Review
Mucopolysaccharidosis are group of inherited metabolic diseases caused by the absence or malfunctioning of lysosomal enzymes resulting in accumulation of glycosaminoglycans. Over time this accumulation damages cells, tissues, and organs. There are seven types of MPS and 13 subtypes that are associated with multiple organ systems, such as the respiratory, liver, spleen, central nervous systems, arteries, skeletons, eyes, joints, ears, skin, and/or teeth. The various types share some common ocular features that differ in terms of the severity of the affection. Visual loss in MPS patients is varied and can be due to corneal clouding, glaucoma, retinopathy, and optic neuropathy. The primary focus of this review is on changes in the cornea and anterior segment in MPS patients, including clinical and novel investigative modalities, current surgical management, effects of systemic therapy like hematopoietic stem cell transplants (HSCT)and enzyme replacement therapy (ERT), as well as significant research developments.

Ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) is an important tool in the diagnosis, evaluation and follow up of glaucoma patients. Even if we are dealing with a primary angle closure glaucoma (PACG) or a primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) patient, the mechanism of angle closure can be revealed by performing an UBM. The device can help differentiate between the two types of glaucoma even in patients with opaque corneas when gonioscopy cannot be performed. Knowing the type of glaucoma is vital, especially regarding an individualized treatment, since each patient is unique and needs to be treated accordingly, in order to prevent glaucomatous optic neuropathy and visual field loss. : AC = anterior chamber, ICE = iridocorneal endothelial syndrome, IOP = intraocular pressure, NTG = normal tension glaucoma, PACG = primary angle closure glaucoma, PC = posterior chamber, PEX = pseudoexfoliation syndrome, POAG = primary open angle glaucoma, UBM = ultrasound biomicroscopy.

The use of focused ultrasound to obtain diagnostically significant information about the eye goes back to the 1950s. This review describes the historical and technological development of ophthalmic ultrasound and its clinical application and impact. Ultrasound, like light, can be focused, which is crucial for formation of high-resolution, diagnostically useful images. Focused, single-element, mechanically scanned transducers are most common in ophthalmology. Specially designed transducers have been used to generate focused, high-intensity ultrasound that through thermal effects has been used to treat glaucoma (via ciliodestruction), tumors, and other pathologies. Linear and annular transducer arrays offer synthetic focusing in which precise timing of the excitation of independently addressable array elements allows formation of a converging wavefront to create a focus at one or more programmable depths. Most recently, linear array-based plane-wave ultrasound, in which the array emits an unfocused wavefront and focusing is performed solely on received data, has been demonstrated for imaging ocular anatomy and blood flow. While the history of ophthalmic ultrasound extends back over half-a-century, new and powerful technologic advances continue to be made, offering the prospect of novel diagnostic capabilities.

OBJECTIVES
The objective of our study was to review the current knowledge on the diagnosis and treatment options of plateau iris configuration and syndrome.
SYSTEMATIC REVIEW METHODOLOGY
Relevant publications on plateau iris that were published until 2014.
CONCLUSIONS
Plateau iris syndrome is a form of primary angle closure glaucoma caused by a large or anteriorly positioned ciliary body that leads to mechanical obstruction of trabecular meshwork. This condition is most often found in younger patients. Plateau iris has been considered an abnormal anatomic variant of the iris that can be diagnosed on ultrasound biomicroscopy or optical coherence tomography of anterior segment. Patients with plateau iris syndrome can be recognized by the lack of response in angle opening after iridotomy. The treatment of choice in these cases is argon laser peripheral iridoplasty.

INTRODUCTION
Iris melanocytoma (IM) is a rare benign tumor, but unavoidable in differential diagnosis of pigmented iris lesions. According to the best knowledge of the authors it is for the first time in Serbia that a well-documented case of IM is presented and that the problem of this tumor is discussed.
CASE OUTLINE
In the left eye of a 47-year-old white female at the iris in a six o'clock position, a highly pigmented, dome shaped lesion with a crater-like cavity in the center and with feathery margins was noticed. There were no signs of infiltration of surrounding tissue or intrinsic vessels and the lens was clear. Visual acuity and intraocular pressure were normal. An ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) revealed a well-defined lesion with high internal reflectivity, with a base diameter of 1.25 mm and a thickness of 0.80 mm in the periphery, and 0.53 mm in the central part.The diagnosis of IM of the left eye was established and regular checkups were performed for ten years. No changes in clinical or UBM presentation were established.
CONCLUSION
Awareness of clinical presentation of IM is most important for correct diagnosis. Ultrasound biomicroscopy is a useful diagnostic procedure in the following up of IM.

BACKGROUND
UBM is a high-resolution ultrasound technique which allows non-invasive, in vivo imaging of the anterior segment and iridocorneal angle.
PURPOSE
This video is compilation of short video clips and images which gives description on identification of angle closure due to pupillary block, peripheral anterior synechiae, iris bombe, plateau iris, supra ciliary effusion, and malignant glaucoma. It also shows video demonstrating partially and fully patent iridotomy and features of trabeculectomy bleb. Synopsis: This video summarizes importance of UBM application in angle closure glaucoma to understand its pathophysiology by showing the relationship between the peripheral iris, trabecular meshwork and ciliary processes.
HIGHLIGHTS
UBM provides two-dimensional, grayscale images of the angle structures and allows identification of non-pupillary block mechanism in angle closure glaucoma, which can be recorded for qualitative and quantitative analyses.

Ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) is a high-resolution ultrasound technique, which allows noninvasive, in vivo imaging of the ocular anterior segment structures.
PURPOSE
This video gives a description of the identification of the iridocorneal angle structures in the cross-sectional view in a radial scan through a typical ciliary process and a guide toward measuring the angle parameters.
SYNOPSIS
UBM provides two-dimensional, grayscale images of the iridocorneal angle. The real-time image is displayed on a video monitor and can be recorded for qualitative and quantitative analysis. The angle parameters can be measured by in-built calipers in the machine software and manipulated by the examiner. Highlights: This video demonstrates UBM caliper positions as displayed on the monitor and marked by the examiner for the measurement of various anterior segment parameters of the eye.

Anterior segment imaging allows for an objective method of visualizing the anterior segment angle. Two of the most commonly used devices for anterior segment imaging include the anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) and the ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM). AS-OCT technology has several types, including time-domain, swept-source, and spectral-domain-based configurations. We performed a literature search on PubMed for articles containing the text "anterior segment OCT," "ultrasound biomicroscopy," and "anterior segment imaging" since 2004, with some pertinent references before 2004 included for completeness. This review compares the advantages and disadvantages of AS-OCT and UBM, and summarizes the most recent literature regarding the importance of these devices in glaucoma diagnosis and management. These devices not only aid in visualization of the angle, but also have important postsurgical applications in bleb and tube imaging.
