Review
The content, migration and transformation of trace elements in living organisms play an important role in physiological activities. The analysis of trace elements in cells is of great significance to understand the function mechanism of trace elements in cells and organisms. Compared with conventional bulk analysis, many medical and clinical researches benefit from cell heterogeneity via single-cell analysis. Time-resolved analysis-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (TRA-ICP-MS) based strategies have the potential for both counting and quantitative assessment. It has been used to evaluate cell-to-cell difference in elemental content, cellular uptake of metal-containing drugs and nanoparticles. This review focuses on TRA-ICP-MS based methodologies for single-cell analysis over the past few decades. Recent advances in ICP-MS instrumentations (cell introduction systems and mass spectrometers), microfluidic platforms and their in-depth applications in single-cell analysis are summarized. This review also prospects future developments of TRA-ICP-MS for single-cell analysis.

To systematically identify and quantify the γ- and δ-lactones in Cheddar cheeses, 20 samples from three sources (Ireland, the UK and the USA) were analysed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), gas chromatography-olfactometry (GC-O), aroma extract dilution analysis, aroma recombination analysis, and aroma addition/omission analysis. Nine lactones were detected in these samples, and one of these lactones, γ-undecalactone, was identified in Cheddar cheese for the first time. The quantitative results showed that the concentration of lactones in these cheeses usually increased as the length of their maturity period increased. γ-Octalactone, γ-undecalactone, γ-dodecalactone, δ-octalactone, δ-decalactone and δ-dodecalactone were identified as aroma-active substances based on their odour activity values and aroma extract dilution analysis, with flavour dilution factors ranging from 2 to 128. Aroma recombination and omission experiments based on a newly developed deodorised Cheddar matrix further validated the important contributions of these lactones to the overall aroma of Cheddar cheeses. The addition of each lactone to aroma recombination models reduced the aroma intensity of sour and rancid properties to various extents and improved the acceptability of the overall flavour.

Review
Baijiu, a conventional fermented beverage with thousands history, plays a crucial part in physical health of people and social culture in China. The application of high-throughput screening and confirmation of flavor components in the field of authenticity identification and potential function has attracted more and more attention and interest of researchers. With more attention to health, pesticides residues, phthalates, biogenic amines and other hazardous substances remained in Baijiu have also become the quality parameters concerned by consumers. This review aims to present updated and critical overview on the substances analysis of Baijiu by means of hyphenated chromatographic techniques based on various pretreatment approaches in recent years. Subsequently, the advance and main direction of Baijiu composition analysis were evaluated and prospected.

Adsorption of chromium, copper, lead and mercury ions from aqueous solution using bio and nano adsorbents: A review of recent trends in the application of AC, BC, nZVI and MXene.
Recent trends in adsorption of Chromium (Cr), Copper (Cu), Lead (Pb) and Mercury (Hg) in wastewater using (i) carbonaceous materials including activated carbon (AC) and biochar (BC), and (ii) nanomaterials including nano zero-valent iron (nZVI) and MXenes have been discussed in this paper. It has been found that adsorption capacity depends largely on the adsorbent modification technique, initial pH of wastewater, dosage of adsorbent, contact time and initial concentration of the pollutants. The pH value ranges for maximum removal of Cr, Cu, Pb and Hg have been reported as 2-4, 5-6, 5-8 and 3-8, respectively. Up to 99% removal of metals has been reported using AC, BC, nZVI and MXene. The mechanism involves the reduction and chemical adsorption of metals. AC and BC have a higher surface area (up to 5000 m/g) compared to nZVI (up to 500 m/g) and MXene (up to 67.66 m/g). However, the higher reactivity and regeneration capacity of nZVI and MXene make them suitable adsorbents. From a practical point of view the application of adsorbents for real effluents, cost analysis, regeneration capability and reuse of heavy metals are some aspects that need attention in future studies. The removal efficiencies of AC and BC are comparable to the nZVI and MXene. The cost analysis may be an attractive aspect to decide the future application of these adsorbents at large scale.

Review
Inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) is a popular and routine analytical method that has been used for determination of trace elements since the 1980s. It provides fast quantitative analysis and allows the determination of more than 70 elements with good accuracy and very low detection limits, but requires an intricate calibration procedure. In analyses of samples for which very low detection limits are not required a semiquantitative ICP-MS analysis mode can be used. This approach is more time- and cost-effective, and it uses a simple calibration procedure. This article presents a critical review of the semiquantitative (SQ) mode of ICP-MS and describes current and future applications of SQ analysis.

Review
Hen's egg is a complete material needed for the development of the embryo; it is an important source of nutraceutical compounds, such as protein, fats, vitamins, trace metals, and minerals. Moreover, avian egg contains biologically active compounds that exhibit antibacterial and antimicrobial activities as well as antitumor, antiviral, antioxidant, immunomodulating, and therapeutic properties. Eggs are mostly very good sources of valuable, easily digestible proteins. This review focuses on the biologically active compounds from hen's egg and applications of these compounds in medicine and the pharmaceutical industry. Additionally, it gives an overview of the hyphenated separation techniques, including sample preparation, analysis, and identification, used in the proteomics and lipidomics analysis.

Since humans spend more than 90% of their time in indoor environments, indoor exposure can be an important non-dietary pathway to hazardous organic contaminants. It is thus important to characterize the chemical composition of indoor dust to assess the total contaminant exposure and estimate human health risks. The aim of this investigation was to perform a comprehensive chemical characterization of indoor dust. First, the robustness of an adopted extraction method using ultrasonication was evaluated for 85 target compounds. Thereafter, a workflow combining target analysis, suspect screening analysis (SSA) and nontarget analysis (NTA) was applied to dust samples from different indoor environments. Chemical analysis was performed using both gas chromatography and liquid chromatography coupled with high resolution mass spectrometry. Although suppressing matrix effects were prominent, target analysis enabled the quantification of organophosphate/brominated flame retardants (OPFRs/BFRs), liquid crystal monomers (LCMs), toluene diisocyanate, bisphenols, pesticides and tributyl citrate. The SSA confirmed the presence of OPFRs but also enabled the detection of polyethylene glycols (PEGs) and phthalates/parabens. The combination of hierarchical cluster analysis and scaled mass defect plots in the NTA workflow confirmed the presence of the above mentioned compounds, as well as detect other contaminants such as tetrabromobisphenol A, triclocarban, diclofenac and 3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridinol, which were further confirmed using pure standards.

Review
Cell cycle involves a series of changes that lead to cell growth and division. Cell cycle analysis is crucial to understand cellular responses to changing environmental conditions. Since its inception, flow cytometry has been particularly useful for cell cycle analysis at single cell level due to its speed and precision. Previously, flow cytometric cell cycle analysis relied solely on the measurement of cellular DNA content. Later, methods were developed for multiparametric analysis. This review explains the journey of flow cytometry to understand different molecular and cellular events underlying cell cycle using various protocols. Recent advances in the field that overcome the shortcomings of traditional flow cytometry and expand its scope for cell cycle studies are also discussed.
