Highly efficient electrocatalysts for water electrolysis are crucial to the widespread commercialization of the technology and an important step forward toward a sustainable energy future. In this study, an alternative method for boosting the electrocatalytic activity toward the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) of a well-known electrocatalyst (iridium) is presented. Iridium nanoparticles (2.1 ± 0.2 nm in diameter) functionalized with chiral molecules were found to markedly enhance the activity of the OER when compared to unfunctionalized and achiral functionalized iridium nanoparticles. At a potential of 1.55 V vs Reference Hydrogen Electrode (RHE), chiral functionalized iridium nanoparticles exhibited an average 85% enhancement in activity with respect to unfunctionalized iridium nanoparticles compared to an average 13% enhancement for the achiral functionalized iridium nanoparticle. This activity enhancement is attributed to a spin-selective electron transfer mechanism taking place on the chiral functionalized catalysts, a characteristic induced by the chirality of the ligand. This alternative path for the OER drastically reduces the production of hydrogen peroxide, which was confirmed via a colorimetric method.

BACKGROUND
The adoption of electric vehicles for mobility is seen as a major step towards the conservation of the environment. In India, slow-moving Electric 3-Wheelers (E3Ws) have been adopted for last-mile connectivity. The present study investigated the impact of slow-moving electric 3-wheelers on the environment in terms of emissions and traffic performance in mixed conditions.
METHODS
Field traffic data from a section of road in the city of Lucknow was collected and used for the calibration of the traffic model. A total of 6 scenarios were tested using traffic modelling in the open-source microsimulation software SUMO. Krauss model was used to model mixed traffic and HBEFA 4 was used to calculate the emissions of fuel-driven vehicles. In each scenario, the volume of fuel-driven vehicles was kept constant and the volume of E3Ws was varied. For the last 2 scenarios, E3Ws were replaced with modified Electric 3-wheelers (ME3Ws) and Electric Buses.
RESULTS
Initial findings showed that the average emission decreased as the number of slowly moving electric vehicles increased, but the average flow and harmonic mean speed decreased by 49.8% and 28.8%, respectively, despite keeping the original composition of fuel-driven vehicles the same in every scenario. Further analysis of scenarios revealed a strong correlation () between the reduction in the number of vehicles and the reduction in emissions like Carbon Dioxide (), which is responsible for global warming. Scenarios in which faster electric vehicles and electric buses replace slow-moving E3Ws also demonstrate emission reduction without noticeably affecting traffic performance parameters.
CONCLUSION
The study shows that the environmental benefits of E3Ws in a limited section of Lucknow road are offset by their low-speed capability. Hypothetical scenarios wherein Modified E3Ws and Electric Buses were introduced reported benefits both in terms of emissions and traffic performance.

Less than 30% of people in Africa received a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine even 18 months after vaccine development. Here, motivated by the observation that residents of remote, rural areas of Sierra Leone faced severe access difficulties, we conducted an intervention with last-mile delivery of doses and health professionals to the most inaccessible areas, along with community mobilization. A cluster randomized controlled trial in 150 communities showed that this intervention with mobile vaccination teams increased the immunization rate by about 26 percentage points within 48-72 h. Moreover, auxiliary populations visited our community vaccination points, which more than doubled the number of inoculations administered. The additional people vaccinated per intervention site translated to an implementation cost of US $33 per person vaccinated. Transportation to reach remote villages accounted for a large share of total intervention costs. Therefore, bundling multiple maternal and child health interventions in the same visit would further reduce costs per person treated. Current research on vaccine delivery maintains a large focus on individual behavioural issues such as hesitancy. Our study demonstrates that prioritizing mobile services to overcome access difficulties faced by remote populations in developing countries can generate increased returns in terms of uptake of health services.

Proteolysis-targeting chimeras (PROTACs) are heterobifunctional molecules that have emerged as a therapeutic modality to induce targeted protein degradation (TPD) by harnessing cellular proteolytic degradation machinery. PROTACs which ligand the E3 ligase in a covalent manner have attracted intense interest; however, covalent PROTACs with a broad protein of interest (POI) scope have proven challenging to discover by design. Here, we report the structure-guided design and optimization of Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) protein-targeted sulfonyl fluorides which covalently bind Ser110 in the HIF1α binding site. We demonstrate that their incorporation in bifunctional degraders induces targeted protein degradation of BRD4 or the androgen receptor without further linker optimization. Our study discloses the first covalent VHL ligands which can be implemented directly in bifunctional degrader design, expanding the substrate scope of covalent E3 ligase PROTACs.

Older adults aged 70 and older who drive have higher crash death rates per mile driven compared to middle aged (35-54 years) adults who drive in the US. Prior studies have found that depression and or antidepressant medication use in older adults are associated with an increase in the vehicular crash rate. Using data from the prospective multi-site AAA Longitudinal Research on Aging Drivers Study, this analysis examined the independent and interdependent associations of self-reported depression and antidepressant use with driving behaviors that can increase motor vehicle crash risk such as hard braking, speeding, and night-time driving in adults over age 65. Of the 2951 participants, 6.4% reported having depression and 21.9% were on an antidepressant medication. Correcting for age, race, gender, and education level, participants on an antidepressant had increased hard braking events (1.22 [1.10-1.34]) but self-reported depression alone was not associated with changes in driving behaviors.

Underwater optical imaging for information acquisition has always been an innovative and crucial research direction. Unlike imaging in the air medium, the underwater optical environment is more intricate. From an optical perspective, natural factors such as turbulence and suspended particles in the water cause issues like light scattering and attenuation, leading to color distortion, loss of details, decreased contrast, and overall blurriness. These challenges significantly impact the acquisition of underwater image information, rendering subsequent algorithms reliant on such data unable to function properly. Therefore, this paper proposes a method for underwater image restoration using Stokes linearly polarized light, specifically tailored to the challenges of underwater complex optical imaging environments. This method effectively utilizes linear polarization information and designs a system that uses the information of the first few frames to calculate the enhanced images of the later frames. By doing so, it achieves real-time underwater Stokes linear polarized imaging while minimizing human interference during the imaging process. Furthermore, the paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the deficiencies observed during the testing of the method and proposes improvement perspectives, along with offering insights into potential future research directions.

Top-down and bottom-up factors and their interaction highlight the interdependence of resources and consumer impacts on food webs and ecosystems. Variation in the strength of upwelling-mediated ecological controls (i.e., light availability and herbivory) between early and late succession stages is less well understood from the standpoint of influencing algal functional group composition. We experimentally tested the effect of light, grazing, and disturbance on rocky intertidal turf-forming algal communities. Studies were conducted on the South Island of New Zealand at Raramai on the east coast (a persistent downwelling region) and Twelve Mile Beach on the west coast (an intermittent upwelling region). Herbivory, light availability, and algal cover were manipulated and percent cover of major macroalgal functional groups and sessile invertebrates were measured monthly from October 2017 to March 2018. By distinguishing between algal functional groups and including different starting conditions in our design, we found that the mosaic-like pattern of bare rock intermingled with diverse turf-forming algae at Twelve Mile Beach was driven by a complex array of species interactions, including grazing, predation, preemptive competition and interference competition, colonization rates, and these interactions were modulated by light availability and other environmental conditions. Raramai results contrasted with those at Twelve Mile Beach in showing stronger effects of grazing and relatively weak effects of other interactions, low colonization rates of invertebrates, and light effects limited to crustose algae. Our study highlights the potential importance of an upwelling-mediated 3-way interaction among herbivory, light availability, and preemption in structuring contrasting low rocky intertidal macroalgal communities.

Self-service technology (SST) is a logistic innovation in e-commerce that enhances last-mile delivery efficiency in supply chain management. By combining Innovation Diffusion Theory with Resource Matching Theory, we proposed a comprehensive framework to explain the relationships between beliefs, attitude, and intention in Guanzhou, China. The findings revealed that attitude played a crucial role in influencing consumer intention to adopt SST and that attitude has direct and indirect effects. Additionally, consumer perceptions of compatibility, relative advantage, reliability, and complexity indirectly affected their adoption intention through attitude. These factors had positive and negative effects. The results highlighted the importance of attitudes as immediate predictors of intention, as consumer attitudes (favorable and unfavorable) were shaped by their perceptions. We conclude by recommending strategies to promote positive attitudes toward SST and enhance safety, efficiency, and the overall user experience.

Traumatic hemorrhagic shock is a common yet life-threatening occurrence across the United States and is typically managed with blood transfusions as the standard of care. However, providers caring for a Jehovah's Witness patient who refuses transfusions due to religious reasons face unique ethical challenges in upholding evidence-based shock resuscitation protocols while respecting the patient's autonomy and faith-based stance that strictly prohibits blood products. We present a complex clinical case of a 46-year-old Jehovah's Witness who developed severe hemorrhagic shock, partial amputation, and critical anemia after a traumatic 40-mile-per-hour motorcycle collision resulting in comminuted fractures and arterial disruption. Despite receiving emergent blood transfusions initially, further transfusions were declined once his identity as a practicing Jehovah's Witness was disclosed. His hemoglobin plunged to dangerously low levels of 4.6 g/dL before stabilizing to 5.3 g/dL with pharmaceutical alternatives including intravenous iron, high-dose erythropoietin, and phlebotomy minimization. Respecting patient convictions while delivering effective evidence-based shock management created significant ethical conflicts given the proven efficacy of blood transfusions. However, this complex case demonstrates that through meticulous medical and surgical care coordinated by a multi-disciplinary team applying customized non-transfusion techniques, traumatic hemorrhagic shock and life-threatening anemia can still achieve favorable outcomes without relying on transfusions when respecting faith-based refusal of blood products.

OBJECTIVE
To compare four commercially available Essix-type retainers in terms of longevity, wear characteristics, stiffness and their range of rigidity.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
An in vitro study was conducted at Queen Mary University of London. Four groups of thermoplastic materials were included: Duran (PETG), Essix C + (Polypropylene), Vivera and Zendura (Polyurethane). A working typodont was fabricated to evaluate surface wear characteristics using a wear machine with a customized jig. Retainers were measured for tensile test, and water absorption was measured at five different time points up to 6 months after initial immersion in two different physical states and two different solutions. Hydrolytic degradation was also evaluated using FTIR spectroscopy.
RESULTS
Essix C + was the most flexible retainer with Vivera the stiffest material. Zendura and Essix C + had the most surface wear (413 μm ± 80 and 652 μm ± 12, respectively) with absorption rates of up to 15 wt% in artificial saliva occurring with Zendura. Only Essix C + displayed signs of degradation following water absorption.
CONCLUSIONS
All materials had characteristic levels of flexibility and were susceptible to water absorption. Duran 1.5 mm performed similarly to Vivera in relation to stiffness and wear properties. While Zendura and Vivera have similar chemical structures, they exhibited differences concerning wear resistance and water absorption. Further clinical research evaluating the clinical relevance of these laboratory findings is required.
CLINICAL RELEVANCE
Characteristic patterns of wear and rigidity of four commercially available Essix-type retainers were observed. This information should help in the tailoring of retainer material on a case-by-case basis considering treatment-related factors and patient characteristics including parafunctional habits.
