A 13-year-old, spayed, female mixed breed dog that had previously undergone mastectomy and ovariohysterectomy was referred for evaluation of metastasis after surgery. F-deoxy-2-D-glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET-CT) was performed and a soft-tissue mass was observed in the abdominal cavity. The characteristics of the abdominal mass were assessed and screening for metastasis was done with follow-up 18F-FDG PET scans. Uptake of F-deoxy-2-D-glucose was higher in the peripheral region and lower in the center of the abdominal mass. Exploratory laparotomy was performed, and the removed abdominal mass was consistent with a gossypiboma, which is a retained surgical sponge composed of non-absorbable material with cotton matrix. This case report describes the characteristics of 18F-FDG PET-CT imaging in a dog with an abdominal gossypiboma, which has not been reported in the veterinary literature before.

Retained surgical items that remain inside patient's body during operation are linked to increased mortality, morbidity and negative financial consequences. This case reports a 65-year's-old male nurse with bilateral inguinal swelling. With history of right sided inguinal hernia 8 years ago that underwent open repair without mesh. Swelling was reducible on right side only, positive visible and palpable cough impulse bilaterally, and surgical scar on right iliac region. Diagnosed as left side inguinal hernia with recurrent right side inguinal hernia. After informed consent and preoperative assessment, open repair started with right side, sac excised after reducing content and mesh placed. Same procedure done on left, surgical gauze was found in inguinal canal and removed successfully, operation completed. Patient did well on follow-up. Collaboration and communication is crucial between staff during operations to prevent errors and promote safety.

Alterations in collagen subtypes and matrix can potentially cause fluid loss in surgery which is important in terms of liquid loss.
OBJECTIVES
The study aimed to analyze stria gravidarum (SG) and its severity in pregnant women who had undergone cesarean section (CS) and to evaluate surgical fluid loss (SFL) that occurred during CS operation.
METHODS
The research was designed as a prospective clinical cohort study to compare the amount of SFL in the second cesarean section with the severity of SG at 34-37 weeks pregnant (N 308). The severity of SG was evaluated in the preoperative period using the Davey scoring. All patients were defined none, mild stria and severe stria. The SFL was calculated by weighing the pre-and post-operative weights of the sponges.
RESULTS
The weight gain (P = 0.008) and body mass index (BMI, P = 0.017) gradually increased toward severe SG. In correlation analysis of SFL, a positive correlation was found with Davey (r=0.791; P = 0.0001), weight gained during pregnancy (r=0.328; P = 0.0001), BMI (r=0.453; P = 0.001) and newborn weight (r=0.139; P = 0.003). In the receiver operating characteristic for the predictability of SG severity on SFL, severe SG showed a potential for SFL with 95.1% specificity and 93.2% sensitivity at 791 cut-offs (area under the curve:0.987; P = 0.00001; 95% confidence interval: 0.977-0.997).
CONCLUSIONS
The SG severity and SFL showed a very strong relationship, which was a very important finding that would affect the approach of the surgeons to the patients with SG in terms of fluid loss in CS.

BACKGROUND
The purpose was to evaluate the variation in thickness and early healing of the donor area of the palate with the placement of a collagen sponge and the use of fibrin-rich plasma (L-PRF).
MATERIAL AND METHODS
Thirty patients who required mucogingival surgery treatment were selected and distributed into 2 groups. After obtaining the free palate graft, L-PRF was placed in Group A, and a collagen sponge was placed in Group B. The healing process of the palate was evaluated at 24 hours and 7, 14, 21 and 28 days postsurgery. The thickness of the donor area (palate) was evaluated using an acrylic splint. These measurements were made before and 4 months after surgery.
RESULTS
In the collagen sponge group, less gain of the palatal mucosa was observed, with a mean difference of 0.1 ± 0.8 mm (CI: -0.341-0.518) (=0.691), whereas in the fibrin-rich plasma group, a mean difference of 0.0 ± 0.5 mm (CI: -0.229-0.229) (=0.934) was found; however, when comparing the gain of the palatal mucosa in both groups, no significant difference was observed (=0.932). The healing index at 24 hours indicated the presence of clots, on Day 28 vascularisation and total epithelialisation (100.0%), and finally, the collagen sponge group on Day 14 presented 93.3% partial vascularisation of connective tissue and 33.3% L-PRF (=0.001).
CONCLUSIONS
There was no statistically significant difference in the thickness of the palatal mucosa after the use of L-PRF and the collagen sponge. Palate thickness, connective tissue graft, fibrin-rich plasma, collagen sponge, palate healing.

A Multicenter Retrospective Cohort Study Evaluating the Clinical Outcomes of Patients with Coagulopathy Undergoing Transcatheter Arterial Embolization (TAE) for Acute Non-Neurovascular Bleeding.
: Transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) is the mainstay of treatment for acute major hemorrhage, even in patients with coagulopathy and spontaneous bleeding. Coagulopathy is associated with worsening bleeding severity and higher mortality and clinical failure rates. Furthermore, some unanswered questions remain, such as the definition of coagulopathy, the indication for TAE or conservative treatment, and the choice of embolic agent. This study aims to assess the efficacy and safety of TAE for spontaneous non-neurovascular acute bleeding in patients with coagulopathy. : This study is a multicenter analysis of retrospectively collected data of consecutive patients with coagulopathy who had undergone, from January 2018 to May 2023, transcatheter arterial embolization for the management of spontaneous hemorrhages. : During the study interval (January 2018-May 2023), 120 patients with coagulopathy underwent TAE for spontaneous non-neurovascular acute bleeding. The abdominal wall was the most common bleeding site (72.5%). The most commonly used embolic agent was polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) particles or microspheres (25.0%), whereas coils and gelatin sponge together accounted for 32.5% of the embolic agents used. Technical success was achieved in all cases, with a 92.5% clinical success rate related to 9 cases of rebleeding. Complications were recorded in 12 (10%) patients. Clinical success was significantly better in the group of patients who underwent correction of the coagulopathy within 24 h of TAE. : Transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) is effective and safe for the management of acute non-neurovascular bleeding in patients with coagulopathy. Correction of coagulopathy should not delay TAE and vice versa, as better clinical outcomes were noted in the subgroup of patients undergoing correction of coagulopathy within 24 h of TAE.

PURPOSE
Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is the most common type of liver cancer and the sixth largest common cancer worldwide. Although surgical resection, hepatic arterial chemoembolization, targeted drugs and immunotherapy are currently available, the mortality of advanced patients remains high. Therefore, new therapeutic targets are urgently needed. In recent years, many studies have found that The long non-coding RNA(lncRNA) has multiple functions in human tumors, including participating in epigenetic, transcriptional, post-transcriptional and translational regulation, and is closely related to the progression of HCC. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of AC006329.1 in HCC progression and provide theoretical guidance for finding new targets.
PATIENTS AND METHODS
AC006329.1 was screened out by transcriptome sequencing and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Then a series of functional tests in vivo and in vitro were conducted to investigate the effects of AC006329.1 on HCC progression and metastasis. Epithelial-mesenchymal transformation (EMT) of HCC was detected by Western blot and immunofluorescence staining. The targeted miRNA and downstream gene of AC006329.1 were predicted by databases and the pathway regulation axis eventually validated by dual luciferase reporter assays, qRT-PCR and WB.
RESULTS
AC006329.1 was found high expressed in HCC tissues and cell lines by qRT-PCR. The prognosis of HCC patients with high expressed AC006329.1 was poor. In vitro and in vivo, overexpression of AC006329.1 can promote the progression, metastasis and EMT of HCC by acting as a sponge of miR-127-5p to increase the expression of SHC3. In addition, up-regulation of miR-127-5p or knockdown of SHC3 can both reverse the promoting effects of AC006329.1 on progression, metastasis and EMT of HCC. Finally, WB and qRT-PCR analysis was discovered that AC006329.1 can facilitate HCC progression, EMT and metastasis by competitively inhibiting miR-127-5p to activate SHC3/ERK signaling pathway.
CONCLUSION
These above experimental results confirmed that AC006329.1 can facilitate HCC progression, EMT and metastasis by acting as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) to inhibit miR-127-5p and activate SHC3/ERK signaling pathway.

Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) was introduced in 1977 with the administration of chemotherapeutic agent to gelatin sponge particles through the hepatic artery in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and was established as conventional TACE using Lipiodol in the 1980s. In the 2000s, drug-eluting beads were developed and applied clinically. Currently, TACE is a commonly used non-surgical treatment modality for patients with HCC who are unsuitable for curative treatment. Considering the vital role of TACE in the management of HCC, it is crucial to organize current knowledge and expert opinions regarding patient preparation, procedural techniques, and post-treatment care in TACE, which can enhance therapeutic efficacy and safety. A group of 12 experts in the fields of interventional radiology and hepatology, convened by the Research Committee of the Korean Liver Cancer Association (KLCA), has developed expert consensus-based practical recommendations in TACE. These recommendations have been endorsed by the Korean Society of Interventional Radiology and provide useful information and direction in performing TACE procedure as well as pre- and post- procedural patient care.

BACKGROUND
One of the most common surgical emergencies, intestinal obstruction is rarely the result of an inadvertently retained foreign object (also known as a gossypiboma), which may not present symptoms for a lifetime. It also carries additional legal burdens, which may account for the rarity of its reports.
CASE PRESENTATION
We report a 24-year-old Sudanese female with a history of emergency Caesarean section two years before the admission presented with abdominal distension and absolute constipation, which was diagnosed as intestinal obstruction with a retained gauzed found within the small intestine. Moreover, a review of recent African-reported cases was done to find relatively similar cases.
CONCLUSION
Adhering to the standard of care in surgical theaters and integrating new methods of prevention like tagged gauze could help to decrease the rate of such cases in the future.

BACKGROUND
To assess the feasibility and safety of a gelfoam torpedo plugging technique for embolization of the transsplenic access channel in adult patients following transvenous portal vein interventions.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Between 09/2016 and 08/2021, an ultrasound guided transsplenic portalvenous access (TSPVA) was established in twenty-four adult patients with a 21-G needle and 4-F microsheath under ultrasound guidance. Afterwards, sheaths ranging from 4-F to 8-F were inserted as needed for the procedure. Following portal vein intervention, the splenic access tract was embolized with a gelfoam-based tract plugging (GFTP) technique. TSPVA and GFTP were performed twice in two patients. Patients' pre-interventional and procedural characteristics were analyzed to assess the feasibility and safety of the plugging technique according Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE) classification system. Values are given as median (minimum;maximum). Subgroup analysis of intercostal vs. subcostal puncture site for TSPVA was performed using the two-sided Mann-Whitney-U test or Student's t-test and Fisher's exact test. Level of significance was p < 0.05.
RESULTS
The study population's age was 56 (29;71) years and 54% were female patients. Primary liver disease was predominantly liver cirrhosis with 62% of the patients. Pre-interventional model for end-stage liver disease score was 9 (6;25), international normalized ratio was 1.15 (0.86;1.51), activated partial thromboplastin time was 33s (26s;52s) and platelet count was 88.000/µL (31.000;273.000/µL). Ascites was present in 76% of the cases. Craniocaudal spleen diameter was 17cm (10cm;25cm). Indication for TSPVA was assisted transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt placement in 16 cases and revision in two cases, portal vein stent placement in five cases and variceal embolization in three cases. TSPVA was successfully established in all interventions; interventional success rate was 85% (22/26). The splenic access time was 33min (10min;133min) and the total procedure time was 208min (110min;429min). Splenic access was performed with a subcostal route in 11 interventions and with an intercostal route in 15 interventions. Final sheath size was 4-F in 17 cases, 5-F in three cases, 6-F in five cases, 7-F in two cases and 8-F in one case. A median of two gelfoam cubes was used for GFTP. TSPVA- and GFTP-related complications occurred in 4 of 26 interventions (15%) with a subcapsular hematoma of the spleen in two patients (CIRSE grade 1), access-related infection in one patient (CIRSE grade 3) and both in one patient (CIRSE grade 3). In detail, one access-related complication occurred in a patient with subcostal TSPVA (CIRSE grade 1 complication) and the other three complications occurred in patients with intercostal TSPVA (one CIRSE grade 1 complication and two CIRSE grade 3 complication) (p = 0.614). No patient required interventional or surgical treatment due to puncture tract bleeding.
CONCLUSION
Gelfoam-based plugging of the puncture tract was feasible and safe for transsplenic access in adult patients undergoing percutaneous portal vein interventions. The lack of major bleeding complications and complete absorption of the gelatine sponge make it a safe alternative to transjugular and transhepatic access and re-interventions via the splenic route.
