(propionibacterium avidum) A species of anaerobic, Gram-positive, rod shaped bacteria assigned to the phylum Actinobacteria. This species is non-spore forming, catalase positive, indole negative, hydrolyzes esculin, gelatin, and casein, but not starch, and does not reduce nitrate.
