INTRODUCTION
Optimizing dietary intake during pregnancy and lactation is crucial to the growth and development of children and their lifelong health. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to describe the nutrient intakes of pregnant and lactating women in Indonesia and Malaysia, countries that are experiencing rapid nutrition transition in Southeast Asia.
METHODS
We screened 2,258 studies published between January 1980 and March 2021. The nutrient intakes of pregnant and lactating women were quantitatively analyzed to calculate the percentage of adequacy using national recommended daily allowances or nutrient intakes (RDA/RNI) and estimated average requirements (EAR) for micronutrients. Standardized mean differences (SMD) between dietary intake and RDA/RNI were determined for selected nutrients.
RESULTS
Fifty-three studies were included and showed that energy and macronutrient intakes among pregnant and lactating women in both countries were below the RDA/RNI. In addition, most studies reported that women failed to meet the EAR for vitamin D (<70% EAR), vitamin E (<50% EAR), and water-soluble vitamins (<80% EAR) except for vitamin C and A among Malaysians. Moreover, calcium, potassium, and iron intakes of pregnant women were <60% EAR in Indonesia and <80% EAR in Malaysia. Phosphorus intake among pregnant women in both countries and sodium intake among Malaysian pregnant women exceeded 100% EAR. Indonesian lactating women had <60% EAR for calcium and potassium intakes, while Malaysian women had more than 100% EAR. For 21 studies reporting overall protein intakes, the standard mean difference (SMD) was -2.26 (95% CI; -2.98, -1.54) below the RDA/RNI for pregnant women and -0.67 SMD (95% CI -15.7, -11.5) for lactating women. When the four studies from Malaysia were analyzed separately, protein intakes of pregnant women were above the RNI. Moreover, low intakes of vitamin D, vitamin C, calcium, and iron, but sufficient intakes in vitamin A, zinc, and phosphorus were observed in pregnant women in both countries.
CONCLUSION
Dietary intakes of energy, macronutrients, and micronutrients (vitamin D, vitamin E, water-soluble vitamins, calcium, and iron) of pregnant and lactating women in Indonesia and Malaysia were below the recommendations. Important heterogeneities were observed even between these two countries for specific essential nutrient intakes. Innovative research and targeted programs to address specific deficiencies should be prioritized.

INTRODUCTION
Edible mushrooms have a great nutritional value including high protein, essential amino acids, fiber, vitamins (B, B, B, C, and D), minerals (calcium [Ca], potassium [K], magnesium [Mg], sodium [Na], phosphorus [P], copper [Cu], iron [Fe], manganese [Mn], and selenium [Se]), low fatty foods, and sodium. The objective of this systematic review was to determine the relationship between edible mushroom consumption and overall cardiovascular risk.
METHODS
We systematically searched Ovid MEDLINE, Embase, Ovid Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Scopus, and Web of Science from database inception from 1966 through August 2020 for observational studies that reported the association between edible mushroom consumption and cardiovascular risk. Two investigators independently reviewed data. Conflicts were resolved through consensus discussion.
RESULTS
Of 1479 studies, we identified 7 prospective studies. Edible mushroom consumption may have favorable effects on lipid profiles by changing some metabolic markers such as low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, total cholesterol, and triglycerides. Moreover, edible mushroom consumption is probably associated with reduced mean blood pressure. The beneficial overall cardiovascular risk, stroke risk, and coronary artery disease of edible mushroom consumption are not consistent.
CONCLUSIONS
Edible mushroom consumption has not been shown to conclusively affect cardiovascular risk factors to date. However, potential health benefits may exist, including a favorable alteration of lipid profiles and blood pressure reduction.

OBJECTIVES
This study is aimed at describing changes in salivary flow rate and ionic composition present in the saliva of chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients by assessing the pH, calcium, phosphate, and phosphorus concentrations and comparing them to healthy individuals, along with exploring the influence of hemodialysis on these parameters.
METHODS
The bibliographical search was performed in nine databases to find all types of studies, including observational clinical studies, without restrictions regarding publication year or language. Two reviewers selected the studies, extracted the data, and assessed the risk of bias using JBI tools. Random-effect meta-analysis was performed with the standardized mean difference (SMD) as effect estimate, at a 95% confidence interval.
RESULTS
Thirty-three studies were included in the qualitative synthesis and 31 studies were included in the meta-analysis. Chronic kidney disease patients presented lower salivary flow rate (SMD: - 1.73; 95% CI = - 2.14; - 1.31), higher pH (SMD: 1.57; 95% CI = 1.11; 2.03), and higher phosphorus concentration (SMD: 0.86; 95% CI = 0.63; 1.09) in saliva. Concurrently, salivary flow rate and pH presented significant changes after hemodialysis, with higher salivary flow rate (SMD: 0.53; 95% CI = 0.25; 0.81) and lower pH (SMD: - 0.53; 95% CI = - 0.88; - 0.19) in patients on hemodialysis treatment.
CONCLUSION
Chronic kidney disease patients present reduced salivary flow rate and increased pH and phosphorus concentration in saliva. Hemodialysis can increase the salivary flow rate of these patients.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES
In spite of bone's healing capacity, critical-size bone defect regeneration and -implant osseointegration are challenging. Tissue engineering provides better outcomes, but requires expensive adjuncts like stem cells, growth factors and bone morphogenic proteins. Vitamin D (Vit.D) regulates calcium and phosphorus metabolism, and helps maintain bone health. Vit.D supplements in deficient patients, accentuates bone healing and regeneration. Therefore the aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the role of adjunctive Vit.D on bone defect regeneration.
METHODS
Comprehensive database search of indexed literature, published between January 1990 and June 2022, was carried out. English language articles fulfilling inclusion criteria (clinical/in vivo studies evaluating bone regeneration including osseointegration and in vitro studies assessing osteogenic differentiation, with adjunct Vit.D) were identified and screened.
RESULTS
Database search identified 384 titles. After sequential title, abstract and full-text screening, 23 studies (in vitro - 9/in vivo - 14) were selected for review. Vit.D as an adjunct with stem cells and osteoblasts resulted in enhanced osteogenic differentiation and upregulation of genes coding for bone matrix proteins and alkaline phosphatase. When used in vivo, Vit.D resulted in early and increased new bone formation and mineralization within osseous defects, and better bone implant contact and osseointegration, around implants. Adjunct Vit.D in animals with induced systemic illnesses resulted in bone defect regeneration and osseointegration comparable to healthy animals. While systemic and local administration of Vit.D resulted in enhanced bone defect healing, outcomes were superior with systemic route.
CONCLUSIONS
Based on this review, adjunct Vit.D enhances bone defect regeneration and osseointegration. In vitro application of Vit.D to stem cells and osteoblasts enhances osteogenic differentiation. Vit.D is a potentially non-invasive and inexpensive adjunct for clinical bone regeneration and osseointegration. Long term clinical trials are recommended to establish protocols relating to type, dosage, frequency, duration and route of administration.

The present systematic review and meta-analysis was designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of microwave ablation (MWA) treatment for secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT). The study authors systematically searched the Web of Science, Cochrane Library, PubMed, Embase and Ovid databases for studies published in English prior to 7October 2019. All studies included in the meta-analysis measured levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH), calcium and phosphorus, and included data related to complications following MWA treatment for SHPT. The meta-analysis ultimately included 233 patients from two retrospective cohort studies and six retrospective self-control studies. Compared to PTH level measurements obtained after MWA, measurements obtained at one day (weighted mean differences (WMD): 890.314, 95% confidence interval (CI): 767.121-1013.506, < 0.01) , one week (WMD: 860.298, 95% CI: 759.401-961.194, < 0.01), one month (WMD: 800.846, 95% CI: 687.709-913.983, < 0.01) and six months (WMD: 860.847, 95% CI: 745.214-976.480, < 0.01) after MWA were significantly lower. Calcium and phosphorus levels at one day and one week after MWA were also significantly lower than those measured before MWA. After MWA, the incidence of nerve injury was 1.2% (3/233; effect size (ES): 0.022, 95% CI: -0.003-0.048, < 0.01). After MWA, the incidence of hypocalcemia was 15.8% (37/233; ES: 0.449, 95% CI: 0.341-0.556, < 0.01). The preliminary results of this meta-analysis indicate that MWA may be effective and safe in treating patients with SHPT, and that future prospective research and randomized controlled trials (RCT) are necessary.

CONTEXT
Although hypophosphatemia is usually very seldom, it can reach two to 3% of hospitalized patients and until 28% of intensive care unit patients. Due to the lack of knowledge, clinical practice regarding seeking or treatment of hypophosphatemia is very heterogenous. However its clinical consequences might be heavy. A better knowledge of its causes, physiopathological effects and treatment should lead to a documented and homogenous care of these patients in clinics.
OBJECTIVE
The aim of our study was a systematic review of littérature, seeking for publications about causes, consequences and treatment of hypophosphatemia.
DOCUMENTARY SOURCES (KEYWORDS AND LANGUAGE)
A research has been conducted on the Medline database by using the following keywords "phosphorus supplementation", "hypophosphatemia" and ("physiopathology" or "complications").
RESULTS
Three mains mechanisms might be responsible for hypophosphatemia: a decrease in digestive absorption, a rise in kidney excretion and a transfer of phosphorus to the intracellular compartment. Denutrition, acid base balance troubles, parenteral nutrition or several drugs are capable of provoking or favouring hypophosphatemia. All these situations are frequently encountered in intensive care unit. Consequences of hypophosphatemia might be serious. Best studied and documented are cardiac and respiratory muscle contractility decrease, sometimes leading to acute cardiac and respiratory failure, cardiac rhythm troubles and cardiac arrest. Hypophosphatemia is frequent during sepsis. It could be responsible for leucocyte dysfunction that might favour or increase sepsis. The treatment of hypophosphatemia is usually simple through a supplementation that quickly restores a regular concentration, with few adverse effects when regularly used.
CONCLUSION
During at-risk situations, the systematic search for hypophosphatemia and its treatment may limit the occurrence of serious consequences.

Many lines of evidence suggest that mitochondria have a central role in aging-related neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease (AD). Mitochondrial dysfunction, cerebral energy dysmetabolism and oxidative damage increase with age, and are early event in AD pathophysiology and may precede amyloid beta (Aβ) plaques. probes of mitochondrial function and energy metabolism are therefore crucial to characterize the bioenergetic abnormalities underlying AD risk, and their relationship to pathophysiology and cognition. A majority of the research conducted in humans have used F-fluoro-deoxygluose (FDG) PET to image cerebral glucose metabolism (CMRglc), but key information regarding oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), the process which generates 90% of the energy for the brain, cannot be assessed with this method. Thus, there is a crucial need for imaging tools to measure mitochondrial processes and OXPHOS in the human brain. Phosphorus-magnetic resonance spectroscopy (P-MRS) is a non-invasive method which allows for the measurement of OXPHOS-related high-energy phosphates (HEP), including phosphocreatine (PCr), adenosine triphosphate (ATP), and inorganic phosphate (Pi), in addition to potential of hydrogen (pH), as well as components of phospholipid metabolism, such as phosphomonoesters (PMEs) and phosphodiesters (PDEs). Herein, we provide a systematic review of the existing literature utilizing the P-MRS methodology during the normal aging process and in patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and AD, with an additional focus on individuals at risk for AD. We discuss the strengths and limitations of the technique, in addition to considering future directions toward validating the use of P-MRS measures as biomarkers for the early detection of AD.

Mosquito-borne diseases (MBDs) are emerging in response to climate and land use changes. As mosquito (Diptera: Culicidae) habitat selection is often contingent on water availability for egg and larval development, studies have recognized water quality also influences larval habitats. However, underlying species-, genera-, and mosquito level preferences for water quality conditions are varied. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to identify, characterize, appraise, and synthesize available global data on the relationships between water quality and mosquito presence and abundance (MPA); with the goal to further our understanding of the geographic expansion of MBD risks. A systematic review was conducted to identify studies investigating the relationships between water quality properties and MPA. Where appropriate, random-effects meta-analyses were conducted to provide pooled estimates for the association between the most reported water quality properties and MPA. The most reported water quality parameters were pH (87%), nitrogen concentrations (56%), turbidity (56%), electrical conductivity (54%), dissolved oxygen (43%), phosphorus concentrations (30%), and alkalinity (10%). Overall, pH (P = 0.05), turbidity (P < 0.0001), electrical conductivity (P = 0.005), dissolved oxygen (P < 0.0001), nitrogen (P < 0.0001), and phosphorus (P < 0.0001) showed significantly positive pooled correlations with MPA, while alkalinity showed a nonsignificant null pooled correlation (P = 0.85). We observed high heterogeneity in most meta-analyses, and climate zonation was shown to influence the pooled estimates. Linkages between MPA and water quality properties will enhance our capacity to predict MBD risks under changing environmental and land use changes.

BACKGROUND
Elevated blood pressure (BP) is a major cause of preventable disease in the United States and around the world. It has been postulated that phosphorus intake may affect BP, with some studies suggesting a direct and others an inverse association.
OBJECTIVES
We systematically reviewed the literature on the association of dietary phosphorus with BP in adults and performed a qualitative synthesis.
METHODS
We included randomized and nonrandomized behavioral intervention and feeding studies (intervention studies) and prospective observational studies that measured dietary phosphorus intake or urinary phosphorus excretion and BP. We excluded studies of supplements, children, or individuals with major medical conditions. We searched PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Trials, and clinicaltrials.gov on 1 June, 2017 and 22 August, 2018. We assessed studies' risk of bias in their assessment of phosphorus exposure and BP.
RESULTS
We reviewed 4759 publications and included 14 intervention studies (2497 participants), 3 prospective observational cohorts (17,795 participants), and 2 ongoing trials. No included intervention studies were designed specifically to achieve a phosphorus contrast. Two studies found a significant positive association of dietary phosphorus with systolic BP, 4 a significant inverse association, and 8 no significant association. Four studies found a significant inverse association with diastolic BP and 10 no significant associations. Two cohorts found lower risk of incident hypertension comparing the highest with the lowest quintiles of phosphorus intake and 1 found no significant difference: HR: 0.86 (95% CI: 0.75, 0.98); HR: 0.83 (95% CI: 0.68, 1.02); and HR: 0.75 (95% CI: 0.45, 1.27), respectively.
CONCLUSIONS
We found no consistent association between total dietary phosphorus intake and BP in adults in the published literature nor any randomized trials designed to examine this association. This trial was registered at www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/ as CRD42017062489.

PURPOSE
The aim of this meta-analysis is to evaluate the changes in nutritional indicators in individuals with obesity before and after SG.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
A systematic retrieval of the available literature was performed using PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure databases. The following indicators were evaluated: serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D], calcium, phosphorus, iron, vitamin B12, folate, magnesium, and zinc from pre-operation to post-operation.
RESULTS
A total of 38 studies met inclusion criteria. A significant increase was observed in serum 25(OH)D (SMD = 0.70, 95%CI 0.38 to 1.02, P < 0.001), phosphorus (SMD = 0.40, 95%CI 0.14 to 0.67, P = 0.003), iron (SMD = 0.50, 95%CI 0.38 to 0.62, P < 0.001), and folate (SMD = 0.37, 95%CI 0.09 to 0.65, P = 0.01) after SG. Nevertheless, the increasing trend of serum phosphorus (P = 0.143) and folate (P = 0.774) disappeared in the unprescribed subgroup. A significant decrease in serum zinc (SMD = - 0.41, 95%CI - 0.81 to - 0.01, P = 0.044) was found after SG. No significant changes in serum calcium (SMD = 0.08, 95%CI - 0.09 to 0.25, P = 0.372), vitamin B12 (SMD = 0.10, 95%CI - 0.13 to 0.33, P = 0.398), and magnesium (SMD = 0.24, 95%CI - 0.10 to 0.58, P = 0.169) were observed. However, a significant decrease in serum calcium (P = 0.042) and vitamin B12 (P = 0.037) was found in the unprescribed subgroup.
CONCLUSIONS
Serum 25(OH)D, phosphorus, iron, and folate levels improved after a careful monitoring and due to a rigorous supplementation. The optimal dose of calcium, magnesium, and zinc supplementation has yet to be established; therefore, a broader supplementation of trace elements and minerals has to be suggested.
