Definitions related to olfactory bulb:
  • The portion of the vertebrate forebrain that lies behind the ethmoid bones; it begins the rhinencephalon.
    CDISC Terminology
Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium (CDISC), 2021
  • Anatomical structure located in the vertebral forebrain that receives neural input regarding odors that have been detected by cells within the nasal cavity. The axons of olfactory receptor cells extend into the olfactory bulb.
    NCI
    U.S. National Cancer Institute, 2021
  • Ovoid body resting on the CRIBRIFORM PLATE of the ethmoid bone where the OLFACTORY NERVE terminates. The olfactory bulb contains several types of nerve cells including the mitral cells, on whose DENDRITES the olfactory nerve synapses, forming the olfactory glomeruli. The accessory olfactory bulb, which receives the projection from the VOMERONASAL ORGAN via the vomeronasal nerve, is also included here.
    NLM Medical Subject Headings
U.S. National Library of Medicine, 2025
  • Segment of neural tree organ which is continuous with a set of olfactory nerves and an olfactory tract.
    Foundational Model of Anatomy
    University of Washington, 2017
  • Olfactory bulb, structure located in the forebrain of vertebrates that receives neural input about odours detected by cells in the nasal cavity. The axons of olfactory receptor (smell receptor) cells extend directly into the highly organized olfactory bulb, where information about odours is...
