Evidence from the literature suggests an association between the microbiome and asthma development. Here, we aimed to identify the current evidence for the association between asthma and the upper airway, lower airway and/or the gut microbiome. An electronic systemic search of PubMed, EBSCO, Science Direct and Web of Science was conducted until February 2022 to identify the eligible studies. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale and the Systematic Review Centre for Laboratory Animal Experimentation risk of the bias tools were used to assess quality of included studies. Twenty-five studies met the inclusion criteria. Proteobacteria and Firmicutes were identified as being significantly higher in the asthmatic children compared with the healthy controls. The high relative abundance of , and in the microbiome of the upper airway in early infancy was associated with a higher risk of asthma development later in life. The gut microbiome analyses indicated that a high relative abundance of in early childhood might be associated with asthma development later in life. The findings reported here serve as potential microbiome signatures associated with the increased risk of asthma development. There is a need for large longitudinal studies to further identify high-risk infants, which will help in design strategies and prevention mechanisms to avoid asthma early in life.

BACKROUND
This systematic review aims to examine the associations between features of gut microbiome and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) risk or severity in children, adolescents and young adults.
METHODS
Eligible studies were identified in PubMed and Google Scholar databases until December 31, 2020.
RESULTS
The search identified a total of 1197 items, of which 11 were included in this systematic review. The findings regarding alpha, beta diversity, bacterial phyla, orders and families were inconclusive. At the genus level an increased abundance of Odoribacter (two studies) and Eggerthella (two studies) was found in ADHD; on the contrary, decreased abundance of Faecalibacterium (three studies) was noted, whereas one study suggested its inverse association with ADHD severity and hyperactivity. One study indicated that Bacteroides species also correlated with levels of hyperactivity and impulsivity. At the species level, a lower abundance of Faecalibacterium prausnitzii, but higher of Odoribacter splanchnicus and Bacteroides uniformis was reported.
CONCLUSIONS
This systematic review highlights associations between gut microbiome features and ADHD. Potential mechanisms differ by microorganism and include effects on neurotransmitter production, dopamine metabolism, modulation of inflammation and neurodevelopment through the release of cytokines.
IMPACT
The existence of correlations between features of gut microbiome and ADHD manifestation or its severity in children, adolescents and young adults. Associations between gut microbiome features and ADHD are highlighted. Potential mechanisms seem to differ by microorganism and include effects on neurotransmitter production, dopamine metabolism, modulation of inflammation and neurodevelopment through the release of cytokines. As correlations between gut microbiome features and ADHD seem to exist, additional studies are needed for further investigation.

: Probiotic microorganisms, commonly used to bolster gut health, might also have benefits for dental health, according to certain studies. Probiotics (PBs) are associated with reducing cariogenic pathogens and protecting against periodontal diseases, although the exact way they function in the mouth is not fully clear. Our study aimed to explore the use of PBs to improve oral health, focusing on issues such as cavities, gum disease, bad breath, mucositis, and periimplantitis. : We utilized the Boolean keywords "Probiotics" AND "Oral health" to search the databases of PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. The search was restricted to English-language papers published from 1 January 2019 to 13 April 2023. : A total of 3460 articles were found through our computerized search. After removing duplicates, reviewing the papers, and determining their relevance, 12 were selected for inclusion. : Assessing how bacteria in food or dietary supplements might alter the stable oral microbiota is a complex task. Although probiotic microorganisms have been found to have proven therapeutic benefits, their application in dental health is not yet solidly backed by evidence. Further research is necessary to thoroughly understand the long-term effects of probiotic bacteria on the oral environment, including their ability to colonize and form biofilms.

In the transition to the post-petroleum economy, there is a growing demand for novel enzymes with high process performances to replace traditional chemistry with a more 'green' approach. To date, microorganisms encompass the richest source of industrial biocatalysts, but the Earth-living microbiota remains largely untapped by using traditional isolation and cultivation methods. Metagenomics, which is culture independent, represents a powerful tool for discovering novel enzymes from unculturable microorganisms. Herein, we summarize the variety of approaches adopted for mining environmental DNA and, based on a systematic literature review, we provide a comprehensive list of 332 industrially relevant enzymes discovered from metagenomes within the last three years.

Lactobionic acid is a comparatively less explored lactose derivative with impressive biofunctional qualities, and is currently being used by the advanced chemical and pharmaceutical research industries. It is an aldonic acid with probiotics, antimicrobial, antioxidant, calcium chelating activity. In dairy and food products, it can be used to improve flavor, texture, yield and shelf life with additional health benefits. The biochemical method for producing lactobionic acid makes it safe for humans to consume as food or medicine. This systematic review describes the various bioproduction methods of lactobionic acid. This study emphasizes the production method, conversion rate, and specific yield of various microorganisms and enzymes employed in biosynthesis of lactobionic acid. Scopus advanced search is used for database mining. Original, traceable peer-reviewed research articles directly related to lactobionic acid are selected for this systematic review. The selected articles are grouped for ease of discussion and understanding. In the last 75 years, several bioproduction methods of lactobionic acid have been developed. By fine-tuning the microbial incubation conditions, the productivity of lactobionic acid can be significantly improved. The oxidoreductase enzymes responsible for the conversion of lactose can be purified from the system by advanced membrane technology. In the presence of a suitable redox mediator and regenerative enzyme, an efficient continuous lactobionic acid production system can be developed. To date, several methods are available for the complete conversion of lactose to lactobionic acid with an impressive specific production rate. This review will help researchers and industries to have better insights and understanding of the bioproduction of lactobionic acid.

INTRODUCTION
Although spinal infections have always been present recently their incidence has increased, in partly fostered by the advances in medicine (i.e. compromised immunity, chronic diseases, increasingly complex spinal procedures, etc.) and increased life expectancy.
EVIDENCE ACQUISITION
Using PubMed for this systematic review, the main spine infections types will be addressed focusing in the minimally invasive surgical techniques that can be used in their treatment.
EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS
Spontaneous and iatrogenic pyogenic and non-pyogenic spine infections can be treated in many different ways depending on their extension and location as well as on their causative microorganisms. The indications of percutaneous image-guided, endoscopic and microsurgical treatment techniques will be updated.
CONCLUSIONS
In spine infections minimally invasive surgical techniques show a great potential as to be safe, effective, with low surgical morbidity and fast patients' recovery.

Infective Endocarditis (IE) is associated with significant mortality. Interestingly, IE in patients with liver transplantation has not been adequately described. The aim of this review was to systematically review all published cases of IE in liver transplant recipients and describe their epidemiology, microbiology, clinical characteristics, treatment and outcomes. A systematic review of PubMed, Scopus and Cochrane Library (through 2 January 2021) for studies providing epidemiological, clinical, microbiological, treatment data and outcomes of IE in liver transplant recipients was conducted. A total of 39 studies, containing data for 62 patients, were included in the analysis. The most common causative pathogens were gram-positive microorganisms in 69.4%, fungi in 25.8%, and gram-negative microorganisms in 9.7% of cases, while in 9.3% IE was culture-negative. The aortic valve was the most commonly infected valve followed by mitral, tricuspid and the pulmonary valve. Aminoglycosides, vancomycin and aminopenicillins were the most commonly used antimicrobials, and surgical management was performed in half of the cases. Clinical cure was noted in 57.4%, while overall mortality was 43.5%. To conclude, this systematic review thoroughly describes IE in liver transplant recipients and provides information on epidemiology, clinical presentation, treatment and outcomes.

The balance between different bacterial species is essential for optimal vaginal health. Microbiome includes the host genome along with microorganism genomes and incorporates the biotic and abiotic factors, reflecting the habitat as a whole. A significant difference exists in the composition and number of the human microbiota in healthy individuals. About one-tenth of the total body microbiota exists in the urogenital tract and these can be identified by microscopy and culture-based methods, quantitative PCR, next generation and whole genome sequencing. The trend of delaying the planning of pregnancy to a later age nowadays has resulted in magnifying the use of assisted reproductive treatment (ART). Hence, genital microbiota and its impact on fertility has generated immense interest in recent years. In this systematic review, we searched the available evidence on the microbiota of the genital tract in women undergoing ART and studied the outcomes of IVF in different microbial compositions. Despite the inconsistency of the studies, it is evident that vaginal, cervical and endometrial microbiota might play a role in predicting ART outcomes. However, there is no clear evidence yet on whether the diversity, richness, quantity, or composition of species in the maternal genital tract significantly affects the outcomes in ARTs.

OBJECTIVE
Visceral artery aneurysms as a result of arterial degenerative disease are rare (0.1%-2%), and the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) accounts for 3.2% of all reported series. The current incidence of inferior mesenteric artery (IMA) aneurysm is unknown. However, infective causes (mycotic) of SMA and IMA aneurysm as a result of primary, secondary, and cryptogenic etiology remain a separate entity and attain fewer cases in the literature. Currently, there is no consensus on their presentation, diagnosis, and overall management.
METHODS
A systematic review and meta-aggregation of literature from 1944 to March 2015 in the English language and of adult subjects in MEDLINE, Ovid, CINAHL, and the Cochrane database was conducted.
RESULTS
The median age of patients with SMA aneurysm was 36 (range, 14-92) years, with a significant male predominance (73% vs 27%). In order of prevalence, abdominal pain (n = 25; 65%), low-grade fever (n = 23; 60%), malaise (n = 10; 26%), weight loss (n = 9; 23%), and nausea and vomiting (n = 8; 20%) were the most common presenting signs and symptoms. The most common microorganism was Streptococcus (n = 18; 47%), followed by Staphylococcus (n = 11; 28%). The investigative modality of choice was computed tomography (n = 22; 57.8%), followed by ultrasonography of the abdomen (n = 9; 23%). Primary etiology was noted in 5.4%, secondary in 71%, and cryptogenic in 13% of all cases. Aneurysmectomy alone was associated with bowel resection in four cases (10.5%), whereas aneurysmectomy with interposition vein grafting required no further intervention. The inpatient mortality after surgery was 7.8%, and the overall mortality was 15%. The median follow-up was 12 months (range, 2-120 months). The median age of patients with IMA aneurysm was 48 (range, 22-64) years, with a male predominance of 2:1 and abdominal pain in all cases (n = 3; 100%). The most common microorganism was Streptococcus (n = 2; 66.6%), and the operation of choice was aneurysmectomy (n = 2; 66.6%) after computed tomography scan (n = 3; 100%) as an investigative modality of choice.
CONCLUSIONS
The pentad of abdominal pain, pyrexia of unknown origin, malaise, weight loss, and nausea remains the most convincing presentation of mycotic aneurysms of the SMA and IMA. Computed tomography is the investigative modality of choice, and such patients are best served with aneurysmectomy alone in IMA aneurysms and interposition vein grafting in SMA aneurysms after initiation of antimicrobial therapy on suspicion of the diagnosis.

Fumigants have been used for decades to control soil-borne pathogens of high-value crops, and increasing evidence indicates they can affect non-target soil microbial communities. Understanding the impacts of these products on soil microorganisms is of critical importance not only for evaluating their environmental safety, but also because soil microbial communities have a central role in soil quality and nutrient cycling, plant growth, and crop production. Thus, we conducted a systematic review and metanalysis study of fumigant impacts on non-target soil microorganisms. In general, we found that fumigation decreases the bacterial diversity and abundance of total bacteria and nitrogen-cycling genes by approximately 10-50% during the first four weeks after application compared to non-treated soils. These decreases appear transient and tend to diminish or disappear after four weeks. Increases in bacterial diversity and abundance can occur after fumigation but are less common. Fumigant application can also alter bacterial community composition during the first six weeks after treatment by significantly increasing and/or decreasing the relative abundance of bacterial taxa involved in key soil functions such as N-cycling and plant-growth promotion. Knowledge gaps and areas where future research efforts should be prioritized to improve our understanding of the impact of organic fumigants on non-target soil microorganisms are discussed.
