AIM
This study investigates the relationship between Work-Family Conflict (WFC) and the individual's experience of burnout by considering the moderating role of a stressful working environment.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
The questionnaire holds "Work-Family Conflict" and consists of eight questions adopted from Carlson and Perrewé (1999). "Burnout" consists of three subconstructs, namely "Emotional exhaustion", which carries four questions, "Depersonalization", which has four questions, and "Personal accomplishment", holding three questions adopted from Maslach Burnout Inventory (Maslach and Jackson, 1981). And finally, "Stressful work environment" consists of 10 questions adopted from Gershon (1999). The research instrument was distributed among women police working in Chennai and Kanchipuram regions. The data from 427 women police personnel were collected through a questionnaire using a simple random sampling method.
STATISTICAL ANALYSIS USED
First, exploratory factor analysis was performed to test the standardization and tested for reliability using Cronbach's alpha test. It found that all loadings are between 0.649 and 0.866, which is satisfactory. Second, for demographic questionnaire items, descriptive statistics were performed. Finally, to find the moderating effects of stressful work environment on the relationship between WFC and the individual's experience of burnout, multiple hierarchical regression analysis was computed.
RESULTS
The results show that WFC positively affects burnout and it has been found that a stressful working environment moderates the relationship. It also supports that individuals experience a high level of burnout when the working environment and WFC are intense.
CONCLUSION
The result supports that individuals experience high burnout when the working environment and WFC are intense. The study initiated an attempt to explain the mechanism through which a stressful working environment influences burnout levels.

OBJECTIVE
Dissociation is a conscious state characterized by alterations in sensation and perception and is thought to arise from traumatic life experiences. Previous research has demonstrated that individuals with high levels of dissociation show impairments in cognitive-emotional processes. Therefore, using the Competing Neurobehavioral Decisions System (CNDS) theory, we used statistical modeling to examine whether dissociative experience and trauma symptoms are independently predicted by impulsivity, risk-seeking, affective state (i.e., anxiety, depression, stress, and negative affect), and trauma history.
METHOD
In this cross-sectional study design, data were collected via Amazon Mechanical Turk from a total of = 557 English-speaking participants in the United States. Using Qualtrics, participants answered a series of self-reported questionnaires and completed several neurocognitive tasks. Three independent multiple linear regression models were conducted to assess whether impulsivity, risk seeking, affective state, and trauma history predict depersonalization, trauma symptoms, and PTSD symptoms.
RESULTS
As hypothesized, we found that depersonalization and other trauma symptoms are associated with heightened impulsivity, increased risk-seeking, impaired affective states, and a history of traumatic experiences.
CONCLUSION
We demonstrate that an imbalanced CNDS (i.e., hyperimpulsive/hypoexecutive), as evidenced by decreased future valuation, increased risk seeking, and impaired affective states, predicts heightened depersonalization and other trauma and PTSD symptomatology. This is the first time that dissociation has been connected to delay discounting (i.e., the tendency to place more value on rewards received immediately compared to farther in the future). Interventions that positively impact areas of the CNDS, such as episodic future thinking or mindfulness meditation, may be a target to help decrease dissociative symptoms.

BACKGROUND
Occupational burnout is intricately linked to a spectrum of physical disorders encompassing respiratory, cardiovascular, and gastrointestinal conditions, as well as manifestations such as headaches, type 2 diabetes, elevated cholesterol levels, chronic fatigue, and muscle pain. Despite this association, there remains a paucity of research on the specific risk factors contributing to burnout among nurses in China.
METHODS
This cross-sectional study utilized convenience sampling to recruit participants, with data analyzed from 1,774 nurse staffs. Psychosocial traits were assessed using the Three-Item Loneliness Scale for loneliness, the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale (GAD-7) for anxiety symptoms, the 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) for depressive symptoms, the Connor Davidson Resilience Scale-10 item (CDRISC-10) for resilience, and the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Service Survey (MBI-HSS) for burn out. Restrictive cubic spline analysis to investigate the dose-response relationship between years of experience and burn out. Multivariate linear regression was employed to investigate the relationship between burnout and various risk factors.
RESULTS
After controlling for basic demographic variables, good sleep quality was associated with a reduction in emotional exhaustion (β = -0.307, < 0.001), while loneliness (β = 1.334, < 0.001), depressive symptoms (β = 0.896, < 0.001), and anxiety symptoms (β = 0.504, < 0.001) were significantly associated with increased emotional exhaustion. Moreover, higher levels of resilience were positively associated with personal accomplishment (β = 0.635, < 0.001). Regarding depersonalization, loneliness (β = 0.577, < 0.001), depressive symptoms (β = 0.429, < 0.001), and anxiety symptoms (β = 0.152, < 0.01) were found to increase its level. Conversely, good resilience was associated with a decrease in depersonalization (β = -0.069, < 0.001). The non-liner association between year of experience and emotional exhaustion was significantly ( < 0.05).
CONCLUSION
Our findings revealed that significant risk factors contributing to burnout among nursing staff including bad sleep quality, loneliness, lower level of resilience, anxiety symptoms, depressive symptoms. Moreover, a nonlinear correlation between years of experience and the likelihood of experiencing emotional exhaustion was exist.

BACKGROUND
The birthplace has a crucial role in shaping the childbirth experience and mothers' satisfaction levels. This study aimed to identify the experiences and perceptions that may have an impact in the long-term on mothers' birthing experience, considering hospital design features in the birthing environment until discharge.
METHODS
Inductive thematic analysis of twenty-five hospital labor testimonies employing a phenomenological research approach and utilizing a biographical method. Participants were women with a professional background in architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, or interior design.
RESULTS
The results are organized into four themes and seven subthemes. The first theme is "First sight and long term impression" which is subdivided into the subthemes "Depersonalized itinerary in entrances and corridors" and "Instinctive search for connection with nature". The second theme deals with "Accompaniment and tucking in during the birthing process", subdivided into "Hotel-like: space for movement and personalized adaptation" and "Helplessness, cold and uncertainty: spaces to be against one's will". The third theme is "Damage in collateral rooms", which includes "The integration of toilets in the birthing process", "Operating rooms unchangeable in the face of cesarean delivery" and "Neonatal units that do not integrate families". Finally, the fourth theme includes "Improvement proposals for new designs".
CONCLUSIONS
This study contributes to the existing literature by deepening the understanding of the design features identified in hospitals in recent studies. Further research incorporating the experiences of women in the birthing process is needed to facilitate evidence-based design policies.

Distributed processing that gives rise to pain experience is anchored by a multidimensional self-model. I show how the phenomenon of pain asymbolia and other atypical pain-related conditions (Insensitivity to Pain, Chronic Pain, 'Social' Pain, Insensitivity to Pain, Chronic Pain, 'Social' Pain, empathy for pain and suffering) can be explained by this idea. It also explains the patterns of association and dissociation among neural correlates without importing strong modular assumptions. It treats pain processing as a species of allostatic active inference in which the mind co-ordinates its processing resources to optimize basic bodily functioning at different time scales. The self is inferred to be source and target of regulation in this process. The self-modelling account reconciles conflicting deaffectualization and depersonalization accounts of pain asymbolia by showing how depersonalization and pain asymbolia arise at different levels of hierarchical self modelling.

Smartphones, smartwatches, linked wearables, and associated wellness apps have had rapid uptake. These tools become ever ‘smarter’ in sensing intimate aspects of our surroundings and physiology over time, including activity, metabolites, electrical signals, blood pressure and oxygenation. Proposed EU law stipulates the ‘involuntary donation’ of depersonalized health and wellness data. There has been pushback against the ever-increasing gathering and sharing of wellness data in this context, increasing with every app purchased or updated. Is the potential of this data now lost to research? Consent-led COVID-19 data donation projects signpost a participative, standardized, and scalable approach to data sharing.

Teacher burnout and high recovery need are a topic of concern for educational institutions. This cross-sectional study assesses the association between lifestyle (including physical activity (PA), sedentary behavior (SB), dietary behavior and sleep), burnout risk and recovery need in 1878 secondary schoolteachers in Flanders. In September-October 2019, an online-questionnaire assessing burnout (i.e., emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, personal accomplishment), recovery need, PA-domains, SB-domains, dietary behavior (including fruit and vegetable intake and diet quality) and sleep during the week and the weekend was completed. Multiple linear regression models were applied. More emotional exhaustion was associated with more domestic and garden PA, work-related SB and sleep during the weekend, whereas higher scores of emotional exhaustion were associated with lower fruit intake, diet quality and less sleep during the week. More depersonalization was associated with more leisure-time PA and work-related SB and with lower fruit intake. Teachers showing more recovery need, showed more domestic and garden PA and work-related SB, but less leisure-time PA and sleep during the week. Future research should use longitudinal or experimental designs to get more insight into causality. Despite the low effect sizes, education networks and schools might benefit from promoting and facilitating a healthy lifestyle in secondary schoolteachers.

INTRODUCTION
Characterized by high levels of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization and reduced professional accomplishment, burnout syndrome has been a major cause of psychic illness in nursing workers, with a serious impact on the quality of services and on patient safety.
OBJECTIVES
To analyze the correlation between organizational climate, job satisfaction, and burnout in nursing workers.
METHODS
This is a cross-sectional study with a sample of 534 Brazilian nursing workers. We used the Organizational Climate Scale for Health Organizations, the Job Satisfaction Questionnaire (S20/23), and the Maslach Burnout Inventory. An analytical descriptive analysis of the data was performed using relative and absolute frequencies, mean, standard deviation, minimum, maximum, and correlation test between the variables.
RESULTS
Organizational climate and job satisfaction were evaluated as regular. With regard to burnout, moderate levels of emotional exhaustion, low levels of depersonalization, and high levels of professional accomplishment were observed. A strong positive correlation was found between job satisfaction and organizational climate; in addition to a moderate negative correlation between emotional exhaustion and both organizational climate and job satisfaction, and a moderate negative correlation between depersonalization and job satisfaction.
CONCLUSIONS
Organizational climate and job satisfaction had a negative correlation with burnout dimensions, representing possible protective factors.

Central European Journal of Public... Dec 2023The aim of the study was to assess the factors determining the work of nurses in internal medicine departments.
OBJECTIVES
The aim of the study was to assess the factors determining the work of nurses in internal medicine departments.
METHODS
The study was multicentre, cross-sectional, and observational. The selection of the research group was intentional. The subject of the study were 209 nurses working in 11 internal medicine departments in 10 hospitals in the region of southern Poland.
RESULTS
The number of patients cared for by one nurse, nurses' participation in the decision-making process, and nurses' age were shown to be direct predictors of emotional exhaustion. The number of patients cared for by a single nurse, nurses' participation in the decision-making process, and age were direct predictors of depersonalization. It was shown that significant (p < 0.05) independent (multivariate analysis) variables of the job satisfaction subscale were information on support for nurses at work by managerial staff and nurses' participation in the decision-making process. After analysing the impact of socio-demographic factors on the nurses' working environment, it was found that the participation of nurses in the decision-making process was significantly lower in the youngest group than in the other age groups (p = 0.006).
CONCLUSIONS
Participation of nurses in the decision-making process is a direct determinant of occupational burnout. A higher number of patients under the care of a nurse, lack of participation in the decision-making process and a higher age of nurses are predictors of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization.

African Journal of Primary Health Care... Jan 2024Healthcare providers (HCPs) are at risk of burnout in sub-Saharan Africa. However, there is little research in rural and primary care settings.
BACKGROUND
Healthcare providers (HCPs) are at risk of burnout in sub-Saharan Africa. However, there is little research in rural and primary care settings.
AIM
To evaluate burnout and its associated factors among public sector HCPs in South Africa.
SETTING
Primary health care clinics, community health centres and district hospitals in Nkomazi Local Municipality, Mpumalanga province.
METHODS
Quantitative study design using a cross-sectional survey. Healthcare providers (n = 1139) working in Nkomazi Local Municipality were invited to participate. Burnout was assessed using the Maslach Burnout Inventory. A demographic and occupational questionnaire, the General Help-Seeking Questionnaire and the Health and Safety Executive Indicator Tool were used.
RESULTS
A total of 302 HCPs, between 23 and 61 years, mostly female (n = 252; 83.44%) and nurses (n = 235; 77.81%) participated. High burnout was observed for Emotional Exhaustion (median score 26 [IQR {interquartile range}: 34-16]) and Personal Accomplishment (median score 29 [IQR: 34-25]). Most participants (n = 215; 71.19%) would seek help if they had an emotional problem. Bivariate analysis revealed significant associations between workplace demands, control, management support, peer support, relationships, role and change with all subscales of burnout. Multivariate regression analysis found that Personal Accomplishment improved by 0.49 (95% CI: 0.10-0.89) for every point in improved work demands, by 0.84 (95% CI: 0.01-1.67) for every point towards improved management support and by 1.19 (95% CI: 0.48-1.90) for every point towards having an improved role.
CONCLUSIONS
During 2022, HCPs working in a rural area in South Africa displayed high levels of burnout for Emotional Exhaustion and Personal Accomplishment but not for Depersonalisation.Contributions: Improvements in work demands, managerial support and role clarity may reduce burnout among HCP in a rural, primary care setting.
