This paper aimed to experimentally clarify the dynamic crushing mechanism and performance of ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) and analyze the influence of density and thickness on its mechanical behavior and energy absorption properties under dynamic impact loadings. Hence, a series of dynamic compression tests were carried out on EVA foams with different densities and thicknesses. When the impact energy is 66.64 J, for foam with a density of 150 kg/m, the maximum contact force, maximum displacement, maximum strain, absorbed energy, and specific energy absorption () increased by 20 ± 2%, -38.5 ± 2%, -38.5 ± 2%, 4 ± 2%, and 105 ± 2%, respectively, compared to foam with a density of 70 kg/m. The ratios of absorbed energy to impact energy for different thickness specimens are almost equal. The specimen density has no effect on the efficiency of energy absorption and has a greater effect on the . Meanwhile, when the impact energy-to-thickness ratio is 1680 J/m, compared to foam with a thickness of 30 mm, the maximum contact force, maximum displacement, maximum strain, absorbed energy, and for foam with a thickness of 60 mm increased by 28.5 ± 2%, 211.3 ± 2%, 56.6 ± 2%, 100.8 ± 2%, and 0.4 ± 0.5%, respectively. When the impact energy is 66.64 J, compared to foam with a thickness of 30 mm, the maximum contact force, maximum displacement, maximum stain, absorbed energy, and for foam with a thickness of 60 mm increased by -42.5 ± 2%, 163.5 ± 2%, 31.7 ± 2%, 4.1 ± 2%, and 4.1 ± 2%, respectively. The of two different-thickness EVA specimens is almost equal, about 2.8 J/g. The ratios of absorbed energy to impact energy for different thickness specimens are almost equal, both at 72%. The specimen thickness has no effect on the efficiency of energy absorption and has a greater effect on the maximum contact force. In the range of impact energy, thickness, and density studied, the absorbed energy and are not affected by the thickness of EVA specimens and are determined by the impact energy. The density has no significant effect on the absorbed energy but has a greater effect on the . However, for EVA foams, the greater the density, the greater the mass, and the higher the cost. Taking into account lightweight and cost factors, when optimizing cushioning design within a safe range, we can choose EVA foams with a smaller density and thickness.

This study aimed to identify the regions of the body surface of silver catfish () with a higher population of mucous cells in the skin. Additionally, the effects of stressful conditions, such as different stocking densities and food deprivation, on the proliferative response of mucous cells in the skin and gill epithelium and their impact on cutaneous mucous lysozyme activity were investigated. Silver catfish were divided into four experimental groups: high stocking density (32 kg/m) and fed (HSD-F), high stocking density and fasted (HSD-FS), low stocking density (2.5 kg/m) and fed (LSD-F), and low stocking density and fasted (LSD-FS). Fish in the fed groups received commercial feed twice a day, amounting to 1% of the tank biomass. After a 14-day experimental period, the fish were anesthetized and euthanized. Samples of cutaneous mucous and skin fragments from seven different points and the second left branchial arch were collected. Histological slides of the skin and gills were stained with PAS + Alcian Blue at pH 2.5, and the epidermal mucous lysozyme activity was assessed using the turbidimetric method. The ventral point in front of the ventral fin was found to be the optimal location for collecting cutaneous epithelia due to its higher density of mucous cells. The population of mucous cells in both the skin and gills varied based on the collection point and treatment applied. The highest lysozyme activity in the epidermal mucous was observed in fish from the HSD-F group. Overall, these findings suggest that stocking density and food deprivation create stressful conditions for silver catfish, which modulate their mucosal response to each situation.

PURPOSE
Fractures are increased in patients with acromegaly, both before and after successful acromegaly treatment. Abnormalities of bone microstructure, which may underlie this fragility, are present in active acromegaly but to what extent these improve with acromegaly treatment or persist despite biochemical remission remains unclear. To examine these questions, we studied the effects of acromegaly treatment and remission on bone quality.
METHODS
Sixty-five women and men with acromegaly were studied. Subgroups underwent assessments of areal bone mineral density by dual x-ray absorptiometry, trabecular bone score (TBS), and volumetric bone mineral density, microarchitecture, stiffness and failure load of the distal radius and tibia by high-resolution peripheral quantitative tomography in a longitudinal study before and after acromegaly treatment and in a cross-sectional study in which patients were compared to sex-, age-, and body mass index-matched healthy controls.
RESULTS
In the longitudinal study, significant increases in total, cortical, and trabecular densities at the radius and tibia and increased stiffness and failure load of the tibia occurred with acromegaly treatment. In the cross-sectional study, patients in biochemical remission after surgery had larger bones, lower trabecular and cortical volumetric density, and disrupted trabecular microarchitecture compared to controls. TBS did not change with acromegaly treatment but correlated with some microstructural parameters.
CONCLUSION
We show, for the first time, that volumetric bone mineral density and microarchitecture of the peripheral skeleton improve with acromegaly treatment but remain abnormal in patients in remission after surgery compared to controls. These abnormalities, known to be associated with fractures in other populations, may play a role in the pathogenesis of persistent fragility in treated acromegaly.

The purpose of this study is to identify the different effects exerted by planting density and nitrogen fertilization on high-salinity reclaimed paddy fields (RPF) and general paddy fields (GPFs), and to find the amount of fertilization and the planting density suitable for the growth of forage rice in each paddy field. Nitrogen fertilization with high-salt and low-salt soils, an untreated control plot, treatment with 200 kg/ha, 300 kg/ha, and 400 kg/ha, and planting densities of 30 cm × 10 cm and 30 cm × 16 cm, growth, and feed values were investigated. In both experimental locations, there was no significant change in the soil due to N treatment, but in the case of RPF, electrical conductivity (EC) decreased significantly from more than 5 dS/m to up to 2.87 dS/m during the yellow ripe stage due to the influence of floods and concentrated precipitation in the fields. In all soils, as both the amount of N treatment and the planting density increased, there was a proportional relationship in which the number of tillers and the dry weight also increased, with the occurrence of lodging also being increased. The dry weight, as expected, was 1.5 times higher at a planting distance of 10 cm, rather than 16 cm. In addition, in both locations, the N treatment led to an increase in the dry weight, but when N treatment reached 400 kg/ha (2.0), the dry weight decreased instead. Moreover, although there was no clear difference in feed value according to N treatment, in RPF, the neutral detergent fiber (NDF) was higher than 60%, the relative feed value (RFV) was less than 98, and the total digestible nutrient (TDN) was also low, confirming that the quality of rice was higher in GPF.

Management choices during the pullet phase can affect behavior, welfare, and health later in life, but few studies have evaluated the pullet phase, particularly in extensive housing systems. This study was a 2 × 2 factorial randomized complete block design (RCBD) with two strains and two stocking densities. The Lohmann LB-Lite and Lohmann LSL-Lite were housed on the floor at high-stocking density (619-670 cm/bird) and low-stocking density (1249-1352 cm/bird), which changed with age from 2 to 16 weeks of age (WOA). Bird-based measures of appearance, blood parameters, organ measurements, and production values were evaluated. Stocking density alone affected ( < 0.05) only relative bursal weight (% of body weight)-3.32% in the low-density versus 3.08% in the high-density group. High-stocking density was correlated with decreased uniformity (high-89.33 ± 0.24%; low-90.41 ± 0.24; < 0.02) and worse feather coverage in the brown strain. High-stocking density was correlated with greater uniformity (High-90.39 ± 0.24%; Low-88.47 ± 0.24%; < 0.001) and better feather coverage in the white strain. This study's feed conversion ratio (FCR) was improved by 0.07 in the low-stocking density for both strains. The remaining parameters were affected by strain and age only. Thus, while stocking density effects vary slightly depending on the strain used, cage-free pullets had limited negative effects at both the high and low-stocking densities tested in this study; there were few to no changes in the numerous bird-based welfare parameters tested.

Local cell densities and positioning within cellular monolayers and stratified epithelia have important implications for cell interactions and the functionality of various biological processes. To analyze the relationship between cell localization and tissue physiology, density-based clustering algorithms, such as DBSCAN, allow for a detailed characterization of the spatial distribution and positioning of individual cells. However, these methods rely on predefined parameters that influence the outcome of the analysis. With varying cell densities in cell cultures or tissues impacting cell sizes and, thus, cellular proximities, these parameters need to be carefully chosen. In addition, standard DBSCAN approaches generally come short in appropriately identifying individual cell positions. We therefore developed three extensions to the standard DBSCAN-algorithm that provide: (i) an automated parameter identification to reliably identify cell clusters, (ii) an improved identification of cluster edges; and (iii) an improved characterization of the relative positioning of cells within clusters. We apply our novel methods, which are provided as a user-friendly OpenSource-software package (DBSCAN-CellX), to cellular monolayers of different cell lines. Thereby, we show the importance of the developed extensions for the appropriate analysis of cell culture experiments to determine the relationship between cell localization and tissue physiology.

Osteoporosis is a prevalent chronic disease worldwide, particularly affecting the aging population. The gold standard diagnostic tool for osteoporosis is Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA). However, the expensive cost of the DXA machine and the need for skilled professionals to operate it restrict its accessibility to the general public. This paper builds upon previous research and proposes a novel approach for rapidly screening bone density. The method involves utilizing near-infrared light to capture local body information within the human body. Deep learning techniques are employed to analyze the obtained data and extract meaningful insights related to bone density. Our initial prediction, utilizing multi-linear regression, demonstrated a strong correlation (r = 0.98, p-value = 0.003**) with the measured Bone Mineral Density (BMD) obtained from Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA). This indicates a highly significant relationship between the predicted values and the actual BMD measurements. A deep learning-based algorithm is applied to analyze the underlying information further to predict bone density at the wrist, hip, and spine. The prediction of bone densities in the hip and spine holds significant importance due to their status as gold-standard sites for assessing an individual's bone density. Our prediction rate had an error margin below 10% for the wrist and below 20% for the hip and spine bone density.

Movement is essential for the maintenance of populations in their natural habitats, particularly for threatened species living in fluctuating environments. Empirical evidence suggests that the probability and distance of movement in territorial species are context-dependent, often depending on population density and sex. Here, we investigate the movement behavior of the spring cohort of an endangered endemic damselfly Calopteryx exul in a lotic habitat of Northeast Algeria using capture-mark-recapture (CMR) of adults. By sampling 10 gridded river stretches across a 2 km section of the watercourse, we were able to estimate the distance of movement throughout individual lifespans and estimate movement probability for both males and females. We used multistate models to examine whether individual density and sex ratio influence survival and movement probability. We found that males and females had similar movement kernels with most individuals moving short distances (83% performing movements of < 100 m and only 1% > 1000 m). Of the 547 marked individuals, 63% were residents, and 37% were movers (moved at least 50 m from one sampling occasion to another). Survival probability showed higher estimates for females and was slightly density-dependent (i.e., lower survival probabilities were associated with high male densities). Survival probability did not show a marked difference between residents and movers. Movement probability and distances were positively correlated with individual density, but were not or slightly correlated with sex ratio, respectively. These results are not in line with the hypotheses of sex-biased movement and survival costs of movement. Our results suggest that the species performs mostly short-distance movements that are dependent on intraspecific interactions.

To evaluate the optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) findings in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Twenty-eight eyes of 28 patients with SLE and 27 eyes of 27 age and sex matched healthy controls were enrolled in this cross-sectional study. The vessel densities in the macula and optic disc were evaluated using the OCT-A (Optovue, Inc., Freemont, CA). Foveal retinal thickness, retinal vascular density in superficial capillary plexus (SCP), deep capillary plexus, and choriocapillaris, foveal avascular zone (FAZ), acircularity index, foveal vessel density (FD), and non-flow area in the superficial retina, the capillary and all-vessels density in the peripapillary area and the inside-disc area were automatically measured using Angiovue software of OCT-A and compared between the groups. The foveal, parafoveal and perifoveal retinal vessel densities in the superficial and deep capillary plexus and choriocapillaris were similar between groups. FAZ area, FAZ perimetry, acirculatory index, FD and non-flow area did not show a statistically significant difference. The vessel density in the inside disc area was significantly lower in patients with SLE (46.3 ± 3.8%) compared to the control group (49.1 ± 4.8%) (P = .02). Our results demonstrate significant decrement in vessel density in the inside-disc area in patients with SLE. The lower vessel density measurement in the inside-disc area might be associated with early neurologic vascular impairment in SLE. Further studies are required to determine the clinical relevance of this finding.

BACKGROUND
The liver is the most typical site of metastatic disease for patients with colorectal cancer (CRC), and up to half the patients with CRC will develop colorectal liver metastasis (CLM). Studying the tumor microenvironment, particularly macrophages and their spatial distribution, can give us critical insight into treatment.
METHODS
Ten CLMs (five treatment-naïve and five post-neoadjuvant chemotherapy) were stained with multiplex immunofluorescence panels against cytokeratins, CD68, Arg1, CD206, CD86, CD163, PD-L1, and MRP8-14. Densities of cell phenotypes and their spatial distribution in the tumor center and the normal liver-tumor interface were correlated with clinicopathological variables.
RESULTS
M2 macrophages were the predominant subtype in both the tumor center and the periphery, with a relatively higher density at the periphery. The larger tumors, more than 3.9 cm, were associated with higher densities of total CD68+ macrophages and CD68+CD163+ CD206 and CD68+CD206+ CD163 M2 macrophage subtypes. Total macrophages in the tumor periphery demonstrated significantly greater proximity to malignant cells than did those in the tumor center (p=0.0371). The presence of higher than median CD68+MRP8-14+CD86 M1 macrophages in the tumor center was associated with poor overall survival (median 2.34 years) compared to cases with lower than median M1 macrophages at the tumor center (median 6.41 years) in univariate analysis.
CONCLUSION
The dominant polarization of the M2 macrophage subtype could drive new therapeutic approaches in CLM patients.
