  • A species of facultatively anaerobic, Gram negative, rod shaped bacterium assigned to the phylum Proteobacteria. This species is motile by peritrichous flagella, indole positive and hemolytic in culture. E. tarda is found in the intestinal tracts of snakes and seals and is a causative agent of gastroenteritis in humans.
