Enzyme
cytochrome oxidase
Definitions related to cytochrome c oxidase:
-
(cytochrome oxidase) Mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase is a copper/cytochrome a protein which reduces molecular oxygen to water via superoxide, while oxidizing cytochrome c term may also be used to index other cytochrome oxidases (e.g., o or d of bacteria).CRISP ThesaurusNational Institutes of Health, 2006
-
An enzyme complex that plays a role in the electron transport cascade leading to ATP synthesis.NCI ThesaurusU.S. National Cancer Institute, 2021
-
(electron transport complex iv) A multisubunit enzyme complex containing CYTOCHROME A GROUP; CYTOCHROME A3; two copper atoms; and 13 different protein subunits. It is the terminal oxidase complex of the RESPIRATORY CHAIN and collects electrons that are transferred from the reduced CYTOCHROME C GROUP and donates them to molecular OXYGEN, which is then reduced to water. The redox reaction is simultaneously coupled to the transport of PROTONS across the inner mitochondrial membrane.NLM Medical Subject HeadingsU.S. National Library of Medicine, 2021
