Background and Objectives Over the last years, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has been reported on a high incidence in pediatric populations and has been associated with numerous extraintestinal manifestations, making its management a real challenge for the pediatric gastroenterologist. Dermatological manifestations in IBD are either specific, related to the disease activity or treatment-associated, or non-specific. This literature review aims to identify and report the dermatological manifestations of IBD in children, the correlation between their appearance and the demographical characteristics, the relationship between these lesions and disease activity, and to highlight the impact of dermatological manifestations on an IBD treatment regime.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
A systemic literature review was performed, investigating articles and case reports on dermatological manifestations in children with IBD starting from 2005. A total of 159 potentially suitable articles were identified and after the exclusion process, 75 articles were selected.
RESULTS
The most common dermatological manifestations reported in pediatric IBD are erythema nodosum and pyoderma gangrenosum. More rare cases of metastatic Crohn's disease, epidermolysis bullosa acquisita, small-vessel vasculitis, necrotizing vasculitis, leukocytoclastic vasculitis, cutaneous polyarteritis nodosa, and Sweet's syndrome have been reported. Oral manifestations of IBD are divided into specific (tag-like lesions, mucogingivitis, lip swelling with vertical fissures, aphthous stomatitis, and pyostomatitis vegetans) and non-specific. IBD treatment may present with side effects involving the skin and mucosa. Anti-tumor necrosis factor agents have been linked to opportunistic skin infections, psoriasiform lesions, and a potentially increased risk for skin cancer. Cutaneous manifestations such as acrodermatitis enteropathica, purpuric lesions, and angular cheilitis may appear secondary to malnutrition and/or malabsorption.
CONCLUSIONS
The correct diagnosis of dermatological manifestations in pediatric IBD is of paramount importance because of their impact on disease activity, treatment options, and a patient's psychological status.

BACKGROUND
Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is the most common ulcerative disease that affects oral mucosa. The coating agents, topical analgesics, and topical steroids are usually used as treatment methods. has been used for RAS treatment based on its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immunomodulatory properties. In this study, a systemic review on the therapeutic effect of topical licorice on RAS management was performed.
METHODS
Science Direct, Scopus, Cochrane databases, PubMed Google Scholar, and ResearchGate were searched up to September 2021 to find all English randomized clinical trials studying the effect of , or its compositions on RAS. Meta-analysis was not conducted because of data heterogeneity. Articles were reviewed qualitatively, and only those with a Jadad score ≥3 were included. Animal studies, , review papers, non-English papers, and case reports were excluded.
RESULTS
Six studies with 314 subjects were included after screening. The result showed licorice has significant effects on RAS pain reduction, ulcer size, and healing time. Its effectiveness is related to its dose-dependent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects through several mechanisms. It also has antibacterial effects against and as another mechanism of action in RAS treatment. In addition, licorice can elevate the epidermal growth factor (EGF) level compared to the control group, which has an essential role in oral mucosal tissue integrity.
CONCLUSION
Licorice extract has been used in different dosage forms, including paste, patch, and mouthwash with concentrations of 1% or 5%. The healing time after licorice therapy is expected to be within 4-8 days. Licorice did not show any adverse effect in the intervention groups, indicating its effectiveness and safety in RAS treatment.

BACKGROUND
Oral Lichen Planus is a common chronic inflammatory disease of the oral mucosa. The prevalence in adults ranges between 0.5% and 2%, while in children is reported to be about 0,03%. Clinical features of Oral Lichen Planus could be variable in both adults and children, ranging from painless white hyperkeratotic lesions to painful erythematous atrophic ones. Actually, there are no systematic reviews in the literature on OLP in children, whereby this paper aims to summarize all the pathophysiological aspects and identify all cases described in the literature of Oral Lichen Planus in children, reporting their clinical characteristics.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
A systematic review of the literature was performed in online databases including PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Science Direct, EMBASE. In addition, in order to identify reports not otherwise identifiable, an analysis of the gray literature was performed on google scholar and in Open Gray.
RESULTS
By literature analysis, it emerged that most cases were reported from India. The mean age at time of diagnosis of the disease was 11 years, ranging from 3 to 17 years. The most frequent pattern was the reticular pattern followed by plaque-like, erosive, atrophic, sclerosus, and bullous. The buccal mucosa was the most involved oral site, followed by the tongue, lips and gingiva.
CONCLUSIONS
Although Oral Lichen Planus in children is rare, it may cause oral discomfort and need to be differentiated from other oral white lesions and/or chronic ulcers.

Oral mucositis (OM) is a common side effect of cancer therapies. It causes ulcerative, painful lesions in the oral cavity that can provoke malnutrition, increased risk of infection, longer hospital stays, and seriously affect the quality of life. Cooling the mucosa with oral cryotherapy (OC) during and/or after chemotherapy is the most accessible and tolerable intervention available. The aim of this study is to define the efficacy of OC for preventing OM induced by chemotherapy/radiotherapy in adult patients with cancer. Secondary endpoints include associated problems as pain. A systematic search was performed using the Pubmed, WOS (Web of Science), Cochrane Library, CINAHL, and BVS databases for articles published up to 2010. After inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied, a total of eight articles were analyzed in this review. In seven of the eight articles, the incidence of OM of all grades was significantly lower in the OC group compared with the no-OC group. Use of opioids and level of pain were also significantly reduced. OC is an effective intervention to reduce the incidence of OM induced by chemotherapy as well as the associated severity and pain. Based on these results, OC with only water or with chamomile, associated or not with other mouthwash therapies, is an effective intervention to reduce the incidence of OM induced by chemotherapy as well as the associated severity and pain.

Oral mucositis is a common and debilitating side effect induced by stem cell transplantation that is experienced by cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy. This condition involves inflammation and ulceration of the oral mucosa, leading to pain, difficulty with eating and speaking, and an increased risk of infections. Mucositis not only compromises the quality of life for cancer patients, but also affects treatment outcomes and may necessitate dose reductions or treatment delays. This scientific article provides a comprehensive overview of mucositis. The purpose of this literature review with a meta-analysis is to evaluate the efficacy of laser therapy in treating post-transplant mucositis. : A search of the literature from 3 May 2023 was carried out on three online databases, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. Only studies that treated patients with laser therapy were considered; only studies with the placebo-treated control group were considered. Review Manager version 5.2.8 (Cochrane Collaboration) was used for the pooled analysis. We measured the std. mean difference between the two groups (laser and placebo). : There were 230 papers included in this review. Two hundred twenty-seven were excluded. Furthermore, a manual search was performed. After the search phase, three articles were considered in the study. The overall effect showed differences in the degree of mucositis in the laser-treated patients compared with the placebo group. The meta-analysis shows a reduction in the degree of mucositis in the patients treated with laser therapy (std. mean difference -1.34 [-1.98; -0.98]; C.I. 95%). : The application of laser therapy results in decreased severity of oral mucositis from radiation and chemotherapy. Our study shows that the application of low-level laser therapy in the treatment of transplant mucositis has excellent efficacy in relieving the symptoms and severity of mucositis.

Lymphoepithelial carcinoma (LEC) is a rare malignancy. Histologically, it is an undifferentiated carcinoma with an intermixed reactive lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate. Herein, we report two cases of LEC in the head and neck region that presented to Oulu University Hospital. Our first case is a 30-year-old man with LEC in the left maxillary sinus. The second case is a 49-year-old man with LEC in the soft palate and uvula with regional lymph node metastases at diagnosis. In addition, a systematic review of the literature from 1980 to 2010 was performed with MEDLINE and cross-references were searched manually. Case reports and clinical series of oral, oropharyngeal, nasal, and paranasal sinus LECs were reviewed revealing a total of 110 cases. Most of the oral cases were found in the tonsils (n = 29), oropharynx (n = 19), and in oral mucosa (n = 18), while sinonasal cases (n = 40) were mainly in the paranasal sinuses and nasal cavity. From 37 case reports, including ours, the median age was 58 and 62 years for sinonasal and oral/oropharyngeal LECs, respectively. Oral and oropharyngeal LECs have a 70.0% tendency to metastasize and 16.6% spread locally. In contrast, none of the nasal and paranasal LECs metastasized, but 60% spread locally. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) had been detected in 87.5% of all tested LEC cases. Treatment of LECs, during the last decade, has largely consisted of surgery, combined with radiotherapy or chemoradiation. Although local spread or nodal metastases are fairly common at the time of diagnosis, the mortality rate of adequately treated LEC patients is low.

OBJECTIVE
The objective is to summarize and characterize the long-term success of anterior augmentation urethroplasty (AU) in published series. The current literature on AU consists largely of retrospective series reporting intermediate follow-up and incompletely characterize the long term outcomes of AU.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
A systematic literature review was performed consistent with PRISMA guidelines to characterize long-term outcomes of AU with a minimum upper limit follow-up of 100 months. Penile/preputial skin flaps and graft and oral mucosal graft urethroplasties were included. The primary outcome was stricture-free survival for one-stage AU. Secondary analysis evaluated differences in outcomes based on two failure definitions: the need for intervention versus presence of recurrent stricture on cystoscopy or urethrography. Hazard rates were induced from the reported failure rates of one-stage AU and fixed and random effect models were fitted to the data. Additional subset analysis, removing potential confounders (lichen sclerosus, hypospadias and penile skin graft), was performed.
RESULTS
Ten studies met inclusion criteria, and two studies reported separate outcomes for grafts and flaps, and thus were included separately in the analysis. The mean hazard rate across all studies was 0.0044, the corresponding survival rates at 1 year 0.948, 5 years 0.766, 10 years 0.587, and 15 years 0.45. Subset analysis of the 4 select and homogeneous studies noted 1, 5, 10, and 15 years survival rates of 0.97, 0.96, 0.74, and 0.63, respectively.
CONCLUSIONS
The long-term success rates of augmentation urethroplasty are appear to be worse than previously appreciated and patients should be counseled accordingly. Available at. https://www.intbrazjurol.com.br/pdf/aop/2019-0242RW.pdf.

Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic inflammatory condition affecting the oral mucosa. The current review investigated the potential effectiveness of injectable platelet-rich fibrin (i-PRF) as a treatment for OLP when compared to other interventions. The current review adhered to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. A comprehensive search strategy was implemented across databases such as PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, CINAHL, and Google Scholar. The search utilized a combination of Boolean operators (AND, OR) and Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) terms to capture relevant studies. Comparative clinical studies focusing on i-PRF as a treatment for OLP and other interventions were included. Outcomes assessed were pain, surface area of lesions, and patient satisfaction. Review Manager 5.4 was used for statistical analysis. The Risk of Bias 2.0 (RoB 2.0) tool was used to assess the methodological quality of the studies. Three studies were included for the final analysis. The findings indicated that both the i-PRF and comparison treatment groups demonstrated reductions in pain and lesion size. The post-treatment Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) scores showed a decrease in pain intensity, and there was an improvement in lesion extension in the i-PRF-treated sites. The results also revealed increased patient satisfaction with i-PRF treatment. Adverse effects were not reported or specified in the included studies. Quantitative analysis for pain (VAS) showed a mean difference of 0.38 (95% CI: 0.63-1.40), but there was no significant difference between the i-PRF and control groups at p=0.46. Though intragroup differences showed statistically significant differences between pre and post intervention, intergroup differences were not significant for any of the assessed outcomes. The findings from this study suggest that i-PRF holds promise as a potential treatment for OLP. The use of i-PRF resulted in pain reduction, lesion size improvement, and increased patient satisfaction. However, it is important to consider the limitations of the included studies, such as variability in study designs, small sample sizes, and the limited number of studies.

BACKGROUND
Intraoral adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) arising from minor salivary glands (MSG) is a rare malignancy associated with delayed diagnosis and unfavorable outcomes. This study aimed to comprehensively review ACC of MSGs, focusing on clinical characteristics, imaging modalities, treatment approaches, and long-term outcomes.
METHODS
A systematic search was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, and MEDLINE databases to identify relevant articles reporting cases of ACC of MSGs between January 1997 and March 2023. The study was registered in PROSPERO (ID: CRD42023449478). A total of 10 studies that met the inclusion criteria were selected for critical review. In total, 902 patients were diagnosed with ACC of MSGs with an age range of 44.3 to 63 years, and an average age of 56.6 years. The female to male ratio ranges from 1:1 to 2.4:1. Regarding the primary site of ACC, the palate was the most common location, accounting for 30.5% to 83.3%, followed by the buccal mucosa, floor of the mouth, and lip and the retromolar area. For histology, the solid mass pattern was the most prevalent, seen in 95.2% of patients, followed by the cribriform pattern. Regarding treatment modalities, surgery was the most common approach, applied in 76.3% of cases, with a combination of surgery and radiotherapy used in 29.0% of cases. A smaller fraction, 3.2%, received a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, and 8.3% underwent radiotherapy alone. Local recurrence rates varied between 1% and 28.5%, and distant metastasis occurred in 18.2% to 33.3% of cases, predominantly to lymph nodes (14.5%). An analysis of overall survival across various stages and patient numbers indicated a 5-year survival rate of 68.0%. The findings of this study provide valuable insights for physicians in making treatment decisions and emphasize the need for ongoing research and collaborative clinical efforts to improve the management and outcomes of this challenging disease.
CONCLUSION
ACC of MSGs is a multifaceted condition typically manifesting as asymptomatic enlargement and ulceration. This disease is marked by distinct histopathological patterns and perineural invasion (PNI). Recognizing these distinctive aspects is key in shaping the treatment plan, which can range from surgical procedures to radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and evolving targeted treatments. Continuous research and collaborative clinical efforts remain critical for ongoing progress in the treatment and management of this challenging condition.

INTRODUCTION
Aloe vera is well known for its medicinal properties which lead to its application in treating various diseases. Its use in treating oral lesions has not been much documented in literature.
AIM
Although, systematic reviews on aloe vera and its extracts have been done earlier, but in relation to oral diseases this is the first systematic review. The aim of the present systematic review was to compile evidence based studies on the effectiveness of Aloe vera in treatment of various oral diseases.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Computerized literature searches were performed to identify all published articles in the subject. The following databases were used: PUBMED [MEDLINE], SCOPUS, COCHRANE DATABASE, EMBASE and SCIENCE DIRECT using specific keywords. The search was limited to articles published in English or with an English Abstract. All articles (or abstracts if available as abstracts) were read in full. Data were extracted in a predefined fashion. Assessment was done using Jadad score.
RESULTS
Fifteen studies satisfied the inclusion criteria. Population of sample study ranged from 20 patients to 110 patients with clinically diagnosed oral mucosal lesions. Out of 15 studies, five were on patients with oral lichen planus, two on patients with oral submucous fibrosis, other studies were carried on patients with burning mouth syndrome, radiation induced mucositis, candida associated denture stomatitis, xerostomic patients and four were on minor recurrent apthous stomatitis. Most studies showed statistically significant result demonstrating the effectiveness of Aloe vera in treatment of oral diseases.
CONCLUSION
Although there are promising results but in future, more controlled clinical trials are required to prove the effectiveness of Aloe vera for management of oral diseases.
