 95% prediction intervals for estimations. Heterogeneity across studies was evaluated using the I statistic, and subgroup analyses were conducted to investigate sources of heterogeneity. Additionally, funnel plot analysis was utilized to identify publication bias.
RESULTS
The analysis included 16 studies involving 9290 participants. Frequency analysis of predictors showed that 14 appeared at least twice and more, with age, functional activities questionnaire, and Mini-mental State Examination scores of cognitive functioning being the most common predictors. From the studies, only two models were externally validated. Eleven studies ultimately used machine learning, and four used traditional modelling methods. However, we found that in many of the studies, there were problems with insufficient sample sizes, missing important methodological information, lack of model presentation, and all of the models were rated as having a high or unclear risk of bias. The average AUC of the 15 best-developed predictive models was 0.87 (95% CI: 0.83, 0.90).
DISCUSSION
Most published predictive modelling studies are deficient in rigour, resulting in a high risk of bias. Upcoming research should concentrate on enhancing methodological rigour and conducting external validation of models predicting Alzheimer's disease dementia. We also emphasize the importance of following the scientific method and transparent reporting to improve the accuracy, generalizability and reproducibility of study results.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE
Diagnosis of primary and relapsed bladder carcinomas is accomplished by urethrocystoscopy, an invasive procedure, combined with urinary cytology, with limited sensitivity, resulting in a substantial burden. Thus, noninvasive biomarkers have been investigated, among which DNA methylation has shown promise. This systematic review and meta-analysis sought to assess the diagnostic accuracy of DNA methylation biomarkers reported in the literature for bladder cancer detection, pinpointing the most informative one.
METHODS
The search for this systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted on PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane Library for relevant studies published until December 31, 2022. A meta-analysis was performed using a random-effect model, to compute the pooled sensitivity and specificity of the markers. PROSPERO's registration ID for the study is CRD42023397703.
KEY FINDINGS AND LIMITATIONS
Out of the 2297 studies retrieved, 68 were included in the final analysis, despite considerable heterogeneity. These involved 12 696 participants, of whom 5557 were diagnosed with bladder cancer. Using diagnostic odds ratio (DOR) as a comparative measure, the five most promising markers (pooled sensitivity, specificity, and DOR) were SALL3 (61%, 97%, and 55.67, respectively), PENK (77%, 93%, and 47.90, respectively), ZNF154 (87%, 90%, and 45.07, respectively), VIM (82%, 90%, and 44.81, respectively), and POU4F2 (81%, 89%, and 34.89, respectively). Urinary cytology identified bladder cancer with 55% sensitivity, 92% specificity, and 14.37 DOR.
CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS
DNA methylation biomarkers disclose high accuracy for bladder cancer detection in urine. Nonetheless, validation studies in different clinical settings are scarce, hampering clinical use. The identified biomarkers should be prioritized in future validation studies.
PATIENT SUMMARY
In this meta-analysis, we include previously published studies that used urine samples of bladder cancer patients' from all around the globe. We were able to compare the diagnostic accuracy of noninvasive markers across different populations. We were able to conclude on the most promising DNA methylation markers to detect bladder cancer using urine.
