Review
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a photochemotherapy based on local application of a photosensitive compound and subsequent exposure to a light source of adequate wavelength. It is a non-invasive therapeutic procedure widely used in oncodermatology for treatment of numerous skin cancers, but in the last years its use has been gradually extended to an increasing list of skin diseases of both infectious and inflammatory nature. Although PDT is proven as a safe and effective therapeutic option in adults, its use is not well standardized in the pediatric population. In this review, we will focus on clinical applications, mechanisms of action, protocols, and adverse events in children and adolescents. Most of pediatric experiences concerned treatment of skin cancers in Gorlin syndrome and xeroderma pigmentosum, acne vulgaris, and viral warts, but other applications emerged, such as cutaneous lymphoma and pseudo-lymphomas, necrobiosis lipoidica, hidradenitis suppurativa, dissecting cellulitis, leishmaniasis, angiofibromas, verrucous epidermal nevus, and linear porokeratosis. In these pediatric diseases, PDT appeared as an effective therapeutic alternative. The results on vitiligo were limited and not fully encouraging. Although highly versatile, PDT is not a therapy for all skin diseases, and a deeper knowledge of its mechanisms of action is required to better define its spectrum of action and safety in pediatric patients.

Tick bite is detected when the insect's body remains, and portions, such as the mouthparts, may be used to confirm the species and the potential for microbial infection. Moreover, a histopathological diagnostic standard for tick-borne illnesses has not yet been established. Thus, this study aimed to perform a histopathological examination of the lesion in a patient in whom a tick was not identified along with its bite. The patient was a 47-year-old man who presented with a lesion caused by a tick bite; the lesion was resected en bloc from the subcutaneous fat on the left side of the neck. Histopathological findings showed necrosis and thickening of the epidermis, ulceration, a strong periodic acid-Schiff stain-positive substance over the epidermis, extravascular exposure of erythrocytes in the dermis, thrombi, sclerosis of collagenous fibers, pseudolymphoma with a predominance of T cells, and marked infiltration of basophils extending from the epidermis to the subdermal sebaceous layer. Tick-bite lesions may be detected histopathologically, even if the presence of the insect body is not confirmed, as in this case, if the injection of tick saliva and local reaction of the salivary component are histologically evaluated.

We present a case of a 54-year-old male with multiple myeloma (MM) who presented with widespread pruritic erythematous lesions following ixazomib treatment. This occurred after his third cycle of treatment with ixazomib, thalidomide and dexamethasone and was controlled by potent steroids and temporary cessation of ixazomib. The strong correlation between the timeline of the rash, ixazomib treatment and subsequent cessation led to a diagnosis of a drug-induced rash. Skin biopsy histology, immunochemistry and the absence of monoclonal T-cell receptor gene rearrangement further confirmed the diagnosis of a T-cell pseudolymphoma secondary to ixazomib. Ixazomib is an oral proteasome inhibitor used in the treatment of MM. Other proteasome inhibitors have been reported to trigger cutaneous adverse effects. However, to our knowledge, this is the first report of pseudolymphoma following proteasome inhibitor use. Dermatologists should be aware of this potential effect and the possible management pathways such as cessation and dose reduction.

In dermatology, "pseudo" is often used as a prefix for entities resembling another standard condition, either morphologically or histopathologically. Correspondingly, "pseudotumor" is a term encompassing dermatological conditions which are not true proliferations, but either have a clinical resemblance to a known tumor (, Pseudokaposi's sarcoma is actually a non-neoplastic condition) or a histopathological resemblance to one (, pseudo-myogenic hemangioendothelioma named due to a histopathological resemblance between myocytes and tumor cells). Often such a nomenclature can create confusion and unnecessary alarm for both the physicians and the patients. Through this article we attempt to summarise "pseudotumors" in dermatology and classify them into clinical and histopathological "pseudotumors", so as to produce a ready reckoner for this confusing nomenclature.

CASE SUMMARY
A female neutered domestic longhair cat, aged 1 year and 5 months, presented with lymphadenomegaly and anaemia following therapy with phenobarbital for idiopathic epilepsy. Physical examination revealed pale pink mucous membranes and peripheral lymphadenomegaly. Haematology showed a regenerative anaemia (haematocrit 19.3%, reticulocyte count 118.08 ×10/l), and saline agglutination was positive. Infectious disease screening was negative and lymph node cytology was consistent with reactive lymphoid hyperplasia. A diagnosis of phenobarbital-induced reactive lymphoid hyperplasia and immune-mediated anaemia was suspected. Complete resolution of the lymphadenomegaly and anaemia was documented within 4 weeks of phenobarbital discontinuation.
RELEVANCE AND NOVEL INFORMATION
There are limited case reports of phenobarbital-induced haematological changes and lymphadenomegaly; however, the combination has not previously been reported in cats and is similar to the rare but significant syndrome in humans known as 'anticonvulsant hypersensitivity syndrome'. Anticonvulsant hypersensitivities should be considered as a potentially serious, yet reversible, sequela to phenobarbital treatment that may be mistaken for more severe illness such as neoplasia.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Tattoo: A Man With a Tattoo-Associated Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Review of Benign Tumors, Lymphoid Conditions, and Malignant Neoplasms Occurring Within a Tattoo.
Tattoos, a common form of body adornment, have been associated with numerous cutaneous complications. These include not only benign neoplasms and malignant tumors but also lymphoid conditions occurring within the tattoo. Tattoo-associated dermatomyofibroma, epidermoid inclusion cyst, hemangioma, lipoma, milia, and pilomatricoma are benign lesions that have each only been described in one individual. However, there are only a few reports of persons with either dermatofibroma or seborrheic keratoses within their tattoo; also, benign nevi within a tattoo may be more common than the number of reported individuals. In contrast, there are multiple patients with tattoo-associated pseudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia. Lymphoid conditions that have been observed in a tattoo include single patients with either lymphomatoid papulosis or B-cell lymphoma; however, several individuals have been described with pseudolymphoma developing within their tattoo. Tattoo-associated cutaneous cancer predominantly includes individuals with squamous neoplasms (such as keratoacanthomas and squamous cell carcinomas) and malignant melanoma; however, basal cell carcinoma originating within a tattoo is not uncommon. A 57-year-old man is described who received a tattoo on his left forearm 35 years earlier; he subsequently developed a squamous cell carcinoma in the black tattoo ink. In contrast to the patient in this report, tattoo-associated squamous neoplasms usually develop within a median of four weeks after tattoo inoculation, touch-up, or laser-assisted removal. Also, in contrast to the reported patient, tattoo-associated squamous neoplasms are more commonly observed in red tattoos. However, malignant melanoma and basal cell carcinoma more frequently occur in black and darker-pigmented tattoos. In addition, dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans, cutaneous leiomyosarcoma, and invasive breast duct carcinoma cutaneous metastases have each been described to appear within a patient's tattoo. It remains to be determined whether tattoo inoculation or tattoo pigment, or both have an epidemiologic role in the subsequent development of benign, lymphoid, or malignant lesions within the tattoo. Several observations support either a direct or indirect role of tattooing as a contributing factor and tattoo pigment as a carcinogen in the etiology of tattoo-associated malignancies. Investigation into the possible relationship between tattoos and cancer development is in progress.

An unusual-appearing tumor of the conjunctiva presented in a healthy 11-year-old boy. It was cystic, orange in color, and well encapsulated. After 3 weeks of no response to topical cortisone drops, an excisional biopsy was performed. The histopathology showed the lesion to be a benign lymphoid hyperplasia. .
