Definitions related to pulmonary blastoma:
-
A biphasic primary lung neoplasm, belonging to the group of sarcomatoid lung carcinomas (SLCs). The tumor contains both an epithelial well-differentiated component, showing tubular architecture resembling the normal fetal lung, and a mesenchymal undifferentiated stroma with a so-called ''blastema-like'' configuration that resembles an embryonic lung.OrphaNetINSERM, 2021
-
A biphasic tumor that consists of fetal adenocarcinoma (typically low-grade) and primitive mesenchymal stroma. Foci of specific mesenchymal differentiation (osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, or rhabdomyosarcoma) may also be present, but are not required for the diagnosis. Most patients are smokers. The prognosis is very poor. (WHO 2015)NCI ThesaurusU.S. National Cancer Institute, 2021
-
A malignant neoplasm of the lung composed chiefly or entirely of immature undifferentiated cells (i.e., blast forms) with little or virtually no stroma. (From Stedman, 25th ed)NLM Medical Subject HeadingsU.S. National Library of Medicine, 2021
