A recombinant urate oxidase enzyme isolated from a genetically-modified strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Urate oxidase catalyzes the oxidation of uric acid to the excretable metabolite allantoin, a molecule that is 5-10 times more water-soluble than uric acid.
